Better let it stay forgotten, anon.
>>
Bury it in a bunker mile below the desert without noticeable landmarks

Burn any maps that lead there
>>
>>44581252
Roll it back to 2nd ed.
>>
>>44581252
Easy. Find someone who remember the realms.
>>
Does Wizards make any sourcebooks anymore?
>>
>>44581377
This is the only solution.

Tone down the incest and swords.
>>
>>44581575
I'll admit I could do with a bit less incest. I edit some of the incest out in my games, in fact.
>>
>>44581252
Burn it with fire and give everyone scary brain powers.

The wincest is the only good part of FR.

>actually wanting excessive book bloat
Do DMs not do their jobs anymore? Making up the setting is literally the only fun part of it.

If that artist doesn't draw porn I am going to be upset. That bottom face has my dick so hard it has DR 15/-.

It's what made 1e, and some parts of 2e so great.
There was a time when the books specifically said "We want the sword coast to be somewhat vague so DMs can put what they want out there," only detailing the cities to the far north and the far south, and hinting at baronies and kingdoms in between, among the monster infested hell holes, and ancient tombs.

Before Netheril got butchered (a 2e publishing move that so many 2e enthusiasts love to forget), it was purposefully left vague because as Ed put it, he wanted Netheril to represent the crazy magic items or weird technology that a part finds that the DM realizes he can't explain off hand.
Since everyone's Netheril would be slightly different as a result, why the fuck should it ever get more than a casual glance by the books?

The one thing 2e Realms did far better than 1e Realms, was that it gave an idea of how a theoretical timeline would advance, which given that few DM sources talked about how things should change over years of time, was a nice bit.
Though it was a bit sad that TSR/WotC retconned practically everything that the book talked about changing, from the Printing Press seeing more widespread use, to firearms becoming a common military tool, and so on.

It's why I say the Realms were fucked shortly after birth. Since the end of AD&D1e editorial oversight has vastly changed the setting, and it has only progressively gone worse.

How so? It's still a mysterious ancient empire that produced weird magic, at least from the few books I've read.

Look up the Netheril Boxed Set from AD&D.
It was written by a guy who resented the fact he was expected to write in someone else's canon, and who thought making references to pop culture, particularly song names, would make for fitting FR material.

The entire set is a mess that tries to simultaneously suggest that Netheril was a bunch of independent jerks, a bunch of jerks who worked together, and a bunch of nazis who somehow forgot the existence of every other empire and civilization that existed at the time.

It gets worse when you realize Myth Drannor was around at the time.

uhhh, well good thing I never read that one then. Easy enough to ignore.

Remove all NPCs above level 10. The place will fall apart without them, making it much more friendly to crazed adventuring bands like the PCs.

We kill off Elminster, or at least retcon him to a max. level wizard without his OP powers and make people realize that the Harpers are a bunch of Stupid Good and Chaotic Stupid, irritating nutcases.

These two are out of the picture in the impact on the world department and technology marches on releasing the setting from medieval stasis.

A thousand or four thousand years later and we have pic related since we have modern times now.

Double-down on the camp.

Realize that it is not a self-sustaining world (like Eberron or even Planescape is, within the structure of it's unique traits), but a playground for PCs, and screw with genre tropes to fit.

In Cormyr and the Dalelands, a proper license permits you to settle your undead minions in town for the night. In Waterdeep, the economy is an utter mess because it's been flooded from artifacts from Undermountain, which seem to be effectively endless. Dark Elves from Menzoberranzan show up everywhere getting people to pay protection money. Thayan Red Wizards are in every single town, and their enclaves are basically the Wal-Mart of magical items. Infiltrating the Zhentarim finds their HQ is basically just an office building staffed with Baatezu, complete with cubicles and coffee.

In short, don't take it seriously. Forgotten Realms practically makes fun of itself on it's own, so just roll with it and see where it goes.
