I want to get into wargaming but I'm not interested in miniatures at all.
What can I do? Can I play miniature based games with something else?

No, it's illegal.

Hex maps and cardboard chits, like they did back in the 70s.

It's almost as expensive as miniatures, but at least you don't have to paint anything.

You could actually use cardboard chits and a paper map with any miniatures rule set. It'd take some small amount of jury-rigging, but it's doable.

I dunno. $50 in 1982 for a table-sized map board and a couple hundred counters. Maybe it's gotten better these days?

Beside 40K what should I get into? Sell me your favorite game.
How do I introduce my magical realm into a wargame?

I should not worry about that, I will be playing online anyway

note that Little Wars doesn't use dice to work out to-hit, but rather uses small gun powder charges and miniture shot firing cannons that you physically have to hit things with to take out opposing armies.

I'm aware of that, just posted that pic because Little Wars started the hobby.
I should had used something Advance wars related.

try Summoner Wars, it's basically a wargame but with cards. There's an app version if you wanna try it for free before buying.

Heroes of Normandie is a wargame that uses little cards. Works pretty well.
>>
>>44327381
That sounds rather cool. And expensive. Like only a real manchild could play.

What miniature wargame do you think you can get into for $50? Even the cheap ones are ~$100.
>>
>>44334589
I've tried little wars before, just get small nerf guns or the lego cannons

I've heard of this thing called matrix games that's basically a series of logical arguments that sounds pretty neat, but I don't know shit about the concept outside of this: https://paxsims.wordpress.com/2014/09/20/review-matrix-games-for-modern-wargaming/

Play Battletech
Use counters instead of minis
