As a thought experiment, I once dug through all the books to see how many things I could replace with Use the Force.

Core Book
Force Persuasion - Persuasion - Jedi talent
Force Intuition - Initiative - Jedi talent
Force Perception - Perception - Force talent (avoid surprise, notice enemies, sense deception, sense influence)
Force Pilot - Pilot - Force talent
Force Treatment - Treat Injury - Force Adept talent
Force Deception - Deception - Sith Apprentice talent

Jedi Academy
Instinctive Navigation - Use Computer - Force talent (astrogation, sensor operation)
White Current Adept - Stealth - White Current Adept talent
Fluidity - Acrobatics - Shapers of Kro Var talent

Clone Wars
Insight of the Force - Knowledge - Jedi Knight talent (untrained knowledges only)

Jedi 7/Jedi Knight 1/Sith Apprentice 5/Force Adept 1/Sith Lord 3

Note: Build assumes the terrible default rule of "if you stop being a sith all your sith talents stop working", if said rule is not enforced, Sith Lord can be replaced with Jedi Master or Force Disciple

>Separatist holdouts or sleeper cells that don't know the war ended.
>Floating capital ships that were crippled by the war, with weird clone experiments roaming the decks.
>Sith artifacts slowly corrupting what was once a Republic medical base.
>A shipment of experimental, extremely powerful but unstable weaponry created by Sep R&D in the last days of the war.
>A Separatist war criminal with a large bounty on his head, who offers to trade the locations of Separatist materiel storage for his freedom.
>A cargo cult on a backwater Outer Rim world that worships offworlders, particularly battle droids, and has a temple consisting of a derelict MTT.
>A Sienar Fleet Systems research base, testing designs for the TIE series of fighters.
>Defective clone soldiers in a drifting, battle-damaged ARC-170. They appeal to the PCs for help.

This is pretty much why Saga sucks. "Welp force powers are already way more effective than other combat options, so lets make it so you can replace almost every skill with use the force so you don't need those muggle fags for pesky skills either"
>>
Star Wars stuff is on sale on Steam right now

If you can't find your old copy of Jedi Academy, go buy a new one
>>
>>44392263
I'm having a similar problem in my EotE/FaD campaign. One Force-sensitive on the lam hired a smuggler and bounty hunter to help her get to Taris, where she believes a Jedi Master in hiding can train her.

The party will get to Taris in a couple sessions and so far my plan is for the local Hutt lord to secretly impound their stolen ship, and when they go looking for a way to get it back, he'll force them into a bounty to repay him. The bounty will be on a Jedi who cheated him during the Clone Wars, and they'll have other bounty hunters to compete with.

How do I make actually finding their mark and master a process instead of just "okay, so you look and find him but here's a combat with another hunter"? I've only GM'd a couple times before.

As an addendum to this, Dark Forces II and Mysteries of the Sith do not work on Steam. Do not buy them, the port is crap and they crash constantly. The GOG versions work for me, however.

>How do I make actually finding their mark and master a process instead of just "okay, so you look and find him but here's a combat with another hunter"? I've only GM'd a couple times before.
Have them find clues and rumors of his last known location, then make something interesting happens when they get there, that gives them the next clue...
Jedi are tricky and have ways. If he does not want to be found, he won't be easy to find, if he doesn't fuck off to an uncharted planet like Luke.
>>
>>44392263

I like these ideas; I am also thinking of the PC ship stumbling upon an Imperial fleet action against a holdout, featuring an ISD.

They drop out of hyperspace, near the crossfire, Imperial comms order them to heave to, while the Sep holdout blasts propaganda.
>>
>>44392651

Perhaps have the search go global, asking the locals, doing favours to get their assistance (while proving to the Jedi the party aren't complete murderhobos).
>>
Oh goodie, I missed two entire threads of bullshit after I had my post-Christmas Odinsleep. Also, hello Roshfan.

I have a question for y'all: if Anakin built C-3PO out of scrap and spare parts, why does he directly map to a mass-produced protocol droid model?

He didn't build him from nothing.
He found a busted protocol droid in the scrapyard, Watto let him keep it, and he fixed him up and got him working.

I moved to a new city and found the local x-wing guys. After playing a few games with various people they apparently don't like that I keep winning. I'm not really a hardcore player or anything but apparently they think I'm tourneyfag mcfuckface or something with my super l33t HWK-290 lists and my crazy naked defender bullshit. Clearly I'm the greatest faggot of all time. Not sure if I need to play like I'm retarded to fit in better or just hammer their asses flat at their winter kit tourney this weekend.
>>
>>44393995

You could try talking to them. Teach them how to play the game.

Being a big fish in a small pond may be fine for store champs and kit nights, but it'll make you easy prey when the ghost-faced killers come from out of town.
>>

Hammer their asses flat, but give tips and explain why the things you're doing are good. Teach the young padawanfags the ways of the miniatures.

Then swap armies with them and push their shit in.

Show them that they're weak, and put them on the path to the dark side.

At the tourney, you do you. Win that shit.

In casual play, have them build your list a few times. Then shove their shit in and let them know that you're not a tourneyfag, they're just bad.

It sounds like sour grapes.

Throw something funny at them in the Winter Tourney, if you win with it then it shows that their ship-fu is weak.

You can really tell his training is shit by the way he fights and how the girl beats him in the mind duel despite only just then coming into her power.
>>
>>44393995

Could tone down their lists, or build your own list and switch players so you're playing them. Give them tips, and advice, raise them to your level and stay level-headed, courteous, and likeable. Hard to stay mad at a good player who helps you and shows you how to be better. But don't butt into other people's games, compliment your opponent's game and tell them how they can improve.

And if it's in the budget, bring a few snacks or drinks to share. Even if you win every game, your opponent gets a free root beer or something out of the deal. Though that's basically bribery. Sweet bribery.

It's the specializations and their characteristic-based talents. So the main things that make Niman Disciple are the Niman Technique to let you use Willpower, Draw Closer to use Force Points to get extra Success, and Force Assault to use Force Move if you fucked your roll; all of which is tied to using Willpower so they can't be used with other forms/characteristics. Everything else in the tree is more of just universal lightsaber stuff that applies to general stuff or all lightsaber combat, regardless of form.

They keep referencing my dice, which have not in any way been modified ever. Last time I was up there I played against a TIE swarm, explained what I was doing (luring them into the asteroids to split them up and pick them off), did so, and then won without losing a ship. Then another player, having watched the first game and keenly aware of what went wrong proceeded to build a 'better' swarm, do the same thing and get wrecked without taking a ship. And then blamed the dice.

His profile almost exemplifies his scrawniness, his oddly pinched waist and thin arms. He's gangly.

The lightsaber fight at the end was intense, though. Fucking panting and shit, you could tell that fighting like this takes a lot out of you, it's an ordeal and it feels intense. And then him hitting his side for pain, keeping himself awake and driven by that.

Kylo is a piece of shit emo, a human disaster like his grandfather before him, but he's kind of scary because it makes him volatile, unpredictable, prone to tantrums and the need to prove himself, taking out his internal struggles on the world around him.

Darth Vader was in control, he only choked people who failed him or directly insulted or questioned his authority. He was confident in his power and position and shrugged off the insults or yammerings of captives and Bounty Hunters alike. Kylo throws tantrums and breaks things or chokes people.

Where would you fit the T-70 in Legends continuity? Same with all the other TFA ships.

I'd probably put it as a bridge between the T-65 and the XJ line. Meanwhile the Finalizer would be some Moff's personal battlecruiser. The TIE/fo and TIE/sf would probably be early Pellaeon Imperial Remnant fighters.

Star Wars: Dark Mirror
>Summary: (Rewriting of Star Wars: The True Faces of Heroes) 7 ABY. Luke Skywalker is a PTSD-stricken veteran, living with his adopted son Ken. He wants nothing more than to live out his days away from the Galactic Civil War. But when an old enemy comes back and Luke is forced to confront the darkest part of his soul, will he come back unscathed, even with an unexpected help?
>Hurt/Comfort/Mystery

>D. The Wanderer's Author Rant
>Countless stories have been told about the heroes of the Star Wars Universe, both the Canon and the Legends one. As a great Legends fan, I felt the need of keeping the torch of the EU fire burning, despite it being basically written off as a "separate but equally valid continuity" (Much like the Doctor Who Virgin New & Missing Adventures, which were however written by former DW scriptwriters and directors). I am also sad because of how quickly the character of Ken (goody-two-shoes grandson of Palpatine which befriended Luke in a forgotten book series) was forgotten by the EU people themselves, despite having so much potential.
>Just to clarify, this isn't a story about the lesser known characters of Star Wars being turned into heroes. It's about the heroes of Star Wars themselves being brought down from their pedestals-and portrayed as normal people, with extraordinary qualities, of course, but still with the anguishes, doubts, regrets and fears of normal people. Prepare to see a PTSD-afflicted Luke Skywalker, a Vietnam-veteran-like Rogue Squadron, a more politician-like and pragmatical leia Organa, an edgier, more rugged Han Solo, a harsher but more fragile Mara Jade, and a more vengeful and bloodthirsty Lumiya.
>My rather ambitious task having been presented, enjoy its prologue.

>>
Hey guys what's the current status with the XWM damage decks. Is it ok to use the older one
>>
>>44394434
It's not that odd.
Good or evil, Light or Dark, in Star Wars isn't some ean counting "points" system like in a video game.
It's about choice.
Vader was redeemed because in that moment, he saw what he had spent the last ~20 years of his life doing, felt true remorse, and chose to not be that person anymore. He rejected the Dark and set out to make things right. Should that choice be invalidated simply because he died in the process of trying to make things right before he could accrue enough points to get to the other end of some bullshit bioware "morality bar"?
Kyp is a result of later writers deciding to make him STILL a cunt instead of writing him as a remorseful man trying to make up for what he did.
>>
>>44394509
Yes, they changed their mind, either is okay to use.

Though I think they might still be going ahead with Worlds using only the new ones, but them handing out decks to everyone who participates - if that matters.
>>

They're both emo kids, but of different stripes.

Anakin was stricken by an impotence he felt because he was restrained by the Jedi. He was quite powerful, though.

Alright, let's talk about this author's note before we discuss the two chapters of this.

First, that is not how you use the word 'pragmatical'.

Second 'felt the need of keeping the torch of the EU fire burning' while admirable, I think that fandom would be a better place if enough people would actually WAKE UP and realize that guess what? YOU. DON'T. OWN. STAR. WARS. AND. YOU. NEVER. DID. Having a sense of love for Star Wars and all its forms is great, but this.... obsession with the idea that Disney killed Star Wars is odd. Disney didn't kill Star Wars (yet), but they did buy the freehold. The EU got tossed out the door but you need to recognize that the stories that matter, the stories we LOVE are still there in our hearts and no movie, no book, no comic, no press release will EVER take away the magic we feel when we experience them.

Third: Ken Palpatine is from a forgotten book series for a REASON. They are objectively terrible and me loving them doesn't stop me from admitting that. Saying that it shouldn't have been forgotten is like saying Darksaber or Crystal Star shouldn't have been forgotten. (Spoilers, they absolutely should have to the point of never having been written along with Children of the Jedi)

Fourth: It's the LATER EU that puts the characters of Star Wars up onto pedestals and only the better writers refuse to do that. Zahn's Luke is a Jedi Knight who knows enough to know that he knows nothing. Hard won wisdom over a compassionate farmboy turned soldier turned Jedi. Allston's Wedge is a TERRIFIC pilot but also has his own problems, including ego and stubbornness that serves him well but gets him into problems. Leia Organa Solo is an increasingly frazzled politician who can't stop when people need her even if the people who need her most are her family. Han Solo is a smuggler turned General who has grown from a selfish man into a true hero with the tactical know-how that might rival Ackbar's.

Repostan. Might get some more and more interesting discussion

The First Order has put you in charge of a program to replace the TIE and TIE Bomber with a multirole fighter

What hard qualities (firepower, speed, armor/shields) does your prototype emphasize?

What handling qualities are must important for winning a dogfight?

What ergonomic decisions improve the pilot's performance?

How cool does it look? (Very important for sales success)

Nah, that's the same design ethos as the IJN torpedo cruisers. It'd be a sound design so long as the enemy fails to detect it before it enters engagement range, but radar and scout planes prevented that from being the case.

You'd have an easier time with that kind of thing in space, especially if they could warp in with a hyperdrive, launch their payload and disappear again.

After the Vong War, Jacen settled down to be Watchman of the Hapes Cluster and the galaxy's greatest dad. He never took an apprentice due to his own uncertainties after his experience on Yuuzhan-tar, but he served as the Royal Advisor on all Force related affairs.

Is the Empire actually giving money for shields and a hyperspace drive? I'd probably take a gunboat as a template and see what I could do about decreasing weight trying to find a balance between speed and firepower, removing ion and upgrading the powerplant as necessary. It's airframe would arguably let it handle it atmo better than Ties as well. Starwings are sexy as fuck.

That or see what I could do about missile bays on shielded interceptors.

Fourth: (continued) Mara Jade is someone who survived close contact with the Emperor for almost two decades. If anything, she's made of the same stuff that the Suncrusher is to have come out of that with only intimacy and trust issues and that compulsion to KILL LUKE SKYWALKER. She's a survivor and you making her a broken bird is a disservice to her and anyone else who has escaped an abusive situation and lived on.
Fifth: "PTSD-afflicted Luke Skywalker" ..... Have you like..... ever experienced Star Wars? Obviously PTSD happens HERE, but does it happen THERE? If anything, Luke should have PTSD because of Bespin and Endor. That's got to be fucking SUPER-trauma to be beaten up by a man who turns out to be you father, almost kill him after he threatens your sister, and almost get electrocuted to death by HATE BEAMS.
Sixth: Ambitious, I will grant you. But I wonder if you have the drive to see it through. Lord knows I wish I did.

Next post I will actually talk about the damn story and not just a three post counter-rant.

>7 ABY (7 years After the Battle of Yavin)
For someone supposedly keeping the fire of the EU alive, you sure don't have faith in your audience.
>Luke didn't like this bar.
It's coarse and it gets everywhere. Not like here.
>No one was really prone to try and recognize him, or ask questions for that matter, and that suited him just fine. His last interview with Janis Thorn had ended up with him putting the journalist in the hospital, and Thorn and all his friends, like the vultures they were, had immediately pounced on the event.
So..... what you MEAN when you say "PTSD-afflicted Luke Skywalker' is this isn't even CLOSE to Luke Skywalker but you're going to CALL him that and hope we don't notice.
>He knew that Thorn had wanted him to attack him that night. And putting the man in the hospital had only managed to further hammer Thorn's point home:the Jedi were dangerous and could not be trusted. Even more the same Jedi who had fired the lucky shot that destroyed the Death Star I, and the Tarkin, and had seemingly managed to kill both Vader and the Emperor, and had ended the lives of Shadowspawn and fifty thousand peope in a single shot.
>And this were only the most famous of the very massacres he'd perpetrated.
>But what had really made Luke's blood boil was Thorn's question of how could a twenty-six year-old murderer with serious mental problems have possibly been thought fit to be the foster father of a teenage orphan.

Okay. We have come to the reason I have taken so long to post about this. This is..... this is not only ABSOLUTE HORSESHIT this is.....

I need you all to understand.... what the Death Star did, what TARKIN did was not okay!
You can argue all you like about rebels and insurgents and terrorists, but the facts are that the Rebel Alliance does not attack civilian targets, does its best to never strike from amidst civilian populations and does not use plain-clothes operatives when it is performing a dedicated military action.
Tarkin ordered the Death Star to fire on a civilian planet, an unarmed target who are not military personnel, not any threat to the Empire, and, for the most part, NOT REBELS.

Tarkin destroyed Alderaan because it was a core world, something that EVERYONE would notice. An example that he COULD shoot because he didn't know where the Rebel base was and because 'the light was better there' as the old joke goes.

Luke Skywalker and the rest of the fighter group that flew out to meet the Death Star attacked a military target and you can argue whatever the fucking hell you like about how many people were on it or whatever, the fact is that it was a MILITARY installation primarily staffed by MILITARY personnel and if you somehow think that they didn't believe that danger came as part of the job then I have a bridge to sell you.

Is Luke Skywalker a murderer? Yes. Because he was a soldier and killing is part of the job. EVERY soldier is a murderer. Technically anybody who has ever raised a rolled up newspaper to a spider is a murderer. So before anyone throws stones, be sure that you've never sinned. Because you're next.

The Death Star was a military installation which can and did defend itself, he was not blowing up an unarmed planet, he was not shooting children at a preschool, and he wasn't flying a plane into an office building. He was engaging in a military operation against a military target to PROTECT a military target. That is the only massacre that you could ever put on his hands.

Also, it wasn't a single shot. It was two. Fucker.

I don't know anything of the sort, motherfucker!
I stopped reading Star Wars novels roughly after the Jedi Academy trilogy, because it was obvious that Star Wars was over. The New Republic was victorious, the Jedi resurgent, and the Empire down to pitiful remnants.

Nothing after that mattered because all future writers could do to gin up conflict was;

A) introduce new sith
B) have existing characters turn to the dark side for Reasons(tm)
C) introduce new galactic-scale threats (evil species, hegswarms, etc)

and rehash forever.

I..... honestly, I have no interest in continuing to review this fic. Because this thing is absolute horseshit that goes against the atmosphere of Star Wars. I am fine with KOTOR 2, I think it's alright. Karen Traviss? What the hell, why not. Troy Denning? Fine, bring him in.
But this absolute HOGWASH is.....
Look, later in the chapter Mara Jade shows up to kill him and he mentions how he's actually hoping for death and has to talk himself down from eating a blaster bolt because he has Ken to worry about.

The SECOND chapter has him in the principal's office of Ken's school because Ken used the Force to defend himself from three guys beating him up and the principal is punishing KEN because he's a no-good dirty WITCH-I mean JEDI! And also the wife of one of the Death Star technicians tried to assassinate Leia and Luke kills her first and obviously LUKE is in the wrong because the wife of a military serviceman became mentally unblanced enough to attempt to MURDER a member of the standing government! Because of COURSE that's the sane course of action!

So yeah, we're done here. This.... hogwash. Fuck, I never thought I'd run into something that made me more angry than Stuff but by god did I find it. At least Stuff was written by someone who actually sort of understood Star Wars.

FUCK!
>>44396088

This. The entire message of RoJ is anyone can be redeemed. Vader himself didn't believe that. His power came from his hate for himself and what he had done. Luke told him ANYONE can be redeemed. When Luke said, "I am a Jedi, like my father before me", he forgave him for everything and in that moment his hate became regret and his power was gone. I'm just saying man...
Yoda's character is such that he's been living fat, happy, and precognitive for hundreds of years. But by the time that we meet him, he's terrified to do anything for fear of getting it wrong. In that way, the dark side has co-opted him without his even realizing it.

Because of this everything that Yoda says and does, he gets wrong. It falls to Obi Wan (who is DEAD) of all people to talk sense into Yoda and get him to train Luke.

Whatever he once was, Yoda is no longer a credible source of information.

>extremely effective soldiers

>ridiculously expensive
>constantly have to be replacing soldiers due to advanced aging if you want them as a standing army (faster then normal anyway)

The problem with trying to push games with TFA as a setting is that they didn't develop it for shit. We get a whole three sentences to describe the New Republic before Starkiller Base blasts its capital system off the galactic map, and most of the movie is spent running across the whole galaxy from the First Order in spite of them apparently being an overzealous backwater junta. And on the tech side we got a grand total of five new ships with camera focus, so using movie-canon vehicles to differentiate the setting is out.

It's going to take a lot of hard carrying from the visual dictionaries and other side material to bring a sense of scale to the ST era.
>>
>>44399395
Not that much better than a Muurian transport, which has almost as much firepower on an even smaller frame.

I think two double light turbolasers or something.
>>
>>44399412
The ICS sure doesn't help. It's absolutely atrocious.

The Visual Dictionary is better.
>>
>>44399305
I felt similarly. It was a decent-to-good movie, but very flawed. It felt like it needed another critical eye during the writing phase, or another round of editing. I've seen it twice so far, and I'm going to see it a third time at least, because I want very badly to have an unbiased opinion on it, but my second viewing didn't contribute much to my thoughts on it.
>>
>>44399448
The couple of ICS pictures I've seen looked like 3d modeling with a blurry filter, so I'm with you on that.

Visual Dictionary gets points for pointing out AND explaining the TIE/fo's deflector shield, as well as for throwing fuel on the Punished C-3PO memes.
>>
>>44399401
I'm assuming that the clones that exhibit proficiency for leadership and tactical/strategic thinking are appointed as leadership. Clones may start from the same base genetic template but even from the training stage, many will diverge from the norm and develop their own quirks.
>>
>>44399503
>as well as for throwing fuel on the Punished C-3PO memes.

>>
>>44399479
I only just saw it earlier today after having read entirely too many spoilers (I'm bored and as soon as JJ was announced as writing, I gave no fucks because not really a fan of his previous movies).

The movie was exactly what I expected it to be - an okay movie, but not something I'd be willing to see in theaters again. Rampant JJ-isms all over the place to the point where it felt like it was aping a Star Wars movie more than it was actually trying to be one.

What's worse is that even though John Williams was given far more time to create the music for TFA (most of his stuff for the previous movies was done in a matter of weeks, but TFA he had nearly five months), no real music stood out to me; Kylo's theme... I literally don't remember it. The only music that did stand out was Rey's theme that played when she slid down the hill, and all the points where they reused motifs from the OT soundtracks.

Just going to point out that Luke failed utterly when confronting the Emperor. It was Anakin that bailed his nuts out of the electric fire.

Yoda's teachings lead to failure, ruin, and sith lords. That's why he peaced out to the swamp.

The lesson of Star Wars is that the Dark Side IS stronger. But you have to man up and oppose it anyway, even though it leads to a never-ending cycle of vicious reprisal and violent death.

It was all the more disappointing because of how close it flirted to being a fantastic movie. The first section, everything up to Rey and Finn getting onto Han's freighter, was astonishingly good. Much better than anything I was expecting. Then the awkwardly written standoff between Han, the space-Tau, and the Kanji Club, followed by the Universal Studios themepark rathtar scene destroyed the pacing that had been carefully cultivated up to that point, and the movie never really recovered. The weird story choices (reverting all of Han and Luke's characterization from the OT? Introducing and destroying a superweapon in like 40 minutes of movie? Awkward interruption to hang out at Orange Yoda's Cantina?) felt like they were the result of a last minute brainstorm of a plot. That first 20-30 minutes, on repeat viewings, feel like a glimpse of the much better film lurking beneath the TFA we got. Ultimately it was a pretty okay movie, that could have been great, but hewed too closely to the original trilogy's tropes without paying enough attention to being a good movie in the meantime.
>>
>>44399787
Yeah, you're right! The Dark Side IS stronger! That's why Vader picked the Emperor up in a Force choke and threw him out his big picture window and then pulled the entire Imperial Fleet into one big ball of metal.

And that's ALSO why Palpatine just forced his way into Luke's mind to force him over to the Dark Side! And that's also why when the Rebel fleet showed up he gathered IT up into a big ball of metal!

Except that's NOT what happened. What happened is that Luke is a Jedi Knight who's had barely any training, still managed to beat his father and managed to beat the Emperor in the only way that matters.
Killing the Emperor doesn't prove that the Jedi way is stronger. Proving the dark side isn't stronger is when you refuse to play its game in it's inner sanctum.

Who can possibly hate bubble cockpits? They are literally the best cockpits, are you going to dig up Howard Hughs and make him remove bubble cockpits from the best period of aviation?

A composite beam weapon is hardly a deathstar, it uses the same tech yes, but the composite beam tech has been used since the clone wars.

Great idea, make sure you factor in power usage and overload problems. The empire has a long history of silly tie prototypes after all.
>>
>>44399900
And the rebellion defeated the empire only for us to end up with the empire and the rebellion again.

TFA should've brought us the age of the new republic and new jedi order. Instead we got more of rebellion vs empire, bnut not really lol. I like the movie, but i doubt i'll ever get over this stupid ass decision to stay exactly the same as the OT.

What are you talking about? Luke lives in the Jedi Temple on Ossus, peacefully enjoying retirement, surrounded by his friends and loved ones, and lets his son and niece handle the tough situations. But you are wrong. This is the "interwar" period if you will, so far the the A-wing and B-wing prototype, as well as the old y-wing got a similar vibe going on. They are rather sleek with nice bubble cockpits. The X-wing and new Y-wing are the ones that are gonna shake it up into the next age of fighters.

These designs we're being shown would not evolve into the one in the movies. Partially, because reducing the visibility of your pilots. If anything, the older versions of this ships should have either: claustrophobic cockpit designs or the additional parts placed somewhere else on the body so the "we took it off due to maintenance concerns" would work as opposed to integrated in the primary fuselage that we clearly see has no signs of these parts in the movies.

It's really bad world building.
