Can we talk about Legends of the Wulin? I'm getting ready to run it again and skimming the rules over, and find myself wondering if there ever was much community content made for it here or anywhere about. Home made kung fu styles, loresheets, that sort of thing.

Also does anyone in here play it/have played it? How did you enjoy it? I love the game to death but my last attempt at GMing was ended after a few months due to school work load, so I'm pretty excited to be trying it again

>LotW thread almost dies before I even notice it
Good to see some things never change.

To answer your question:

There's a lot of stuff, but it's of varying quality. Combination elemental styles are interesting but corrupt|enlightened double styles give you an idea how deep the hole goes.

Can't answer the second question, since my group prefers things on the lighter side, so LotW is right out, sadly.

To add another question to the mix: does anyone know how to do LotW's dice system on Anydice?
>>

>but corrupt|enlightened double styles give you an idea how deep the hole goes.

My god, its like I'm really on the Exalted forum
>>
>>44415238
The best part is that they're almost literally unusable. The corrupt chi requires you to act corrupt, but you can't use your enlightened chi unless you act enlightened. Also, since enlightened is almost strictly better, there's no reason to even bother with the corrupt chi.

I guess you could use the physical changes for corrupt cultivation, and then do a noble beast sort of thing, but it seems like it would be better served by using multiple styles.
>>
>>44415311
It also sounds like they missed the whole point of how the two chis are different when making it combined. You could be someone who has corrupt chi and decides to turn your life around and seek enlightenment, or be a fallen hero, but both being raised at once is some new kind of insane.

>does anyone know how to do LotW's dice system on Anydice?
LoTW is one of the many systems that would benefit from it's own, D&D4e style, character builder.
>>
>>44413794
I have played it and I loved it. My question: has anyone played the game LotW was based on? Weapons of the Gods?
>>
>>44415973
I haven't. I can't think of anyone I know who has either. I didn't find out about it until LotW happened.
>>
Are there any hotfixes for making non-elemental internal styles more to-par without just making them elemental styles?
>>
>>44417502
Not that I know of, but haven't in my game seen the elemental dude really overshadow the others. Everyone built pretty smart and makes good use of their heads in combat and chi conditions, and it all feels fairly fine to me. The power level difference probably still exists but I just don't notice it.

You have any suggestions for the good material (or authors) to keep an eye on? Internal and external styles are my desire. Secret Arts and Loresheets you kind of need to feel out as players need, and I run in a very non-standard setting anyway so I'll be kicking my own ass to make good new lores on top of the old ones.

One suggestion is just letting people with only Normal Chi respire an extra point or two each round, but it's a little janky in practice.

I'm working on a few other options, but it's sorta flowed into a full rewrite of LotW, albeit more focused on clarity of writing and unfucking the editing than changing much.
>>
>>44419612

Anything made or commented on by Zechstyr is usually good. Watch out for Ray of Speed, his stuff is usually OP as shit. Robert Harrison has some cool ideas, but some of the styles he's made are also pretty fucked.
>>
>>44417502
>>44422437

My preferred one is to have Elemental Chi replace one of your chi when respiring rather than being in addition.

So you have Fire chi and respire 2? You respire 1 fire, 1 normal.

You have fire and earth and respire 2? You respire 1 fire OR earth and 1 normal.

It's not a perfect patch but it does a lot to reduce the 'Huge extra chi' effect.

I'm in the same opinion boat for that. I have one player who's eventually in on it, EVENTUALLY I'm going to string together a group for this gorgeous game.

Eventually.

Hey, an LotW thread. We need those more often!

You'll share it, anon, won't you?

I might need some feedback on a homebrew Internal later, I just have to translate it.

Oh wow, that makes so much sense. Have you heard anything about the production of the game? It seems to have been really weird, and currently stuck in an endless hiatus.

So what does everyone do for the setting? Pure Shen Zhou, open it up to a whole world of kung fu a few centuries later, Jade Dragon Academy weeb fun, modern, what?

This is how I 18th century Scholar in Romania.

I deleted the post because I realize that's internal gossip I probably shouldn't spread. But you hear this from a lot of games if you listen on forums a lot, there's always a handful of writers who make things harder for everyone else.

Every LotW game I've been in has either been not!Kowloon or high school shenanigans. Would be nice to play it in a legit fantasy setting.

Champion of Hope Style (Internal Kung Fu, Neutral):
(1) Dreams Don’t Die
Some say hope dies last. True or not, the practitioner is more resilient than his comrades.
+5 auf Toughness.

(2) Here Comes the Arm
Hope is the rejection of reality, and so the practitioner's arm rejects his foes.
+15 to Knockback Marvels

(2) Flip a Switch
Hope is rebellion against certainties. Nothing transpires without the practitioner's consent.
+15 to break Waves.

(2) Let Them Stand for Themselves
Hope living in one man is a sight that inspires others to transcend their boundaries.
Choose an ally. That ally has +15 to recover from a Disrupt or Disorient Marvel.

(2) You Cannot Do Both
There are no dilemmas, only problems for which no one has yet found a solution. Sometimes, just a little more power is enough.
+10 to Damage

(3) Hope Rides Alone
There are ways on which none dare follow. All the more important it is to never be outnumbered.
This is an Area Attack. If you have at least 5 Ripples, you have a Secondary Attack

(3) Cut Me Down or Let Me Run
Sometimes, there's no way out. Sometimes, this goes for enemies, as well.
+15 to Strike. +5 to Strike for every two Ripples the character has above 5.

(3) They Just Want a Martyr

+15 toToughness or +10 auf Chi Aura rolls.

(4) Either Way It’s All Gonna Burn
For this attack, you automatically Laugh at your opponent, and can’t Fear him. Your opponent’s defense automatically Fears you and can’t Laugh at you. Ignore up to -20 of penalties to Strike and Damage.

(4) Hero of Men
Round-long duration. +20 to defend against Disorient, Disrupt, and Knockback Marvels. +10 to Chi Aura.

Cont.

>>44430281

(5) Light Up the Night
Create a Paired Condition (Hyperactivity, Action Bonus) in yourself connected to an existing Injury Condition. The Paired Condition benefits a Skill or Combat Skill selected when this technique is used. Conditions created by this technique last until the end of the current fight. Contrary to the normal rules, more than one Paired Condition can be assigned to one Injury Condition.

LoTW is pretty much wholesale designed for wuxia, but lots of people enjoy running "anime" games with it as well.

Personally, I'm slowly building the knowledge base to try to create a European setting using themes of wuxia.

Christian friars honing quarterstaff fighting styles in their monasteries, wandering knight-errants helping the peasantry, Saracen mystics practicing their witch craft amid the sand dunes. That's the kind of setting I envision.

I may have to fiddle with the way secret arts are structured, but on the whole I think it could be pretty neat.

Also bump.

I'm of the opinion that wuxia shares a lot with shonen (or action seinen) and wastern serial drama. They're all high action melodramas at the core. I've run in the past a modern game where it was still heavily wuxia influenced, but also integrated bits and pieces of other kindred dramas.

I still keep the fighting community as the fighting community with societies and passions, but now karate cops and luchadores can fit in too. One of course should avoid Tokyo where going to the wrong bar can mean literally walking into an anime where a man with a giant sword might spit lightning at you.

I'm unwilling to fuck with the secret arts enough to let western descended Doctors use Aristotle's four elements, but that's all fluff anyway so if a player wanted to use that we'd probably just play it by the seat of our pants with description I guess.

What if I wanted to use LotW to run a high action version of another setting which isn't usually a perfect fit, like a DnD setting or something. Reasonably doable, or should I just go get Savage Worlds?

I think LotW would work for anything with a focus on over the top high action combat, it just requires tuning the mysticism and thematic stuff to it. I've been in a lot of non-Wuxia stuff in LotW and it works great.

I've got a Castlevania-style LOTW on the backburner to run at some point.
