I was kicking around an idea for a Miraluka Jedi. Specialist in Sensing, to the point where the vague danger sense all Jedi get is pretty much equal to the advanced Spider sense. He'll be able to pick up danger, what direction, what form, etc. Average in most other areas of Force Use. Mediocre in Energy Manipulation.

Would that be OP or make sense?

I like it. Jedi are kind of 'op' by definition. I would check with your GM first before committing-precognitive and borderline precognitive characters, even just a very defined danger sense, can be odd to run for and not all GMs can do it well.

I'm doing the same idea as well, but in reality all miraluka's have the ability of force sense. Literally the way I view them is toph from ATLA, except they can also sense projectiles and things in the air.

But, that being said I'm pretty sure they can only focus in one area at a time, so if something is sneaking behind them while they are focusing their vision elsewhere it would be harder to spot.

If it is OP I'd say not really, since that's what they all do. I mean Togrua's can do the same thing in a 25 ft radius due to their hallow "horns" or montrals. It's not like this is unique, it's just miraluka's can also see through walls all the time as well.

>>
>>44386471
Easiest option for the Rebels is the aces pack. It's different 2 ships and a very good couple of load outs for them to give your squad variety.

I would also recommend aces for Imperials, but that one is kinda eh. Your best pilot by far for the interceptor is in the base pack for one, not in the aces pack. Not to mention it's 2 interceptors which is a little boring. At least to me, if you love em go right for it. Imperials just comes down to what you want out of them.

Does anyone have experience with Armada?

I got it instead of X-Wing because I like the scale more, but I see way less discussion of it.

What are some good buys, if I just want variety? I want the fighter packs, and the scum (or whatever) pack, but I'm really not sure where to go with the actual capital ships. I'll probably grab an ISD, because why the fuck not.

Ideally I'd like to have enough for a two person game, with enough options for both sides to keep it interesting.

>palpatine had a reason

If your referring to the whole "palp's and his empire + superweapons to stop the vong" nonsense, then you can stop right there
>>
>>44386617
Start with Most Wanted. Z-95s are scum staples, Black Sun and Hutt friendly, and the y-wing mercenaries aren't too shabby and can work for either faction as well-you might want to buy a rebel y-wing just to start off as well. N'dru, the best named z-95 pilot, is a budget x-wing, and the y-wing pilots Drea and Kavil are both great-Kavil's extra dice outside of his firing arc is fantastic for turrets. Basic z-95s pair well with feedback array or deadman's switch, while basic y-wings are tanks that can use the btl title to fire both a turret weapon and basic weapon forward.

Starvipers are odd-I love the model, and they come with good cards. With a pretty decent move dial and 3 agility they can be good dogfighters. They don't have evade though, nor do they have enough green moves to shed stress from PTL effectively and are also expensive if you try to kit them out with everything. I've been playing around with Guri and lone wolf to decent effect.

The HWK is my favorite scum ship by far-all the pilots are support but do something fun. Torkhil reduces an enemy's pilot skill to 0 during combat, so let's your ships get the drop on him, Palob steals focus and evade tokens from the enemy, which causes all sorts of rage, and Dace is the most boring but practical letting ion do an extra damage.

I haven't had a chance to fly any of the other ships yet, sadly.

I love playing Armada, even more than X-Wing. Issue is it's just hard to play it. I only know so many people willing to actually play it and even then the setup for it is harder.

All that asside, what to get:
Assault Frigate and a Gladiator will balance both sides out for a 300 point game. ISD and MC80 will give you what you need for 400 point fun. Sounds like you have squadrons covered. From there everything else is open to just what you want out of the faction. I would play with those essentials first before deciding what you want duplicates of. Don't both following any of the advice below before that point in which you've played with those a bit.

As rebels I like running duplicates of Corvettes, MC30s, or Ass Frigs. A second MC80 can be crazy but know that you're putting all your eggs in two baskets like that. Another Neb is questionable, though there is some nice upgrades for it in the Neb stand alone pack.

As for Imperials, almost everything is fantastic in duplicates. ISD same as MC80, you're gonna eat all your points up getting a second of those. Raiders are of just as questionable use as the Nebs. Duplicates of Gladiators and Victories make for some fantastic builds. At the very least get one victory stand alone.

Yeah. When Daala reunified the Empire, she organized a mofference of warlords before deciding they were all idiots except for Pellaeon.

Then she jobbed just as hard or harder than Phasma. So, you see, female villains jobbing is a time honored tradition in Star Wars.

Exactly. Personally, I'd stick a generic z95 in there just for a bit more coverage. They actually have solid dials, just never little green on them, so things like stress spam could cripple you. Bust mostly that something like 4 B wings with cannons or vader. soontir and the palpmobile are just so strong.
>>

I feel like the only thing redeeming the prequels is that the EU like the videogames and Clone Wars managed to salvage what they could and fix what George broke. So very indirectly we got good stuff out of it.
>>
>>44386906
Yeah, one thing I did like was how they setup this grand atmosphere and a giant Galaxy. That was probably my favorite part of the prequels. That, and the Clones.

I don't think you'll get rekt with Scum firesprays. Especially depending on how you play-between bombs and there arcs, firesprays can lay down decent control.

It's more of a matter of volume, which you've already realized-the less ships you have, the less forgiving they are to fly. Swarms still only have inidividual ships with 3-4 health opposed to a Firesprays 10(?). Be sure to use evade and remember your rear arc.

AotC and RotS had some pretty amazing battles that got praised even while the plot and acting was derided. The real complaint was too much going on.

The Dooku fights are pretty great, as is the Grievous and Magnaguard fights. There's an issue with the Mail fight that's glaringly obvious when it's pointed out, but it still looks cool.

a vanilla z95 is like 12 points, they're your goto fillers for rebels and scum.

Does your group care about having cards for things? If not, play around with the different types of bombs and load up spam mines and charges all over the place.

Also with an engine upgrade, you can shoot across the table on turn one with a full move > boost b.c of your base size.

I saw it today and I hated it.

Rey was a fucking Mary Sue. Do any of the higher ups at Disney have a daughter that likes star wars? I suspect that this movie was heavily influenced by one of her fanfics.

WTF is going on with the Republic/Resistance/Empire/First Order? Is the empire in decline? If so, how the fuck did they manage to design and build a "bigger deathstar" when the regular Deathstars were extraordinarily taxing to construct for the Empire at the height of its power?

What's the deal with the republic? Do they just not care about the Empire anymore? I kept hearing about this "Massive Republic Fleet" but I don't recall seeing one capital ship. Are they taking the Murrica CIA approach of "we'll fight terrorism by arming other rival militant groups" school of warfare?

Kylo Ren couldn't be taken seriously because he acted like an immature angsty teenager that threw a temper tantrum every-time something went wrong.

Phasma...why was she even in the movie? She got 30 seconds of screentime before being forced to shut off the shields to the super weapon. Why does a stormtrooper captain have the necessary credentials to disable the defenses of your superweapon? Why can the shields be disabled from a random terminal in a shitty trash room in the middle of nowhere? Why did she even turn off the shields? What little buildup of her character made it seem like she was the sort who would rather die than jeopardize the Empire's plans.

Snokes. What kind of name is Snokes? That sounds like the name of some lowlife street punk, not your big bad.

The space ships. X-wings are the only wings. Ignore other letters in the alphabet. Regular TIE fighters are the only TIEs. But we're new and original because we recolored them and now they seat two...

Fuck JJ Abrams. All he's good at is copying existing films and throwing tons of money at the special effects budget.

>>
>>44387117
Do not use Autoblaster Turret without the Y-Wing title that restricts you to regular firing arc but lets you fire it with your primary, otherwise you're wasting attack dice at range 1.

Better suggestion do not use Autoblaster Turret at all, use an Ion Cannon Turret instead.

I think it was supposd to be a state sponsored terror group vs neonazis, legit was laughing when they were doing the totally not nazi speech.

I thought kylo was interesting in that he was totally the awkward fanboy that wants to be taken seriously. I liked his choreography and that medieval greatsword feel against two people just wailing at him with a stick. His mask was hideous, and looked like something a wannabe school shooter would wear and voice sounded like something I could do with a free voicemod.

Phasma should have been the one with the shocktonfa, and she instantly recognizing him would be believable. I was shocked she just let them take her. I was expecting a badass fight to the death from one so loyal to the first order.

I expected a twist to be that ren was abducting force sensitive kids to be troopers to control potential jedi.

>>44387117
Not a fan of autoblasters b/c they;re only range one, espec on something like a y wing that can;t really turn too well. an Ion cannon would be pretty nice to setup runs from your firesprays, Twin Laser Turrets are very good on y wings. Otherwise looks solid, a very tanky list with a ton of coverage.

You'd honestly be better running the Firesprays with a Kihraxz at that stage, also if you think Predator is good enough for one of them, it's good enough for the other.

Truly though, if you're set on double Firespray
-Boba Fett w/ Veteran's Instincts, Gunner, Engine Upgrade
-Kath Scarlett w/ Veteran's Instincts, Gunner, Engine Upgrade
That gives you a good amount of firepower and maneuverability at Pilot Skill 9 and 10. Use that to dodge past people, make sneaky moves around rocks and shoot them with your buttgun

Assuming you;'e US, I get most of my stuff off amazon, especially the bigger ones, Firesprays are 22 atm, then a y wing is 11, so around 56, then if your group cares about having cards, you have to get those expansions. At least at my flgs, if you have the app or a printout of what everything does, they're cool with whatever. I;d recommend getting a most wanted pack if you want to play scum, 2 z95s and a y wing, though at retail is a decent deal, very good if you can find it for ~25.

I had a really surprisingly successful couple games with this list. I just pulled it together because I wanted to use my new Tie Fighter pilots and Agent Kallus. The fighters do their job of not being completely ignoble thanks to their pilots and enough of them to gunk up the works. The phantom meanwhile hits freakin hard.

“Echo” (41)
TIE Phantom (30), Agent Callus (2), Sensor Jammer (4), Veteran Instincts (1), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
“Backstabber” (16)
“Night Beast” (15)
“Chaser” (14)
“Wampa” (14)

What kills me the most is that it's just another entry in the J.J. Sci-Fi Reboot genre - in which J.J. overclocks the plot at the expense of any tone or worldbuilding, refuses to try doing anything original, and cranks away at the jack-in-the-box full of surprise drama.

Seriously, who the fuck looked at the sudden cut to the previously unmentioned Starkiller Base executing genocide on a previously unmentioned solar system and said "yeah, that's a really compelling scene we've got here"? Or thought that Kylo impaling Han wasn't blatantly obvious and needed to be awkwardly drawn out?

Every time I hear another person repeat "at least it wasn't the prequels", all I can think is "at least the Disney writing committee kept the first half from being Into Darkness level garbage." At this point I'm left scrounging for fresh memes and hoping they actually try something new with VIII.

It didn't really feel that way to me. I always found the scarcity of the Lightsaber Usage in the OT a big appeal, they're only drawn when they're absolutely needed. Luke uses his Blaster otherwise or Vader uses the Force. Lightsaber is a last resource, and when they duel it felt like it was the only possibility. They square up and you know why they're fighting, cuts to other characters let you know what's at stake. In the Prequel trilogy, I can't remember any of these lightsaber fights actually being important to other characters.
Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan vs Maul had no influence on Anakin and the Gunganns or Padmé, the real focus should've been on Anakin and Padmé as they cut the head off the droid army.

Anakin and Obi-Wan vs Dooku was...they followed him to his base and tried to kill him? Interspliced with Padmé rolling down a sand-dune, no real drama or anything and Yodas character gets absolutely butchered.

Episode 3, Grevious fight is utterly ludicrous, why does Obi-Wan jump into the middle of a droid army and make a quip? I don't even recall him calling in that he's found Grevious to the council or anyone higher up in the war, this is a pretty big deal after all. And the Obi-Wan vs Anakin fight was ludicrous, could've ended at any time, all that had to happen was that Anakin loses and his fall from grace is complete.

I even went back and watched TPM last night on a younger sibling's request. The script and acting (directing?) are horribly wooden and Anakin's extreme youth makes things awkward as fuck, but there's some honest-to-god creativity in there.

The prequels as a whole are fundamentally flawed, but at least they have their own style. TFA just felt like what it was - the lovechild of J.J.'s personal style and a Marvel movie with a thick coat of OT references.

This. On some level I think some of the folks who have the deepest hate for the Movie, only really do because they went in with that attitude, and find themselves completely justified on the barest of evidence. They didn't for one moment give the movie an honest chance.

>>44387369
I'm... neutral towards them? I can honestly say I've only ever gone to see them because I was invited by friends. They're entertaining, but it's that special kind of mindless entertainment that really gets one's eyes rolling.

Their strength is dealing in the nature of the preexisting comic book metaverse, in which alternate universes are constantly being written and rewritten anyway, and zany quips while punching bad dudes in the face are just part of a regular day. They don't have to do much work beyond telling you what version of the already-written character and setting they're using this time around.

Star Wars isn't all that deep or thought-inspiring, but it generally had effort put into building and adding onto the story's universe in different ways. TFA goes backwards on that by copying the most recognizable elements of ANH and shoving any possible details about this future galaxy into places like a sentence or two of Hux's Nazi rally speech.

>>44387384
Motherfucker what do the words "fundamentally flawed" mean to you? Like I tell everyone who brings that argument up, not having the prequel trilogy's problems doesn't automatically make TFA a flawless movie.

But if you want to boil this down to banal literalism, I'll agree that "painfully mediocre" is strictly better than "bad".

I kind of wish era play was a thing.

As someone who wants to run mostly OT film stuff its annoying seeing people jump on newer things just because they are more powerful.

TFA was fun but I have basically zero interest in those ships in X-wing.

I don't like how later material flattened the L8-L9's "Jaw" things, I liked them at the 30 degree angle they look to be at here.
I do love their plasma blasts, the flamer parts are not super great but the raw plasma balls are awesome.

KotOR 2 is a lot of meta commentary on trying to map force morality to an RPG "Good points and bad points" scoring system.

It's also a broken game without mods.
>>
>>44387524

I know that feel bro. I love the OT Era because its classic, and it works great for any kinda game you want to do.

But everytime I offer to run a Star Wars game, the first thing people ask me is to run it in the KotOR\TOR era.

I hate saying no, but really, its annoying as hell

they were going to do that, having the resistance and first order be separate factions, but then realized that they had maybe 4 ships that they could use split between 2 factions and wanted to get in on the brand.

I kinda dig that actually - its one of the things I loved about ESB.

That isn't to say that I don't monstrously hate both games for making TotJ completely forgotten and buried

>>
>>44387547
Just gonna say, KOTOR era works surprisingly well in FFG Star Wars from what I've experienced of a campaign like that. The non-Force users have, in some cases, been better off than the Jedi of the group.

Hired Mandos attacked us on the streets of Coruscant one session. The Cathar Jedi got blasted off a roof when she attacked one trying to force a Mexican standoff with a thermal detonator, while the Hutt heavy used his sled to not only tank a missile tube hit, but return fire and vaporise the shooter. It's awesome.

Then later we fought a cyborg Hutt, and things would've gone exceptionally badly for our Jedi if the Chiss slicer hadn't conned him into thinking she was one of his hirelings before introducing a droid disabler pistol to his cybernetics.

Off the top of my head? For sheer entertainment value and being recent enough to recall off the top of my head, Pacific Rim. It didn't aspire to be anything other than giant robots punching giant monsters, and boy did it do a good job with that.

Anyway, how dare you suggest I'm presumptuous when clearly it's everyone else whose opinions are wrong, my preferences are objective ahuargeblghgr I've probably been exaggerating my dislike for the sake of discussion. TFA has its good parts, they just felt offset by what felt to me like crowded and overly referential writing particularly during the second half of the moive.

>Can a non-jedi safely disassemble a lightsaber?
It varies with the lightsaber and Jedi in question. A paranoid Jedi with spare time and parts might deliberately build an over-complicated monster of a saber that would be impossible for anyone but him to disassemble. Something old, personalized, and heavily modded would also probably be tricky to pull apart.

A mass-produced training saber would be pretty simple. Something based on familiar mundane parts, like a speeder bike handle or an arc welder, would also be easy to disassemble.

Hey /swg/, I had a question about the lore considering the DC-15A Blaster Rifle used by the Clone Troopers during the Clone Wars. Is that weapon still around during the times after the Battle of Yavin? I kind of want my Bounty Hunter in EotE to have one, I love the design.
>>

No reason why it shouldn't be - after all, Blastech made millions of them.

The only reason you don't see them a lot is because their inefficient in relation to more modern "lighter" blaster rifles.

it's like going Operating with an M1 garand, while all your buddies have tacticool M4's.

but its still a great design. If your using FFG, the Heavy Blaster Rifle fits perfect for a DC-15A

>what is the deal with [politics]?

Leia is leading space-ISIS against the remnants of the Empire with quiet backing from the Republic, who are officially at peace because 30+ years of war is more than most democracies can sustain. This is painfully obvious if you have even a rudimentary capacity for thought. The ex-empire knows this and just decides to kill their backers and financiers.

Yes, but it's less obvious if there's less of a gap.

If I were more autismal, I could argue that it shows that Han and Greedo are very similar, as both were ready to fire, but Han held back until he saw that Greedo was going to escalate to actually shooting, which would show us that Han is the sort of guy who doesn't start fights for no reason, and likes to see which way the wind is blowing before cashing in.

I think the issue is, is that Kylo has a character arc that's being set up where he's supposed to grow more powerful and maybe even become more disciplined. But the film doesn't make him really work on a stand-alone film sort of way so he's just kind of portrayed as weak and annoying right now. It's kind of the same with Rey right now. She's pretty powerful and there's hints she's been mind-wiped/locked, but as-is without an explanation, she's just this ridiculous force-using beast that's out-doing Luke at that age in terms of mastery of the force.
