I teach at the college level, and the rules are the same. Always an open door, always meet in a public place. A rumor isn't quite as fatal but it's dangerous.

When the age difference is big enough, it usually means something else is going on, something pretty bad. When it's just 19 sleeping with 17, then it's usually just a sad case of the law having to draw a line somewhere. Hence why so many states have Romeo and Juliet laws that give a little wiggle room.
