I've told this story probably too many times on this
>Control player draws out practically his entire deck
>Ghostly Prison, various copies of Ghostly Prison, Norn's Annexes, Stormtide Leviathans, etc., clog his board
>his life total is in the 100s at least

>on the board, I only have this guy and I think a Goblin Bombardment
>it doesn't really matter, though, because control player has Eldrazi Monument out and is immune to wipes. My False Prophet had been removed earlier so there was no hope of drawing that.
>The only final survivor is a Naya Aggro player on his last breath
>Naya Aggro's board is pretty good, but not hot enough to last another turn vs. a full swipe via Control's army of indestructible Luminarch Ascension angels
>the angels attack. Naya player attempts to fog
>Control player shuffles through his hand (bigger than his library at this point) and plays Pact of Negation
>panic internally
>Naya player scoops to the guy who had won twenty turns earlier
>"Um, before you end your turn, I sacrifice Bearer of the Heavens. Deal 1 damage to you and destroy all permanents."
>Control guy leans over to read the card
>frowns, raises his eyebrows
>draws a few cards
>draws a few more cards
>looks at Bearer again, reads the cards he drew
>all permanents are destroyed except his creatures, I have no creatures in play
>on his upkeep he loses the game to being unable to pay the Pact
it was a pretty great win but I still worry sometimes that he secretly had a Stifle in hand and just didn't play it because he felt bad for me, although he claimed after that he couldn't have stopped it

You should just activate Vial and then say "response?" It's a may trigger and they won't know what is entering until they allow it to resolve so you don't have to announce what goes in until then. They can still search your hand and your graveyard for the named card with Slaughter Games but not your library. So yes it does work but only partially, you only need it to stop them from removing the cards you need in your deck. Most of the time i'm siding in an alt win condition anyway so if I don't have Shadow of Doubt in hand then I still got an out.

Don't you need more than 10 poison counters to win in EDH? Or is that only 2HG?
>>
>>44389614
15 in 2HG.
No additional rules for EDH so 10 counters until further notice. Some groups houserule it, but besides the tainted strike cheap kills, infect is hard enough to pull off, and in those cases it's more often that TS is the problem instead of the number of poison counters. Ten is good for me.
>>
>>44389684
Technically, there's three real infect cards in EDH:

-Tainted Strike
-Blightsteel Colossus
-Triumph of the Hordes

I definitely think infect is fine at 10, though Blightsteel Colossus is a little silly sometimes.
>>
>>44389705
True, I run Thriumph in my Titania deck, and it's pretty funny.

But as a sorcery, and Blightsteel as a creature, they're either very transparant or need additional cards to pull off a win.

Tainted Strike gets even more wins out of nowhere, through people not blocking light threats which suddenly turn into auto-kills for instance.

On the other hand, EDH has a bunch of those type of silly cards, so I don't really mind.

>>
>>44390301

Storm is a triggered ability when on the stack. When the triggered ability is allowed to resolve it creates multiple copies of the spell ala Storm. However you have a chance to respond to the Storm trigger and can thus counter its activated ability.
>>
>>44390408

You don't want to own one IRL. For one thing, maintenance like sleeving would be a nightmare, as would keeping up with a list. Plus, unless you use the WOTC list, you'd have a huge advantage since you know what's in it and your friends don't. Also, shuffling is extremely non-trivial when you want 360 random cards in random piles from a list of 540 or whatever it is. Online is the perfect frame for cube shenanigans.

That feeling when you see a card wheel over and over again in draft and then one day you build a deck that abuses the hell out of it. New respect for Birthing Pod.

I'll never understand salt like this.

Like, bitch you're playing a T1 modern deck. You should expect "bullshit" cards in modern. Especially when you're playing a lot of "bullshit" cards yourself.

Bullshit as in "Huh that card is strong compared to most other cards."

When my buddy was just learning how to play magic he did this to some guy we didnt like, and I didnt say a word

Don't have it on hand, and I can't remember the exact card numbers. Also I don't have it on Deckstats oddly, but it mostly revolves around using Parallel lives to duplicate token drops.

Call of the Herd, Elephant Ambush, Kazandu Tuskcaller are my 3 Elephant token producers. First two are great with Flashback, and Tuskcaller is a sustainable source of Ivory.
I use Garruk, Primal Hunter because he was the first decent card I ever got and I'm a sucker for nostalgia, plus his tokens are duplicated too.

Garruk's Packleader's there for card draw whenever I get a token, and my two Steely Resolve helps to avoid people hitting my Tuskcallers and Elephants if I can get them both down.

Loxodon Smiters are there for awesome efficiency, and I use Predatory Rampage for the sheer awesomeness of completely wrecking their face with a board full of 6/6 Elephants.

Deck was mostly made by a friend of mine. Cool guy.

I think you confused some things, not that his story is true, but:

He is second, "on the draw." So his opponent plays an Island and passes. He draws, plays a forest, casts Noble Hierarch for one green. His opponent casts Spell Pierce, the Hierarch fizzles. Then the shenanigans begin.
>>
>>44406511
There is no U 1CMC counterspell which can counter a Noble Heirarch that is legal in Modern. Spell Pierce does not work.
>>
>>44406735
Enchatments, Instants, and Sorceries only. Nice try though! There is a single spell which does for one mana in Modern but it's not blue, I did my research on this one.
>>
>>44402470
Not many decks have more than 3 of any basic land anyway, kind of a lot of work to try and mana screw someone when blood moon is usually just way easier and just is one card.

Maybe it was Mana Tithe.

When you open a booster pack a friend gifted you and you find your first planeswalker. It's pic. Is it relatively good?
>>
>>44408473
Short answer is yes, it's playable in multiple formats (albeit in fringe Modern and Legacy decks) and is worth in the region of $35
>>
>>44408473
its powerful but you can't just slap it in any deck. 8 mana is a bitch even when its generic. I recomend some green rampy eldrazi type shit. trons crop rotations ulamog ect. just google eldrazi ramp.

hol' up
>>
>>44408731
R/G versions of Tron don't play it, or if they do it's only 1 copy but they usually don't. The Tron variant that plays it is Mono-U Tron, a fringe deck. Get good at Modern.
>>
>>44409024
all versions run 1 copy, a lot of them run 2 copies

Ok I take it back somewhat, most lists do seem to be running 1-2 these days, my bad.

legacy finally makes sense
>>
>>44409387
If it actually did that then they would play more, the thing is that it's mediocre vs Affinity (already a tough matchup) and comes down a turn later than Karn, I mean it's clearly a great card but it's 100% cuttable and is not a cornerstone card of the archetype by any means, especially when they already run 6-8 board wipes maindeck. The issue is that it's win-more and best against the decks that you're already way ahead of (Jund, Abzan Company etc).

As someone who lost playing for top 8 of a recent Modern RPTQ, I can confirm that I indeed need to 'git gud'.

>>44409600
>100% cuttable and is not a cornerstone card of the archetype by any means
This is true.
>it's win-more and best against the decks that you're already way ahead of
Hol up. I've lost count of how many times Ugin, The Pernicious Deed has exiled a board full of fuck-you, paving the way to victory.

Snap-countered means countered instantly without thought, not countered via snapcaster mage.
>>
>>44409834
Ok that spoiler made me laugh hard enough to concede the point, good work.

As a side note, you hyped for Kozilek's Return? Seems like a pretty solid upgrade to 'clasm for the R/G Tron decks!
>>
>>44409943
>Kozilek's Return
Unfortunately it boils down to a more expensive pyroclasm. The instant speed is largely meaningless and the eldrazi rider doesn't mean much when the power of the cards you cast should already be enough to put the game in your favor. The best part is Devoid. Alas, the ability to dig it out with stirrings does very little for it's playability. At best, potential sideboard tech against affinity is my assessment.

Still, I'm pretty hype for the second set. I want just one more toy for tron. Just one more and I'll forgive wizards for the expedition bullshit.
>>
>>44410199
>Largely meaningless

Damn son are infect and affinity non-existant in your meta? Hitting Inky and Blinky Nexus is huge, not to mention actually getting rid of Etched Champion.

With the resurgence of Naya Zoo/Company decks I have to say that there are occasions where the 'flashback' will be relevant, though admittedly not a huge number.

Also I think you underestimmate being able to hit it off Stirrings.
>>
>>44410370
You bring up a good point. Infect is largely absent in my meta. However I would like to point out that Ghost Quarter is 2-of in many lists including my own. Map already reads 3 - destroy target Inkmoth. I still think it's sideboard tech at best. Etched champion has never been a great concern to me. Pyroclasm is the only thing in my deck that can't touch him. Even Ugin can bolt him. Everything else that isn't Master of Etherium or Arcbound Ravager dies to pyroclasm. I don't mean to make the match sound easy. It isn't, but it just isn't helped by K's Return.
