I got a story about a series of one-shots that became much, much more due to one PC making every bad mistake he possibly could.

Anyone up for storytime?

Go ahead, I'm always up for more storytime.
>>
>>44287398
Okay, here we go. For a basic backdrop, the setting and series of one shots is about a world struck by a massive demonic invasion, with each oneshot designed to give a glimpse about what living through this horrible war was like. (System is D&D 5e, if anyone cares.)

> Very first session, 3 players, only two of them will be relevant later on. One was a rich boy Paladin, and the other was the most dysfunctional monk you'll ever see.
>The party is in a city that just got demons dropped on them. They fight, hide and run (mostly run) their way through this city.
>The last encounter of the one-shot would have killed the monk, but I took pity on the guy playing him and fudged the rolls.
>I fucked up.

Now, a bit of info about the monk in question here. The character was named Falko, he was a noble-born child who ran away from home, lived in the woods, and punched rocks for a few years. He then decided to go home to uproot the nobility. (Before anyone gives me flak for accepting this character in, this was the best made and played character this guy had ever brought to the table.)

> The next session Falko was in, he asked me if he could have found a follower in the in-game month that had happened since he was last there.
>Falko has 7 cha.
>I tell him to roll charisma
>Fucker gets an 18.
>So I roll up a completely random NPC buddy for him.
>Get an Aarakocra with obscenely high dex.
>The sessions roll along, and the various characters achieve a variety of deeds, including the Paladin (named Hans) 1v1ing an Orc chieftan and winning, The Aarakocra (named Shtaa) saving the party from losing their souls from a gambling demon, and evacuating an entire city by stealing a merchant fleet.
>All the while. more and more people join the series of one-shots, and many of which come to the same conclusion about good old Falko.
>Which essentially boils down to "He's an asshat, but he has good intentions."
>>
>>44287681
>Falko ended up back talking an Archangel, because he hates any authority figure for some reason.
>A recurring villain, a succubus at that, approached Falko and enlisted his aid in getting rid of the angels.
>He didn't say no, but he didn't say yes.
>After that session, Falko's player texted me, asking if he could get anothe NPC buddy.
>Okay.
>Specifies she has to be a she.
>Worry.jpg
>I ask why, he first opens with "The part is a sausage fest."
>I tell him I try and keep a good balance of genders with NPCs, but I don't force a minority quota on the party.
>He shows his true colors and says "Well I think Falko needs a love interest."
>Stick him with a female elf, tell him that she's not gonna fall head over heels for him undeservedly.
>So, Falko, Hans, Shtaa, and two other PCs were attempting to observe a gathering of many high-profile demons.
>After a few botched stealth checks, they find a bunch of demons breathing down their necks.
>Falko ends up grappled by a large demon, it's about to rip him in half.
>Shtaa, Falko's best friend, leaps onto the demon and begins slashing his face open.
>Shtaa is not a melee build. He gets btfo'd.
>Despite the paladin's best efforts, Shtaa dies.
>Falko pretty much shits himself. Before the fight is even over, he rings up the succubus before and makes a pact with her to bring Shtaa back. However, his end of the deal is that he has to do her a favor, which was so intentionally vague it could be anything. (She also put a mark on Shtaa's soul when she brought him back, basically calling dibs on it when he died next.)
>It's all downhill from here for good ol' Falko.
>He attacks another PC for no reason.
>He acts borderline stalkerish to the girl he met an in-game week ago.
>And finally, he's told by the succubus to lead the entire, angel-led army into a trap.
>However, if he refuses, she gets his soul effective immediately.
>So it's either Falko dies, and everyone else lives, or Falko lives, and everyone else dies.
>>
>>44288072
>OOC, everyone thinks Falko will take one for the team, since he's always prided himself on helping others.
>Falko follows the succubus's orders to the letter.
>To the fucking letter. He sends Shtaa away, but that was only by coincidence. Falko leads the other PCs, his prospective waifu, and the army that is the only thing that could stop the demonic invasion into an ambush the likes of which would never be seen again.
>Thousands die as the PCs try desperately to fight their way out.
>Including Falko's not quite yet girl.
>Falko manages to escape with her corpse.
>He then decides the only rational thing to do here, is to make another pact with the succubus.
>For his soul. The thing he killed all those people for.
>And the girl's soul too.
>Oh and one stipulation, Succubus, make sure she has no memory of this, so she wont hate me, and while you're at it, make her want to be around me at all times.

Yeah, that last bit happened last night.

I have no words.

Falko went full retard.
>>

I shouldn't have been surprised. Falko's player has had a long history of making characters go full retard.

For awhile it had just been monster/problem of the week, intermixed with relatively mundane downtime and characterization.

Kind of hard to notice and parse it though, there seems to be a developing overplot of being observed by someone from another planet. Definitely our characters have been observed via surveillance and stuff, some of which we've found and caught or destroyed.

Also separate of that, one of the player characters I believe is being corrupted by an artifact unknowingly used on her by another player. Nothing drastic so far, but her personality and behavior has been changing, and I think there's some supernatural stuff going on with her, though she (or the thing possessing her) has been trying to hide it. I get the feeling that if left long enough, it might come to control her entirely, and the problem is the others don't seem to notice it as a problem or have an idea of what's happening.

I remember when my party found a golem that was designed to test the characters worthiness in One on one combat. It asked for the name of the challanger, and one of the party members called himself "I'm gay."

Very well, Master I'm gay, we shall commence.
Master I'm gay, I hope I have not hurt you too badly.

After the combat they were awarded a jade plaque with their name inscribed ((This I had prewritten))

It said in golden carved letters, "Imgay"

Running a L5R game, been going about 2 years now. Had a guy in the group...we'll call him Jackson for now. Jackson is one of those guys who has somehow convinced themselves that they are the legend they think they are. I've known him for a long time, for some reason I stayed friends with the guy, I don't know why, probably due to laziness. But I start up a L5R game, he makes a Lion Clan Samurai by the name of Sylvanis. Yes you read that correctly. After a week of arguing with him I just let it drop and move forward.

They go through the first little adventure with me reminding him every three and a half seconds bout how society functions in this setting. Which he never quite gets. But coming around the beginning of the second adventure they're at a city, which the walls around it I describe repeatedly as about a 100feet tall. He's up at the top screwing about with an NPC or something and remembers he has to get to the rest of the party. So he jumps off the wall. The 100 foot tall wall with a starting character. This incited thirty minutes of him yelling that I said it was ten feet tall. And then he rolled a new character. OH this is after his Lion insulted two of the party members and had been locke dinto a duel with one of them to be handled later.

My current D&D 5e plot has taken an interesting turn
>game started out with party escorting VIPs to a town at the edge of the swamp they were in
>Get into town and get paid for services
>While in town they catch rumors of diseases from the swamp killing people by the truckloads
>Those killed end up becoming undead
>One undead guy appears to keep his senses and is able to fully communicate.
>PCs talk with him and are told that the disease and undead are a curse from an artifact in the swamp
>They flat out believe this, don't even question it openly
>Edward the undead guy offers to lead them through the swamp to destroy said artifact, and break the curse
>They agree and follow Edward out of town, following the edge of the swamp.
>Edward is secretly a puppet for a necromancer hiding out in the swamp with a necronomicon.
>>
>>44296488
Cont.
>They get in a couple random encounters with swamp monsters while they travel the first day.
>Edward seems harmless to them as he cannot fight, and seems fairly weak.
>They trust him for some reason
>ItsATrap.jpg
>It becomes night in the swamp and the PCs are exhausted
>Talk it over shifts for night watch and learn that Edward doesn't sleep since he is undead.
>One PC proclaims that Edward will be the watch overnight, so all PCs can get a Long Rest in.
>No one argues or says otherwise
>TheyMakeThisTooEasy.jpg
>PCs captured in their sleep and chained before the necromancer in an underground Temple
>Necromancer performs ritual to take their souls
>Tells PCs he is letting them go, but they have to do stuff for him otherwise he will kill them and use their souls to resurrect them as undead minions
>His first order is to slaughter the entire town Edward was from
There was suppose to be a huge thing with flesh golems trying to seize them in the night, Edward slinking off at night to report to the necromancer and betraying the PCs.
Now they are trying to find a way to resists the necromancers influence and kill him before he grows too powerful. He wants to keep the PCs alive because living puppets do better work and uses their souls as leverage. One PC wants to try and raise an army to combat him, idk but I will roll with their decisions and punish or reward accordingly.

That's an easy fix. Succubus makes her remember. Never trust a demon! Hahahaha!

Now he'll have to face his actions next campaign - a world completely conquered.

>He wants to keep the PCs alive because living puppets do better
i find it hard to believe a necromancer would reason like this.
they usually like the dead zombi we dont talk back minions because they cant betray.
i might buy it if hes sending them back town like
"tell them you killed me and that there is no more danger in the swarms so they will let their guard down and then MUAHAAHA"
but killing the town? yea he got their souls but they still have free will and most likely are not all chaotic neutral/evil

i still like the idea hope it works out
