I think they look terrible painted. Never seen one guy paint them well and OSL is hard to paint as good as IRL light or even clear plastic.
No bubble > bubble > painted.
Obviously if you don't want green you're fucked. I remember seeing a site where you can buy little rods like this from a third party in colors like red, orange, blue, and purple, specifically made for GW Necrons.

Just paint them over, treating them like a normal barrel instead of some glowing thingamabob. The clash between the unpainted rods and the painted everythign else isn't a good thing anyway.
