Ahhh… the first few days of summer, blazing hot sun overhead, inviting everyone out of their homes to enjoy some icecream, climb some trees and work on that tan.

But you, Dash Addams; student extraordinaire, won’t be doing that, now will you? Nope, you’ve been forced into summer school, thanks to a desire to graduate any time soon. You only failed by a little bit, and that’s mostly because the teachers didn’t like you. Mostly.

Of course, the school doesn’t leave the air conditioning running during summer, so instead the comfortably warm heat from outside turns the building into a sweltering over, as you find your way into your classroom.

None of the faces nearby are familiar, all doing their best to fan themselves off with scraps of paper while a skinny looking dude with glasses at the front of the class seems to be doing his best to get an actual electronic fan working, all while he continues wearing a thick looking hoodie.

You take a seat in the middle of class, slumping onto a hand, sweat already tracing its’ way down the back of your neck, as the teacher tells the kid to abandon the fan and get to his desk.

The woman at the head of the class clears her throat, throwing her hair off her neck and opening a few windows, “Good morning class.” She greets, with an attempt at energetic cheer, the sign of a fresh diploma-bearing graduate. All she gets is a chorus of half hearted grunts in return, and one set of angry mutters from some kid wearing a hat in the back. The teacher shrugs it off, accepting it as the best she’ll be getting from a summer school class, and rolls onwards into a remedial maths lesson.
>>
The morning draaaags by, and more than once you have to stop writing to clear sweat from your eyes, the room only getting hotter as the day wears on, until the class mercifully breaks for recess. The teacher, Miss Kelli sags into the chair behind her desk, wiping sweat out from under her collar, as you finally get a chance to look around at the others properly.

That kid with the glasses is looking at the fan again, pulling open some panel at the back, and looking between it and his phone. Besides them, there’s a pair of twins behind you, the sister frowning at everyone as she bites into a celery stick, her brother on the… rounder side eating a cookie which looks pretty delicious. There’s two particularly annoyed looking dudes in the back, one of them the angry hat wearer from earlier, the other practicing drumming on his desk and looking out the window in what is probably meant to look really deep mannnn. And finally there’s a scrawny asian kid sitting in the front row right by the teachers desk, who’s still working on math problems between quick bites of something that reeks of soy sauce.

Well… you’ve got no food of your own and nothing better to do…

>Gonna take a leak, screw all these guys.
>See if you can help with the fan.
>Talk with those twins, the brothers got food to spare.
>Gotta be a story behind that hat, talk to the angry kids.

>>
Well, might as well try and do something for the greater good of the class. You stroll over to the fan and squat next to the guy, peering into its innards as he prods things in seemingly random order. “You got any idea what you’re doing?” You have to ask.

He shrugs, “Hell no, but if I pull up some schematics on my phone when the teachers looking, I get to use the internet.” He turns his phone to me, showing him scrolling through some site about robot shows.

“Kind of a lazy move, no?” You ask back.

He shrugs, offering you a smile, “Eh.” A hand extends, covered in his sleeve. “Name’s Casey.”

“Dash.” You inform him, hearing him snort in his throat, “Dash Addams.” The snort gets even deeper as he hides his mouth behind his hand. “Yeah…” You have to agree.

Casey spends a minute working through that, before he recovers himself, flicking back to the fan diagram he’d pulled up. “Okay… Now, in my fully trustworthy position as an electrical engineer….” He snorts a little again, “I dunno, I think this…?” He prods a circuit board, “Needs resoldering? The heat’s gotten so bad that all the old solder melted together. Woo, summer.”

You look over his shoulder, noticing dark clouds rolling over the horizon, “Well, seems a storm’s coming… maybe that will help with the heat a little.”

Casey shrugs again, “Or it’ll just make the weather even worse, nothing worse than hot rain.”

“You’re a glass half empty kind of person aren’t you?” You remark, as Miss Kelli claps her hands, calling everyone back to their desks again.

Casey slots into the desk next to yours this time, slipping his phone away, as the slow march towards lunch begins. It seems Casey was right though, despite the dark clouds blotting out the sun through the windows, nothing changes about the heat, if anything it get’s even worse.
>>
Just as Miss Kelli is about to let us go for lunch, you feel your phone buzzing in your pocket… as does everyone else apparently, as everyone clutches at their bags or pockets in confusion. “Guys, no phones in cla- oh, that’s mine.” Miss Kelli calls, trying to control the situation, before grabbing her own.

Someone’s calling you, unknown number, no caller ID, nothing.

You accept the call, bringing it up to your ear, only for a loud AOL-esque screeching to blare out of the speaker, right into your ear.

You drop your phone in shock, clutching your ear as a loud ringing sets into your skull.

It seems Casey had the same result, holding his phone at arm's length, the two start to harmonise, as do all the others phones as well, the noise building and increasing in pitch.

You slam the disconnect button with a thumb, but nothing happens the screeching continues, building and building, as a fierce wind starts howling against the windows.

The kid in the hat, the only one without a phone, runs for the door, grabbing at the handle and trying to tug it open to no avail.

He spits out something that sounds like a curse, kicking the door, just as all the windows shatter, the glass being sucked outwards.

What the hell is going on? The wind rushes into the room now, sucking everything towards the windows, desks and chairs slipping across the floor, loose papers sucked into the black void that's come from the clouds.

The kid with the hat is dragged off his feet and hurled through the window, screaming the whole way, and Miss Kelli goes a few seconds later.

Everyone else clings to their desks for dear life, even as you feel yours grate along the floor.

You shove your phone back into your pocket, thinking.

You throw yourself out of your chair, time to live up to your name, do some hero shit! You drag yourself from desk to desk, hauling yourself across the room, heading for the door, Casey grabbing onto your arm and hauling himself out of seat to join your march across the room.

Drummer kid’s the next to go, with his window seat he didn’t stand much chance, while the twins have thrown themselves to the floor, trying to cling to a sturdy bookcase, while the nerd in the front row grabs onto the teachers’ desk.

The doorknob rattles as you approach, like someone’s trying to open it from the outside, Casey throws himself at the door, desperately trying to twist it open, as loud thumping comes from the otherside.

“Hell are you kids doing in there?” A cranky voice calls inside. “Better not be making more mess!” Seems the janitors come to investigate.

You grab Casey by the shoulder and point to the door hinges. He starts kicking at the lower one, bashing at the cheap plywood, while you slam a fist near the higher hinge, denting the door in a few swings, as the wind starts to suck with greater intensity.

The girl twin yelps as her grip looses, and her brother watches her fall, before letting go and diving after her, while the asian kid sails off with the teacher's bag in hand.

“Keep going!” You yell over the wind to Casey, just as you punch through the door.

You’re greeted by a bizzare sight, the hallway outside has broad daylight, none of this pitch black cloud stuff, of course that view only lasts a few seconds, as the now unhinged door has you pinned behind it, pinning you and Casey behind it, you both get forced back across the room and thrown out into the void.
>>
The next thing you know, you’re lying down, and everything’s hot… hotter than before. Feels like you’re lying face down on sand too.

You bolt upright, wiping sand from your face, staring in every direction… There’s nothing but desert and sand dune in every direction for miles, save for Casey and the classroom door, both of which are currently half embedded in the sand.

You quickly trudge through the sand and drop by Casey’s side, hauling sand away as his legs start to kick around. You grab them for a moment and hold them still. “Just hang still, I’ll get you out!” You tell him.

After a minute or so of digging around him, the sand is loose enough that you can pull him free, yanking up on his legs, his head finally pops free sand raining from his dark mop of hair. “You alright?”

He shrugs it off. “Never better, my head was in a tiny cave with some air, so I wasn’t gonna suffocate. Oh yeah, I also saw these talking beach balls down there. Check it out.” He shoves his head back in the sand, “Hey guys, come on out!”

Sure enough, two round… things bounce forward as Casey pulls his head out, grabbing the first one herself; a purple ball with a ferret tail and wearing a horned helmet, while the other is an orange fuzzball with one giant horn sticking out from it’s head, both with big eyes and even bigger mouths.

Casey laughs as he tosses the purple one in his arms, “This little guy’s Kapurimon apparently. He’s great.” It seems to be enjoying itself at least.

You glance back down at the orange ball. “Tsunomon. Glad to make your acquaintance.” It dips its horn, rather cordial greeting for a… ball... thing.

You strike a heroic pose you think suits your name, “Dash Addams, nice to meet you. You want a hand up little guy?”

He nods and you lift him out of his little sand cave, holding him at arm’s length. “Not to be rude… but Casey, are we hallucinating? Heat stroke or something like that?”

He shrugs, “I dunno man, all I know is that this little guy’s real fluffy.” He sets Kapurimon atop his head and balances him there, trying to walk with the creature on top.

“Right. Well.” You turn your attention back to the fuzzball. “Tsunomon, you wouldn’t happen to have seen any other humans land around here, would you?”

He shakes his head, which happens to be all of him, “Nope. No humans round here. Not that we’ve seen anyway, not that we get out much.” He glances over at his helmeted friend. “But, we could help you out with that, it’d be on my honour as a Digimon.”

Digimon, huh? “Well, thanks I guess.” You glance around, dunes and desert in every direction, “Any idea where to look?”

Tsunomon takes a moment to think, “Well…. there’s a beach nearby with a resort, maybe they’d go there? Or there’s a town nearby, just on the other side of a small forest, called Byten. Maybe they’d head there?”

“Ooooh, oooh. What about that swamp to the east?” Kapurimon chips in. “There’s a big old mansion, right in the middle of it.

Why would they go to town when they don't know where they even are?
>>
calling it
>>
>>44292602
Because they can go to nearest police station, and have them call up their parents? Or because phone signal might be better near a town? Or because going to a town means they have some clue where they are? There might be maps, and transport in town, witch would help getting home.

“The beach is probably our best bet. Plus it’d great to cool off in this heat.” You tell him, once more wiping sweat off your forehead. “How close are we though? I don’t hear any seagulls or anything, or the waves…”

Casey punches you in the shoulder, “Yeah, but we just found talking heads with horns in a hole in the ground after getting sucked out a window, I say go with the flow dude.”

Kapurimon swivels around, nodding up a dune, “Not far from here, just a few dunes walk for you big people. But you have to go over the dunes themselves, walking between them leads down, caves all over the place.”

Seeing how steep a climb it is, you offer to carry Tsunomon up the hill, Casey wanting to drag the door behind, insisting it’s remains will make a good sled over the dunes. By the time you reach the top, you can juuuuust make out a blur of blue on the horizon. “Few hours walk, by the looks of it.” You mention.

Casey shrugs, setting the door down and surfing it down with a loud “Wahoo!” Seems he’s not taking this very seriously.

You hurry down after him, helping to trudge it up the next hill, this time and riding it down, building up a rhythm an hour rolls by.

Upon cresting a particularly large hill, you come across a new creature. Something white, with shaggy fur, laying facedown in the sand. If you had to guess, it’d be just slightly taller than you if it were standing up.

You turn Tsunomon around, “Should we go near that thing? Or is it dangerous?”

He curls his lips into a frown, “I dunno. Never seen that kind of Digimon before. Though from the fur, I’m guessing he’s not a local. Anyone that hairy would burn to a crisp if they lived here full time.”

Casey and Kapurimon take off down the hill, heading straight for the creature. “Hey mister!” He calls. “Yeti guy, are you alright?”

It forces itself up, on it’s hands and knees it watches the human descend with narrowed eyes. “Water?” It croaks, “Do you have any water?”

Casey fumbles in his hoodie pockets for a moment before drawing out a half empty water bottle. “How long has he been sitting on that?” You grumble, keeping your distance.

The yeti thing swipes it out of his hand and downs it in one gulp, growling with satisfaction. “More!” It demands.

Casey shrugs, “That’s all I had. Sorry buddy.”

Tsunomon shifts in your hands, as the yeti stands, “I don’t like that look in his eyes.” He mutters, as the yeti towers over Casey.

Casey is quickly backpedalling away, laughing nervously, as the yeti follows him back up the dune towards you, continually demanding more water.

“More! Now!” The yeti growls.

“Look, buddy, it’s all I got.” Casey laughs, “We’re- uh, heading to the beach? I’m sure they have all the water you could want there.”

The yeti growls, one giant hand curling into a fist. “NOW!” It bellows again.

Asking for a roll that multiple people will post at the same time just brings the thread closer to bump limit.

You’ve got the high ground on the dune, might as well use it. With a roar, you charge at the yeti, dropping Tsunomon and leaping high as you can and driving both feet into it’s nose, sending it staggering backwards, almost tumbling over.

It lets out a howl of fury, trying to right itself again, but Tsunomon’s got your back, “Bubble Blow!”

A stream of bubbles erupts from the fuzzball’s mouth, rushing at the creature and slamming into him. It lets out a few pained grunts, as that topples the beast properly, clearly those weren’t ordinary bubbles… It seems like they hurt the yeti more than your kick did.

The yeti rolls to the bottom of the hill, landing in a sandy pile, before righting itself, fury in it’s eyes.

“Kapurimon!” The orange fuzzball calls to his friend, “Come on, we’ve got to stop this psycho.”

The two balls bounce forwards, standing in the path of this yeti creature, looking fiercely determined.

There is interactivity because anons are making all the decisions and only roll when the QM tells them to roll. Typing "dice+2d20" is not a decision.
If this quest were happening in a chat client, I would understand, because it only takes a few seconds, post space is unlimited, and players are responsible for keeping track of their own stats. None of this applies here.

Please explain why it's impossible to run a "best of 5" system in a single post per roll, as opposed to one post calling for a roll, waiting for multiple people to post, and then making them wait for you to interpret results.
You can roll a lot of dice at once, so it's clearly not a technical issue.

For example, see here. >>44294360

“Casey, come on, we should help them too!” You call over to him.

He pushes his glasses up his nose and hurries forwards, raising his fists uncertainly in something like a kung fu pose.

The yeti barrels back up the dune, reaching behind it’s back and drawing out a heavy club, that seems to be one giant bone, rushing down on your small group.

Tsunomon blasts the creature again with a stream of bubbles, right in it’s face, while Kapurimon generates a tiny spark of electricity between it’s horns, the spark flying at the yeti, but going wide.

It snarls, slamming the bone into the sand and kicking up a wave that blocks your sight of his approach, before you nod to Casey. You both rush forwards together, only for Casey to end up tripping over his own feet and tumble past the yeti down the hill, while you kick sand in it’s eyes and bring a sharp knee up into it’s snout like nose.

It roars in anger, and before you can duck, the bone slams into your stomach, the force of the blow knocking the wind out of you hard, throwing you back up the dune and slamming you into the sand hard enough to embed a few inches in.

Oh christ in a basket that hurt.

Tsunomon has turned around, worry in it’s eyes as it stares at you. “Dash? You alright?”

You try to reply, but just a vague choking noise escapes your lips, as your phone buzzes in your pocket again. Feeling half concussed, you fish it out, but it’s… different. It’s warped it’s shape, and colour, with the usual apps and background gone, replaced with a little graph of a man, the bottom two thirds of which are coloured in red, while the top third is blank. A readout next to it says

>Dash Addams: HP: 20/30

Well, that can’t be good.

Tsunemon round on the yeti again, growling at the beast, and suddenly a flashing red icon comes up on the touch screen with a picture of Tsunemon next to it, a single word prompt.
