Hi tg, I'm looking for some ideas for a rogue trader campaign I'm running. My characters have turned pirate and I'm struggling for ideas for loot when they raid a colony or ship. What items in the 41st millennium are valuable? I'm looking for analogues to coffee, sugar and tobacco in the 1700's. Thanks in advance

Recaf, sugar, lho sticks
>>

2nd.
But grimderp it up. Make a ship have a few hundred kilotons of sugar, or a belly full of generational slaves or something.
>>
>>44283662
I was thinking more in terms of their value rather than the actual equivalents, but to be fair that would make for a good haul. Any ideas that are a bit more unusual?

Weapons, ammo, and explosives.
>>
>>44283838
Done a few of these, the problem I have is that weapons are useful, so they want to keep them. I'm after stuff that they would only consider useful because of its value.

Precursor chemicals/extracts for combat drugs

Xenos trinkets of indeterminate use, but alternately are paperweights or insidiously lethal. Alternately, human archeotech.

PSYKERS

Raw materials, salvaged components, and food.

>PSYKERS
I love this, imagine being a regular space pirate and taking one of the black ships. What the hell would you do?!?!

Bio-Engineered grains

Get tagged as a priority by the inquisition

Bad times ensue

Waifu all the pyskers

cry when they unleash demons
>>
>>44283951
Either become King of the Pirates, or die a short time later because the Inquisition throws everything they have against you

Get hounded on by the Inquisition.

Eldar soulstones.

Drugs. Regular drugs, narcotic drugs, loopy drugs, drugs that are somehow connected to a alpha legionnare's plan, drugs from a slaaneshi world.

Lots of promethium.

Something concealing whatever seeds a genestealer cult.

Metals are always popular. Heavy industrial metals are common, but demand ALWAYS massive outstrips supply. Gold and silver are still valuable, as are radioactives and volatiles. Adamant ore is ridiculously valuable.
From there, art, drugs, exotic bioforms. It's all good.

One thing I've never seen is what the Black Ships look like and how they travel. Presumably in escorted fleets, but in the ultra-paranoid Imperium, I could imagine some fleets use misdirection, wherein the giant scary baroque ships are empty, and psykers are actually delivered in unmarked, anonymous, generic ships.

Alternately, there's bound to be an underground market in wild witches/psykers that haven't been captured by Imperial authorities yet.

Said underground market would be actual chaos heretics.

Forever RT GM here.

The navigator, if they're very tuggy. Ransom to his family, resold to other pirates or chaos.

"Slaves", as in, the humans in the bowels of the ship, not the captain and such, but those that are used to being bossed around in one ship, boss them around to another ship, sell them to the Mechanicum or trade for repairs. They go through manual labour a lot more than the rest of the imperium, because a defunct fleshbag still makes a great servitor.

Generally, think of looting parts on a ship that you've overrun. Nothing gets really made in 40k anymore, if the ship they have is anywhere near ancient, you've hit the jackpot. So get the engine out of the carcass, so to speak. Also non-perishable good, as a pirate this is much more valuable than foodstuff.

Other things: fabric. The stuck up bitches at the local navigator house have the money to buy nice things. Think of the value of silk at some point.

Rations. Most is produced off planet on an agriworld and gets sent to a hive world. I always imagined agriworld proces things up to a point to make sure that the food they send off world doesn't go off if the navigator gets them lost a little.

Water.
>>
Holy relics. They have a reliquary containing a few finger bones of a (very) minor local Imperial saint.

Probably worthless, possibly a fake that was unloaded on these poor backwater dupes. But they will fight to the man to defend it, driven by religious zeal.

Now that sounds like an actual strategy, a plan with some thought behind it. And not nearly grimderp enough. HERESY *BLAM*

Weapons that are worse than what they have?
Like an Administratum shipment of lascarabines for a newly founded IG regiment in the sector.
>>
>>44284053
Yep. But, hey, their gelt is as (whatever color gelt is) as anyone else's!
>>
>>44284039
I do think they're carried aboard the black ship. They need flying hyper isolated, anti psyker cells.

If you know you're being taken up by the black ship to be fed to the astronomican or psychically traumatized into psychic email, something tells me many would be willing to make a little arrangement with chaos to avoid that.
>>
>>44284112
It is a good way to quickly get relatively high on the shitlist of the Inquisition though.
>>
anyone running rogue trader games and has open slots perchance?
>>
>>44283645
What you want is the particular ores and materials that are incredibly rare but necessary for manufacturing the very best weapons and equipment.
A freighter of the ore that they use to make plasteel - not worth steeling. A shipment of the incredibly rare ores needed to make plasma technology, power armour cores, anti-grave plates etc - very valuable.

Use your imagination - its not like its actually canon how the mechanicum builds this shit.
>>
>>44284065
You really do sound like a forever GM of RT. My group always enslaves the living crew and trades the hulked vessel for upgrading their own components to Best Craft, not because we use the achievement points, but because they want their ship looking beautiful and perfect.

Eldar Soulstones or other xenos artifacts.
