Thulsa Doom, like Conan's own father, both thought they understood the Riddle. Obviously, Conan's father thought the riddle pertained to just steel, and Thulsa Doom extended to the flesh beyond that, but he was just as wrong as Conan's father.
The true meaning to the riddle is uncovered by Conan himself, after his crucifixion. The true answer is that the power of the mind, one's Will, is the most powerful of all. As Thulsa said, what is steel without the flesh that holds it, what is that flesh without a strong mind to command its intricacies. This is exemplified perfectly in the sword kata scene in the mounds, Conan marveling at the strength of his flesh, contemplating the riddle. He found his own answer, he made his own truth and through that truth he was able to overcome Doom and triumph.
This is highlighted again when Conan destroys his fathers master crafted sword, wielded in the hands of Rexxor, smashed with the superior Atlantean blade.

These days our creativity is a lot more substantial: quests go on for hundreds of threads, custom settings are better fleshed out, it's a lot more interesting. There's less original content, but the OC is a lot more rememberable.

As someone who had a non-insignificant part of shaping the Blood Jaguars, and who was banned for an entire year before that just for disagreeing with Nazimod's heavy-handed policing, I can say that the Blood Jaguars, which were made after he went away, were in no way thanks to him. Fewer ideas take root nowadays, and that those that do are more worked through is because the board culture has changed and developed, not because he banned and baleeted anything that he disliked. /tg/ as a creative environment was newer back then, and had to go through steps along the way to get where it is today. Nazimod did not help that, he stunted our growth. The only real issue back then was spam, and Captcha solved that issue, Nazimod didn't. Creativity necessarily involves play. To play you need room for flights of fancy, you need to be in good spirits among people who don't berate or punish you all the time for badwrongfun. This is an argument supported by virtually all research about creativity ever conducted, this is not just my opinion. I understand why he did what he did. Sometimes I see a bunch of shit I dislike, or am in a bad mood and just want to "fix the board" or whatever. But that's not the right approach for a board like /tg/, where creativity is such a fundamental part. /tg/ is not /a/, or /v/, or /lit/, or any board where they discuss a finished product. It's like discussing rules: interpreting what you have. That's an important part of /tg/, no doubt, and Nazimod didn't kill that part. But the other half of /tg/ is to rework what you have, to create something new. That creative environment can't be unyieldingly moderated, and that's what Nazimod did, and that's how he damaged it. Imagine if Hell, if I want rule discussion then any RPG forum can provide that. What /tg/ offers and that no other creative /tg/-related forum I know of offers is a place to play without having to care about reputation and cliques and whatnot.
