>On a side note, has anyone gotten a hold of the "Gamer's Edition" Codices yet? You know, to add them to the Mega or something.
They're interactive iBook apps or something, I'm not sure it's worth trying to translate them to screencaps and scans since it'll end up being a mess in .pdf form.
>>
>>44286527
Wouldn't they still be .epubs? The only thing I imagine would make them hard to get is some good ol' fashioned DRM.

Seraphim Sepia v. Nuln Oil?
>>
>>44286681
Seraphim Sepia is a lighter brown than Agrax with some hints of red in it. Nuln oil is straight up black. Seraphim seems to have a niche for fleshtones, while Nuln contests with Agrax for the right to call itself the closest thing to a one-size-fits-all shade.

Could work. If you're putting that many points into aircraft it might be worth thinking about null deploying via Scalpel Squadron too, then Turn 2 all your planes and everything else comes on. Tiny allied Craftworld detachment for an Autarch for +1 to reserves wouldn't hurt either.

Ah. Agrax, the mystery of 40k. Where did Malal go? What's awakening under Titan? What caused The Forgotten Apocalyse?

All of these questions pale into comparison to the question

>What or who is Agrax Earthshade based on?
>>
>>44288428
Since when has GW cared about ripping other shit off? Martian Tripods aren't a copyrightable thing in the first place. Copying outright, 1:1, a Tripod, would breech it, but slapping spikes on the legs won't matter.
>>
>>44288501

Yeah, they could absolutely give it a copywritable name and put their own spin on it, but public domain means no need to be coy about the hints as to where it came from.

Point is, it'd be a fucking awesome kit.

If it was the Beast why cover it up? Keep the story uncovered as a reminder of what Orks are capable of.

Finally figured out what I feel will be a good basis to build my army on. Any input/tip is appreciated

Warriors of the Fang
>Combined Arms Detachment
800pts

=HQ=
Wolf lord
>Runic armour
>Jump pack
>Two wolf claws
170pts

=Troops=
Grey hunters x5

>plasmagun
>CCWx5

Grey hunters x5
>WGPL, combi-plasma
>plasmagun
>CCWx5
115pts

Grey hunters x5
>WGPL, combi-melta, melta bombs
>meltagun
>CCWx5
>drop pod
150pts

=Fast attack=
Skyclaws x5
>WGPL, storm shield, melta bombs
110pts

=Heavy support=
Long fangs x5
>missile launcher x3
>lascannon
140pts

Their is no plan really. Obj Sec GH w/ plasma hold objectives on my side of the board, GH w/ melta in pod contest an objective on the opposite side of the board and/or threaten a vehicle/MC. Long fangs support from cover with blast template, split fire the lascannon if possible. WL and skyclaws counter assault anything that deepstrike on my side or quickly maneuver to the other side of the table has needed.

Now I know CCW on GH are expensive, especially in low points games. I feel like A3 on the charge can give me the versatility to engage shootier units but with S4 AP- I shouldn't completely clear it in 1 assaultt and avoid fire for a turn. While it also gives me a fighting chance when receiving a charge, at least I can take out a few extra model before my squad goes down.

Hey, he had a fucking time-table to work to, heretic. He knew that at one point in time, something HUGE was going to happen, something so utterly massive and powerful that it blocked his ability to see the future. That's why he rushed back home to deal with the Webway. In fact, he actually purposely delayed his return for Ullanor to confirm that Horus was the right person for the job, by MERELY PRETENDING to be being choked by the huge Ork (which, if I Am Slaughter is anything to go by, was nearing hab-block size, but wasn't as big as The Beast) just to see if Horus was willing to let him 'die' to rule instead. Which didn't happen.

This is why, just before the last like 10% of the webway was fixed, Magnus blowing the wards, literally sending a psychic message showing the betrayal made Emperor shout out "DAMN MAGNUS THE RED" instead of "WHAT THE FUCK HORUS?"

This question has been asked so many times. Emps is aware of the state of the Imperium, he knows about the Imperial Cult but he really doesn't care. As long as it can protect humanity from the galaxy and Chaos while he can't activatly protect humanity he doesn't care. He's not an idiot and only one God. He knows the Church would spilt into pieces, and so would the greater Imperium. Fixing it would take a while.
>>
>>44288994
Take a master of ordinance and drop a pie plate on your opponent's lord/immortal unit (I'm assuming that's where his warlord is?). Don't stop doing that until they are gone. Or if a blob of warriors comes close, drop it on them to clear a path. Wraiths are tough nut to crack, dude. But weight of fire usually draws out more luck than AP, because of the 3++. Bring a vanquisher tank or 2. Focus down the wraiths, as you can double them out with S10. They still have their 3++, but their reanimation drops to 5+ (or 6+ if they aren't in a decurion)

Just a question for you guys, how much money have you spent on your army? (be sure to include how many points it is)

I always get cheaper models, mostly from those game shop discount boxes, and random used stuff, but the normal stuff looks a lot more expensive than I remember it.

Is this normal or is something going on? Will it get better or worse? I mean, 10 basic imperial gaurdsmen/ork boyz for 35 dollars? holy shit.
>>
>>44289330
A few thousand, but that's spread out over 11 years.
>>
>>44289330
I've got about 1000 points of Tau. I usually go for pretty heft discounts, so I've only spent about 250 on everything.

It also don't have many big models.
>>
>>44288624
That's what I was thinking, too, but the Arc Maul looks pretty cool as well.
>>
>>44289330
I play SoB and have about €500 worth of Sisters minis, which is about 1500 points, and €50 of Inquisition stuff.
Most of the stuff is genuine GW pewter, but I wasn't willing to fork out €8 for a single battle sister with a Meltagun. The vast majority of my Special/Heavy weapon sisters are Chinaman.
It'll only get more expensive.
>>
>>44289330

300 on my 3 Imperial Knights
300 on my SOB force
600+ on my Tau Army
>>
>>44289330
I can field at least 2200pts of Grey Knights and I've dropped $400 or so and I've dropped $240 on Tau because my mate and I split the army and he's dropped at least $150. We can easily do 2500+ of Tau.
>>
>>44289330
About 3k of DE, spent some $500 or so. 200 points of Craftworlds, spent $40ish.
>>
>>44289330
>how much money have you spent on your army
A lot. For just the 2000 points of fielded space marines (not counting the rest of the collection and guys who have been removed from existence) it's hard to tell because a lot of guys were gotten before GW's price hikes. Also there was a lot of kitbashing and upgrade packs whose cost I'm not totally sure on. The best count I can make is about $560 dollars not including tax and shipping costs for when stuff came from ebay, just for those 2000 or so points.

That's NOT including the stuff that's been taken out of my army or bought just for modeling. If I'm going to include that then the price probably somewhere around $960.
>>
>>44289330
I play orks.
I got 2000 points total, I usually play at 1500 points, I spent 700 CAD.
I got a age of shiggmar army of daemons thats cost me 335 CAD, and I never use it.
I kinda felt pain adding that all up, but I dont plan on buying new stuff till 8th. I'm comfortable were I am at.
But that Big Squiggoth is taunting me...

>>44289565
>>
>>44289330
Yeah, horde and swarm armies are always more expensive to collect, but the orks specifically seem to be dirt cheap now, even at MSRP on GW's website.

Maybe it was the 7th ed codex or something, and how orks have been not very popular since like 5th, and haven't existed in tournaments since 4th, but if you check theirmodels' prices, they're currently a lot more in line with older prices.

However, if it WAS because of the codex, the tyranids should even cheaper (I checked, you can get a shitload of the little models for really cheap but the larger single models are $50-100. idk though I don't play them, I can't compare them points wise or anything else).

Anyway I find the most cost prohibitive models are like imperial knights, titans, etc.
Like, $1250 for a warlord, what the fuck.
I've heard tau being more expensive to play as well, but I wouldn't know.

I've probably spend a few hundred on my small 500 point SM armies.
>>

I have about $300 in Dark Angels at just over 1000 points and $450 for just over 2000 pts of Necrons.

This would be including codexi but excluding hobby supply which I fear is in the hundreds since I only buy Citadel Hobby Supply.
>>
>>44290030
Power Armor 20-25 pts/model base
Terminators/Paladins 33/55 pts/model base
HQ's are expensive as sin, and 2 Dreadknights and a Land Raider rack up to around 700 pts alone. I also forgot to tack on the Dreadnought I bought, so throw on another $30 because I got it cheap on Ebay.
>>
>>44289109

Honestly, it would be better balanced. By a long shot.

No D, at least not at long range.

T7 2+, so less vulnerable to rapid removal, so more of a sure bet than a toss up.

5+ from a R'varna's built in shield generator, rather than buying an upgradable one.

Secondary weapons are not randomised so easier to balance around and more Tau-ish.

And as a bonus, visibly not modeled with anchors and in a passably agile pose, so 110% more fluffy as a Tau unit.

A+ Improvement on Stormsurge, lacks only retractable cockpit hatch. Prolly worth about 400-500 points.
>>
>>44289708
Yeah, I also play orks
I wanted that too
>350 for a FW squiggoth
lol
dropped instantly

what I do is I just go to my local dollar store, buy a 66 cent triceratops, paint that shit up real nice, and use some plasticard+foamboard to make that harness thing on the back.

what I did a few months ago was make the harness very boxy and simple, but painted it very well and attached a lot of spiky stuff and decorations, used wool thread instead of chains and left the armor out for the time being. It looks very feral and orky as hell.

you can always add more stuff as you get ideas and experience, and you end up with something totally awesome for 1/500th of the price.

I always get compliments from my custom stuff, and everyone always admires a good scratch build. while on the other hand, buying a big expensive model is like meh.

you should really scratchbuild as much as you can. orks have been screwed over a lot, but we can scratchbuild practically anything.
no one else even comes close.

I Am Slaughter portrays Drakan Vangorich as anything but an idiot.

It's of course, leading up to the Beheading, when he kills all 12 High Lords, hides in a Assassins Temple, elements of 3 Chapters come to kill him and he unleashes 100 Eversors and kills all but 1 of the Spess Muhreens. Who ends up blowing his face open.

I suspect Beast will kill the High Lords (not The Beast, fuck you Abnett for making confusing named characters) but will be injured and will go "lol Drakan did it" or people will assume it's him. Beast also punches his fist through an Inquisitors agents face and out through the back.

In fact, Drakan in the novel is the definition of Mary Sue.

let's say you're playing a basic green tide, at 2500 points. you really purely on numbers, a huge amount of super cheap troops. you just swarm everything, and if your opponent has a lot of AOE/crowd control, you can even beat that with having such a gigantic amount of units.

now, when the units cost exponentially more than they should, you get a fraction of the army you should have.
every ork army relies on numbers so this really fucks every ork player's shit up.
there's a reason orks don't exist in competitive play.

imperial knights (good luck), titans (kek), heavily mechanized armies/armies with a shitload of vehicles.
grey knights obviously, you can have a playable army with like, what 4 units.

armies with heavy units and stuff like that, basically any faction just pick any faction you like and go through the codex and build around high cost units.
also, upgrades. ALL the upgrades.

speaking of which, the new skitarii.
their base points are pretty low, similar to IG I believe, but holy shit they have upgrades out the ass. some of them have like 80 point or more upgrades.
my friend plays skitarii and I was just going around his codex, I think some units have upgrades that cost more than the unit.

Help, /tg/-sama!

I just inherited my friend's CSM army because he was moving and couldn't bring everything. I'm having serious indecision regarding how to repaint them. I'm torn mostly between Death Guard and Emperor's children, with a few other warbands as runner ups. I honestly can't decide.

Can anyone offer advice on choosing?
Advice on painting/modeling?
Advice on how they play on the table?

I made a strawpoll

If you're running war convo load him up, power sword for sure. Really comes in handy to break those combats where wounds aren't getting through. There were a few times a power sword would have come in handy in my last couple games but I didn't have it on the model so I didn't run with it. Trying to stay WYSIWYG so there aren't douchey surprises for my opponent.

a slaanesh noise marine army is great because of all the ignores cover salvo weapons you get. even without any upgrades, a basic noise marine will run 17ppm, but you get fearless and i5 over ATSKNF and i4 for only 3 points more, with the option to take the icon of excess for FnP. Yup. 40k fluff used to be full of things like this - strange occurrences and bizarre invasions that didn't directly tie into any of the named, playable factions. It really emphasised that the universe was an incredibly old, dark place, full of all kinds of ancient mysteries and buried nightmares just waiting to be stumbled upon. Sadly it's an aspect of the setting that has been played down in recent editions.

>>
>>44291559

>>44291618

>>44291751
I already have an Errant / Paladin I use for my IG occasionally. I could grab 2 to 4 more and run them straight up. Painting a Titan is the only reason I don't get one, it looks like a massive pain in the ass.

What's the best way to run an all-tank (or mostly tank) army that isn't just Imperial Guard Armoured-Battlegroup?

Would a Tau Hammerhead force with a bunch of different guns work? Eldar tanks?

>Anybody able to tell me what's so great about this thing?

I can guarantee the Keeper of Secrets will appeal far more to your multiboob fetish than any other Greater Daemon.

More seriously, it's reasonably fast, one of the cheaper Monstrous Creatures in the codex, has a neat close combat statline, can rend which is handy at times, and comes free with two decent primaris powers, one of which you can roll to try to get invisibility.

Keep it cheap, but a greater gift won't go far wrong as if you're lucky it'll boost durability well, and if you aren't you can always swap it for an okay shooting attack.

I've got a few questions. First questions are relating to narratives: how exactly do you run a narrative campaign? How many points is it usually? What if you don't have that many models that you can make a varying list with?

And secondly, how would you homebrew units or a codex? Is there anything anywhere that essentially attributes certain USRs, Weapon Strengths, ranges, and capabilities to appropriate point values? How would you know if something is over-costed or under-costed in a homebrew codex? I ask as I'm just wanting to make one, not necessarily to use, but just to make. It's similar to how I like the idea of homebrewing classes for other TTRPGs.

Alright, two related questions in case anyone knows off the top of their heads (I'm lazy)

1. The rule for being tabled applies to a game turn, right, not a player's turn?
2. What counts as a game turn exactly?

If
T1 - 2 units deepstrike
T1 (opponent) - they both die
Do you get tabled or do you have until the end of your turn to deepstrike the rest?

The Hive Mind has bound to eat Moose People at least once, probably not in the Tyranid galaxy of origin since everything probably was like the Nids themselves and then eaten by the Nids or the Nids left because of too much competition. That much is reasonable to me at least.

Sadly GW fluff will never be has good has before. All I can offer you is to keep/discard what you like/dislike and make your own fluff.

I love SW for their models, the runes and pelts give them a distinctive look compared to other chapters. Unfortunately someone at GW lacked imagination when it came to space vikings so we have wolf everything in the codex. Good thing when I play with my friends I can call my WOLF lord a Jarl, my WOLF guard a huscarl etc.

So for my swamp fighter themed Tau, I homebrewed a planet where the tress grow really thick canopies bu their trunks are more spindly and branch-y (kinda like sumac trees except larger) which makes skimmer use impractical, so the Fire Caste mostly uses suits and infantry hoofslogging.

For the army I want to use
Commander Ra'lai (maybe), 2 crisis teams, 2 fire warrior teams, 1 pathfinder team, drone net formation, hazard suits, a R'varna and one other riptide that's supposed to be heavy reinforcements that crashes down through the canopy (so I'd be deep striking it probably). Should I use the Y'Vahra or a standard riptide for a 2000 points list?

As a low point Ravenwing player is there any way to beat a Necron Reclamation legion at 1000 points doing a Maelstrom Mission?

I focus his Ghost Ark with Grav ASAP since he usually parks it on whichever objective looks to have the most competition.

Gauss makes quick work of my Darkshroud + 3 landspeeder support squad.

His group of twenty warriors seem durable enough to last for 10 turns yet alone the five or six we play out.

His third objective bastards are the Gauss Immortals which foot slog to the nearest objective and just sit on it.

Really he can hold anything he wants and I have to be content with constant moving and going after more killy points.

At first he was running his overlord with only 5 lychguard and I made quick work of it but now he runs it with 20 warriors and I cant touch the bastard.

Don't get me started on tomb blades. I am glad he only has three but I fear any more will ruin me.

I am unsure what he is bringing for 1250, I assume more lychguard or another 10 man unit of Ghost Ark warriors while I bring a Librarian to ride with my current Interrogator Chaplin's Command Squad and then another unit of Grav Bikes.

For 1500 I know he is working on the pieces of the Annihilation Nexus and that frankly scares the shit out of me.

I play necrons and I have never been able to shoot one down. It's 3's to hit and 6's to glance with gauss, so even with a squad firing 20 shots at it, they should only get about .06 hull points off one (20*.666*.1666* 1/36).

60 points is pretty damn steep for a stupid fucking fixed loadout (with a shit gun on it ffs should be rending instead of twinlinked and either -1 AP or +1 S...) and the chance of insta-dying if you fail grouding test (why the fuck did they make the commander suit so fucking big if its still T4 and 4 wounds means shit all if you get double-toughnessed)
>>
>>44295114
Yeah you want to use the ravenwing banner, sacred ones give relentless (which you already have) and counter attack, which really, you shouldn't be getting assaulted anyway if you position yourself right. That said though if you're not using hit&run then you're wasting the banner completely.

I know it's tempting to stay back and shoot considering all the fancy guns they have, I had to learn that they have spikey bits in their hands as well too. In CQC you get 4 attacks each and reroll to hit with the chaplain. That after all those plasma shots is hard to deal with, especially for necrons that might not even get a chance to swing back.

Power mauls are a power weapon option, same as the crozius. S+2 AP4.

But a buddy of mine told me about the Militarum Tempestus book, and how that might let me finally play my oscar-mike-foxtrot-golf-secure-burgertown-operator-pseudo-ODST babies.

Is this viable? And how expensive would it be?
>>
>>44295579
I still use some tesla anyways. Tesla cannons and the like. I'm not a WAAC player, so I just use whatever's cool. It's not optimal, but playing the most optimal option all the time is boring and kills it for me.
>>
>>44288903
You are foolish. It's just a legend by heretics with little evidence that actually happened. Also seeing that it's FFG, this means it's not even canon.
>>
>>44295616
why are you so fucking lazy
>>
>>44295616
>viable?
Ehhh... They're fun, doesn't mean they're competitive grade
>expensive?
About as expensive as other armies. The taurox models are overpriced for the amount of plastic, but they have loads of details. Five infantry models run about thirty five dollars, but you can always find the stuff cheaper in places other than gw
>>
>>44295616
How do you manage to have lower initiative than orks?
>>
>>44291520
>>44291366
You guys mean C'tan and Necrons? The legend is in the North which is the seat of the Necrontyr power and that object seems to be Necrontyr of origin. The creatures seem to be C'tan-like.

It's similar to a canon event called the "Pale Wasting" in which 12 marine chapters died. It was implied to be Necron related.

I don't get why people why people want something SCARIER THAN CAOS. It's like they want to ruin the setting.

No, there is nothing in this universe that is as menacing as Chaos. Chaos has consumed multiple realities and universes. It's horrible multiversal threat that has no equal and it will always be that.

I'll be using Valkyries, since this is going to act as a stand-in Harakoni task force. Might not be the strongest list, but they're what I want to play, fluff-wise.

Might try to get my hands on some older kasrkin and Inquisitorial stormtrooper models, too. I prefer them to the newer scion models--even if the scion models have my favorite helmets so far.

>>44295665
>>44295686
I'm sorry? How is this lazy? I can't afford this ridiculously stupid-expensive hobby, so I don't want to commit until there's a codex that lets me play the faction/regiment that I REALLY want to play?

Or is the Tempestus Scion list considered lazy around here?
>>
>>44295686

Orks have the highest initiative

They are literally always looking for a fight. That's proactive as fuck. The rules don't represent this correctly because if they did Orks would destroy all.
>>
>>44295665
>>44295686
Oh it seems the Euros have awoken.
>>
>>44295746
I agree with you there, trying to outdo chaos would only hurt 40k as a setting. What I would like more of is weird, esoteric, limited shit that isn't a major threat but still spooky. Enslavers are the perfect example of that.
>>
>>44295746
to be fair chaos being the cause of everything, orks being a casual threat, space elves being dicks, tau being a blip, and etc are cliches at this point. gotta get some new blood in
>>
>>44295802
Orks started with having Initiative 4 on the charge. That and choppas used to make all armor saves a 4+ or worse, was what made orks a close combat oriented army. Sadly orks suffer from having statlines stay the same and all of their special rules getting removed or nerfed into the ground.
>>
>>44295488
THE MONOLITH!

We destroy that and it is over.

CHAAAARGE!

>>44295488
Ghost arks
>>
>>44295853
Well that was third ed, not the start of orks overall but the start of modern ork design. Anyway it's mad how orks have had all those scary close combat rules stripped out through both codex and BRB, yet everything has remained the same cost.

That and "nice" rules like HQs having an entourage specific to them and fun and effective rules like trukk explosions propelling orks out like a what you'd expect out of a cartoon are gone. It's a shame.
>>
How long until GW stops letting Codex writers play the game. The favoritism in the new dexes is sickening.

Yeah, there's so much stuff I wish that orks would get back. Like mob rule, mop up, ramshackle, looted vehicles, lootas weapon diversity, the ork nob council, skarr boyz, cyboars, squigs, and all the old characters.

I would love nazdreg,Wazdakka, Zogwort, and/or zodgrod to come back, or even make a few new ones like Snagrod and Blaktoof.

i'm pretty sure none of them play the game. they probably play it less then tg does

I think it's funny how much /tg/ complains about Space Marine kiddies when Marines are the most balanced army in the game. Which is why SM can't win unless they're fighting other SM's

who are the best Space Marines and why is it the Grey Knights?

Make sure you kill their Lord, that way he has to start making Crumble checks.

90% of the time Raptors.

Warp Talons are pretty damned mean against MEQ's in close combat, but it's pretty difficult to get them there without them getting shot to high hell.

However, I have had some great results using a Dirge-Caster Rhino to prevent them from Overwatching, and with the MoS they hit at I5 before the other units.

However, I greatly prefer running Raptors.

I can't remember the source, but I read on /tg/ a few days ago a letter from one of the designers. He was complaining about tournaments and said the design team and himself don't look at points when they play, they simply pick up fluffy armies and play scenarios regardless of balance.

That would explain a lot of things
