Since we've had a lot of fun with games like King of Dragon Pass, Master of Orion, FTL and the like in the past, I figured I'd try my hand at a cooperative game of Sunless Sea.

I don't really know much about the game other than it's some kind of weird Victorian Lovecraft-esque semi-procedurally generated game about sailing an evil ocean. The basic story is as you see: London sank into some kind of spooky underground ocean called the Unterzee, and that's about it. It's dark, spooky, full of monsters and an altogether shitty place to be. I've only really played for less than an hour, so I don't know much other than the basics, because it'll probably be more fun that way. I know people will probably do it anyway, but try not to spoil too much.

So we're going to start with character creation in a little while.

>WHO WERE YOU?

>A street urchin
>Your urchin-gang cast you out when you grew too tall. You took to the sea rather than graduate to larger crimes. That last big score was enough to buy a ship.
>This will give you a bonus to Veils, the skill of subtlety and evasion.

>A poet!
>Educated and articulate, you seek sensation at sea. Your long-vanished father had a rich patron, it seems.
>This will give you a bonus to Pages, the skill of trickery and knowledge.

>Veteran of the Campaing of '68
>You fought in the invasion of Hell. London's armies lost. You survived. Your loot and pension have bought you a command.
>This will give you a bonus to Iron, the skill of causing direct damage.

>An ordained priest
>You feel from grace. There is nothing left ashore for you. An anonymous benefactor has found this way out for you. Perhaps, at zee, you can overcome your appetites.
>This will give you a bonus to Hearts, the skill of healing and morale.

>A natural philosopher
>Your peculiar theories on time, blood and starlight brought you to the Neath, the cavern where London lies... and now they take you out to zee.
>This will give you a bonus to Mirrors, the skill of detection and perception.

/tg/ is definitely an orphan. There are no poets, warriors, priests or philosophers here. Only neckbeards, Those Guys, faggots and weebs. The outcasts of society.

Fine. You were a street urchin. You've gained some stuff, most notably an officer, the Longshanks Gunner. Also, a new objective, to talk to a girl. Surely this will be a challenge for our neckbearded urchin zailor!

Time to select your ambition! Are you searching for your long-lost father's bones, writing a series of adventure novels based on your journeys, or just trying to amass as much money as possible?

The Private Kingdom ambition is locked out for now, so no becoming king just quite yet.

Fine, we're my Lady Moot, a former orphan turned Unterzee captain searching for our father's bones. We are also may or may not be some kind of androgynous neckbeard.

Either way, there's not too many choices to be made right now since we haven't been to zee yet, so I'll just talk to the crew, get some objectives and post the screenshots. Once that's over, you'll get to pick where to go.

Since I couldn't post for a while due to /tg/ fuckery, there will be a series of images of pretty much routine shit right now. First up is a new objective, to sail north to a place called Whither for mutersalt which we can trade for info on dear old dad.

Also, a visit to the main source of income right now, the Admiralty Survey Office. Basically, you give them info on any ports you come across, they give you money and fuel.

Also, a slightly bigger mission. Find somewhere called Gaier's Mourn in the Corsair's Forest. Which is... somewhere, I guess?

Got some Recent News by reading the paper. Mainly some small bits of fluff that can be used as a resource to be traded in certain places. It's probably a little important to note that we can only have one at a time.

And finally, we played with our mascot, the Comatose Ferret. He's kind of a useless shit at the best of times.

And with that, it's time to set sail! We're only really limited by our supplies and our fuel. Since Fallen London is in the west, that's the only real direction we can't go. Where to?
>>
>>44540689
Take the tomb colonist to the tomb colony, then we'll see if we can go further north.
>>
>>44540663
Tomb-Colonists: Death is more an inconvenience than anything in the Unterzee - generally someone will come around and sew you up and you'll be just fine. Unless you're too mangled, in which case you'll end up being bundled up up and bundled off to Venderbight, the Tomb-Colony, populated largely by near-ossified wrecks who sit around moldering and wheezing and having duels every day because they're run out of any other interesting thing to do. Do not accept candles from them.

Alternately, you may end up dead from being drowned, eaten, or sliced into tiny bits, which there is rather less coming back from.

North it is.

I figure I should explain how this works. You gain Fragments (essentially EXP) by finding new landmarks and creatures, at least primarily. Hence I will do my best to fill out the map when moving to our destination without running out of fuel and supplies. I will also assume that we will land at every port possible, since we get money, story snippets and various bonuses for doing so.

So for now we will dock at Hunter's Keep, a tiny island to the north east of London.

It's a creepy old house. We have three options.

>Present ourselves.
>Walk in the gardens.
>Spy on the island (100%) success rate due to high Veils

I will automatically reconnoitre before we leave, since all it does is give you port info to bring to the Admiralty and there is literally no reason to not just do it.

Word of advice. Turn the lights off when not in combat (and even then, only if the enemy has already noticed you) or you absolutely need it to combat high (>80) terror. Or you'll be out of fuel very quick. Managing terror is easier than managing fuel.
>>
>>44541103
>Managing terror is easier than managing fuel.
Fuel is available at basically every second port for a few echos, and the economy of sunless sea is painfully easy to exploit. Even if you run out of fuel you can turn supplies into emergency fuel or pray to any of the 3 gods. Terror is a much greater concern since it carries the risk of RNG killing off your crew and leaving you stuck at half speed.

I will take that piece of advice.

Also, due to unfortunately encountering the pirates head on, it was impossible to avoid taking a few hits as we maneuvered into their dead zone and sunk them. We take what few valuables these rats have.

Prayers suck.

Storm is the only even remotely good option, but still unreliable.

Stone has turned into a huge fuck you with the recent patches that apparently have really wired it's RNG. Or maybe I'm just unlucky, but it was my go-to option in earlier patches. But not now. Plus it may kill you.

Salt I won't even mention. It is a Fuck You in the form of story let. You're better off testing your luck with flares.

>Fuel is available at basically every second port for a few echos, and the economy of sunless sea is painfully easy to exploit.

To make it exploitable you need to make scores of milkruns before you have a sizable capital (meaning, you actually going to need fuel to do this, which diminshes the returns even more), and that's an autistic faggot way of playing. Exploration for life.

Plus, it's not really every second port. Third at best, and they are not spread evenly, which can be even further accentualised by their random placing. Plus, to reliably survive on supplies if you run out of fuel you need sizable stock of those, which is impossible on early game ships.
TL;DR if our Cap gets to middlegame he can and should start burning fuel. But until then, terror is preferable.

And now we have to choose whether to let this fugitive figure shit out on his own, or help him hide from the fuzz.

After this decision is made, the game will auto-save and I will take a pause until 4chan decides to not be a huge shit and drop dead for ten-fifteen minutes between every other post. Seriously, it's taken several hours for like 15 minutes of gameplay.

I just started playing this lately, and mostly I've been dying horribly after a few hours of gameplay. How do I make enough money to buy a bigger ship?
>>
>>44541474
Salt Lions.
Venturing Merchant.
Clay men (From Polythreme)
Admiralty tasks - don't submit the fStrategic Information the moment you get it. Get two pieces from two commisions, combine them and submit that. It's more lucrative and opens some new options.
Principles of Coral - win some chest games, get scyntillack, sell on the market or to the Venturing Merchant if he asks for it.

Save up for the corvette, I think (the second next ship in the list after your starting one), skip the one that goes right after your starter. The corvette is sturdy enough not to worry about dying from angler's sneeze, so you can look up more stories and cash.

Later, after you get a ship with actual cargo space, start hauling cofee to the Surface, deal in mirrorcatch boxes and red honey. Be friends with Blind Bruiser, his chores are a bitch but he's the best buyer for your mirrorcatches, Cat Islanders are cunts.
>>
>>44541380
You might need to actually earn them from playing Fallen London. I forget if any of them happen just from a linked account.
>>
>>44541620
None of them is given from just linked account. You need to finish some stories in FL to get those.
