Traviss is primarily known for fucking up some Star Wars novels, but she also fucked up the Halo canon in the novels as well as some of the Gears of War stuff.
She's a mediocre writer who jumps into projects without doing a lot of background studying. When she started in on writing for Star Wars for the Republic Commando novels, all she knew was that the clones were a race of men bred only to fight and die, and got it into her head that the Jedi were the elite genetic supremacists of the Republic. She'd later go on to say that every single Jedi deserved to die, even the children, for being 'elitist spoon benders', and that the only ones who deserved to live were her two creations. One of whom left the Jedi Order to live with the Mandalorians, and another who fell in love with a Mandalorian, decided that her sole purpose in life was to have his babies, and got herself killed by taking a lightsaber to the chest when she tried to save a clone from a Padawan during Order 66.
She'd go on to build up the Mandalorians as the ultimate warrior race, who could effortlessly stomp Sith and Jedi alike without any trouble, and even invented a cutesy little language for them.
Oh, and she killed Mara Jade without telling Timothy Zahn about it. And she made it canon that there were only ever 3 million clone troopers.
Halo-wise, probably her biggest sin was how badly she shit on Doctor Halsey, turning her from a morally ambiguous savior of humanity to a raging sociopathic turbocunt who everyone absolutely despises.
