What replaces Warhammer?
>>
Kings of War.
It has mass battles, block movement, and all the old races from WHFB with a couple of extras on top.

Age of Sigmar keeps the powerful heroes and wizards, but is a skirmish game and not at all built for pick up games, and while all the old races have rules but a few of them have disappeared from the fluff.

Both have equally different fluff from WHFB despite AoS being a continuation, it skips thousands of years and is a totally different setting.

Does kings of war have lizards?
Does anyone make proxies for lizardmen?
>>

>Does kings of war have lizards?
Yes, they're called Salamanders and can be taken both in their own army and in the "force of nature" army.

>Does anyone make proxies for lizardmen?
Yes, though they're less common than most fantasy races.
>>
>>44277184
Not the guy your replying to, but Kings of War has rules for all of the Warhammer armies. They may be named different stuff in their fluff, but their rules should allow you to field whatever Lizerdmen you got.

The new Uncharted Empires book has a lizard army list in it. Here's the 1d4chan tactics page for them: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Kings_of_War/Tactics/Salamanders
>>
>>44277184
They have them, though they call them Salamanders. They are in the uncharted empire book but I don't believe models are coming soon.
>>
>>44277184
Oh, Avatars of War have lizard characters.

Just chinaman the Lizardmen. I got a bunch for a friend and they're actually extremely good quality.

I checked Kings of War and boy, do their miniatures suck hard. The only thing they manage to do decently are dwarves, since they're stocky and rough by design, and even those are quite ugly.
>>
I'm a big fan of Kings of War but there is also the 9th Age, which is a fan-made successor to 8th Edition.

9th Age has done a marvelous job so far, but they have a lot ahead of them if they actually intend to create a stable and living community for years to come like Bloodbowl.

Warhammer 6th edition or Kings of War.
>>
>>44278903
You can play with whatever minis you want in KoW. Not forced to buy Mantics.
>>
>>44278835
Is that a dick?
>>
>>44278903
I really like the undead and ogres and I don't mind the orcs, with Orc heroes being particularly nice.

I like the goblins as well but I've heard the plastics came out terribly so I've steered clear of them. Apart from that I'm not a fan of the minis, notwithstanding a few heroes and special units.
>>
>>44279149
Of course it is!
>>
>>44279202
In all fairness, most cheap plastic gobbos out there still fall flat to the plastic night goblins from 7th edition WHFB starter kit, they still go for less than 80c/mini. You know, back when WHFB was good.
>>
>>44278903
There is 0 requirement to use Mantic models even at official Mantic events.
>>
>>44278903
You can use any miniatures you like while playing Kings of War.

Says so right in the rulebook. Just have to be the right base size.

9th age or KoW

I don't really know how KoW plays so I can't comment, but 9th age is what always should have happened.

There are the Salamanders for the Forces of Nature army.

They're more fire themed than Aztec however.

They're brown actually. The corruption turned them green and that happened fairly recently.

The truth is: Nothing will. And that's okay.
The community is broken and fractured and it will split up into the smaller games. Old WHFB Editions, stick with 8th, switch to KoW, 9th Age, Historicals, DBM, even entirely different games like Frostgrave, Warmachine, Wrath of Kings... the death of WHFB will invigorate other games, most of them will probably be smaller than WHFB. But over all, Fantasy Wargaming will be stronger of it. More games can stick around, meaning more manufacturers and a more diverse game and miniature landscape. People will be a lot more open to play different games, instead of only sticking to the current GW game.
We have entered a new golden age, but every transition is rough at first.

A big problem with Warhammer is that 8th split people up massively.

You have lots of people who love it and lots of people who utterly despise it. Random charge distance for instance is incredibly divisive with some people refusing to play 6th/7th or 8th based on that alone. And whether you like it or not its huge barrier to entry, poor scaling and emphasis on big units killed the game in the end.
>>
>>44281558
>is that 8th killed the game
ftfy

Also the main problem about 8th is that the close combat was a slow uneventful grinder, and the special rules creep.
>>
>>44281677
You did not 'fix' anything, I already said it led to the game dying.

Really, there was no reason to change the rules from 6th. Scaled far better, fewer stupid huge monsters and you did not have the rules encouraging big units as much.
>>
>>44281697
>Really, there was no reason to change the rules from 6th
The pre-measuring introduced in 7th was good, even if I didn't have problems with distances it was a plus for a lot of people.
>>
the only good rule changes in 8th edition were step up and steadfast(though steadfast needs a nerf)
