This one can get lewdish, sure, but you have to rummage around in the options to even enable it.

Part of that is because of the image output rather than .pdf, but the dark text doesn't show up quite as well on the starfield background as it did on the pink one, even with the shaded boxes. I may swap this back to the same as the core CYOA, or find a different BG image.

In other news regarding the Patron module - Spirits renamed and refluffed to 'Lesser Forces' to emphasize it as the grab bag 'use this for anything that doesn't fit the others' option.

Deities & Horrors largely complete, just awaiting additional images. Lesser Forces and The Beacon about half done, Ebon Mint has some wonky shit intended for it, and has barely been touched. Definitely won't be complete by New Year, but I may have a working beta build by then that will be functional, if lacking in images.

Would a Buddist Bodhisattva be a Lesser Force, A Diety, or part of The Light? I would personally say the first or the third, but the second could work as well. (Although putting one of them as a "lesser force" is kind of an insult.)

Probably functions best as a Deity, though refluffing the Beacon might work. Lesser Forces are intended for things with narrow focuses that can be slain or destroyed and I don't think it would work properly for a Bodhisattva.

Miette was born in Generic Fictional City. Throughout her childhood, she was a talented athlete, competing in several different sports before settling on soccer. Her stubbornness and her desire to win led to her becoming a team captain as soon as her coaches would let her, and while she could be a polarizing figure, her teammates grew to respect her and follow her lead during games.

Miette became quickly popular her first quarter in middle school. She’d been well known as a soccer star before, and she still outshined the competition. However, a knee injury towards the end of the season removed her from the field, and threatened her future as a competitive player. An unfortunate side effect of her injury was the loss of her status, and therefore most of her friends. She fell into a depression, exacerbating the problem.

*something something video games* The key in this paragraph is finding a way to feed the competitive spirit AND the leader role without being on the field the way she was as a team captain. Video games were the only thing I could think of when putting this together, but I know there have to be other options out there.

Thoughts? Places I can improve? Even just basic grammar or phrasing tips are appreciated. Also questions about the character are welcome - I've got Miette defined pretty well as a character in my head, but I haven't put all of that to text just yet.

Working on the IRC bit atm, HoloIRC has the most recently good reviews so I'm gonna give it a go.

I follow esports and in games like league, there's usually a shotcaller. They're not necessarily as good at the game mechanically, but teams are often make or break based on how good their shotcaller is. I have to imagine there are other competitive atmospheres with a similar leader position, but I've been drawing a blank on it.

I didn't really think about the knee injury itself being the catalyst. I could definitely see that working.

Possibly the knee injury. Definitely the depression stuff though. I don't know if I'd make it full blown depression or just an extreme loss of direction in life, but that would really be the catalyst.

She takes to it because it gives her purpose again. It's not always easy for her to figure out what she should be doing about any given problem, but she is always 100% confident that she should be helping as a magical girl should.

It wouldn't be a carbon copy of pmmm, but definitely a guns and grit setting. Magical girls in the setting have to grow up fast or suffer hard for it.

That could work. It would give her the super analytical mind for command, and if she didn't expect someone to disobey, it gives a good opportunity for conflict between good guys, which I always like. I imagine her actually being a bad overall party leader, not having much patience for incompetence. But her eye for the battlefield is excellent, so she's invaluable as an effective battle commander.

Maybe she's impatient because she's used to playing Warhammer or another tabletop where her units do what SHE wants, ALWAYS.

A rather monochrome looking monster girl who tries to teach everyone how to live a fuller life by embracing both sides of the coin, light and dark.

I know it's heresy here on /tg/, but I don't actually know much about 40k. If I had to guess based on a very brief internet search, it'd be humans

Guns and grit: there's definitely dark monster things, and there's definitely very VERY real danger of serious injury or death, but that's as dark as I'm likely to get. I've never been big on putting seriously fucked up stuff behind the scenes - doesn't really bother me to read stories with it, but I don't think I could write it well and I wouldn't enjoy writing it anyway.

Personally I see most of them as more savage creatures that just happen to have been bumped up to Magi Grade, and have to be put down. I mean normal people get attacked by normal animals all the time for varying reasons. Our Megucas basically experience the same thing half the time with monsters. Only they are much stronger and much more violent.

Actually from the CYOA some of these "monsters" don't even seem like actual monsters. (I'm not going after Bigfoot and Ghosts JUST because they exist, damnit!)

I admit that so far the monsters that I'll face are pretty abstract, and my setting is likely to change some (I've got a few friends I always bullshit random setting details with for whatever's on my mind that day). I can't imagine it'll ever be cakes and cream, or even close to it, but it's not really set in stone at all. I'm mostly using the CYOA as is as an inspiration document - I'm not gonna worry too much about the technical differences between a 16 and 17 in a stat, I'll just know that if the 16 and 17 go head to head, 17 has a bit of an edge just for being a little stronger.

Lets just say the Imperium would purge your Meguca's ass faster than their lasguns can actually fire, because of your magic and you are probably associated with Puuchu. (Puuchu are filthy Xenos, after all.) Meanwhile the Tau would welcome you with mostly open arms, provided you aren't going to be an asshole and actually help them out with The Greater Good.

Black Coin: Weapon (Sword)
It is the embodiment of sadism, of exultation in destruction.
Cursed with a need to dominate.

The person who was Ophelia swerved to try and avoid the magical girl. It didn't go so well; they killed the girl, crashed the car, and fatally injured themselves in the impact. Crawling out of the wreck, they were offered the choice to be a magical girl or to die of their wounds. An obvious choice. Regeneration from the transformation began to kick in, but before it was complete the monster the first girl had been fighting showed up.

Talk about a trial by fire. With no real knowledge of how to fight, still half dazed from being mostly dead, it ended up being a pretty one sided fight. Ripped to pieces for the second time in five minutes, she heard a voice in the back of her mind. It offered a chance to win. A black coin was hers, and it promised a weapon that could save her. The puchuu tried to stop her, but hadn't it been holding her ransom just a few moments ago? An obvious choice once again.

With her new sword, she cut the pouncing monster down, and felt the thrill of her new existence as she lost consciousness. Perhaps it wasn't all bad.

She awoke in the morning. The puchuu was gone, but the sword was still here. Her memories were a little fuzzy. Perhaps the multiple near death experiences had something to do with it. Her body though, that was as good as new again. Her eyes were better too, they saw so much. She could see where that monster had been. That was something to do. Follow the trail back to where it had come from, find who or what was responsible. It was time for some payback.

She took the name Ophelia, and her journey as a dark magical girl had begun.

Could be good. I often feel Psychic is not a great direct combatant, even though it's probably the best at clearing out subtle monster infections. With Third Eye and Awareness, she'll be really good at noticing things. Of course, with her need to dominate and access to memory-editing... well, she can get into trouble right quick.

I encourage you to writefag something. We could use a few more - production has dropped off considerably since the initial MGCYOA boom in April and a short secondary boom after the transition to AMGCYOA.

Also, seeing this reminded me of a rule interaction that I hadn't intended - as per the 1.3 rules for the Black Coin, you have a weapon that generates an aura of some dark emotion or feeling - which would feed into an Empathic girl's specialty giving her juice for a specific kind of magic pretty much all the time.

I finally got around to reading it! I like it - even without the rest of the story, it didn't take long to get an idea of what was going on. Kreimhild I'm inferring is either the puchuu or the monster girl - and I'm pretty sure that I just glossed over it a little.

I noticed two things writing-wise I wanted to ask about. First, you wrote in the present tense. At first I thought you'd made a mistake, but you did a great job sticking to present. Is that a deliberate choice on your part? I've always used present for RP with people via text-based communications, and otherwise I stick to past tense. It worked, but it was a little jarring at first. If it's a conscious decision, what's the reasoning?

Second, you seemed to use certain punctuation in little spurts. Ellipses (...) showed up several times in very quick succession on a couple occasions. Also, you used hyphens - like this - in sentences right next to each other in at least two places. I always try to avoid using ANYTHING like that more than once every few paragraphs. As I recall, the idea is that you want to use "special stuff" at least a little sparingly, and you want to avoid repetition too close because it can reminds the reader of something so recent they wonder why they're being reminded of it so quickly. Don't quote me on the exact reasoning for it, cause I think there's more to it than I've put here. But it's something to keep an eye on. I find myself overusing hyphens if I don't pay attention, as well as a reliance on a small number of phrases that get to be too similar to one another.

Overall though, great story!

In general, I would rate the production of normal bullets for a rifle or pistol at a negligible cost. I only included the line to prevent people from claiming they just BRRRRT/Itano Circus their way to victory.

Pretty much no matter how you end up rolling, I feel like there aren't mundane conventional weapons that would be a better option than just fighting with your magical girl combat powers.

It was conscious- I think it's a relic of the IRC/pbp format this was passed on since I wrote this with Jran as a joint story.

Kreim is Alexa's big friend and a monstergirl. She tends to play a larger role in the other snippets.

Stone and Beast have out-of-costume boni that are not reflected in their stats. As written, Stone seems like it could keep 2 vit while gaining only 1 in costume, while Beast keeps 1 agi while gaining none. Is this intentional? I recognize that it's still useful due to the out-of-costume base of 3, but previous appearances of Beast have had agi boni in and out of costume.

I'm excited to read more about Kreim! And all of it in general, too. Your characters are interesting and not perfect, which I like a lot.

It's definitely something to look into, anyway. I know there are examples of repetition being used deliberately and very effectively. I'm not a good enough writer to know when it really works, though.

Twin Soul's stat reduction applies once, when looking at total stat number. When you are in civilian form, your stats are capped at 3 unless you have bonuses that apply out of costume.

So no, you shouldn't have 2's in stats because of Twin Soul.

This is a flashlight beam. It is a beam of light. This light is not effected by gravity.

Now my question is... Why don't Light Megucas have a support spell in the Benchmarks similar to this, where as long as they pour mana in they float? -and why is there a Instant Microwave skill in there? I mean I agree that it fits, but I think we need Maser Meguca attacks as well. Just in case Godzilla shows up.

In my opinion if all specs have Flight it makes the Wing perks pretty useless, but also the Benchmarks don't accurately reflect the current state of the game.
Scroll down to the Spec trees section and look in Light's, feel free to add ideas there.

I like to imagine that the more flight things you have, the better it gets. So if you have specialization flight, you get like level 1-3 flying with certain strengths and weaknesses based on what specialization and how strong your magic is, and wings might give you a level 2 or 3 by themselves, but with caveats of its own. Having wings AND a strong flying specialization would get you perfect flight, or at least better flight or lower mana spent (or both, depending on context).

If we're actually playing with numbers right now, I don't have a handle on what that might look like. I know DnD has various tiers of flight, so something like that could definitely serve as inspiration.
