Last time I played 40K, people were still using Army Builder. Is that a thing that still happens or is there a good alternative these days?

I think he meant to ask if he should be using legion rules to run his red scorpions. If I'm thinking correctly, then its up to you, bud. The legions rules have bigger squads and better equipment, but 40k space marine formations are amazing. If you do go with a legion, run them as Emperor's Children.
>>
>>44421047
Yeah that's what I mean. Everybody at my store is telling me that running mass tac squads is retarded even if they're Red Scorpions. I'm just wondering if I should just say fuck it and make a 30k legion to play against the other guys at the store. Only problem is...we rarely go above over 2k games, and I'd never get to facefuck anybody with a primarch. speaking of primarchs I don't think I could ever even paint one without it looking like an abortion...so that's my dilemma.

By what? I know this isn't sixth edition but most of the AA meta is S7/8 with the S8 being one shot weapons. You need 4s to even glance a SRG. Most fighters are going to balk at the thing if they aren't already raped by the melta and missiles it's packing.

>>

>What else are you gonna bring.
Exactly. All options suck, so I guess it doesn't matter what you bring if it's all crap.

As for the Storm raven, forcing it to jink severely hinders its shooting, even with a machine spirit. At 1850 points, that combo is over almost a third of your army. Also remember that if you want to disembark, you can't move more that 6". A smart opponent can easily outmaneuver the disembark range.

There are also many things that can damage it reliably. Tau:everything, necrons too to an extent. There's also grav or any imperial army with divination librarian support, vindicare assassin on a quad gun, the 2 flyrants + possible hive crone that every nid player runs, mortis dreads or mortis contemptors. Even a sicaran's accelerator gun does a decent job at injuring one with 6 shots rending, TL, and ignoring jink. I also see random auspexes as random filler upgrades, so that's more reduction to the cover save. There's also the mysterious objective that gives skyfire too.

It's not THAT terrible, but it's super IMBA cheese either.
>>
>>44421193

But Ghazzy isn't on Armageddon anymore. He's off on Octavius getting the Orks that are fighting Leviathan to join his galaxy-wide WAAAAAGH!

Same dude again. Don't worry about painting. Most people want you to play with at least a tabletop standard paint job. Make sure you shave mold lines off of your model, rinse it, then start painting. Go out and buy a colored spray primer- one color that will cover the most surface of your model. Get a wash for that color, the premade citadel ones from GW are pretty good. Washes are basically liquid talent. do soe thin layers of paint to clean up your paint job, and you are set. Most tournaments and players consider a tabletop standard paint job to be about three colors- so prime, wash, and a layer paint to clean up your wash should be enough. If you want to do more than that, go nuts. You can always check the WIP threads here on /tg/ for help, and youtube has a ton of tutorials. Here is one of mine. For Sanguinius and the Emperor brother.
>>
>>44421082
I would wait. The next HH book has Legion Rules, Unique Units and Unique Wargear for a couple more legions (they've been dragged out of chronological due to demand, in short, cash).

I believe they're Space Wolves, Blood Angels and Dark Angels.

But we won't see the Primarch Stats or their "hero" characters. So we won't see unique dudes who fought in battles until their specific book. We won't see Raldoron who was one of the best fighters in all the legions (thought not as good as Sigisund who never ever lost, he did draw with a Night Lord dude who cheated)

I have a Tournament game (not very competitive, but still) against Daemons.
I play Slaaneshi CSM + Slaaneshi Daemons as allies.

What to bring?

He uses the Screamers of Tzeentch combo (the 2++ reroll 1 thingy), Plague Drones of Nurgle and Kairos as an HQ for some nice Summoning shenanigans.

Also, i don't use Daemon Prince and Helldrakes because i hate the models and the gameplay but i have 2 Sonic Dreads and an Hellblade if needed.
>>
>>44421590

Why aren't you fuckers playing ITC?
>>
>>44421498
Well I did say "likely." It's hinted that the Swarmlord is as old as the Tyranid race itself, which makes sense since he fights as hard as Ghazgull, as skilled as Dante and the tactical genius of Creed. He is by far the most developed organism the Tyranids have to offer. When shit goes really bad for the Tyranids, the Swarmlord is created. If he is slain the Hive Mind retrieves his sentience so he can be spawned again, even at another Hive Fleet. He also doesn't need the Hive Mind to babysit him. So almost certainly around as old as the Nids themselves.

The other half is do you believe the 2spooky4me talk of the Nids being older than the Galaxy itself. Being eons old and noming things since the beginning of time.
>>
>>44421462
is it really that ill-advised? Are 30k armies THAT outmatched by 40k formations?
>>
>>44421600
Dis grot finks he can out krump DA ORKZ!

I love the Swarmlord, he's one of my favourite "heroes". Shame he's too expensive in my eyes for what he can do. I need to look at his stats again, can you remember them?

>>44421612
They can be if you want. The thing is, 30k marines don't have ATSKNF, meaning they can be wiped off the board easily. Yeah, they're cheaper (10 ppm if I remember). It's just a lot easier to take them down. Plus people will go "hur dur not fluffy". I seem to remember FW said they might do Orks and Eldar 30k stats, but maybe I misremembered. Either way, 30k vs 40k wasn't designed specifically, but it can work. It's just armies like Tau will be unfluffy against you and will probably destroy you.

So, just ask your friends and have a go. There are cool units like Sicarian (spelling) and Fellglaives, which can be used in 40k, but obviously they're more likely to be in 30k. Leviathan Dreads have a no debuff skill in 30k either. So, it's worth asking around.
>>
>>44421012

**Blade Parry:** 4+ invulnerable save in close combat.

**Psyker:**

**Shadow in the Warp:** All enemy units and models with the Psyker, Psychic Pilot or Brotherhood of Psykers
special rules suffer a -3 penalty to their Leadership whilst they are within 12" of one or
more models with the Shadow in the Warp special rule.

**Swarm Leader:** At the beginning of your turn, choose either the Swarmlord’s unit, or
one friendly unit from Codex: Tyranids within 18" of the Swarmlord. Then, choose one of
the following special rules: Furious Charge, Monster Hunter, or Preferred Enemy. The
chosen unit has that special rule until the end of the turn.

before the unit moves, the unit automatically Regroups.

**Warlord Trait: Synaptic Lynchpin:** The Warlord’s synapse range is 18".

WS9 T6 W6? I6 A4(5/6 on the charge)

ML3

2 pairs of Bone sabres with Instant Death.

4++ in combat.

Favored powers are Proxysm which can lower WS on a unit by D3 and Catalyst which gives FNP.

No eternal warrior.

In terms of "Who Would Win" he smashes characters like the Avatar of Kaine and Mephiston no problem. Anything without eternal warrior is fucked. Abbadon, Dante and anything with a force weapon will fuck him up though.

He needs to be accompanied by 3 Tyrant Guard with crushing claws. This is about a 500 point unit. In casual games against BA, Chaos, Orks and non min maxed Guard it's a fun and rapey take.
>>
>>44421687
Hah. No wonder Mephiston died when he 1v1'd Swarmlord in that White Dwarf Battle Report. The guy might have had S10 +D3 A+I and Force Weapon Activated, but without an ++ he wasn't going to survive. Especially with -3Ld.

Also, does Swarm Leader affect Swarmlord as well or just his unit?
>>
>>44421404
The vindicare only gains ignore cover when rolling to shoot, since you don't "roll to shoot" with blast weapons they won't gain the ignore cover buff.

Also it would be cheaper if you just take a wolf guard battle hero with the iron helm relic on a aquila stronghold for ignores cover D gun.
>>
>>44421639

Do you think SOB would go ok vs 30k armies?

I'm wondering a bit about respective power levels as a lot of my friends are picking up 30k armies and unless they do an Age of Apostasy Era expansion I've just got SOB.

Sisters are more expensive than 30k marines (By 1 point) but do have the 6+ Inv and Adamantium Will built in.
>>
>>44421767
probably be a bad time, just like in regular 40k

>>
>>44421760
You can argue that rolling the scatter is rolling to hit for the blast weapon because you are rolling to see if the weapon hits, but i won't get into that. With the vindicare, you don't have to pay for a troops tax

Right.

That's a bit annoying. I might see if they'll let me use my SOB models with...I dunno, Salamanders? Rules.

Salamanders would work best for SOB in 30k(Rules, not fluff obviously. They don't exist yet), right? I don't think the Mechanicus or Guard have regular access to power armour infantry.

I must admit, the idea of chewing through non-ATSKNF marines with Ecclessiarchal Warbands and Penitent Engines does amuse me.
>>
>>44421715
Yeah. Mephy does have a Force Weapon though, he just doesn't have the ++ to take hits, the WS, or the Initiative (unless he got +3 from The Quickening) to kill him before he hits back.

What's his point cost? Why does he need to be accompanied by the guard? For the unit buff? Does it apply to him as well? Also, what's his points? Cause, I think he should get Eternal Warrior.

>>44421767
Honestly? I think they could do it. However, you'd need to do some tweaking. I don't think SoB really existed at the time. Some think Sisters of Silence turned into them, but I don't think so, I assume they're guarding Black Ships and are near the gate in case Chaos breaks through on Terra. Maybe even fighting to clear the Webway with Custodes.

But it could work, if people go "hur dur not fluffy" just say it's a rich personal guard or something. x3 Exorcists would also be great, since it's the best unit in the dex. Sisters just need so many more things to make them playable. But, if you have an army already, I think it'd be a fair match up.

>>44421787
Really? Guy above said take 3 guards with him, so when he gives it to that unit, it only affects them? Not bad, but not great.

Yeah, fluff wasn't really the concern.

My friends are going for it because they heard it's better balanced than normal 40k rather than because they really like the Era.

That and we all play plenty of Battletech. Pime Taradox games are nothing really surprising with us (Especially with the WoB player)

And yeah, a lot of this is 'I have many many SOB already. I'd really rather not just put the models I do have on shelf until 40k gets played'

On the SoS side I'd say that they SoS didn't turn into them because A) They were a minor warrior cult on a world before Vandire found them B) They are not psykers but they are still pretty close to the opposite of the Blanks that the SoS were due to faith being tied to the warp, if not psyker powers.

>>44421886

I like the Swarmlord. Unlike Tau MCs he's not a walking pile of Inv and Cover saves so the Exorcists get to come out and play. On the other hand he'll take out SOB and penitent engines like it's a clearance sale. Chewing through Tyrant Guard wounds to get to him is a lot of HP though.
>>
>>44421612

30k works perfectly fine against 40k, you're just not "supposed" to do it unless you're dicking around. It's not ill advised but it's also not advocated.
>>
>>44421767

Wait for 30k SoS rules
>>
>>44421886
Wow. 285. Yeah he needs Eternal Warrior then. I think that would be fair. And don't you mean 4++ in melee? Or does he have something else?

>>44421928
SoS were pretty instrumental at Prospero and they did stop the Daemons flooding the Imperial Palace. One SoS solo'd a Bloodthirster, but died after it. I think they're on the Black Ships, but they're not mentioned in 40k fluff. Only 30k. They are getting rules and models though. FW confirmed this a year or so ago. Which will be awesome. Plus Custodes. My Golden Dildo Men will be mine!

It's a shame SoB are essentially support for Imperial Guard now. Even if IG are ally army. Exorcist are still great. Shame about Warband nerf.

Maybe if we email GW and be really nice to them (couple of threads ago, somebody sent an email to GW saying they were pleased in the direction they were going in and they were surprised by this) an email going "good job...SoB update please?" it'll seep through.

>>44421962
SoS are really different to SoB though. They're Nulls and they're more elite than SoB. But it could work. I still think SoB 40k rules are fine for friendly games, not like they'd win regular 40k matches, even against Orks, CSM or Nids. It'd all come down to good dice rolls on Exorcists.
>>
>>44422062

Oh yeah. Not saying that SoS are bad.

Just that I think people read too much into two groups just because they are both female and have 'Sisters' in the name.

Seeing them and the Custodes rules come out will be fun.

Wonder, if SOB ever get updated, they'll give them a tank pilot special character like guard/marines/tau. I could see a lot of room for an Exorcist special character that just goes 'Congrats, you get a flat 6 every turn rather than rolling'

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone. Until SoS rules come out (And depending on how they work, maybe even afterwards) I'll stick with SoB rules. Not like we play super competitive anyway.
>>
>>44422106
SoB need a medium tank (like Pred/Russ) and a Heavy Tank (Land Raider/Baneblade etc). They also need their old Acts of Faith back. They need a well armoured assault unit. They need their own gimmick. They also need their own flyers (though I seriously doubt this even if they did get updated). They also need a heavy troop transport.

I dunno... don't think it's ever going to happen. I had hoped, when I read in Mont'ka (or Kauyon, I forget) that several Orders of SoB were on their way to fight the Tau that they'd get something. Yet in the 2nd book, they weren't even mentioned, but, the glimmer of hope is, neither were the Titans. This, however, could be crushed by the fact the Titans were likely involved in Imperial Armour 14's battle (which still isn't out). As for where SoB are and what are they doing. I hope and pray for a campaign book giving them some formations (they had same force layouts like Blood Angels did in Shield of Baal but didn't get anything) and maybe some Relics, followed by a massive Dark Eldar style update.

I think it'd be cool if it was SoB + Catachan, so the Catachan's get their own Relics like the Cadians did and their own formations. Maybe Marbo reappears in the book.
>>
>>44422249

SOB + Catachan's would be pretty cool.

Though I'd personally like to see SOB + Tallarn Desert Raiders.

And yeah, SOB need quite a few slots filled (Most pressingly, something Anti-Air. An alternate fire mode for Exorcists or 1-shot anti-air pods to add to transports at the very least). I'd disagree about the faith powers though. They need something less fiddly and resource managmenty. No faith system so far has been fantastic (Though the old one was better for giving them something unique at least)

Still, this isn't a thread for wish listing and I've already taken up a lot of space asking about SOB in 30k.

Nothing wrong with talking about them. This is what the thread is for. SoB AoF were a lot better before the nerf. Retributors with HB's could take out flyers with 12 Rending shots. They could drive around in Repressor and shoot from it's 4 ports (this was before Snap Shots). It's a shame that's all gone. Plus Saint Trollstine is now nothing great. Their Relics are poo (even worse than BA's iirc). They lost a special character (not including Karazmov who left to join Inquisition, he was an awesome model).

I dunno, maybe they can't be made unique enough to sell. Maybe they're not important enough to be properly updated. How long has it been? 12 years? 15? Since new models.

>>44422451

Karazmov was fun but he always was more Inquisition than SOB (And honestly, good riddance to the guy on a fluff level)

I think the issue with SOB is that it would be a serious investment and a bit of a risk to take to update them. You'd need to invent at least 2-3 new units out of whole cloth as WELL as transferring the existing units to plastic.

With profits on the downward turn, GW is playing it safe with Marines and bit Showcase Models rather than taking a risk that could fail to pay off. It's honestly a surprise that Dark Eldar got updated at all and likely serious backstage politics to even get that far.

I think the SOB do have the fluff location to work with to be unique. However it would take some creativity to help their rules location. The Exorcist and Repressor are stylish and some of the best remembered SOB models because they really work. They are something that other imperial armies don't have (A direct fire missile tank that looks like a giant church organ and a super tough general purpose transport.).

The Seraphim still hold out because 'Shooting Jump Pack Troops' is dramatically different to how Marines use Jump Pack troops.

But Basic SOB? Retributors? They don't quite. They are Tacticals Lite and Devestators Lite.

A SOB redo would need a lot of work to look at those areas where marines DON'T cover rather than going 'SOB are marines lite' if you want them to have a unique mechanical feel, not just fluff one.

Yeah. That's the problem. I just think Forge World could have fun making Cathedral Super Heavies and shit. I mean, a full update isn't even needed, give us plastic basic Sisters and that'll do. They MUST have seen Raging Heroes make half a million pounds for their last Kickstarter which had Not!Sisters in there. Surely that shows there is want. Raging Heroes aren't even good quality models, they're better than Mantic but they're not GW quality (which themselves aren't perfect but better than most for price). I dunno, as you, Dark Eldar got a massive update a couple of editions back AND they got several more models last update as well.

I think the profit problem was due to massive investment into WHFB which didn't pay off. Hopefully AoS will increase their profits and they can take risks.

I mean they brought Knight Titans in, which people liked. They brought in AdMech and Skiitari which people loved. They made cool AoS/WHFB models in Nagash and Glotkin and stuff. SoB are the only poor quality army left. The thing is, I wish GW would just come out and go "Yeah, we're never going to update them due to no profits in them". I mean, what would happen if GW did a Kickstarter for SoB? "donate £5m and we'll make them!" Or whatever.
>>
>>44422692

I don't think GW are really a modern enough company to do that though. It's why the other games companies keep stealing an advance on them.

That and it's harder for a company that big to go to kickstarter and look remotely reasonable.

Still, would be interesting to see the results of such a thing if it did happen.

>email GW
>tell them we want SoB
>understand the risk
>tell them you can try a Kickstarter
>tell them it's working for other companies
>you got nothing to lose

They have nothing to lose if they don't succed in funding. If it doesn't get funded, then it's a sign not enough interest exists. If it does, they have the money to cover it.

The main problem is, obviously, the fact GW would hate the idea of Backer Rewards on principle. "What? They donated £1000? Why should they get anything above the guy who donated £5? Fuck em!".

It would be very interesting to see, but it just won't happen.

I'm sure you've seen them, but here are Raging Heroes Not!Sisters. Obviously it's not the big units (which are essentially Karazmovs Judgement Throne strapped with naked ladies bound with barbed wire) and the Heroes (one of them looks great, Aryaaa or something).

These look good, the problem is hoping the sketches turn into models and aren't twisted, which unfortunately some of the 'basic' ones have.

Girl from last thread. I got another question.

The Orks in Warhammer all reproduce via spores, right?

So does that mean they have no genders?

Furthermore, it means that they also have no penises, right?

So that pretty much means that Orks are the only culture in the universe that aren't a "rape culture" because Orks can't rape.
>>
>>44422810
>won't do it cause some faggot tells them too

really? wow, what an insightful fucking comment. only you, in your infinite wisdom, have the knowledge to know that, protip, when people use humour chevrons, it's usually telling a story, real or not. the guy then specifically went on to say "it won't happen", did you read that bit?

as for brand image? what? how is doing a kickstarter going to affect their brand image?

>hey SoB are a risky army, but if you can prove to us with your donations/support that they're worth investing in, we'll do it

how is that bad? if he doesn't fund, it doesn't fund and it's "sorry, not enough interest", if it does fund, then they have something to show investors. if this somehow affects their brand image, then dozens of game companies are FUCKED due to using Kickstarter or whatever.

>Yeah. That's the problem. I just think Forge World could have fun making Cathedral Super Heavies and shit.

Frankly I would have expected Forge World to do this already had they not cracked open the endless money pinata that is 30K. But regardless of that, FW is still the best bet for Sisters. FW is where GW does the risky stuff now, and if it proves popular, they import it to 40K. Given how shy GW has been about new investments for a long time now, it's very doubtful that we would ever have seen Skitarii and Adeptus Mechanicus without FW first demonstrating how popular those armies were.

It's just a pity that 95% of Forge World's budget right now seems to be devoted to 30K, and in the scraps that remain it just hasn't been the Sister's turn yet. To be fair, Orks, Tyranids, IG and Necrons are in the same boat right now too; FW has completely neglected us for years too.

Here's one scrap of hope though: the new director of GW has said that he wants to exploit all of the IP, so it's very doubtful Sisters will be canned. Specialist Games is making a comeback, so the future probably does hold some light for Sisters, providing GW doesn't go into terminal decline, and they haven't done so yet.
>>
>>44422838

>how is that bad? if he doesn't fund, it doesn't fund and it's "sorry, not enough interest", if it does fund, then they have something to show investors

Here's what investors will hear when they see a company like GW doing a Kickstarter:

>"We didn't have enough capital to fund the development of this project, so we went begging to our customer base"

>if this somehow affects their brand image, then dozens of game companies are FUCKED due to using Kickstarter or whatever.

Publically listed major companies don't, as a rule, utilize Kickstarter. Smaller companies, especially ones that occupy very specific niches, can make use of crowdfunding, because they're expected to. GW still sells itself as the biggest name in miniatures (which frankly it still is) and big companies don't go begging on the internet.

But its not like SoB need a dark eldar makeover, where nothing was left and everything had to be designed from scratch.

All you need is one cannones, a squad of sororitas and a remade immolator/rhino kit, now the old is gone. And most of the rhino kit already exists. The special and heavy weapons are mostly just minor remodeling of the base sister.

All the weapon designs are there (SM/IG have the same, just put some religious stuff on it) and the special rest(seraphim etc.) can be left as it is for now to keep the investment down, if it tanks, well its just 1.5 kits and a clampack.

Harlequin, Admech and Skiitari have shown, that GW does not mind to not have a full fledged army.

thing is, there is a vidya called kingdom come: deliverance, they went to a publisher, publisher went "we won't fund this unless it's multiplayer and works on tablets", so they walked away. some friend who had a load of money said to lead dev "you get $50k from the public to show there is insert and i'll fund the rest", the dev ended up getting like $4m or something.

my point being, it's a thing to show investors "this product has a market, if we fund this and support this, we'll make more money". people basically use kickstarter as a marketing tool which makes EXTRA money.

GW goes "SoB, give us £500k and we'll do 3 new kits" and people will go "yay they're updating them" and either fork up the cash, showing it's got potential, or they won't, if they won't, GW can finally once and for all go "there is no demand for SoB" and they can stop the fucking teasing.

it's actually the opposite, the genestealer hybrids start out almost entirely alien, the first few generations have to infect others like the purestrains. while the third generation starts to look very human, but with stuff like 3 arms or other little things. 4th generation is indistinguishable from humans, with the exception that they have no hair.

2 per section is about right. Some sections will have more than one larger piece and others with have smaller pieces, but over all terrain makes for a better game.

Am I one of the few remiaing players who actually use paper/pencil to write their list down? Since I do this every time I play, and then go against someone who uses a program to do it, I find it a tad infuriating. Its a nescience that I have to hold your phone in order to see what you're playing.

>>44424207

I use both. I usually go back and forth between books and battlescribe and write down my final version on paper. I don't think my opponent should read my list from my phone.

>>44424136
My guess would be any Area of Effect weapons.
They're all melee, so you have to group em up and wipe em out.

One melee tank to meet the charge, and two heavy ranged to pick them off one by one.

But I've never played the game, just taken a quick look, do it could be you're fucked. Level up moar if you're at a brick wall.

I always prefer writing it down honestly but battlescribe noting down rules is nice so you don't have to sift through the rulebooks and codexes so often.

So infinite meat for the nids, who might even end up developing whole new regeneration processes after eating tons and tons of their meat.

Basically the worst possibly fate for a perpetual I guess.
>>
>>44424496
It's warp fuckery. It's not a biological process, it's just that their souls are so powerful they auto-conjure a new body for them each time they die. Harvesting them would be just like trying to harvest a daemon.
>>
>>44424496

>An all-perpetual hive fleet

>>
>>44424560
So is being left handed, doesn't mean your son will become a brilliant violinist, he might just end up jerking off differently.
>>
>>44424560
Perpetuals aren't psyker. They don't have psychic powers. Their soul is just made of bullshitium which is a pure warp related condition.
>>
>>44424541
if it's warp powered they'd stop being perpetuals because shadow in the warp.

Just like daemons fall apart in the presence of a tyranid invasion.
>>
>>44424593
The Emperor and Alivia are powerful psykers
>>
>>44424414
I just had a browse through it, it's pretty meh I think, though I guess it's nice if there's people with CSM armies they don't field because of the meta's strength. It's just still so barebones though.

Question actually, does it even take points into account? Nothing is mentioned, you just get stuff on the tables and then give them wargear. It might all be balanced because of the pre-chosen numbers of units.
>>
Aren't perpetuals the result of Dark Age of Technology shenanigans or extinct Alien technologies?
>>
>>44424622
Yeah but that's unrelated to their perpetual condition. We have many perpetuals that have absolutely no psychic powers.
>>
>>44424642
Not all
Basically if a soul gets summoned back by whatever means they can become a perpetual - John grammaticus was made one by the Cabal, Damon probably as well, Cyrene by the word bearers, lucius and eidolon by chaos, meanwhile oll was born one and the emperor and alibis also

Is it possibly to conceive of a scenario where a Hive tyrant would ally with another faction?

Or even more unbelievably: Be the hero?

Obviously it would need to be cut off from the hive mind, so that it only has it's own autonomy to rely on.

it's like you don't even want to conceive of a scenario where the Hive tyrant realizes that it needs the civilian population alive.

I bet you don't even want to see a Flyrant piggybacking toddlers around.
>>
>>44424747
Make it prioritize eating a bigger nastier threat that just so happens is hell-bent on eating a few little girls?
>>
>>44424747

"Cut off from the hive mind"

Christ no, that's dumb. The prescence of the hive mind is the prescence of synapse creatures.

Alliances aren't the right way to think about running "Allied" nids. Instead, you want either a faction that could loose captive nids under extremely loose control, or who are dropping in on a nid-invaded world to achieve an objective and get out.

As for "The hero", just write a story from the Hive Mind's perspective. It'll be extremely hard to get right, but I'd be impressed if I could pull it off.
>>
Now real anti-fun with Nids would be that time I threw the suggestion of a converted, chaos corrupted "Khornifex" around, and got walls of nitpicking about it being wrong for various reasons.
>>
>>44424844
>being this unwilling to accept the lore
You can finagle a happenstance of heroism, but your (assuming that anon) premise is just wrong.
>>
>>44424844
>>44424846
Oh oh, or Tzeentch, wanting a few giggles, curses a small group of nids with a conscience. They realize "Y'know, we kindof ate countless other galaxies and don't really NEED to eat any more... so why not just stop doing that shit for a while? This "book" shit is fascinating".

That or maybe a genestealer cult is cursed by Tzeentch might be more believable due to their human-nid breeding. Not far fetched some might end up not-cunts.
>>
>>44424862
Now cool models I can get behind, some shitty fanfic about a khornifex however, not so much.
>>
>>44424844
youre describing a situation where a hive fleet is descending on a planet to amalgamate its biomatter into the fleet, only to discover there's an external threat that would destroy all the biomatter on the planet, ie another faction intends to destroy the planet? This is all I can think of.

Vanguard =/= Synapse.
>>
>>44424881

Lost like old one eye, vulnerable to Daemonic corruption after months, even years out of synapse range operating on instinct and rage.
>>
>>44424895
The Chaos God of trickery, bullshit and trolling doing that is against the setting? Does a single Genestealer cult project enough of a Shadow in the Warp to make them immune to a little cajoling?

>>44424896
It can happen, as long as not being a cunt is part of the plan!
>>
>>44424910
It's good enough for an excuse to make a conversion, but that's about it as that's the very surface impression of Khorne.
>>
>>44424910
tyranids can't be messed with by chaos, since they are akin to rocks or soil. There's a reason their alien ichor does nothing to feed daemons, they have no emotion, they're more akin to biological robots.
>>
>>44424921
>The mega has both relevant codecies in it, read 'em both and realize they are primarily incompatible.
>>
>>44424949
What about genestealer cults then? They're not fully nid. What if a cursed chaoshuman was infected and the biological rewriting of the genetealers was tampered with due to the chaos influence?
>>
>>44424947

It'd likely be more a daemonhost than an actual worshipper, I'd grant you.

The only non-synapse Nids smart enough to actually get straight up corrupted are Genestealers, Lictors... Maybe one of those gun symbiotes which are massively smarter than their host.

More the act of shedding it than the actual loss of blood.

Odds are an actual Bloodletter would only get satisfaction from killing a synapse creature concious enough to be aware of it's own mortality.

In the old fluff, Genestealer cults used chaos as a tool to their end, but they always remained loyal to their instincts: Prepare for the hive fleets arrival.

But the original question was for a Hive Tyrant.

Corruption is possible though nearly always Nurgle as he uses his plagues as a biological trojan horse to get at them.
>>
>>44425004
Ok, doesn't have to be a GOOD gUY, afterall you can do good things for the wrong reasons or do bad things for the right reasons. We're not talking making a Chaos Genestealer Paladin here, just one that might not be a complete impulse-driven fruitcake. An anti-hero at best.
>>
>>44424990
A vehicle made by daemons in a giant forge fueled by souls?
>>
>>44424968

A genestealer chaos cult would likely end up with weird religious beliefs conflating the inevitable approach of the Hive Mind with their patron deity.

Poor kids don't realise their corrupted psychic signiature is telling the Hive Mind to stay clear of the tainted meat.

Genestealers are already biological perfection, Slaanesh would love them.

I've seen more than one Chaos Zoanthrope which didn't seem too fanficy. The trick is isolating and interrupting their connection to the hive mind so that the powerful psyker spazzes and perils out to end up posessed.

Slaanesh is not sex or fertility, slaanesh is excess of all sorts.

In the Knight Companion lore book, a rogue admech controls a Tyranid swarm using their bio-sealed Hive Tyrant.

In an audiobook, an admech fuses himself with a dying hive tyrant. He starts to talk for the swarm and even controls the Tyranids.

Considering all of this, I guess Dark Eldar and Necrons can use their technologies (mind Shackles, for example) to enslave the synaptic creatures and have their own Tyranid "allies".
>>
>>44425136

And vore. I can see Slaaneshstealers being into vore.

Excess.

Eating till you vomit, fucking till you bleed, fighting till your bones break.
