How do you deal with love and romance in your games /tg/

If it's between PCs: Drive a wedge between them immediately and/or kill them

If it's between PC and NPC: That means the DM has to play the part of the NPC and that's no good.

We play d&d. Not TT simdate.

Unless it's super cringey and starts getting in the way of the game, why would you try to murder them or push them away? It's mean spirited and it'll only make them dislike you. It's worse if it's with people you know in real life.
>>
>>44516891
Two fat dudes trying to seduce/romanticize each other through their toons is cringey as shit. Besides who said I'd be the one doing the work?

it's fun and cute. I'm playing in a WoD game right now and my character is about to go on a date with the party's demonic boss. IDK we're a bunch of adults who've all dated at some point in our lives so roleplaying it out really isn't that much of an issue. Be cool, don't get explicitly sexual, don't hog too much screentime, etc.

no

no no no don't say that word, don't you ever say that awful stupid wretched word

With immediate misfortune. Bards taking a liking to the bakers daughter? Guess who's dying in a flour fire. The amazon has decided who will be her future husband? Guess who's going to be killed by bandits while the amazon is helpless to watch. Rangers found an equally rangery ranger to bang in the forests and share the secrets of his past with? Guess who actually thinks the whole deal is a casual affair and would literally rather die than be tied down.

My group has 2 PC's dating and will literally be getting married in character next session. Player relationships are hilarious and fun if you don't act like a faggot about them.

It also helps that the players are 30+ yo and one of them is married with kids.

I think the biggest problem with RPG romances is when college kids freak out it and make it weird. It's a story and everyone knows that.

>Full disclosure, I am a college kid and would probably make it weird if I were the one doing it.

We haven't dealt with that yet.

Sometimes a character's story arc involves being romantically involved with an NPC and that's fine. Depending on the system and the type of campaign, it could be a highly engaging story element. For example, I once played in an intrigue-heavy campaign in which a PC's romantic entanglement with the empress became a recurring plot thread. Because the campaign had a heavy focus on social conflicts, the romance as a source of strife for the PC was a great fit for the game's larger plot.
However, there are definitely many campaigns where a romance would be totally inappropriate. If the romantic elements are out of place in the campaign and are being shoehorned in by either the player or the GM, then we fucking talk about it like we would any other element of the game we feel isn't working. A simple "I would rather not take this direction with this character, can we work something else out narratively?" or just "Dude, stop flirting in-character like that, it's weird" will fix the problem. It's only weird if you make it so.

if it is between players i subtly kill off one the characters in a way that would have the other character go on a quest to avenge them, but one that they ultimately fail at and die

if it is between a PC and NPC, i put the NPC in extreme danger that forces the PC to question their morals and ethics in the quest to rescue them, ultimaly having the NPC remark on how much they have changed to save them, and that they are not the same person that the fell for, which, depending on how i pushed the character, may or may not result in the accidental killing of the love, which turns the party against them, usually resulting in more player death

tragic love is the best love

The way to do it is to make it a curse.
>This cursed item will make you love the first _____ you see.
Happened to me. I was making a disciple -type character as my alternative PC (for use when my main is recharging or healing, or uninterested...). Well, the first beauty my main saw was to become his love. I had a resist, but it was a quadruple fumble.

Then a Kraken ate her. I'm still out for revenge.

That means with a lot of drama, like occasional bouts of violence, infidelity, arguing over money, shirking one's responsibilities and such?
>>
Depends on the tone of the game but it can be comedic, magical realm, or played straight.

Current game is a combo of all three it seems.

I roll on the wife table.

Unless we're playing dnd, in which case I roll on the wench table.
>>
>>44516861
why?? because you're an autistic abomination who can't roleplay any feelings?
surely you just do a "roll for diplomacy" every conversation....

also, why drive a wedge between them, this could be a great motivaion for players...

people like you disgust me!

As a long time adult old git I have to tell you that the adult way of dealing with romance and matters of the heart and other tangentially related organs is exactly saem as we did at 17. An old man is mentally the same as a 17 year old plus having a really bad day.

By making it low key and having actions speak louder than words.

And also romancing my girlfriend's PC so she can draw porn comics for what happens outside of the group's knowledge

Romance is essentially just another conflict, albeit with different stakes than, say, combat. Approach it with an open mind, and it'll enrich the playing experience.

Doesn't have one. She just has a sketchbook for our characters' relationship that she adds to when inspiration strikes or when I have a request.

Farm boy-turned fighter has a Drow stalker who is Yandere for him thanks to a last-ditch scroll reading being an amplified charm spell. Even drugged him, threatened a priest into marrying them, and consummated it on the alter. Now when he gets even the slightest hint that the "Mrs." might be in town, we gotta drag him in.

Sadly I haven't had the chance to play in a while, but when this did happen in my old gaming group (before we all got jobs and 80% of us emigrated) we mostly just had two characters holding hands and occasionally talking asinine romantic shit to each other. No one got to ERP.

The biggest effect it had on the group was my failure of druid (at the time I was boxing and kickboxing a lot) and the party cleric (he was part of the uni martial arts clubs) constantly telling them

"Don't let her hold you by the elbow you cretin!"

I gave him so much shit about it that I think that every time my wife tries to hold me by the elbow...
>>
>>44516839

I absolutely forbid it at my table. My players must play their characters as agendered and uninterested in sex at all or face harsh consequences.

Then I throw carefully crafted and waifuable characters in their path, with whom they are encouraged to interact with for extended periods, who, as NPCs, are exempt from the same restrictions.

I do this because it's my fetish.
>>
>>44516839
Gingerly.
Which given that my character is big mclargehuge, the ripsmash tearinator, is probably detrimental to my roleplay.

But after a year long campaign my character did finally get laid on purpose, albeit not with the first crush, so there you go.

Seemed adequate, now DM is threatening to kill the boyfriend. So it goes.
>>
>>44516839
High impact sexual violence.

It doesn't happen in my games. Sadly.
