For those of us outside the fandom of the franchise in question; what is it and what does it do?

We can assume that it's an FTL warship from name and image, but what else is there that distinguishes it from any other FTL warship?
And for that matter, are we talking SG:1 or ST:Voyager level technology here? Near-future missile batteries and photonic torpedoes aren't the same thing.
>>
>>44632522
It is a Akkan Battlecruiser. It is a former cruise-liner turned war ship. It is capable of limited terraforming and can function as a carrier.

turkey orders tubitak (turkish technological research group) to find out what it is, tubitak calls in researchers from metu(middle east technical university) to aid in the research

after it has been confirmed that it is an alien aircraft a coalition is formed from a multitude of allied countries whom send in researchers to study this aircraft which skyrockets western technology

>terraforming and constructive abilities
Okay that's neat.
Honestly that sounds far more interesting than the destructive stuff.

As for what happens... UN ends up sending a peacekeeping force because every other world superpower wants a piece of it and can't decide how/if to share.
Turkey feels shafted but with America's massive throbbing military shaft in their faces they kick up just enough fuss as to get a disproportionately large slice of the xenotech pie and then remain largely quiet.

After that it's hard to say. What is understood, retro-engineered first? If it's terraforming, then.. maybe all of Russia is turned into verdant fields of arable land, I don't know. If it's FTL, a new space race occurs. Military equipment? Depends. Particle beams, lasers, kinetics? Each of those could do tons for related technologies.
Honestly, post-contact might as well be post-singularity for all the good you can get out of speculation. After a while you just don't know.

Its destroyed by militant religious extremists before anything can be done with it because aliens aren't in the approved guidelines.

>Archaeologists finds one of these buried in Ararat, Turkey.

My gut instinct? No-one believes they found it 'buried'. First response is it's some sort of military project that Turkey had kept underwraps until this public reveal.

I don't think people would believe that for long, but I think it will one of the initial responses.

NATO demands of Turkey that it allows the organisation to deploy a massive military presence and engineering and research teams to the site, along with large-scale construction of fortifications and military bases; they justify this on the grounds of global security and by virtue of the superior technological expertise of the U.S. and Western Europe. They offer a wide-range of privileges, treaties, and gifts to Turkey if they acquiesce, including at least some of the technology attained by research into the relic, and threatening expulsion from NATO, denunciation and status as a pariah state, and "forced confiscation, for the safety of humanity" (invasion and puppet regime) if they do not. Turkey might acquiesce as a safe and sanctioned means of attaining global significance and prestige, gaining many geopolitical concessions, admission into a dominant position within the EU and NATO, and potential propulsion into an extremely powerful and technologically advanced economy; or it might not, and try to play the superpowers against each other to gain far more than they would otherwise, albeit at extreme risk and diplomatic ostracisation. This will incite immediate conflict between Russia and NATO, regardless of which option Turkey chooses to pursue, and other nations -- particularly China and probably India, the former almost certainly on Russia's side -- will also enter the debate. Russia and China will enter a propaganda frenzy (as will the West, hopefully to a lesser extent), stirring up media campaigns about the inevitable hegemony and threat of the West should they allow NATO unchallenged access to the relic, and threatening war if NATO does not at least share the technologies attained (spies will steal almost all of them as they enter circulation, anyway, but it will still be a massive edge to the first military that secures them). War may happen anyway, particularly if the West is accused of holding out on anything.

Regardless, our technology leaps.

Zone gets captured by russians, NATO retaliates, every other country capable of fighting joins, shitstorm intensifies. After a year or two everything settles down, technologic leap happens. Actually, I think it's infinitely more possible that Russia and NATO collaborate on this one, providing specialists and resources to reverse-engineer the damn thing, giving them both with a substantial boon to space exploration process, while not dicking over each other and retaining the semblance of a power-balance and preventing the risk of nuclear warfare escalation. And seriously though - neither Russia nor USA has the capacity to pull that kind of a project on their own.

Plus it's goddamn Akkan. Outside of the Phase Drive it's just a hunk of welded steel with some shitty space!Flankers, a biosphere habitat and a barely-usable ion cannon. It will not make nukes irrelevant.
>>
>>44632991
Actually, Islam recognizes the existence of aliens, since we believe in angels, djinns, shaitan etc, it's not so far a stretch. Some traditions on the Prophets israk mikraj reports the Prophet seeing Greys on other planets even.
>>
>>44639835
Would they be accepted if they tried to convert?
>>
>>44639769
USA totally does have the capacity to do that on their own - from a financial and manpower standpoint. They'd run it through an allied coalition because their military industrial complex is so large it subsidies the major arms manufacturers of their allies with the exception of the french native arms industry. They'd get the goods at the end.

Russia's logistical and intellectual infrastructure to carry out a project of this scale would be nigh impossible - much of their own R&D is funded primarily by the Indians who have become increasingly cold to the prospect of continuing funding for the progress the Russian MoD makes. They've had literal decades of any engineer worth their salt leaving Russia to the EU.

Would the US probably invite the Russians in after they secure the site under NATO pretenses and everyone starts realizing the geopolitical implications? Very probably, it'd coincide with much of the international nuclear policy and conventional threat sharing both countries do to inform the others to a base degree of what they're capable of as this it prevents a wildly destabilizing arms race fueled by suspicion and exaggeration like the cold war.

The most instantly valuable technology in the Akkan would likely be the planetary-scale terraforming capability which would functionally solve a lot of ecological problems on earth. Then after that the phase drive.

How big is the Akkan? I remember the ships having relatively normal crew but those windows look real small
>>
>>44639895
>USA totally does have the capacity to do that on their own - from a financial and manpower standpoint
Not exactly. Reality is not a video game - it doesn't work like "Throw 20 billion dollars at a problem and scientists and infrastructure magically appear out of thin air". Whole PLANET would be severely underhanded to deal with the mystery of the Phase Drive and shielding technologies. Nobody will be exactly in a position to throw world leaders in space-fairing and runner-ups in theoretical physics and unorthodox math out of the loop.

>Russia's logistical and intellectual infrastructure to carry out a project of this scale would be nigh impossible - much of their own R&D is funded primarily by the Indians who have become increasingly cold to the prospect of continuing funding for the progress the Russian MoD makes. That's a tiniest bit of an insane hyperbole.

Now that's reasonable. But again - the project would require a bit more resources and manpower than US military complex can muster at a flick of the fingers.

>the planetary-scale terraforming capability
I actually don't remember Akkan being capable of terraforming. it only dropped outposts with minimal necessities and skeleton crew, which then required resources from the rest of the Coalition to develop themselves and terraform the planet.

+++Noah's Log 8-6-34528+++
RAVEN is still undergoing maintenance though it was able to scan a few systems that might be of interest before it was forced to come back. We've had to make due with only the DOVE as of late so finding a viable planet to settle has been slow due to the fact it can only explore one planetary body at a time. I have had the science team program it to scan worlds within the orbital regions around stars that are most likely have favorable conditions.

+++Noah's Log 8-11-34532+++
Praise Jehovah! Not only has DOVE successfully returned to us a second time, it has also returned with coordinates of a viable location to resettle and has brought with it a sample! The reports from the science team has told me it's part of some sort of terrestrial plant. They seem to believe that the planet from which this plant originates is survivable but somewhat different than what we are accustomed too. While this is much needed good news, our fortune grows ever thin as do our chances of survival. More problems are arising with this ship on a daily basis and supplies are beginning run low. If we do not find a suitable world soon, I fear that soon this ship may become an ark of lost souls.

+++Noah's Log 8-12-34549+++
Our situation has become dire, The ship was hit by an errant object traveling through the void. Fuel tank 3 has been obliterated by the impact and tank 4 is slowly leaking despite our best efforts to fix it. We only have enough fuel for one jump left and to make matters worse, we sent DOVE out for a third time over seven cycles ago and it has not returned to us. As a result, I have decided to take our chances with the planet in the system where the plant sample came from, rather than look for a possibly more suitable world. I will order the crew to restart the reanimation pools. With any luck, our sons will find a new life here on this new world. This maybe the best chance we have for a future, our Lord be willing.
