Well, my campaign from a while ago featured an ambitious succubus whose lord had her insinuate herself into several major political powers, using various means, in order to subvert them into his service.
The plan was that she was seditious and planned to amass enough power in secret while paying her Lord lip service that she could rebel, which would lead to an arc where the party finds almost the entire subcontinent convulsed in a proxy war between them, and the party would have to find a way to end it before either side started marching armies of demons openly. The succubus was as Evil as her lord, but since she took care to maintain maintained plausible deniability she was unwilling to enact wide-reaching and noticeable acts of evil. Her lord had no such scruples, but had little personal interest in the region beyond suppressing her rebellion. This would make the party choose between backing the succubus and minimizing destruction among the innocent and misled citizens at the cost of solidifying the danger of a local and pernicious demon, or assisting the campaign of her lord in order to get the region demon-free as quickly as possible at the cost of the widespread destruction his forces would spread before withdrawing.

Unfortunately, my players never caught on to the fact that the succubi they kept finding in positions of power were all the same one; they assumed that the succubi were supporting elements to an outright demonic invasion of the region sent to soften up the target, and focused their efforts on fighting both. The fact that the succubus knew their names the second time they met (as well as more and more comprehensively preparing for their builds and equipment each time after) and attempts to enlist their aid were dismissed "Well of course their spies are going to be well informed, we're making ourselves a bigger target every time we bust one of them."
