I do sometimes. Level is so so. /tg/ sucks, cause all it is D&D or Magic. There is never a abstract or some other 'regular' board games thread. Which website do you play at?

Is also very good. Do you know of any website or software that does analysis on you games? Like stockfish for chess.

I understand the game go itself is enough to entertain someone. But have you tried the variations? There pretty fun when you want to change it up a little.
>>

>analysis on you games? Like stockfish for chess
What do you mean by analysis on games?
>>
>>44786274
Basically telling you which move is stronger than which one. Or who is ahead in certain positions. I understand that It's not going to be as strong as chess engines. But I thought maybe something similar.
>>
>>44786313
Well with go, the number of points is concrete, so you don't really need software to tell you who is ahead. I know online-go will tell you the store, and let you analyze the game, creating situations that could happen and branching off while telling you the score for each

Just started

Can beat my friends
Can't beat the fucking computer on easy
>>
>>44785926
I've played a lot of 9x9 games, I do decently.

On the Go Free android app I can regularly beat the computer at difficulty 7, difficulty 8 I have probably like a 75% win rate, difficulty 9 I'm below 50%.

I've played a few 19x19 games and it's completely different. It's mentally exhausting but a ton of fun.
>>
>>44785926
I've played Go a bit; I do well against casuals but I'm not sure how well I would do against regular players and enthusiasts.
>>
>>44785926
One thing which I've found in Go is that it seems to be difficult for a losing player to regain the advantage. What do you think about this?
>>
I wish the ai was better.
I'd play everyday if I could play good games against the computer.

>17 kyu
>>
>>44785926
i've been estimated to be around 30kyu. 9kyu player rekt my ass.
>>
>>44785926
Yes. I'm not too good, but I'm around 12k on panda and 16k or so on kgs. Kgs has been much better to me, though, both more challenging, and people reviewing games with me when they beat me. Panda is much easier, and people just quit when the game is over, not even a thanks or bye or well played or you suck.
>>
>>44788796
I can actually beat computers on any setting but the hardest pretty easily, even when giving them 5 stones handicap. It's pretty easy. You should keep playing against humans for a while and it should come to you naturally.
>>
>>44791479
That might be true as a beginner, or if you make a critically bad move midgame, but otherwise not at all. Some players are much stronger in the endgame and can gain 10-20 points easily, securing victory even though they were losing throughout midgame. Some players are really good with openings and will start with a 50 points advantage, but lose a lot during midgame and end up with few points advantage if they win, or simply lose. Some players are good at defense, so they end up with unassailable positions from which to launch attacks inside unstable aggressive player positions without risk, thus winning in the second half of midgame. Aggressive players basically want to win as many points as possible early so they can spend the rest of the time stabilizing their position while the enemy is routed.
There are tons of ways to catch up if you're behind, but it will depend on your playstyle and the one of your opponent. When it comes to computer go, there's no opponent playstyle to speak of, just abuse the AI. But you shouldn't play computer go anyway, it's not fun and gets too easy with any amount of practice, while teaching you very bad forms against real players.

Does anyone ever tried to play conway game of life as a go game?
>>
>>44795467
>Does anyone ever tried to play conway game of life as a go game?
It would be a pain in the ass, to check every single tile, to see who lives, who survives and who become dead.

But you can put the spirit of conway game of life on go, by changing some rules:

1-The game has simultaneous capture with suicide instead usual capture rule
1.1-On game of life everything happens at same time

2-The scoring method is stone scoring, so the one who wins is the one with most stones on board.
2.1-What sort of matter on game of life is having stuff that is alive.

3-Capture happen on a different way, A player can move or pass. The capture happen when white pass and on the previous turn black passed. The game ends when white pass and the 3 previous turns were passes.
3.1-On cownway game of life, you can put more than one stone on table or the game would never start
>>
>>44795682
forgot rule 4
Diagonally adjacent pieces are also considered for the sake of making groups and capture.
>>
>>44793802
>That game

>My head

The commentary helped a bit, but the divergent moves presented often got me off track and made it hard to follow.
I'm still a bit of a noob though, and it was an entertaining watch
>>
>>44796671
I bet if the narrator didn't have such a thick accent it would have been easier to follow. If you practice enough, you'll also get a good feel for the different possibilities at each stage so you won't get too lost in the analysis either.

The level of play here is still significantly higher than anything you'll find online or in person, and the amount of long-term considerations is huge in those kinds of games. It's always hard to follow what pros are doing. A move that looks weak is actually the cornerstone of a brilliant move 50 turns ahead.

>The atomic bomb go game is a celebrated game of Go that was in progress when the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. The venue of the game was in the suburbs of Hiroshima, about 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) from ground zero.[4]
>The game was about to enter its third and final day of play when the bomb dropped at 8:15 am. The players — Hashimoto Utaro, who was the Honinbo title holder, and Iwamoto Kaoru, who was the challenger — had replayed the game to the adjourned position but had not yet started to play on. The explosion caused disruption to the game, damage to the building, and some injuries to those attending the match. Play was resumed after the lunch break, and the game was played to a conclusion that evening. Hashimoto, holding White, won by five points.
>Play was resumed after the lunch break

>>
>>44802764
If they don't say anything either, then the community on OGS probably doesn't care. Eitherway, everyone understands English at least enough for this, so there's no language barrier issue at this level.
>>
>>44802856

True. The games are pretty silent overall, in my experience. Though I mostly just have time for quick little 9x9 games anyway, so there's not exactly a whole lot of time to chat with the byo-yomi and all.

I've played it about... twice. I won both times though, so technically I have never lost a game of Go in my life.
>>
>>44803002
The great majority of people will be playing fullboards, a few will be playing speed-go, and usually only beginners or people without much time to play will play 9x9 so it's not very representative to be fair. While 9x9 is useful to learn to play corners, it's widely different than a real fullboard corner and obviously plays completely different from a complete game.
>>
>>44793802
The narrator's accent just kills me. Either way, I don't really know how to play go, just the rules, but I've still watched and enjoyed all of this.

first number is horizontal and starts on the bottom-left, second number is vertical and starts that the bottom-left. thus, 4-7 is the point immediately right of your first move at 3-7. We can continue from here if you want, though.

You probably should have gone with 8-7 here.
He would have had to respond with 8-8 to head you off, after which you could descend for liberties and then taken 7-7, or he would have taken 7-7, after which you could have tried to seize the corner.
>>
It's getting too late, gotta go.

>>44804977
I actually meant 6-1 here. This was the second biggest error in the game.

>>44805765
6-1 is the wrong play here, I think 7-1 is correct.

>>44804325
7-5 is wrong. 7-6 is better. Black should win the corner with this.

>>44804297
White here is OK, but I think top corner (7-6 or 6-6) is the better move. Irrelevant given black's future mistake, though.

Next is connecting at 5-3, which should allow life at the cost of the bottom line. I think black can close the ko.

>>

9x9 needs 0.5, maybe 1.5 max komi. 0.5 is just a tie breaking in favor of whoever doesn't act first, it's effectively no komi.

>>44806855
White lost even with the Komi either way.

I'm pretty bad with my opening game, and it created a bad spot for midgame where I invested too heavily in what proved to be a dead group or at least a group beyond my ability to save.
