I thankfully have only had one That Girl in any of my groups, and many many girl players who were just fine.

Even then she wasn't that bad. Just a goth/wicca girl back in highschool who always played elf druids and always had a wolf companion. She couldn't be arsed to remember the rules or memorize a proper spell list, saying that when her brother ran games for her, he just let her pick spells in the middle of battle.

She was otherwise unremarkable and didn't stick around for long and didn't leave much of an impression on the group. I consider myself lucky I never had any of the hambeasts or yaoi fans or whatever other horrific That Girls I've heard stories about.

>Have a D&D game going with my players during high school
>One player insists that their girlfriend join
>Talk to her about what kind of character she wants to play, help her with the rules, ect.
>She picks up the rules fine and seems eager to play, even goes out how her way to write a backstory that works well with my setting
>Her character is pretty much a wandering knight who lost his lord and is looking for a way to redeem himself
>Game starts and her character is introduced
>He stands in the middle of the road the party is heading down, staring them all down
>She doesn't have him say anything
>Awkward silence continues for a while, eventually the group decides to walk past her knight
>She has him follow them without a word
>She then proceeds to do absolutely nothing
>Absolutely nothing all game until combat
>Literally
>She literally does and says NOTHING all game until combat starts
>She just moves her character towards the closest enemy and rolls to attack
>Doesn't initiate anything
>Doesn't buy new gear
>Doesn't interact with the party beyond following them
>Doesn't have her character respond when talked to by NPCs
>Her boyfriend looks confused the whole time
>Rest of the group is confused the whole time
>I'm confused the whole time
>Tells everyone she had a blast and can't wait for the next session
>This continued until the end of that campaign
>Eventually we all got used to this mute knight whose only purpose in life was to walk forward and attack things with his sword
>After the campaign was over the few times I hung out with her she'd still bring it up and talk about how fun it was

She was so weird, goddamn.

That, or the equivalent is not necessarily so bad because some of them are genuinely cute if you discount the "fucking stupid" delusions.

This story cracks me up. It must have been awkward as part of the group but I'd have loved to been an uninvolved observer.

My That Girl is just the wife of one of my otherwise decent (if flakey) players whose autism ensures we can never have a consistent game because I never know if she's going to have a bad day and not feel like gaming or not.

She also has a bit of a taste for esoteric characters like dryads or monstergirls or whatever, which I don't really care about, but the inconsistency is really what pushes her into That Girl territory for me. Worse yet, I'm fairly sure it sabotages her husband's ability to play in my games, so I have to write them both off if I actually want consistent players.

No real horror stories other than the crushing feeling of nogames. It's just a sucky situation.
>>

She never really did anything that implied she took a vow of silence. Like, normally, if a player doesn't want their character to say anything, then they would say "He says nothing." or something similar to me. She would literally went mute during sessions. This pretty much made me and the players have to just react to nothing to keep it from getting too awkward most of the time. We made it work, but I doubt her idea was to play a silent character.

Are you positive it wasn't just shyness? One time I had a normie join the game and she pulled a similar act. Whenever it came time to roleplay she basically just froze up.

Gotta ease em into it, explain that it's a little like improv acting so everyone can imagine what's going on in the game better, and that it makes it more fun and interesting.

If she was some next level rper, then color me surprised. It didn't come off as deliberate roleplay, just came off as really weird at the time.

>>44654748
>playing fantasy role-playing game
>you can do anything you want in the game
>even if you would never be able to do it in real life
>implying you wouldn't just ignore 90% of people and go kill dragons if you could

No but seriously she probably just thought of some "awesome" secret like the knight was actually a skeleton so he didn't talk so no one would hear his rattley bone voice, or he had his tongue removed because he rebelled heroically against some evil overlord, and thought it was fun to roleplay him being totally stoic and mysterious. I've played groanworthy characters like that before. Act weird for the first session or two, hope there's an opportunity to reveal why you're so weird later and everyone will be like "oh shit!" It feels like you're really pulling one over on the group, but afterwards you always feel silly.
>>
>>44655194

Why would she be? Some girls probably wish they were monstergirls, I wish they were monstergirls too.
>>
>>44655613
>We all knew her since we were freshmen. She just went near catatonic during the game.

Same story with my normie grill. She was long time friends with another player but just tripped up.

You gotta understand that women are usually less outgoing than men. They seize up in unfamiliar situations way more frequently, so you gotta try to relate it to something they understand and baby step them through the process. It sucks, I wish I had known how to handle the normie when she went full catatonic, but you live and you learn.

I've since successfully dealt with other players starting to go inert by explaining the meta process of what's going on. "So we're basically doing a little improv acting because it helps everyone at the table imagine what's going on in the game world. Remember your drama classes, or even when you played make-believe as a kid? Same idea. For example, [player to her left], you've got [situation occurring in front of you], what are you doing?" And then shuffle it over to her turn after seeing some of the others in practice.

Also, a little booze helps. A lot of booze helps even more.
>>
One time we were playing a game where we were all evil characters, and one of the players brought his girlfriend over. Though most of the party's characters had done all sorts of fucked up things throughout the course of the campaign, she trumped everyone in her first session by having her character rip some guy's intestines out of his scrotum. I forgot the rest of the stuff she did to him, but it was fucked up and we would never ever be the same after that.

Craziest person I ever played with was my girlfriend's roommate.

She DM'd the session and insisted on having a DMPC join the group. Willow was an elf druid with a wolf companion. I played a half-elf necromancer.

Anyway, every puzzle we have to solve involves this obnoxious elf druid saving the day. Only she can open doors in the ancient city, only she can see the traps (never minding Druids don't get trapfinding and the party Rogue was searching). Not only that, she kept insulting my cleric for being only "half an elf". She refused to cast healing spells on me as well, since apparently this druid could tell I was evil.

Suddenly a bunch of skeletons attack! BINGO, I'd been waiting for this moment. I Rebuke undead and suddenly have 4 human skeletons under my control.
"What do you want the skeletons to do?"
"I command them to attack Willow".

The DM's face kind of spasms. She wasn't expecting this. But I've got willow trapped, the skeletons all full attack. 8 claw attacks later and an inflict light wounds from my cleric, and willow is dead.

The DM starts bawling. I have reduced this girl to tears. Everyone is shocked, myself included. The DM storms off to her bed room.

The next day I talked to my girlfriend about it. Turns out Willow was more than just a DMPC, Willow was this girls imaginary friend, like schizophrenic imaginary friend. And I had killed her.

The girl stopped going to classes. She failed the semester and left college.

I feel some guilt, but also I didn't realize the gravity of the situation.

Yeah, the girl was awkward, really nerdy, but thats like most of the people at art school. As the veteran D&D player, I felt I was doing a good thing by throwing a curve ball into the story, a lesson against railroading and special snowflake DM-PCs that steal the spotlight.

Had I known, I wouldn't have done it.

He's a good guy but he's not good at saying no. The story was really well done and quite challenging when wee were facing mind-control-immune enemies. The rest of the time the Psion instant-won every encounter, or at worst had to cast TWO spells in order to win. I chalk it up to the player being really nice and pushy and he didn't want to deny her awesome spells and powers.

Honestly the experience was so bad that I outright banned mind reading and mind control in every campaign I run or play. If there's going to be mind control I'm not interested. Nothing is worse than being told your character shouldn't act the way you want because they got memory-modified into remembering or believing something another character chose.

Of course, I'm in a new campaign with the same That Girl, who promised not to use mind control. Now instead of mind control her character can possess people and make them do whatever she wants, with very few limitations. Non-suicidal actions is not one of those limitations, meaning she can kill anyone so long as they've got something sharp or bullet-inducing in arm's reach. It's gotten so bad that the GM has resorted to sending waves of dudes at the party because any boss enemy not completely immune to her powers dies almost instantly.
>>

Sounds like her life was basically a trainwreck, and having one of the voices in her head get BTFO by someone from the real world (or at least, the pretend wizard avatar of a real person) forced her to come back to reality pretty hard. That's a net positive in my eyes.
>>
Oh hey, a "That Person" thread. Time to scroll through the replies to stories for fa/tg/ords screaming 'NO YOU'RE THAT GUY' as they always do.
>>
>>44657875
Why do you think I'm bitching about it on /tg/? Did I also mention that she possesses long-term hosts (she's intangible most of the time) to use as meat shells so she can fight? Did I mention that she already has, or plans to, have sex using these host bodies? And that the people she's hitting on really don't want to sleep with her but she's being incredibly forceful and persistent? I dropped the game because That Girl was literally planning on raping at least one person, maybe two at once, and she didn't understand why both I and my character were incredibly disgusted by that. She refused to change her behaviour and I just couldn't take it anymore.

>>44657720
Like I said, really great guy but very permissive and unwilling to nerf or reject characters. Apparently he's been trying to limit or work around her powers but she's iron-clad about keeping her abilities. In her mind these abilities define her character and if they don't work exactly the way she wants them to then she's going to complain until she gets her way.

Eventually, because I really like her in real life (she's That Girl sure but only in-game, out of game she's really sweet and nice) and because the rest of the group members are bros, I'm re-joining the game. Making a character that doesn't give two fucks about possession or ethics and who is so weak and frail that her possession ability makes her no more deadly than any other person who might want to kill him. He also has no intrinsic martial or magical powers so she's gain nothing by hijacking his 65-year-old decrepit body (which also gives her zero reason to want to sleep with him).

These are poor excuses for poor character development. I don't care about "muh mary sure" but her skills shred the movie's atmosphere. It didn't feel like a star wars movie because she did not work for her force powers and was never faced with any real challenge or obstacle.

See this is the thing: When you're trying to educate someone by "teaching them a lesson", you're immediately wrong.
As always, once again the entire crisis was a failure of communication on both sides.

She shouldn't have just let you do what you wanted without saying a thing about her DMPC and you should've talked to her about the DMPC being obnoxious.

Mankind evolved to have the ability to communicate and yet constantly almost every single one of our failures comes back to failing at communication.

Leaving her as she was would have been even worse. Obviously professional help would be preferred, but seeing as how her roomate (anon's gf) knew about this, and hadn't saw fit to refer her to a doctor or whatever (nor did her parents, if they knew), we can both say that professional help was not coming any time soon.

The incident is fucking stupid but here goes:

>Game comes out on PC that a lot of us are stoked to play
>Supports private servers
>One of our friends who has a FiOS connection sets up a private server, makes sure it can handle as many players as we'll ever want without a hiccup
>But due to it being a private server there is a slight setup to allow connection to it
>Server is up, friend is guiding everyone through the installation step
>Gets to Guy
>We're all on Steam Voice Chat, she can be heard in the background just sounding annoyed because she doesn't want to play the game
>Because of this he is constantly distracted and what is normally a ten minute setup takes over an hour, but my friend is really close the guy (Like they were best friend tier) so he's dealing
>Finally he's able to connect: "I gotta go for dinner. I'll be back in two hours."
>Friend: "Uh... it's like 9, you didn't eat yet?"
>Guy: "I gotta go for dinner. I'll be back in two hours."
>Friend: "Don't you usually go to bed around 11?"
>Guy: "...Yeah."
>Friend: "...I'll be right back. Getting off headset."
>He just mutes headset, his Sister steps in and starts talking
>Sister: "...You know Friend worked really hard setting up this server and he really wanted to play with you. Can't you manage anything? Like make something simpler?"
>Guy: "I'll be back in two hours." Girlfriend can be heard muttering something in background
>Sister: "Please? Can you eat at your desk?"
>Guy: "I'll be back in two hours."
>Sister: "Come on... he really, REALLY wants to play this with you. He was talking about it all day today."
>Guy: "...Whatever." and logs off

And that was the last time he was on Steam, a few months ago. Cellphone calls are ignored... we have no idea but it was just bizarre.

The romantic idea is that the member of a Lord's retinue dies with him in battle, failing to do so and letting the Lord die on his own is a great shame

Find synonyms for it that convey the same idea, and see which one is more common on google or whatever. I think there's a way to search for the number of times a word/phrase has been used in books.

For instance, calling someone pusillanimous would get you weird looks while calling someone a coward would get the point across despite both meaning the same concept.

Homosexuality can be cured with shock therapy. Anxiety can be cured with exposure and cognitive therapy. The mind can be rehabilitated, same as the body.

Your education was flawed. You were taught your views by one of the "We should accept people for who they are and treat them as a normal part of life" crowd. Nah son, you just have to work at it. If what you're doing / how you're talking isn't working, stop doing it.

Well let's put it this way.
If i kill your character in a roleplaying game. Does that mean you have forever lost the ability to think with that characters mind? You can't ever again adapt his point of view and thus can never roleplay as him again.

No, that does not happen.
Same here.

>some just need to be pushed in.
And you have the right to decide that because you are the most sane, most normal person and elected uplifter of the lazy degenerates yes?

>Homosexuality can be cured with shock therapy.
Thinking that homosexuality can be cured can also be cured with shock therapy.
>Anxiety can be cured with exposure and cognitive therapy
Key part being the "and cognitive therapy".
If you just force someone with anxiety to be exposed to the source of that anxiety chances are the anxiety is going to be even stronger, because the perception of the situation is altered.
source: I have been in years of therapy for that.

>Or have you not noticed how people are more openly gay now that homosexuality is accepted as a non-pathology
What a fucking twist. If something is deemed socially acceptable people won't try to hide it and are more comfortable exploring it.

Shouldn't you be shitposting on /pol/?

No, official diagnosis, Aspergers, by some Psychiatrists at Shellharbour Hospital.

Damned if I know how they came to that conclusion since I match so few of the symptoms, but given how often good ol' 4chan accuses me of being a sperg, it's probably accurate.

>If i kill your character in a roleplaying game. Does that mean you have forever lost the ability to think with that characters mind? You can't ever again adapt his point of view and thus can never roleplay as him again.
Of course not, because they never existed in the first place! The can't be gone because they are not a unique entity.

>Same here.
Except, from what the crazy bitch's roommate said, she truly does believe that her imaginary friend is dead. We're not talking about a normal person here.

You are correct.

>If you just force someone with anxiety to be exposed to the source of that anxiety chances are the anxiety is going to be even stronger, because the perception of the situation is altered.
There are many variables but genuinely if you expose them to the anxiety source and remove the source BEFORE they reach panic point, it trains them to endure it.

>What a fucking twist. If something is deemed socially acceptable people won't try to hide it and are more comfortable exploring it.
And the way you act influences the way you think. Practice acting like a {thing} and, over time, you learn to think like the {thing}.

To be honest mate, without examples of your actual speech that causes problems, I can't say.

From this thread you just seem stiff and very emotionless.

I did not say that, but we live in an individualist society and if someone wants to force their personal will upon others they can fuck right off.

Having fear can also be cured by lobotomy of a certain part of the brain.
Having a personality and thoughts in general can also be cured with a swift guillotine-ing.

Just because we can change things with brute force doesn't mean we should.

> it trains them to endure it
That's not the same as overcoming it, and is thus an inferior solution.

>And the way you act influences the way you think. Practice acting like a {thing} and, over time, you learn to think like the {thing}.
So what's your point?
None of this is relevant to any of the 'society should do XY' things you said.

Also Trump is a psycho. But since he's not going to do most of what bullshit he says he's at least better than the economy-education challenged opponents.

That's just a matter of making sure the Fed does its job right with proper oversight, and not getting rid of it entirely.

I don't want a repeat of the Articles of Confederation, and Jackson was an idiotic hick.

Nationalizing the banks and taking control of our currency would be a great economic boon, since we wouldn't be sandwiched between forced debt inflation and a 6% tithe on taxes to the bankers.

Neither RPGs nor Machineguns are heavy, indiscriminate weapons.
Biological weapons (plagues) are indiscriminate weapons, and I would ban them from civilian use.
Nuclear weapons, Landmines and Firebombing are semi-discriminate, and I would suggest restricting them to only well-organised county militias.
But the RPG and the Machinegun are direct. They fuck what you point them at. (And the RPG also fucks what's in the opposite direction and close to you)

>>44660026

The representation of Willow in that game.

>>44660053
>That's just a matter of making sure the Fed does its job right with proper oversight, and not getting rid of it entirely.
At this point it's like trying to salvage a soup after you accidentally dropped dirt into it.
You may be able to get out the biggest chunks, but the soup will still taste awful and will also give you digestion problems.

It's not just the fed either, the entire economic and political system is in severe need of an overhaul.
And it's not like it's some impossible task, the bodies of the EU are constantly gaining or losing significance, so it wouldn't be too difficult to just slowly phase out the senate and have more tightly controlled congressmen.
