The year is 2016 and the United States is dominated by petty-bourgeois ideology. The people chafe under the capitalist yoke, but are too numbed by propaganda to realise that they hold the true power in society. It is a dark time.

But even in darkness, there is light. Adrianna Nagelburg has realised the TRUTH and set out to bring real change to America!

>This thread is loosely based on Liberal Crime Squad, but you don't need to have played that game to participate and have a good time. The basic idea is that you're setting up a radical political cell with the intention of drastically changing the society of parody America.
>In Thread 1 >>44433227, Trotskyism was chosen (with the other candidates being Elite Liberalism, Arch Conservatism, and Stalinism). Some small gains have been made.

It is now the third week of February 2016.

Taking stock

>Write Propaganda
Adrianna puts her weeknights to good use writing articles on the crisis in the Middle East, explaining the role played by the Imperialist powers and the tasks of workers in the Imperialist countries. She invites Jesse over to help work on these articles, keeping up his political education while doing practical work. The articles go up on the party website as they're completed, but some paper copies are made to distribute.

Later in the week, Serxio Acosta runs into Adrianna after work. He says that he heard about what happened at Amaya's party and is glad that someone looked after the girl. Serxio then offers to drive Adrianna home.

That's very nice of him, isn't it?

>Accept Serxio's offer

It's been a long day and who wants to take public transport? Serxio drives a little hatchback, somewhat old but tidy and well-maintained. The conversation starts with a little query into politics - has Serxio been reading the party website? - but he's not really in the mood for that.

Instead, Serxio starts venting some very mixed feelings about Adrianna's kindness towards Amaya. He wants to acknowledge it as just a good deed but can't shake the suspicion that "people like you" are always coming into working people's lives, dishing out a bit of kindness, then dragging them into some struggle. But then it's "people like you" who get all the benefit while "people like me" end up getting screwed.

He might have a point. How does Adrianna respond?
>Cool it off - he's driving after all - and explain that she didn't ask Amaya to join the party or anything. Not everything she does it political.
>Tell him that she understands his politics and is prepared to let him have them, so why can't he give her the same kind of respect? It's not like he's particularly close to Amaya, is it?

>Cool it off - he's driving after all - and explain that she didn't ask Amaya to join the party or anything. Not everything she does it political.
"All my life, I've only ever wanted what is best for others. Sure, I have my politics and I don't need to assure you, I am passionate about them! But what I did has nothing to do with that. I have a personal life as well and unless I want to be surrounded by only fanatics, or else push everyone away from me, I need to keep them separate. Helping Amaya was personal, not political. If she joins the struggle, or even the party or the revolution, that is her own choice and it's not something I'm going to try and trap her into. That's not how I do things, personally OR politically. What is the point of trying to fight for the common man and woman, if I use the same chains to bind them, that the capitalists and imperialists use?"

Adrianna tries to play things down, saying that she has non-political friendships. It doesn't go down that well. Serxio shakes his head and says that's just like a politician - dodge the real questions and hope that people don't think that hard.

If he wants a 'real' answer, give it to him.
Describe to him that calling himself 'people like me' and us 'people like you' is a distraction from the fact that both parties are flesh and blood people. Your purpose in forming this party is to make sure that people like serxio don't get screwed over by people who only see workers as pawns. Calling us 'politician' accomplishes the exact same thing as calling the backbone of any society 'workers'. He does work, and we do politicize, but forcing people under these as our identities is what causes people to get screwed over. Tell him that it's fine and well if he doesn't agree with our ideology, but if he refuses to treat us as a human, we will have no more to do with him. Tell him to pull over if he continues to freak out.

Serxio grins. "Good thing I'm giving you a lift, you might have gotten in a fight otherwise."

They share a chuckle and then Adrianna turns the discussion to the manifesto. He read it? Seriously? But he's always so hostile to her politics!

"Yeah, I read it a couple of times. There's some good points and some things I'm not so sure about. But when I talk to you... it's like, you always want to duck away from any challenges and end up sounding like someone from the Official Liberal Party."

OK then. Adrianna is pretty tired and has writing to do, so she thanks Serxio for the lift and the insight and suggests meeting up to talk about the manifesto sometime. He says, "OK, give me a call when you can fit me in."

The rest of the week: A thankyou card from Amaya arrives in the mail. Another article goes up on the website. The party e-mail address gets hatemail from a supporter of the Official Liberal Party.

The conceit of Liberal Crime Squad is that there's literally nobody but the founder and whoever they recruit who is willing and able to carry the fight against the Conservative Nightmare.

However, it would be a bit of a dick move for me to force you to be a purely national Trotskyist, so assume that Adrianna is the sole American representative of a world party. The strongest sections are in (rolls):

>Work on the manifesto

Adrianna rounds out the month by putting more work into her manifesto. Jesse gets called in to help with the document and seems to be getting something out of the experience. At the end of February, they feel that the work is ready to send to international collaborators for feedback.

Zain Wright, the National Organiser of the British party makes time to call Adrianna using an internet voice application. He is fairly positive about the effort being made and encourages Adrianna to keep up her theoretical work. However, he points out several weaknesses in the document. Zain also asks about organisational gains and thinks that Adrianna is on the right track with her recruit and the financial pledge already won, and reminds her that these gains are the result of the political struggle she's been waging.

As March begins, the United States and its allies invade a Middle Eastern country under the aegis of an anti-terrorist effort. The governments of Russia and China condemn the invasion and pledge support to the attacked nation. The doomsday clock moves one minute closer to midnight.

Adrianna has to work on Monday but is sure to ask Serxio and Jesse to visit her that evening to discuss the invasion. Serxio agrees without hesitation, Jesse says he kinda had plans but accepts that it's an important event.

When Adrianna gets home, she finds a short e-mail from Zain Wright. "Call me as soon as you get this." Jesse and Serxio will be over in about half an hour.

"That's fine. We can discuss your statement a bit later, but before you meet your contacts I have to stress one point to you. It's critical that you hold a public meeting - if not this week, then next week. I understand that there might be organisational problems to overcome, but you are the conscious representative of the American working class. You have a responsibility to make a stand against the imperialist designs of the American bourgeoisie."

"The main thing to understand is that you are confronting a major episode. Now is the right time to ask your supporters for additional pledges, get contacts to take on new responsibilities, and, most importantly, deepen your political analysis. It's only by clarifying workers on the essential political questions that you'll be able to make any gains."

OK. Adrianna thanks Zain for his help and says goodnight. That leaves about three minutes to make a cup of coffee before Serxio and Jesse arrive.

Beverage in hand, Adrianna gives the young men the rundown. Serxio takes notes and asks a couple of questions to make sure he understands. Jesse listens intently and nods along, but adds a couple of points about what the representatives of the Official Liberal Party have said so far.

Now it's time to plan the public meeting. There's a few factors to consider:

>Meet on college campus this weekend. Adrianna to write articles, Jesse and Serxio to do street work and door-knocking. Put together a home-made banner. Oh, and make sure our existing contacts know about the meeting, too.

With everything agreed, the meeting is closed. Adrianna e-mails Zain Wright to let him know what they have planned, then 'phones Iris to ask if she can book a room at her college.

Even though it's a little late, Iris seems chirpy on the 'phone. She wants a bit of an explanation about the meeting before agreeing to book the room, but agrees that something like this deserves to be brought to the attention of the campus.

Does Adrianna say anything more to Iris?

>Ask Iris to come over and help with the banner

She agrees but suggests tomorrow - Iris prefers to save her all-nighters for assignments and social occasions, it seems.

Once she's off the 'phone, Adrianna finds an extremely angry e-mail from Zain Wright waiting for her. (When do these British Trotskyists sleep?) He points out that there are comrades in Israel literally risking their lives to hold meetings in opposition to war right now and bluntly tells Adrianna that if she doesn't want to take the matter seriously then she might as well resign from the party. There's nothing wrong with reaching out to students but the main task is to sound the alarm to the American working class. Zain does take half a step back and acknowledge that Adrianna has at least made the right call to devote a fair bit of her time to writing articles, as these will go much further than the spoken word.

He concludes the e-mail by proposing that:
1. A second meeting is scheduled for the following week, held in a working class area. The college meeting can serve as part of the campaign for a larger meeting.
2. That no time be wasted on a handmade banner. The party shouldn't look unprofessional and party members should focus themselves on political tasks.
3. That Adrianna give him daily updates on the campaign.

Alright.

Adrianna leaves writing the e-mail until just before she heads off to work on Tuesday morning. SellMart is pretty busy, but she finds the time to pass Mirabel a statement on the invasion in the Middle East and mentions that a public meeting has been called. By the time Adrianna gets home, she's pretty tired, but there's still an article to write.

And Iris has stopped by with her backpack (presumably full of craft supplies) to help with the banner. Awkward. Adrianna sheepishly explains that they're not going to do any arts and crafts this evening.

"I should hope not! My god, Adrianna, are you from the same century as your politics?" Iris shrugs off her backpack and pulls out a tablet. "I did a bit of browsing online and found a decent place for getting a banner done professionally, but I wasn't sure what you wanted on it. Is this going to be your party banner or are you just using it for this campaign?"

Good question. Which is it?

"OK, cool." After a little bit of design planning on Iris's laptop, a design is sent through. Some small talk reveals that Iris is doing pretty well with her undergraduate work. She's still dating Sean and assures Adrianna that the guy is not that bad most of the time.

Politics come back up, though. Iris wants to know what the party makes of the Chinese and Russian involvement. Aren't they Imperialist powers, too?
>Well, yeah, but they're acting in defence of an exploited nation this time. When it comes to Moscow's aggression in Eastern Europe, the party supports American aid to places like the Ukraine.
>Yes, they are. That's why the party's statements condemn all of the imperialist powers equally.

>Yes, they are. That's why the party's statements condemn all of the imperialist powers equally.

Iris seems to think about that answer for a moment, but she doesn't share her thoughts. Before she leaves, she makes sure to give Adrianna the details for the room booking.

The next few days see Adrianna's free time tied up with conversations with Zain Wright and work on articles. Jesse and Serxio go out and work the neighbourhood around the college, door-knocking and distributing literature. By their own report, their discussions don't go so well. A lot of people are saying that something has to be done about terrorism and even if the US's track record in the region isn't the best, at least the army won't be punishing people under fundamentalist law.

Adrianna has one last day before the meeting and has a fair bit to do on her report. Still, there's some free time. How should she spend it?

Go to the college and try to advertise the talk happening tomorrow. Find out what the students feel about it already so that we can do a better speech.

Prepare for Zain telling us that's a dumb idea and to do more writing. He has more people he can get to do this for him than us.

I can agree with this.

On a side note, we may have to concede some points of our radical ideology. While we will still remain Communist, we may have to shift our focus a little bit more towards social issues so that we gain the potential of recruiting Liberals and perhaps even some far-left leaning Moderates. As it stands now, the only support we will get will be from idealistic College students and the occasional disgruntled union worker. It will draw some backlash from Zain and the other Leninists across the world, but I believe it needs to be done if we are going to gain the traction we need to have an impact on American politics. Of course, its up to other anons if we do so.

>Go work the college

Adrianna grits her teeth and e-mails Zain to let him know she's going to go put feet to pavement with Jesse and Serxio this afternoon. Before she's left, he shoots back a two-word e-mail. "Good idea."

With the campus fairly quiet, the trio set up their stall just at the gates to get a cross-section of the neighbourhood. Adrianna's self-confidence goes a long way in this environment: people stop to talk to her rather than just taking a flyer and walking on, which makes Serxio and Jesse more out-going.

Like the guys said, there's a pervasive mood that "something" must be done about terrorism. Adrianna has been reading statements from the Israeli section this week, and feels confident about taking their line with Americans. She patiently explains the trail of funding from the United States and its allies to the very terrorist organisations that are being denounced as an existential threat. In answer to the question, "What must be done?" Adrianna puts forward that terrorism's only real appeal is the sense among oppressed people that nothing else can be done. She proposes that a movement of the international working class can provide a progressive alternative.

Several passersby leave their contact details.

(Continued)

When she returns home, Adrianna is pleased to find the party banner has arrived in the mail. The design looks good and it feels pretty durable.

And her chat with Zain is much more relaxed than those earlier in the week. When he's not hammering a point home, the old guy's Scottish accent is actually quite soothing. Adrianna feels confident that, no matter what turnout they get tomorrow, the party has done a good job on this campaign.

(I think I'm going to finish up here so that the meeting can get a decent treatment, but I can take any final touches if you've got them.)

Since Serxio has been helping out so much ask him if he would like to become an official party member.

It's true though, anon. Americans are far more concerned with social issues than economic ones.

Beside the point, the setting of this game is Parody America. That's why I refer to the Official Liberal Party rather than the Republicans or whoever.

Good question.

I'm going to say... about 56 hours from now. (Or three days less 8 hours, if that's easier to think about.)

Glad I stopped running the thread, because that formulation didn't make sense.

Next thread should be 64 hours, or 3 days less 8 hours.

Wasn't Liberal Crime Squad pointing out the hypocrisy of those that use terrorism and evil means to achieve "good" ends? E.g. using machine guns to kill people but aiming to have guns totally banned?

It's satirical but not particularly rigorous satire, and not attempting to be. Basically don't read too much into it.
