Yeah, it explains how their bodies were full of radiation, not to mention the blows they had suffered only internally without any soft tissue being destroyed.

The whole thing is probably some failed or maybe successful weapon test by the russian military. Russians did some fucked up shit back then.

The injuries were consistent with being hit by an avalanche and the radiation angle was added by jurnos after all the other 'mystery' elements had been explained. No UFOs here, not LMs nor SMs.

Speaking of, I've thought about doing a game based on the Jessup/Varo version of The Case For UFOs. The idea that the red spot on Jupiter is a crashed spacecraft would be the main plot hook. I'd run it as a slow placed mystery as the PCs travel to Jupiter to study what they think is a meteological feature but turns out to be a spaceship made of stone and magnets. Might be hard to not give of Alien or 2001 vibes though.
