I've known assholes who want to exploit wizards to the max and assholes who bitch about their CN rogue waifu, I mean, OC donutsteel, I mean character to win everything without having the mechanical backing to do so.
Assholes are assholes on either side of the argument. I just don't think 3.5 is well designed from a gameplay perspective, even though it can produce fantastic adventures.

We've had a lot of fun out of it. ( mainly core and a couple other books)
We've not encountered the stuff people complain about here. Doesn't mean problems don't exist, just that somehow, we don't bumb into them.
Why so many others have these issues? I can only guess.

1. Too many supplements
2. Making magic street-level common
3. Trying to make superhero PCs
4. Thinking its about class vs class
5. Weak dm's

L5R. Dragon Clan Shugenja (samurai wizard) tend to be alchemists and/or blacksmiths. I gave her the Large advantage, and improved her strength to the chargen cap of 4.
