whats the best hobby snow to buy?
Ive been trying the pva glue, white paint, baking soda mixture but every time i apply it it turns yellow within a month due to the weather.
>>44297450
4ground has very good snow
>>44297450
gw snow is a rip, get model train snow, the best way to apply snow is to mix some snow with white glue and make a paste, apply this to the base and then dip the base in the snow, it makes it look way more realistic than just straight up snow on glue
Decided to try out that volcanic base thing Duncan did on warhammer tv n the base for my knight. Stoked with the results, super happy with how it's turned out
>>44297588
Looks really great.
>>44297588
I wonder if it would be possible to create some kind of icy river with that technique and blue/grey/white paint
>>44297740
Works exactly the same, just need a lighter colour of crackle paint or you could use Vallejo crackle medium (which does the same thing, but you can mix in any colour).
>>44297588
I think I'll magnetize the base so I can take him off, he's just siting free on it at the moment. Next is finishing the armour plates, then doing the decals and weathering him up
>>44297776
I think i'll try that.
What's the best green to edge highlight dark angels with?
>>44297796
after it dries i would probably throw in some water effects or gloss varnish to make it look like actual water
>>44297914
If you just want to do basic highlights: Warstone Glow for broad and Moot Green for edge highlights.
>>44289825
Nawww man, nawww. Those tentacle scroll looking things look rubbish. The idea is good but the execution is just poor.
>>44298120
I think they're meant to be robes of some sort
I used pic related to varnish one of my minis and now its glossy like if it was wet from the rain. It could be a cool effect if it was intended, but its not.
Is this normal with this varnish?
How do I fix it?
What varnish do you use for your minis?
>>44297588
>>44297788
Great stuff dude, i'd recommend magnetizing your bases, but be sure that your magnets are strong enough to hold the model, it's a real shit if you have to put over two dozend magnets into your model and your base to get the damn thing to hold properly.
Anyway, had some spare time this morning and made some progress on my EC lord. Tried my hand at some paint chipping for the first time, overall i'm pretty happy with the results. Next up is his loincloth, cape and purple sections of his plate.
>>44298638
I love this piece man. I get excited for every little bit of progress you make; I've been saving them.
Obligatory pic
>>44298631
Did you spread it out properly? It's supposed to go on real thin. I usually do two coats of gloss and 1 matte but I use Panduro since it's so damn thin.
>>44298638
The blue eye lenses aren't working at all, make them green instead or a pale orange
>>44298638
>>44298715
They might work if he gave them actual lense effects although I agree that blue is a bad colour in this case.
I'm spray priming my minis
Will a box with a vacuum cleaner hose punched through the back be enough to stop any toxic chemicals poisoning me and my cat? It's too cold/wet/windy to have a window open or do it outside.
The vacum has a hepa filter if that makes a difference
>>44299533
Any air sucked out should be clean enough once it passes the filter, the trouble will be airflow in the box itself. But as an improvised spray hood it'll probably be fine.
Also, while the gasses and atomized paint from spraying is unhealthy, it'ls not going to kill you that quickly, nor your cat.
We're not working with the really dangerous stuff, that's what MEK (Methyl-Ethyl-Ketone) paints are for, spraying those without a mask is asking for trouble.
Alclad Metallics are based on that stuff, as are most automotive paints.
Anyone got links to a good greenstuff basic tutorial? Just general hints and tips on how to use greenstuff creatively/effectively?
>>44298707
Maybe I went too thick with it. I didnt know its supposed to be thin.
I will try a thin coat in another model, but now, how do I fix this one?
Hopefully I'll be motivated enough to finish up the horribly painted set of guardsmen I have when I get home
Hopefully they'll be done before Christmas
Also need to repair my basilisk but that's just gluing parts back on

Neat, with pussy on hand.
>>44298631
>What varnish do you use for your minis?
This stuff works pretty well as long as you're not trying to make them bulletproof.
>>44300284
sorry for the xboxhueg filesize
>>44297788
>awesome base
>crisp yellow
You're doing good anon.
>>44298631
Spray it with matte finish, it'll dull the shine.
>>44297788
Are you going to wash the yellow? Tale of Painters did a really good tutorial on a Hawkshroud knight, they used a Skrag Brown and Lahameian Medium mix
Does anyone have the the list of paints needed to paint ork skin that someone posted here a couple threads ago?
>>44300392
?
>>44298631
For actually decent protection your going to need to hit it with a glossy varnish (pretty much any works) and then dull it down with a matte finish (testers dull coat is what I see most often recommended). You can jump right to using a matte finish if you want to skip a step, but the glossy varnish is really what's giving it protection. Obviously it's a massive pain in the ass, but if you spent a lot of time on some good looking minis, it's definitely worth the effort if they're getting regular use.
Whipping up some orks
>>44300297
Good stuff, i use it too.
>>44300456
Acceptable tabletop quality orks. Good job with yellow, skin is okish.

>>44300531
Ork skin is hard as balls, even though this is around my 60th ork I still cant get it right. Thanks though
>>44300416
perfect, thanks so much! Does anyone happen to know the Vallejo equivalents? I bought myself a big batch a few days ago, and I wanna see if they have the greens or if I should just get them from GW.
>>44300456
How'd you get such a fine yellow? What was your primer?
>>44300831
>Does anyone happen to know the Vallejo equivalents?
Look them up here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart
All four of those colours have equivalents in the Vallejo ranges.

You're welcome. What are WIP friends for?
>>44300965
>>44301005
What kind of computer is that? It looks bulky as fuck.
>>44300603
naw man, it's easy as fuck. Just paint it yellow (base bronze and gib 2-3 coats of yellow of your choice, I go with Sun Yellow form VGC).
Then give it a green glaze and then green wash (or two).
It gives you super hot ork skin, already shaded with diffrent tones of green all over skin, so it looks natural. On pic related I just added one layer of bone-greenish highlight, everything below is yellow+glaze+wash.
>>44300856
I keep getting asked, so heres a guide.
>>44301079
>>44300856
Also primer doesn't matter, Because I primed with shit Krlyon black paint + primer.
>>44301036
Im gonna try this right now, Ill see you in a bit.
>>44301027
Cooler Master HAF XB.
It is very boxy because my motherboard sits horizontal as opposed to vertical. I have to move my computer a lot and this one has good sturdy handles, a compact size considering and room for all the crap I had to shove in there.
What are the practical differences between metal and plastic models?
>>44301162
Metal models fall over, are hardly to glue, you need to wash them before you prime them, and if they hit the ground they explode and break your floor. But they're generally cheaper and incredibly detailed.
Plastic is easily to glue and work with, still explodes if you drop it, but the detailing is less.
>>44301162
Well one is made from metal and the other is made from plastic for one. The metal one is heavier.
Aside from that - metal is easier to strip, more difficult to work with, harder to convert and it's recommended that you use varnish with metal models as they are prone to chipped and flaking paint. YMMV but metal models generally have less detail.
>>44301162
>practical differences
I find Metal infinetly easier to strip yet compared to finecast and plastic can not cram as many super small details onto the model.
They obviously weight much much more.
Less pose - ibility (not none, but much more militated without extreme work compared to their lighter cousins.)
>>44301162
>What are the practical differences between metal and plastic models?
Metal models multiply your cool factor by 150%.

Thanks guys, was thinking of picking up some historical models since they're half the price of Warhammer shit. Will probably stick to plastic then since i'm still quite shit at modelling.
>>44301162
paint stays on plastic better, even after varnish
metal needs pinning, and depending on the model, adding some counterweights int he base
metal is easier to strip paint from
metal swords and weapons are more likely to bend than snap
(depending on age) lead rot
>>44301337
There are cheap plastic historicals too.
Check out Warlord Games, Perry Miniatures and Victirx, depending on what period of time you want.
Super new painter/hobbyist
I tried hitting my now silver necrons with the Agrax Earthshade, a brown wash by Citadel.
I tried to take a picture between the one I washed and the one I didn't but the change was barely noticeable to the naked eye, yet alone my tablet's camera.
Am I straight up supposed to dip these little bastards in the wash. I thought I followed the tutorial well enough but the round surfaces look unchanged while the joints hardly got a tint of brown.
>>44301395
Yeah that's what I was on about, seems they do the Perry Min. Napoleonic British in both plastic and metal, so I wanted to ask you lot which might be better.
50p a model is fucking superb imo.
>>44301337
>>44301395
This. You can get awesome historical plastics these days thanks to the Perry Bros and Warlord games amongst others.
>>44301428
Try an ink instead. That will actually tint your models.
>>44301438
Beware: Perry Miniatures are true scale 28mm. That means they are smaller than your average warhammer 40k human. More like the LoTR size.
Warlord Games minis are a bit more "heroic" in their scale. Still smaller than the abominations GW is selling as Cadians, but still bigger and wider than Perry.
I don't have a desk....
Don't be like me and get one. I merely don't have a lot of room.
My family gave me too couches. I need to get rid of one and put a desk there.
Did any of you guys have to do this or are you all responsible adults who have jobs.
>>44301494
Ah, thanks for the tip. What is the mm of your average Empire swordsman/ Warhammer Human just out of curiosity?
>>44301500
>throw couch outside or trade for a board and cinder blocks
>Bam. Desk
Not to sound like a jerk, but being an adult is problem solving. Sometimes you have to upset your parents. It took me to 30 to realize what an adult was.
>>44301558
They all are around 28mm. Just Perry proportions are a bit more realistic.
It works with fantasy though, pic related
My new kit bashed Blood Angels Captain with inferno pistol, valor's edge, and the angel's wing.
What do you think of the model overall? Does it look sufficiently like an HQ model?
>>44301617
Ah brill then, thanks mate.
>>44301500
Ah see my family gave us two love seats when we moved out which were much more conservative in an apartment that is only 800sq.ft
It also helps having three full ass bookshelves around the living room for all our crap and collectibles.
I literally cannot stop kicking myself over how large his sword is. He does not have two hand weapons though, I rationalize that he's holding the sword and taking a shot before two handing his sword again. Originally he was a chapter master with a multimelta and a relic blade but recently has become a count as helbrecht. I just can't seem to get over this damn sword.

Calm down anon it looks fine.
Is that iron halo made of greenstuff or does the picture just distort it a lot because it looks rather bumpy with rounded points.
My only problem with the sword is that it looks relatively plain to me.

>>44301968
Thank you for the chuckle. I've missed you /tg/.
>>44301986
Thanks anon.
It was a shitty pre based bit that never should have been added to the model. to remove it would cause unsightly scars to the models backpack, I've planned to use its natural unkemptness to bring out a weathered look. Not battle damaged but weathered over the years.
>>44301986
I forgot to add the swords flair will be in the paint job more so then the weapon itself.

>>44302683
That snow base looks shit.
>>44302901
just posting the links, not applying a value judgement.
It has its uses, though it is situational.
Though I will admit, I've seen nicer heavy snow bases, but the stuff used for it is quite a bit of work to apply, this is fairly easy.
Slow day on WIP, I guess. We all must be at work.
>>44299679

>>44300297
>>44300520
Same here. Feels nice and rough to the finger. Looks ALMOST as good as Testors if you apply it well. Comes in huge can that's cheaper than Testors. Is acrylic. Dries fast. More tolerant to humidity. Frosts less.
This thing has no cons other than it's not as cheap as random brands like Krylon.
>>44302857
I've stopped doubting Duncan ever since his lava base. He was always kind of questionable, without ever screwing up, but I watched that video and I was like "you don't know what you're doing" and the end result was like "wow what the fuck are those Golden Daemon winners doing their lava bases look like shit compared to the Dunc."
>>44302857
But the GW Texture paints are meant to be slathered on the base...you're not going to add "a little bit" of dirt or sand on a base are you? The rest would just be black empty base.
>>44304367
They look really dark but the techniques are there from what I can see. I'm guessing you paint under a very bright light? You should invest in a full spectrum daylight bulb, it has a more natural pale light so you don't get tricked into thinking "woah, isn't this going to end up too bright?"
This happened to me with my first squad of berzerkers, which I thought were the coolest models ever at the time.
>>44304930
i paint in daylight actually, i just use a lot of dark colors and blend a lot so i don't have details pop out often
>>44298631
This until they stopped making it.
>>44302901
Looks better than baking soda snow, worse than crushed glass.
>>44297914
First use Warpstone Glow and then Moot Green. it's how i do mine.
>>44305255
Crushed glass is more like broken ice than snow though.
>>44300425
That's a myth, since matte varnish is literally just gloss varnish with extra matting agents added in. Just do two or three coats of matte if you're concerned about protection, it'll amount to the same thing as one coat of gloss and one coat of matte.
The only way you'd get "more protection" is if you use a heavier duty gloss, like enamel or lacquer instead of acrylic.
>>44305173
Hmm, I think it would come out better if you did one more brighter step on for example, the skin. But only the highest areas, the rest looks good.
>>44305296
yeah, but my highlights always turn out too bright. i just did a fiend that looks like she put on some powder, which work since it's slaanesh but ugh i wasn't going for that
>>44305260
That's quite a jarring use of moot green on the edges of the jetpack, Anon. Maybe look into blending the transitions or just painting the whole upper edge.
>>44297914
There is also another Anon that recently posted some beautiful DV marines. Maybe he's lurking.
>>44305374
I do hope you're referring to me, teehee.
At any rate, my base is caliban green like everyone elses but my highlights are a three step highlight of
>warboss green in a thin line over every edge
>warpstone glow to bright up the color towards sharp corners and ridges
>moot green on the very extremes
The key to pulling off great edge highlights is to NOT put a lot of paint on your brush. Think enough paint for a drybrush, only your brush isn't dry. That way you can gently go over the same edge several times and do easy transitions from darker to brighter, simply by going over the same area several times to make the layer more opaque.
>>44305328
Could you take a picture of which paints you're using for, let's say, the daemonette skin + which paint you think is too bright to highlight with? I just feel like with your brush control you can do much better, so it must be the paints you're using.
>>44305328
>since it's slaanesh but ugh i wasn't going for that
I'm sorry Mr. Burns, I don't go in for those kind of backdoor shenanigans!
Working on my BaC death guard, thoughts on the white? Bases are unfinished
>>44305647
nice and crisp in my opinion.
Perhaps a little too crisp for DG, but it does look good on them, something different from the dirty and muddy look they usually get.
>>44305647
They look a bit cartoonish but in a gorgeous way, like I'm watching a 3D rendered image in real life. It's pretty cool bro, I wouldn't change a thing except maybe some stronger highlights on the termi shoulder tassels.
>>44305624

>>44305571
let's see. primed white, basecoat of genestealer purple, drakenhof nightshade, back to genestealer purple with a dash of skull white.
i would take a picture but dropbox isn't working with me today. here's another picture for your help
>>44305864
For the base, you want naggaroth hide. Work up to genestealer purple, give it a drucchi violet wash and then hit it again with the genestealer purple by feathering it. Basically put very little paint on your brush, stipple a thin line of where you want the brightest point on the area highlight to be and then smear it out towards the darker areas. Do this with very little paint on your brush and don't actually hit the shaded parts. That should give you a better contrast and more natural looking highlights.
>>44306065
stipple eh? i haven't tried that yet and i like the ideas. this girl is done but i got some seekers and chariots of slaanesh i will try this on. thanks!
>>44306171
Yeah man, the stippling concentrates the thickest part of the layer on the spot that should be the brightest. By dragging it out from there, you get nice and easy transitions almost effortlessly.
Good luck, keep us posted!
>>44301640
Looks great, Blood Anon.

How can I achieve something like the skin in pic related?
Sup /wip/, I have a strange request.
I'm making phone case designs out of Rachel Pierce art from the FW HH books, and I want to make a joke one.
In HH3, there is a picture of Perturabo, and his expression is some amazing mix between dissapointed and furious.
I want to make a phone case that's just a bunch of angry Perturabo faces, facing different directions, etc.
I don't know what program I would be able to splice them together in. They would need to have the parchment-esque background on them all, and they are all designed to look like pen/pencil sketches, so GIMP is giving me a hard time with them.
Any suggestions for program for me to use?
Also, would a less meme-like design with just a single gigantic perturabo look better?
Just wanted to say.
Liquid gold.
Makes me moist. Holy shit it's good.
>>44307148
Here's the image of Perturabo that I would be basing this design off of.
>>44306872

Skinwise... Im sure you could archieve something like this with white + thinned down/mixed druchii violet?
>>44307252
>>44306872
Legion of Everblight certainly, not sure which one though.
Found it: It's an Archangel, which is rather large.
http://privateerpress.com/hordes/gallery/legion-of-everblight/gargantuans/archangel
As for the colours, I believe Privateer Press use P3 Murderous Magenta and Carnal Pink for tinting the otherwise mostly blue/white skin.
In the posted image it looks to be mostly Carnal Pink for the Archangel.
>>44307371
>P3 Murderous Magenta and Carnal Pink
Well, my druchii violent wasnt that much off... sort of.
And damn, 134€ thats a nice model, but to much for me trying to make a VC undead dragon out of it.
What do you think of this beret color? I like it alot but my friend isn't to keen on it, not sure what other colors to use without looking to boring.
>>44307446
Why is your friend's opinion more important than your own?
>>44307414
It would also dwarf almost anything short of Nagash on the table.
It's larger than it looks, there's quite a bit of volume to it. But yes, at its price it would be a very costly experiment.

>>44307446
The only problem i have with it is that its color looks almost exactly like the UN color. And UN troops are usually not fighting troops.
Maybe a little darker blue?
>>44307446
i love it, never change it.
>>44307414
having said that, there are smaller monsters in the Legions arsenal that could fill the role as well, and probably cost a lot less.
>>44307615
Yeah already, looked through them, a lot of the everblight models could work as Tyranid conversions.
Or use the parts for spicing up existing tyranid models.
But theres nothing that really says "buy me" to me, except for the Archangel and I think Im definitly going to buy it someday just so I have it.
What's the best way to remove superglue from metal models? They're coming apart easily enough but there guy i bought them from used a lot so it's all caked into the corners.
>>44307819
On metal miniatures just use acetone, but remove the plastic base to be safe. Supposedly a lot of super glue will desolve in vegetable oil. I believe mineral spirit works and is also safe on plastic though I havent tested it.

You can use any conversion of whatever as long as it's build on a GW model (a lemon ruse covered in 90% plasticard run as something else is legal for example) but no pure scratch builds. I can't go to a local store and I don't want to pay 150 dollars for five kannons I can easily make myself. Anyone got any way I can exploit this loop hole? Any GW bits for cheap I can use to make em?
>>44312126
why not use GW accessories on a scratch build, that way it's 5% GW or something
>>44312126
The only thing you can really do is stop playing at GWs.
>>44312126
IG heavy weapons?
>>44312218
They specified it has to built on something and you can't just slap a bit on plasticard
>>44312242
Gw Is the only store in my area and is the most popular
>>44312266
Do you or does anyone you know have a garage or other open space?
>>44312253
This seems like a really good idea, thanks.
>>44312266
get a friend with sprue, empty sprue, and use that as the frame. it's 100% GW
>>44312218
>"You see, I based the build on this single bolt taken from the edge of an IG tank tread. The rest of the custom stuff like the cannon were all afterthoughts"I don't actually have any better advice for him
Guys help.
I found my Space Hulk set, but the miniatures paint jobs are horrible, back from when I was young. Really young.
How do I strip paint from plastic, if possible, and is the plastic from the space hulk set the same as that from other GW products?
Also I'm missing a lot of the Objective markers (Namely the C.A.T., which sucks, I loved that model). What would be some good replacement models for them, or stand-ins I could get? I'm thinking an inquisitorial adept or two would work.
I might just end up replacing the miniatures with new ones, but I want to see my options first.
>>44313664
>How do I strip paint from plastic, if possible
You can use non-acetone nail polish remover.
>>44314087
>non-acetone nail polish remover
>ingredients: acetone
Nice try.
Just wanted to share my work. It's still pretty early. I'll be putting on a matte coat next, then put on the washes.
I wanted to get your opinion on the color scheme.
>>44315087
Here's another one. I think I went a little overboard on the camo.
Relatively new to painting my 40k models, plan on building my Calth set and painting them a dark red like the middle row of pic related. Should I buy the new Mephiston Red spray and go from there? Or should I spray black and use Mephiston Red as a base coat? Apologies for such a simple question but I honestly have no clue how to get that scabby dark red.
>>44316171
Prime brown.
>>44316171
Mephiston Red isn't an actual primer, so either buy Army Painter Dragon Red or prime black then Mephiston Red. That just looks like red with a black wash.
>>44316171
>that storage solution
Those models are going to have the paint rubbed right off them.
>>44316231
>>44316256
GW is releasing (or rereleasing) a Mephiston Red primer in the US this January.
>>44316286
It's GW's current generation foam tray hard case.
>>44316297
Seeing as how their original black and white primers weren't even primers, I have reservations about that release. Or maybe they finally realized Army Painter is a genius and taking up a lot of their spray can market pie.
>>44305647
Could I ask how you did the bases?
>>44316336
wouldn't topcoat protect them?
>>44308456
/tg/ has always hated boobplate you fucking newfag scum
>>44316451
Bases are german camo medium brown, drybrushed usa tan earth, the larger rocks are usa tan earth drybrushed with bleached bone, the rim is flat brown
>>44313664
Get hold of either some Simple Green or brown Dettol and a sealable jar or similar. Fill the jar, throw minis in, seal and leave overnight. In that morning scrub the minis with an old toothbrush, then use an old painting brush dunked in the stripping liquid to work melted paint out of the cracks. It might be stained a little by the old undercoat, but otherwise it should be good as new.
>>44311436
Just working on some simple rolling hills, not much of a terrain maker but giving it a go
So I've done some more work on my Terminator Librarian.
He's close to being done. Aside from the marble axe haft (which I just haven't been able to get right, despite many attempts).
Any thoughts? Things to improve? Bits i've missed?
>>44311436
wow that cardboard workstation is cool.
I have to steal that idea
>>44297788
looking great would add a yellow wash and perhaps some form of sigil to the exposed emblem holder?
>>44314134
It should be ethyl acetate, not butyl acetate
>>44310741
goolimang looks like a chemo patient with that face desu
>>44319286
Fighting a decade long civil war will do that to you
>>44319345
So will snorting primarch grade adderall to stay awake during those long nights
>>44315087
>>44315212
The first one looks cool. Not so sure about the color choices for the 2nd plane though. There aren't that many bushes and trees in the sky for that kind of woodland camo i think.
>>44319884
I'm thinking of stripping the paint off on the P-40 and starting with a clean slate. Any ideas how I can fix the camo?
>>44319986
What kind of paint did you use? acrylic or enamel?
>>44320066
Acrylic
>>44298638
I love that rusted metal. It looks just grimy and real. How did you do it anon?
>>44320286
Okay, thanks
>>44298638
>>44320282
seriously, that rust is awesome
the rest of it feels like it lacks definition though, the paints all there and in the right places, but it just looks flat and really kind of boring unfortunately
>>44320315
don't let it to long in that stuff, it will eat up plastic if it is exposed to it longer than 4-5 minutes.
Take it in and brush the paint off with a small brush (old toothbrush for example)
>trying to basecoat with yellow for the first time
I have made a huge mistake
>>44320434
Averland sunset?
>>44320484
Yriel Yellow/Golden Yellow. After 6 layers, The prime is still showing
>>44320504
Aren't those layer paints? You at least want to put down a layer of very light brown first if you don't have a good base paint for yellow, like the vallejo heavy range or averland.
>>44311925
I would advise to search for individual bitz.
For example the old khorne berserker backpacks look so much better for iron warriors, same with the helmets you can find on other sites.
>>44320519
I don't know, I never painted yellow before. Maybe if it still looks like shit, I will wash it with Fuegan Orange to make it orange
>>44320434
The best way to paint yellow is to do brown underneath. It makes it much more solid.
I do...
>Scorched Brown
>Averland Sunset
>Sepia Wash
>Averland Sunset
>Sunburst Yellow (layer or highlight, depends on how light you want your yellow)
>>44320578
Dude, it says right on the bottle what type it is.
>>44320855

more epic thunderbolt
colours from the 1995 diorama
>>44320932
I know most people bitch about filesize but cmon man, at least make it 200kb
>>44319884
That kind of cammo was common in wwII, anon.
>>44320959
can do, the mini is only just noses over 2cm long though, so even in the first pic it'll still be larger than life on most screens.
>>44321006
>2cm long
>that detail
I fucking love you for that awesome model, and hate you because I suck shit at painting.
>>44321006
That is so fucking cute
>>44319884
>>44320990 This.
If you can see the topside of the plane, I think you usually don't look upwards. Planes are most vulnerable when not flying.
Found that on the internet, now Im going to make my own Battledroid, I hope
first member of my mordheim warband painted. fluff is, I am trying to stop some khorne norsemen
>>44321886
the pic sucks so here is a better one

>all brushes except drybrushes worn out
>new ones sitting under christmas tree
Waiting is suffering.
>>44321992
Take better care of your brushes, Anon.
>>44321923
Looks good.
Finally got my Chaos Knights base colored and washed. Now the actually fun painting begins.
>Sorry for the shit pic, the lighting in particular, I live in a country with eternal darkness during this time of the year and crappy desk lamp
>>44317617
very clean and smooth paintjob. I'd so somethng with that legpad (is it parchment?), book, and seals. Add some brown wash, maybe inscriptions. Because it looks like brand new, instead of ancient and battleworn.
As you mentioned, axe could get some love, duncan showed how to paint lightning effects on 3rd part of gorkanaut vid so maybe you could use this.
Also, it seems you made freehand on shoulderpad, mind showing it?
>>44322380
Interesting armour.
how is it going to look like when finished?
>>44322495
Like this.
>the weapon is censored because I screw up so badly
>like 20 layers of paint trying to correct my mistakes
>it will be switched out at a later date
I feel like I need to explain.
I started collecting WoC when it still was Fantasy, and I decided to not make a competitive army.
I wanted an all-human army, with all having Mark of Khorne. Just because it gave the unit Frenzy, and it sounded fun having an entire army almost play itself.
Anyway, my first idea was a terracotta-style army come to life. Didn't like the look of it.
Then I tried marble. Was too complicated and too time-consuming for me.
Then I tried ceramics, failed miserably.
This color scheme is a happy mistake of one of my ceramics tests that I liked to look of. Not sure what kind of material it's supposed to represent though.
>>44297409
sup /tg/. My painting skills are shit, and I need to step up my game.
Tell me (and I promise this isn't a troll question) what is the best way to thin your paints? Looking for tips on technique AND products/materials used. Thanks.
>>44321971
>making the catachan a nigger
god i fucking hate tumblr
>>44322676
The problem is probably that you're using crappy brushes because thinning with good brushes is easy. Don't use synthetics for example.
>>44301948
Where's the chest/leg/arms for that come from?
>>44322676
Small amount of water or thinner/retarder meant for acrylic paints. Products usually have some sort of instructions.
Ok I'm going to repost this because I want to beg for ideas. I'm trying to come up with a shit ton of detailing for this costume build but I'm really blanking on what to do for the chest besides the standard Cataphractii pattern that you see. What kind of Thousand Sons shit would you put on this thing?
>>44322750
Have you got an idea for how much water? Is it 1:1 or less? Sorry for being so fucking retarded.
>>44322726
So, I'm painting my old Space Marines. Black Templars specifically. I've already stripped the old paint jobs off them, and undercoat with black spray. What size brushes should I be using? There's a lot to choose from, and I have no idea. Are GW brushes fine, or should I go off brand?
>>44322720
>tumblr
Or, you know... GW's own art for the Catachan box.
>>44322913
>what is camouflage, sweat, grease, mud
>what are negroid features
the hint is in the facial features fampire
>>44322625
>I decided to not make a competitive army.
>I wanted an all-human army
Good luck with that, I wanted a skelli and skeletonlike army only.
Oh boy, what a mistake.
A nice color for the armor though.
>>44322907
You'll want Da Vinci or Windsor & Newtons or if you're on a small budget, aliexpress has some pretty good kolinsky brushes. A size 0 should be small enough for any small detail work if you buy the expensive brands. Basically the lower the quality of the brush, the more specialized the brush you're buying has to be for the job and the shorter its lifespan is. What you want is master's brush soap and galleria flow improver for thinning so your brushes won't wear out fast.
>>44322939
The level of denial here is incredible.
>>44322720
>>44323014
>>44322957
I only play friendly games against friends, and winning is not super important for me.
My all human army idea relied upon Mark of Khorne granting Frenzy for my purist army, pre-AoS when Frenzy was still cool.
(We actually prefer the AoS rules and fast paced gameplay to Fantasy, so when we play we play AoS, so we won't be playing with Fantasy rules).
Now, with AoS, I'm not so sure where to go with this army anymore. Time will tell.
>A nice color for the armor though.
Thanks!
My goal is to keep my entire color-scheme simplistic and minimal, precious metals reserved for leaders only and so on.
>>44322907
>Have you got an idea for how much water? Is it 1:1 or less? Sorry for being so fucking retarded.
Depends the paint used and effect you want, but generally less than 1:1, something like 1 part of water per 5 parts of paint.
>>44323033
Your level is denial is incredible. I kind of want to frame your posts in my house because this has to be some kind of contemporary art piece on shitposting.
>>44323171
I could believe latino, but that guy doesn't look black and catachan in the fluff do wear full body camo so they can blend in with the brush
>>44323171
Don't feed the trolls.
>>44323171
>>44323241
This.
my first painted mini
Its a renegade marine for my chaos warband.
any tips on smoother wash application?
It's 2 parts nuln oil to 1 part athonian camoshade. I did it all in one go but it still turned out a little patchy.
It will fit in fine with my nurgle themed army (though this particular unit isn't MoN) but just want to know how to do it for future reference.
Glottkin!
>>44322872
I kekked at those sweet rimjobs.
>>44323438
You done good. Nice eyes, if you we're going for a dirty look on the armor you've got it down. Almost looks like Sons of Horus actually. Instead of walking the entire miniatures you might want to try just putting where you want it and cleaning up around. It'll take more time but waste less paint
>>44323438
Try a drop of dishwashing soap in your wash. Like just a single teeny tiny drop. It will break the surface tension and help it flow easier.
