I also see my group opening this set a lot, so it would be nice to stand a realistic chance of walking away from one of those events with a Legacy staple.

They're "avoiding" it because people have only started recently to complain about an UR artifact legend. Remember that Wizards works ahead quite some time. Also, there was no real artifact subtheme in any of the sets.

Unlike Pod and creatures though, there is unlikely ever to be an equipment that is better with SFM than Swords of X and Y, Jitte, or Batterskull. That design space was already dead.
Also, SFM isn't quite as veratile as Goyf and Snappy, and white is underrepresented in Modern outside of Path and SB cards. Misty would help bring white up to the power of the other colors.
