So how bout that super death star
>>44329462
I want to stick my dick in it.
[trollish movie rankings]
>>44329462
To quote a different fandom, the theoretical principles were sound. I can't fathom why First Order thought it would be a great idea, seeing how first two Death Stars ended up. Are they just so big Empire fanboys, or did they think third time's a charm?
Still, that visuals when it fired for the first time were really cool.
>>44329503
Indeed. What botherred me the most was that people on other planets in other systems could see it when fired. Wasnt it ftl and in a different part of the galaxy?
>>44329462
>another gigantic superweapon that destroys planets, but is giganticer and destroys harder
fucking WHY
>>44329327
You gave me a very bad idea
>>44329543
You would think they would want to kill everyone without destroying the planet. Planets are valuable! Why not launch nanobots at them? Or plagues?
>>44329528
If the beam was moving in FTL, perhaps its light was moving in FTL towards other planets as well?
>>44329543
It's the DBZ effect. Roshi could destroy the moon, king piccolo could destroy the planet, vegeta could destroy it harder, frieza could destroy planets even HARDER and so forth.
has anyone thought about the possibility that the rotating senate capital thing was actually thought up as a counter to planet-killers?
if somebody had one, targeting the capital is a logical plan. so if the capital is on bubba VIV rather than planet that people would actually miss, like coursicant, your important military/industrial/bureaucratic centers remain intact even if the senate gets toasted
>>44329583
heh.
>>44329617
Huh. Haven't thought of that, but makes sense to me.
>>44329503
>>44329543
If they put me in charge of Imperial R&D, the name of the game would be developing a planet-destroying munition that could simply be fitted onto any given capital ship in the fleet. It's been very obvious that having a single basket to put all your genocidal eggs in is prone to failure, so why not spread that power out across hundreds of smaller ships?
>>44329587
>Planets are valuable! Why not launch nanobots at them? Or plagues?
because star wars doesn't do nanomasheens, you double /epg/er
and plagues are out because contrary to other sci-fi, building a proper civilization-killing bug is really fucking hard and would almost certainly backfire horribly
>they don't just attach hyperdrive thrusters to pre-existing planetoids and then crash them into targets
>>44329543
Because you don't stop building aircraft carriers because a few planes blow yours up.
You make them cheaper. By just puttibg the gun into an existing planet, and making your first shot the most important.
First Order won. They destroyed the New Republic leadership.
Its like if Luke blew up the Death Star after it blew up Yavin.
>>44329686
>Not making Asteroids blind jump through planets.
barbarian.
>>44329648
Ah, you see, but the thing is, the First Order is run by the Sith, and if my EU-fu doesn't mislead me, the Sith are big on huge, overblown shows of power that have little practical purpose.
Just look at Snokepffff that namehologramming with Kylo Ren. Was a ten metres tall hologram and hiding in shadows REALLY necessary? Now, but it's a good show of might and power he supposedly wields. The Starkiller is just the same.
If you think of Sith as being less of reasonable people and more of rabid attention seekers and showmen, the "logic" they apply suddenly starts to make much more sense.
>>44329707
That doesn't work it only kills the asteroid.
>>44329503
They did blow up the capitol of the Republic, the republic fleet, and the senate. Seems like it could've worked out worse for them.
>>44329764
True enough.
>>44329543
The better question is why didn't the NO have anybody watching for a counter attack after they fired it.
Ren's bitch fits are the best
>>44329462
Still pales in comparison to the power of The Force
>>44329758
note the 'Asteroids' Plural, simply line all of them up around a planet and jump them through it.
Are there dogs in Star Wars?
>>44329583
I am saving this image to my hard drive
i am driving so hard on this
>>44329649
>/epg/er
What is this?
I dont know about everything in the setting but I do know they have tech to engineer a virus. Or use sith space sorcery to warp an existing one. Hell even setting a few fires would work really well in most of the city planets.
>>44329757
But see, there's a difference between flamboyant displays and just using the exact stratagem over and over despite the fact that it never works out. I'm not questioning the notion of a giant planet-destroyer in a fundamental sense, I'm questioning the notion of building them over and over again despite the fact that they never get off a second shot. Are they ever going to consider a different way of achieving shock and awe? You'd think, at some point, the galactic public just isn't even surprised by that shit anymore.
Also, unless I'm mistaken, I thought the First Order wasn't run by Sith at all. Rather, it's a new group of force-sensitive megalomaniacs.
>>44329757
I thought that was the idea more or less from the start. That's why Malak has Taris destroyed for the lulz and shit like that or why Kreia is trying to 'kill the Force'.
>tfw you wonder how you'd play a showman Jedi
I'm thinking something like a snakeoil salesman or a broadcast faithhealer. But that's obviously a cover during the dark times.
>>44329829
Do you want them to be?
>>44329810
And it does nothing.
>>44329914
>>44329810
Or just drop them from orbit. Enough of that and you are gold.
This is actually a weapon in swtor.
>>44329893
Yes. I want dogs in fighter ships.
I also want dogs to know the ways of the force.
>>44329980
So this?
>>44329980
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Canines

>>44330003
Yes, but also dark side dogs too.
>>44329764
>they did blow up the Republic fleet
>the one that they never show us
I hope the utter lack of naval action beyond le action packed TIE escape in TFA was just J.J.'s "signature style" taking precedence, because I want some goddamn capital v. capital fights.
Sheev forbid they slow the pacing of 8 or 9 enough to convey fleet action.
>>44329503
>>44329543
I dont mind the whole super weapon thing, but I think reason people are bashing it is because it's THE SAME superweapon everytime.
What are some ideas for super weapons that doesnt including blowing up planets or suns?
>>44329980
>>44330047
Dog pilots would be great.
Dog Jedi tooDog Sith the result of abuse because no dog is born evil
>>44330176
Neutrino beam spam. Kill all life but leave all stuff perfectly safe for use.
>>44330176
Something smallier or sneakier. A stealth ship, perhaps.
>>44330176
What else would it be? If we look at our super weapons we've got:
Very large destructive bomb
Even larger destructive bomb
Chemically based destructive bomb
Large destructive virus bomb
Very radioactive destructive bomb
>>44330224
>>44330229
A stealth ship with a neutrino beam?
Like, it jumps out of hyperspace cloaked, then when its fully charged it releases a beam that obliterates all organic life.
But then, it is vulnerable for twenty minutes. The perfect time for a rag tag team of ace pilots to swoop in...
>>44330263
Fair enough. I mean once it shoots everyone on the ground is dead of radiation poisoning.
Could make it small enough to make more than one.
>>44329764
and in doing so royally pissed them off pearl harbor style, and insured they will all hang after the inevitable war crimes trials at the end of this conflict
>>44330156
I hope so as well. Hell they barely showed the new star destroyer and just one. Wouldn't the First Order have s fleet at least pstroling Round their fucking super weapon.
>>44330323
They who? All the leaders of the Republic are dead.

fuck off with the "rocks fall everybody dies" shit. it's the goddamn cancer of sci-fi
>>44330365
It is now led by leia. Its a dictatorship again. Go republic.
Any idea if Imperial Assault will receive a Force Awakens themed expansion?
>>44329439
Lets say I'm looking to start a new SW Campaign. I've ruled out WEG as the system I want to run it with, but I'm not sure whether I want to use FFG or Saga.
Is there any real reason to use one over the other? Both have a decent sized collection of content at this point.
It it's at all relevant, it would likely be an Old Republic campaign of some kind.
>>44330383
I dont really care how much it bothers you it is an actual weapon in swtor. It hurls asteroids at planets.
Nanobots are scifi doom aeapons because they could theoretically replicate without end till you turn them off. If programmed right you could evem use them to target specific targets.
Honestly calm down.
>>44329973
Any planet actually worth going through all the effort to set up a colony drop against has enough ground to orbit weapons to smash any attempt. You basically have to destroy the mobile fleets, the orbital battle platforms, the defensive shield(s), and suppress the surface to orbit turbolaser platforms and missile batteries long enough to do it. And honestly, if you have the forces to do that, you probably have enough forces to just take it the old fashioned way.

>Nanobots are scifi doom aeapons because they could theoretically replicate without end till you turn them off
that's called a von neumann machine and it's pretty soft sci-fi especially as nanotech
it's just as much a silly magic superweapon as the death star, and it doesn't even remotely fit with star war's style
>>44329528
>>44329596
Pablo has agreed with my weird hyperspacial lensing explanation.
>>44329649
Uh, yes they do. Explosive nanodroids. Look it up.
>>44329649

>>44330533

>>44330456
FFG's system hangs together much better in my opinion. Some hate the Jon standard dice-- I love them.
>>44330572
Don't bother, he'll just whinge about it being in Legends material and thus no longer canon, as if Disney's approval is the only thing that matters.

No, Anon. No, they don't.
>>44330637

How about we make giant lightsabers and put them on our fighters?
>>44330637

>>44330641
>>44330660

>>44330670

>>44330572
>>44330600
>>44330656
but none of those things are the grey goo planet killers that anon was talking about in the first place
>>44330660
That's actually what the Death Star is, canonically.
The superlaser is arranged around a kyber crystal array.
>>44330406
Hasn't been said, but given each thing is given specific time frames to work with; probably. It'd likely have to be a pretty big deluxe expansion though since a good amount of stuff might not fit into whatever time frame numbers they give Sequel Trilogy stuff. At least not without errata/them saying "just use these figures but use these new cards."
>>44330698
But hes in space.
If anything this makes me think its a great idea.
>>44330698
That should rip his hand off.

>>44330641
Oh, hey, I guessed right. Who would have thought. All hail Disney, the true arbiters of Star Wars Canon material.
>>44330656

>Look at me, I'm causing minimal damage to this giant goddamn ship because my lightsaber is three feet long and I'm putting maybe a foot of it into the armor plating

>>44330744
Kylo Ren's Resurgent-class Star Destroyer does in fact have kyber crystal based turbolasers.
>>44330679
>>44330698
...so why WOULDN'T this work? Of course you'd need a fucking massive sword to actually make THOSE cuts, but does anything stop, well let's do it here, what stops an idiot from riding a ship and using a lightsabre to knock the heads off of mailboxes? aka Star fucking Destroyers, what
>>44330737
Disney canon is just as fucking retarded. The only canon material are the live-action films because those are the things the future films will ever reference.
Nothing else ever happened and is basically just fanfiction.
>>44330626
I have skimmed SWSE, and played 7-8 sessions of FFGSW (nobody used force powers though).
I don't have any hatred (irrational or otherwise) for the core of the d20 mechanic, nor the use of funny dice, though the funny dice may make homebrewing some of the GM content more tricky.
I'm mostly looking for some tips from people who have actually played both.
Alright, I'll try to be more specific.
>>44330631
>FFG's system hangs together much better in my opinion.
Any kind of examples?
Does SWSE offer anything that might make for a better gameplay experience? Does FFGSW? What might those things be?
Are there certain types of campaigns that either one does better?
How well does either system handle mixed groups of force users and non force users?
Are there any noteworthy starwars concepts that are available in one system but not in the other?
So, aside from the Rogue Squadron Novels, what else is recommended reading from the Old EU?
>>44330641
>Appearances
>Star Wars: The Clone Wars – "Deception"
It's canon
>>44330767
Because lightsabers cannot actually trivially go through shields.
>>44330792
Need bigger lighsabers then.
>>44330767
Lightsabers do not cut through everything in a flash as exemplified by the blast door cutting in Episode I.
>>44330784
anything by zahn and anything with han solo in the name
>>44330792
Makes sense. Answer something else for me.
>>44330764
So wait what, now lightsaber tech can be used for other weapons? Which makes sense I guess, it's just some magic crystal or whatever, just seems weird. Do any walking weapons use them as well? Besides the obvious sabre.
>>44330827
Including Outbound Flight?
>>44330774
>this delusion
>>44330767
Remember how Qui-Gon had a bitch of a time cutting through normal doors, let-alone blast doors? You'd basically get taken with the saber because it couldn't melt the hull fast enough. At best you could graffiti the fuck out of the ship.
>>44330456
Depends on what combat style you want. Saga is pretty much D&D 4th Edition. So, more of a focus on tactical grid based combat. Where as FFG uses a more narrative system.
There is an actual Old Republic supplement for Saga. But, I played in a Fantasy Flight Star Wars game set in the Old Republic and it worked out fine. So, I think it will probably come down to which of those combat systems you would prefer.
>>44330829
A couple well placed lightsabers would really help walkers not get tripped by cables.
>>44330829
No, no, kyber crystals naturally amplify any energy that pass through them, but you can't just make big lightsabers out of them because they need to be attuned at an atomic level via the Force for that.
The Sith and the Jedi used giant kyber crystals as superweapons in their wars millenia ago. The Death Star is in fact a throwback to that.
>>44330851
>>44330838
I guess my brain was telling me "well high speeds and a ship-sized blade attached might just rip through"
I guess it was weird to always see sabers in the original treated as these sort of all-cleaving nearly mythic weapons of limited use, but then have hard limits suddenly pop up in odd places.
How come nobody uses a lightsaber polearm?
>>44330207
>>44330836
it's actually reasonably decent, though not as good as the others
so yeah, read it
How do you build her in SWSE?
>>44330878
Soooo... how did they get them to work for the giant ass Death Star? Unless you mean more, if we use RPG terms, you need some ultra-quality personally worked very expensive and specific gem that will take the Force and actually make a working saber, but regular crystals can be used all the time for basic amplification stuff?
>>44330885
I do believe Jedi temple guards used them. If you're asking why nobody really uses them in the movies, who knows. Maybe the film makers just think they wouldn't make as interesting fights.
>>44330703
>I just can't fucking stand you EUtists constantly bringing up shit that never happened.
Not that Guy, but some people give 0 shits about the new Disney canon.
Most of the StarWars content I like is set before 32 BBY (Phantom Menace) (Primarily Old Republic stuff). If I'm talking about Star Wars, I'm almost definitely talking about "Legends" content for that reason alone.
But even if I'm talking about stuff set later; why would I give any fucks if Disney has republished/referenced it since they took over Star Wars? All that matters to me is that it's content I like/consider to be good, and that it somehow ties into the other star wars content available.
Maybe I'll pay more attention to Disney Canon when it's not a vacuum with only a couple of items in it, spanning only three consecutive generations of closely related characters.
>>44330878
That sounds incredibly stupid, but I'll deal with it because that's apparently the road we're taking now with canon.
>>44330885
They do. They don't use them as main character movie weapons because they're not as cool as the whole Sword Of Light zen fencer thing going on.
>>44329439
>Guy watches The Force Awakens
>Goes into next showing
>Opening night
>Screams major spoiler right as the opening scroll starts
>Gets the shit beat out of him By the crowd
Justice still exists
>>44330933
They just used doubles
>>44330949
They always had the ability to make the red crystals in bulk. Its why many sith use red its super easy to get ahold of.
>>44330968
Is this something that actually happened?
>>44330774
So, apparently, every on screen character just stops existing at the end of every movie, and they pop back into reality only at the start of each new one?
That's a very "Guildenstern and Rosencrantz are dead"esque theory you've got there, anon.
So how did notvader stop a laser beam mid flight and hold it in timestop? He was kinda weak in all his other force powers from what I could tell from the rest of the movie.
>>44330257
Mandalores in the KOTOR comics liked using Nukes, seems like a pretty effective strategy.
>>44330975
>>44330987
why are there so many fucking colors
I thought it was a symbolic thing, a simple colors and themes of three thing, blue is model citizen, red is baby murder, green is someone who's finally figured out how to keep their shit together from either extreme and becausethat green looks DEAD SEX FUCK with the black of Luke's duds there
apparently it's goddamn literal rainbows and skittles collector packs out there
>>44331014
It's a blaster bolt, which is a plasma weapon.
I do agree that it's bullshit though.
>>44331014
he was actually clenching his ass exceptionally hard throughout that entire scene
being a dark jedi is all about that fake it til you make it biz
>>44330949
Not really, I mean they always had the ability to make artificial ones. I imagine you just need to build a compression forge or whatever big enough.
>>44331031
Nope, the only canon colors are blue, green, red, black and purple.
In the EU, it's significantly bigger.
>>44331031
Because mace windu was going to have a regular saber but his acter wanted purple. Not even joking.
>>44331039
It looked real cool and scary. That's why. God why does every single detail have to be bullshit or not? Why do we have to check his sheet to see if his Force score was high enough? You'd do the same thing in a game with some evil TK user and some PC or whatever shot at them.
>>44331014
>He was kinda weak in all his other force powers from what I could tell from the rest of the movie.
Didn't really get that impression. The only times he failed was information extraction.
>>44330865
>What combat style you want
Is that basically the only meaningful difference, just a different gameplay focus/style?
When we played FFGSW we still used a grid, and the GM just gave a conversion number for squares=range bands.
My main concerns are >>44330779
>Are there certain types of campaigns that either one does better?
>How well does either system handle mixed groups of force users and non force users?
>Are there any noteworthy starwars concepts that are available in one system but not in the other?
>>44331062
this >>44330975 is canon
>>44330949
It's not stupid. It lends myth and scale to the Death Star and the ancient wars of the Sith and the Jedi.
To be clear, the kyber crystals were CORES of ancient Force superweapons, Jedi didn't just carry big ones around.
>>44330932
They amplify everything, but if you try to make a stable feedback loop like in a lightsaber, they overheat and explode without Force tuning. Obi-wan blew a hole through a cruiser with a blaster bolt amplified by a giant kyber crystal.
They'll overheat and explode if you overuse them too. Anakin and Obi-wan destroyed an entire Separatist fleet by doing so.
The Death Star had a giant crystal for each tributary laser in its superlaser.
>>44330885
Darth Bane has a lightpike.
>>44331062
>>44331074
I can't tell Sam no, so that's fine by me. He wants a purple saber, he gets one.
Black? BLACK? The hell are black sabers? God please tell me they're not wielded by some group of Sith or Dark Jedi so bad and edgy that normal Sith hate them or whatever.
>>44331014
Is it such a step up from Vader just stoping boots with his hand?
If they had the technology when making V I bet they would have had them stop them in midair.
>>44331093
Oh, right.
So yellow too then.
Eh, saber colors have never been a big deal for me.
>>44331055
>>44330987
Artificial crystals aren't presented in the new canon, I'm afraid. They need to be mined.
>>44331079
Bullets arent plasma.
>>44331107
Darksaber (no, not the one where Madine dies for no reason)
>>44331107
>http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darksaber_(lightsaber)
Nope, just an ancient Jedi weapon.
>>44331112
>>44331093
White is also a canon color now.
>>44331112
I guess I was confused, and also sort of disappointed I guess. When I saw the originals as a kid it always stuck with me as this cool detail that didn't need to be explained, the sabers seemed more like these strange half-myth blades of ultratech of which there were like none, and so each one or its color had some symbolic meaning.
Then I see prequels and there's fucking tons of them and every shade there is and it was thoroughly explained and categorized and just confused the fuck outta me
>>44330779
SWSE doesn't offer much past the d20 paradigm. If you've played a d20 you've played this-- in that regard it has the advantage if you aren't looking to step out of your comfort zone. FFG's game is built to mechanically incentivize cinematic play. The Advanrage/Threat axis on rolls is simple but impactful when you want to do something near with the narrative. While nothing is stopping you from introducing that second axis in SWSE it is a big ahell having it hard coded into the system. Beyond that FFG's game steps past just killing or talking. Players can and will be a lot more diverse without rigid Class structure.
Currently in a game with Force users and non. The Force guy is really good at his Force stuff-- but he can't outfly the pilot or outgun the Bounty Hunter. It works well.
There you have it. I cut my teeth on SWSE but haven't returned to it since I started FFG.
>>44331115
Likes green saber used an artificial crystal
>>44330987
No no, I mean this whole 'kyber magic crystal' thing where the Death Star is apparently powered by the dark side or something weird. I, personally, don't like it. Do I have a say in it? No. Can I change it? No. Do I own even the smallest fraction of the franchise? No.
I just don't like it and I'm going to be a stick in the mud about it for a long time.
>>44331031
Well, it began as a symbol thing with the bad guy having red and the good guy having blue.
Then green got introduced because having a blue saber against a blue sky looks REALLY bad on fx shots, so they changed it. This made other people think 'oh, you can have other colors' which is where a whole lot of your 'goddamn literal rainbows' comes from where people reason 'well it's a LIGHTsaber and light comes in a bunch of colors so...'.
Then George comes and no-funs everyone and says 'NO. BLUE GREEN AND RED" And then Samuel L Jackson says "I want a purple saber because that's my favorite color and I want to find myself in crowd scenes." So there's now blue, green, purple, and red.
Then TCW has yellow and black, which is also canon so now we have blue, green, purple, yellow, black and red.
And I bet you half a dollar that someone's going to say 'well you know, they're LIGHTsabers...."
And then we'll have orange again.

Could be an extension of general telekinesis. Might be some advanced form of protect. Probably wasn't a full-on timestop-type thing. And the film shows that while he's very innately powerful, he has no discipline and is internally conflicted which can make it hard to tap into either the normal/light side of the force or the dark side.
>>44331183
>Then green got introduced because having a blue saber against a blue sky looks REALLY bad on fx shots, so they changed it
Haha. And there I thought it was meant to be symbolic of Luke's acceptance of Light and Dark and sort of settling into a pathless master sort of thing.

>The only canon material are the live-action films because those are the things the future films will ever reference.
Interesting argument. You're saying what counts as canon within the movies is the other movies, and that's all that matters; - but regardless of whether that statement is technically correct, I have doubts regarding its relevance.
For example:
What about when I'm watching a future Star Wars Animated TV show, playing a Star Wars Game, or reading a Star Wars Comic? What if the thing I'm watching specifically does not feature the characters from the live action movies?
>>What counts as canon for that context, anon? Because that's the only context I give a shit about.

>>44331215
Yes anon, but I saw the metric loads of sabers, and the purple one, and then I recall seeing orange and yellow in other media, and even heard of an actual rainbow one in some thread, and so my confusion has been more of a gradual thing over the years that I didn't have much of a reason to ask about until now.

A lava crystal was a lightsaber crystal that could only be found on volcanic planets and moons such as Mustafar. It generated a blade that resembled lava. The crystal itself was less focused and concentrated than normal crystals, therefore lava itself was generated from the extreme heat of the dense, heavy blade, creating bits of flame and sometimes splashed and dripped out from the blade itself. This crystal was rumored to be very powerful.

I figure the d20 is more likely to include more obscure stuff that isn't common Jedi/Sith powers, like force mystic stuff, or the nightsisters abilities, or what have you.
>It's possible to mix them, and they are like any other wizards. Weak at the start but insanely powerful after a few games.

>>44331578
Okay.
Dark Forces was the first Star Wars video game where you aren't playing a Jedi. It was basically Doom, Kyle Katarn is Doomguy. As an ex-Stormtrooper Rebel agent.
He stole part of the Death Star plans then set out on a course of action that lead him to take on a literal army of the Empire's best by infiltrating everything from Jabba's yacht to the Emperor's palace to the Executor.
Then after a shitload of more games he became a Jedi in Luke's Academy, one of the first along with a female Mon Calamari and an ex-Imperial assassin who became Luke's wife.
Kyle is about as god tier as it gets. Fucker punched a Krayt Dragon to death and basically kills everything that shoots at him without fail.

The continuity of materials that are explicitly NOT the movies.
>Continuity doesn't matter
You seem pretty buttblasted over something you think doesn't matter.
>the EU was full of contradictory material anyway
Which is why the contradictory EU stuff was not considered canon.
Granted, ideally contradictory materials would be fixed before being published.
> It's non-canon and none of it has anything to do with the films
Why does that matter?
>Because the films will never reference it and nobody in a fanfiction work will appear in any of the movies coming out.
But the other new materials you aren't interested in may well reference those events or characters. The only reason one might want to track Canon at all would be if there was actually stuff to keep track of. If you can't keep 7 movies in chronological order straight, you'd have to be a retard.
>So continuity has no relevance whatsoever.
Relevance to what? The movies? I fail to see how that matters, it's not like there's very many of them, it's not the MCU, which has several movie series, and now a handful of TV shows, which all tie in together.
What about relevance to the comics/novels/games? Because that would be the relevance I might actually be interested in, because the vast majority of the Star Wars content I'm going to look at in the next 30 years is not going to be the live action movies.

Battle Meditation, Bind (Choke/Stasis), Enhance (Force Speed), Foresee, Foresight, Heal, Harm (Force Drain), Influence (Mind Trick), Misdirect (Mind Trick), Move, Protect, Unleash (Lightning), Seek, Sense, Supress
Basically everything seen in the movies, and then some from the EU. And they seem to be adding new powers every career book.
>So force adepts will drastically outshine the mundanes in FFG as well?
Depends. Either a force-user will min-max and be really good at a couple of force powers and probably shit at everything else, or they'll spread themselves out more, and be mediocre at their force powers but be slightly more competent in everything else. Basically it takes a ton of experience/sessions until force sensitives will start to really shine, but by that point, normal characters will have likely mastered one or two different things by that point.

Extra meaning has always been fan fiction/speculation as far as I've ever come across.
>>44331905
Right now, the only reason colors are different are because of personality tests. Basically Ahsoka's is white because she's more general force-sensitive and not trying to closely follow the Jedi ways and shit. Legends, it was a combination of personality tests and different crystals coming from different places, and so different traits.
The black Darksaber is just a prototype lightsaber. Think of it as having that shape because it was a transition from swords to normal lightsabers. The more pointy ones you see in the CGI show screenshots are just stylistic choices; if it was live-action, it'd look like a normal movie version round lightsaber.
>>44331768

It's been argued other people can't use them effectively a few times, but there are tons of examples of non-force wielders using lightsabers.
The precursor to lightsabers in the EU, (designed by the Rakata for their slaves to use), uses the wielder's dark side force strength as its power source; but the ones in use by the time of the old republic are powered by power cells instead.

The exact details vary, but ultimately it comes down to getting stronger because you can.
As much as people rag on it, SWTOR provides quite a diverse amount of sith, from uncomplicated tryhard "I'm better than you because I kill more" as demonstrated by Thana Vesh, to the "Just because we're the bad guys doesn't mean we have to be complete assholes" as demonstrated by Emperor Malgus when he started up a new Empire that, among other things, wasn't pointlessly racist against nonhumans.
