Is Aurelia in Zendikar? If not why ist she there?
>>
>>44276362
Posting my question here now >>44276396

Buy command beacons now or wait for a price drop.? Will there even be a price drop?
>>

She's not a planeswalker. She can't travel out of Ravnica.
>>
>>44276433
Holy shit, why are they going for $8?
>>
>>44274469
Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, Scroll Rack and Enlightened Tutor are a little outside my price range and Land Tax (non-judge version) hurts me aesthetically. And it's racist. I'll consider Mind's Eye.

Commune With Lava though, that's pretty cool and I hadn't considered it. Since Basandra asks that I keep a few {R} up on opponent's turns it'd be nice to have instant-speed CA engines available. Thanks.

Hey so I'm planning out my own Sunforger packages and I noticed you were lacking Tithe, Faith's Reward, and Arcbond. Arcbond in particular combos nicely with 2 Indestructible creatures, Wild Ricochet, and having a higher life total than other players but I understand that's quite a bit of setup. Any thoughts on those 3 cards?

>>44276414

That's how we used to play Hymn to Tourach. Good times.

as I understand after the fuckery that happened during time spiral the way planewalking works was altered and it's impossible to carry someone with you when you walk now, so I have no idea how aurelia would help gideon with the eldrazi. then again I might be wrong, it's been a really long time since I read this shit.
>>
>>44276667
I don't know any of this shit because I'm not a lorefag, but if a new Aurelia card were to show up in Oath of the Gatewatch, I'd be extremely happy. Just seems unlikely.

Just ordered a Sheoldred for my Meren deck.
What do you guys run for your 7cmc Pod targets?
Dunno if I should drop Scourge of Nel Toth or Maul Splicer for it.

Scourge is pretty cool because it's a sac engine even if it is clunky and also has flying, Maul Splicer can net me cards with Skullclamp

Butcher of Malakir is in the deck too. Dunno if I wanna cut him or not.
>>
>>44276586
I misspoke, the character in the art isn't obviously Jewish but it is some horrendous artwork nonetheless
>>
>>44275937
Probably Shirei if you go with shadowborn apostles or Chainer for just straight up monoblack reanimator.
>>
>>44276747
Who cares if he is Jewish though?
>>
>>44276747
I agree that the art is awful but when a card is that good, you sometimes have to look past that.

Which makes me wonder if "Land Tax sucks" anon is still around. Those were some dumb but entertaining arguments.
>>
>>44276721
why do you even care about the cmc?
The only real challenge is getting to 5. From there you're bound to get enough exp counters from there on to make tracking exp not even matter. and get rid of the butcher of malakir.

good pod targets at 7 are avenger, butcher, fell shepherd, hornet queen, black primordial, doomgape with situational ones being sutured ghoul,
spearbreaker behemoth, the devotion demon guy who makes harpies and pentavus. i'm assuming G/B
>>
>>44276852
I care about cmc because if I wanna sac a titan or something at 6cmc I can potentially bring it back with Meren in the end step and nab myself a higher costing dude with Birthing Pod. Then eventually sac the 7cmc for that one huge elephant or Woodfall Primus.

I like Mauler and Scourage

>>

Most of the time these are boring and derivative. I challenge you to post a fun to play against and unique spell slinging deck that isn't a worse version of my Toshiro Umezawa Spell slinging deck.

Anyone here playing U/G Ezuri? Been trying to build a list to pubstomp at the LGS but I can't think of anything outside of U/G goodstuff (which is kind of meh) and elfball featuring counterspells
>>
>>44277428
Ezuri elfball? Or Ezuri claw of progress? And you should know the answer, if its claw of progress, that deck gets crazy fast, is U/G, so its gonna get alot of hate. Unlike Tajic.

I get singled with my Aurelia deck alot more often then my Anefenza deck.
>>
>>44277428
Shitty threat assessment, or politics, or everything else the other players were doing was so much higher in power level than what you were doing, they spent all their interaction on each others letting you steal a win.

I know this happens often with my Aurelia deck. The strategy's weakness can sort of be its strenght, you're so shitty no one bothers you.
>>
>>44277494
Thats what I do with my Aurelia deck, but just having her in the command zone, without ever casting her, makes me threat number one for all time. Even when fucking Rafiq is out.

Claw of progress. I guess it gets crazy fast but it all depends on the draw, guy running this fuck won that game cause daretti player directed hate towards ezuri
>>
>>44277428
Politics are a huge deal in EDH. The more of a threat you appear to be, the more hate you attract. Unless you have a very strong and resilient aggro deck with some way of gaining global haste, you will simply draw too much hate to function if you make yourself a high-profile threat.

I've noticed that a lot of the time, I perform better when I'm using commanders that are inherently less threatening - for example, Dragonlord Ojutai does better than Grand Arbiter because people are scared of Grand Arbiter but underestimate the hexproof flier that wins through commander damage.
>>
>>44277546
Happened to me earlier this week, the Rafiq player went unhindered through the entire game, I got my Aurelia immediately removed, a fucking Boros Signet Krosan Grip'd just so I couldn't recast her.

At that point, there was a Rafiq, a Zurgo and a 7/7 Dromoka on board. I had nothing going on. But they were somehow convinced if I managed to spend 8 mana to recast Aurelia, they'd immediately all die somehow.
>>
>>44277450
I don't think he said white had *the* best draw spell, but had just mentioned that white had one of the best draw spells, referring to land tax. Then the dude started saying land tax was bad and people should play like inheritance instead or some shit like that and just wouldn't back down. It was a clusterfuck.

Exciting and dynamic Planeswalkers are being shoved to the forefront of everything! Instead of shitty boring stories about unique and interesting planes, and the beings that inhabit them, we get a fascinating group of generic and forgettable heroes who return to old plane after old plane to kill any vestige of good lore or interesting game mechanics that remained.

Every time I play with my pimped out $300+ Selesnya Token deck I am always without any hesitation taken down first, with both friends and guys at my LGS. Shaman of Forgotten Ways + Serra Avatar or at least a small army is really the best chances of me winning now. Last resort is to just shit out the biggest army before T8 or T10 and play Armageddon on them assholes. Probably the biggest problem for me is that I'm always ramping the fastest and everyone thinks I'm going after them.

Decided to make a Chandra Burn and Narset with Superfriends out of my scraps and suddenly I'm winning again.

Post your decks, folks.
I could use some help with my Scion Dragon Tribal deck:
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/five-color-dragons-new/
Since the mana curve is so high and it's five color, it obviously needs to run a lot of lands, so that I don't miss land drops. However, at the moment there are a lot of lands that come into play tapped (around fifteen?). My usual line of play is to partial paris mulligan away anything that isn't lands, ramp, fixing or card draw, and spend the first few turns just setting up some mana to get started. What are some ways to give me more flexibility and speed in doing so? I have two fetchlands and two BFZ duals I haven't put into the deck yet, what should I take out for it? The bouncelands, maybe? Some of the ten tri-lands? And what's your opinions on the Alara Panoramas, in place of a few of the tri-lands?
Also I've been thinking of putting some stuff in the deck that lets me dump lands from my hand faster. Things like Sakura-Tribe Scout, Budoka Gardener, Skyshroud Ranger, Walking Atlas, Manabond, Burgeoning and Exploration. Any tips on how many to use, and what to take out for that? Since my starting hand usually consists mostly of land and ramp anyway, I don't mind dumping my hand, since I can just tutor up Dragon Mage to draw seven again.
>>
>>44279507
Brother's War was the shit. It's gone south from there.
>>
>>44279546
But the problem is, when you play with circumcized deck, the whole time there is this "this could've been a lot better" feel. It's like using your Dark Rituals as bookmark.

Can I see your Brago list? Blinking effects on demand seem fun.
I like the pseudo fetchlands since they can look for certain non-basics and they clean your deck. You could add a Mana Vault to help you ramp, Buried Alive/Entomb and some reanimate effects to help you play big threats faster. I think the ones you have in your deck are too expensive.
Cut Feldon's Cane and Surrak's Dragonclaw for a Mana Vault and whatever else you want imo.

I can give you what I still have.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/bragoshiz/
This is a rough sketch made by throwing a few cards I had together, and some jank I decided to proxy until I decided to actually build the deck for real. Cause I wanted to try the strategy out first before getting all the cards, after I played UW fliers in a conspiracy draft and Brago wrecked so much ass that I fell in love with the blinking. I ended up not finishing the deck and abandoning it because, while flickering shit was super fun for me, my turns sometimes took up to ten minutes, with my friends getting bored and frustrated, and while I was hard to kill, I didn't really have much of an on-the-spot win condition except grinding value over a long game or comboing out with the Strionic Resonator. Nonetheless Brago is a pretty cool dude to get value from.
Brago's best friends are, besides ETB creatures like Mulldrifter and friends, mana rocks and planeswalkers. Tap the mana rocks to cast spells before combat, then attack and blink all your mana to use again! Similarly, cast Elspeth of Venser, wipe out all big creatures or make your stuff unblockable respectively, then swing with Brago, flicker the walkers, then +1 them to make some soldier dudes or flicker something again. It's pretty powerful. I think the best creature in the deck is Body Double, because with him on the board, you basically have access to any ETB effect you need in any raveyard, and that is super, super powerful.
You'll find a few dumb pet cards in the list I linked, like Will of the Council counterspells or Shifting Loyalties, but you can ignore those.

I'm sorry, but what cards do you mean by pseudo-fetchlands that can get me certain nonbasics? I only have two actual fetchlands that do get me duals and shocks. Panoramas would be neat, but they don't get me nonbasics.
In terms of reanimate effects; expensive stuff like Profound Journey is definitely on the cutting block for something like Unburial Rites. Buried alive is an option, however that's a function that I've got built into my commander already, so I'll have to try around some stuff. Maybe getting the cheapest and most efficient reanimation enablers is a way to add some grease to the deck, thanks.
>>
>>44279852
I always thought the panoramas let you fetch a forest, mountain, etc, but they fetch BASIC lands only. My bad.

This may be a stupid question but:

If Grenzo is 13/13 and he puts Kozilek into my graveyard, does Kozilek go to the battlefield or get shuffled in?

I always thought that Grenzo's effect would finish resolving, putting Kozilek onto the battlefield, and THEN Kozilek's ability would start to resolve, shuffling my graveyard into my library. I'm starting to doubt myself, though.

I know this wouldn't work with Blightsteel Colossus because he has a replacement effect, not a triggered ability, so it would never even enter the graveyard.
>>
>>44281937
Kozilek should go to the battlefield as his ability is a trigger. The ability triggers but can't enter the stack as long as Grenzo's ability is resolving, so by the time it does so Kozilek is already on the board.

My roommate is terrible at threat assessment. He's also a metafuckingmunchkin that will waste resources trying to kill me even if I have the worst board state and the Oona player is building a small army and milling half my library because he's "seen what my deck can do."

It's a pity because if he had slugged Oona he would've had a 60:40 win chance against me. Hitting me dropped him to about 20:80 I think, and he lost hard.

If you're playing in a super casual environment I'll give these a pass, but Scion of Ugin, Shivan Dragon, flamewake pheonix, furnace whelp, shivan hellkite, and a lot of your other creatures are hilariously weak in the format.

I've tried to make RUG dragons work before but blue doesn't really add enough to the mix. You kinda either have to stay mono-red, go full WUBRG scion of the ur-dragon, or make a midrange deck where dragons just happen to be your beaters.

Intet is a fun card, I'll admit, but its hard to build around.

Drawing three lands per turn is already immensely powerful for a one mana enchantment. Add some topdeck manipulation with that and it becomes insane. Post horrible cards that turned out decent in your decks.

I played pic related in Anafenza for flavor reasons, it did alright. Then I tried it out in Ephara control and turns out, this little guy's ability to quickly gum up the ground is surprisingly good. It sort of ends up acting like a Sacred Mesa that doesn't demand mana every turn. Won a game entirely thanks to him against Zurgo.

>>44279573
All ten tri-lands is way excessive in my opinion. I'd pick one set or the other for balanced chances of enemy or ally paid of colors. Fetches are top priorities in my 5 colors, but prioritize multi-fetches like Krosan Verge, Myriad landscape and Blighted Woodland the highest.
As for acceleration, I find two distinct routes to come through for me:
A) Azusa, Exploration, etc plus bulk card draw or
B) Cultivate, Eplosive Veggies etc plus graveyard recursion.
Alara tri-lands always feel worse for me in 5-color because they only give you the flexibility once, but come with the same tempo loss as a tri color for a specific color.
Land destruction in your play group is a factor too, obv.

It's a draw spell in a loose sense of the term. It puts extra cards into your hand. I mean something like Dark Confidant isn't technically a draw effect either, but it's close enough.
>>
>>44286249
It's sort of a draw spell but also not really. It's not going to help you if you have only lands in hand to draw more lands, but it does have an actually relevant deck thinning effect, makes your other draws better, lets you hit your land drop every turn. Drawing lands isn't exciting but generally, over the course of a game of EDH, you want to draw lands fairly regularly. Land Tax helps immensely with that. It's also cool that it completely fills up your hand which can let you discard good stuff to reanimate, or makes your wheels / scroll rack activations / brainstorms much much better.

Avenger is a card with a very high ceiling if you can protect it late-game, which is why it's especially good in UG. Not my favorite finisher, it can backfire pretty hard as you mentioned, but it can potentially turn an empty board into one that wins you the game and that's good for one card.

>>
>>44286669
Your hand will decide that.
>>
>>44286564
It's not generally something I'd run, but I think in Meren it's really strong. In mine and a lot of other Meren decks, you need sac fodder. If you're playing more staxy, the tokens are great for dispensible fodder to Smokestack and the like. You can also get more just by recurring Avenger at the end of turn if you so desire. Even if you're not playing stax, the value of things like Grave Pact make them hard to pass up, so with an easy sac device like Ashnod's Altar, Avenger can help easily clear fields in a single turn.

Obviously Mana Crypt and Sol Ring need a ban. Unfortunately, Sheldon hates either EDH or poor people. We know this.

But! A similar card I don't see discussed often:

Does Mana Vault deserve a ban?
>>
>>44287586
Mana Vault is more often a ritual than ramp, unless you run shenanigans to untap it easily.
>>
>>44287586
It's a colorless Dark Ritual that's abusable in certain decks or combos.

Ban Derevi and Rings before thinking about Vault.

>>
>>44287586
Sol Ring does not need a ban. If you can't deal with Sol Ring then you're a shit player who cannot into Magic.
>>
>>44288292
I don't think so, kamigawa is literally the epitome of parasitism in MTG. being released adjacent to what was probably one of the most powerful blocks in magic history helped shine a glaring spotlight on all the flaws, but the flaws would have been ill-received regardless.
>>
>>44288292
I think it wouldve been recieved better if its abilities werent inclusive, but the powerlevel drop didnt help.

Similar thing happened with BFZ with Ingest, Process, Devoid, and Rally. Just keywords that are either not great, restrictive, only work with other things in the same set, or any combination of the above.
>>
>>44288526
Devotion was pretty good mechanic and constellation could've been incredible if they worked it better at the beginning of the set
>>
>>44288346
Lets not have the same argument again. We get it
>theres a lot of ways to answer Sol Ring
>but you wont always have answers
>run more removal
>still doesnt guarantee and eats spots
>ramp harder
>blah
>blah
>blah

Face it, Sol Ring is very powerful in early game and provides a mana boost later in the game. It is a card that can, and often is, run in every deck in every group whose banlist allows it. Cards have been banned for much much less. Does that mean its getting banned? Probably fucking not. Are people still going to bitch thats it not banned? Of fucking course. Does it deserve to be banned? By the criteria of a sane RC, yes, but the RC we have isnt necessarily sane.

In other words, deal with it and bitch about something else or to the RC about it.

While Ingest is indeed shit and only there for Processing, Processing itself is an interesting thing that works well with ORings/your opponents delving or using graveyard hate/flashback/all kinds of shit already in the game. A lot of the time, it's a free bonus that can also be a potential political tool.
Rally's a given, though to be fair it's better than Zendikar Allies in that regard.
Devoid is...an odd case. Overall it's a nonmechanic that's there for fluff purposes so they can make eldrazi-referencing stuff without the Tribal type and without it being literally tribal. On the other hand, Devoid helps against massive color hate like Iona and shit, so it's not completely worthless?

How can we help get them banned?

>>
>>44292521
The current rules committee will never ban them, because their philosophy is that they do nothing bad on their own and if they enable degenerate plays, then it's your deck's fault, and your fault as a player. They say that while Sheldon is freely admitting that for many years, he played with a houserule that you couldn't drop Sol Ring before turn 3 or 4, can't remember exactly.

They don't care about power level, they don't care about logic, they, for some incomprehensible reason, think that playing with Sol Ring is fun, and that's the only thing that matters to them: their own subjective idea of fun.

If you want Sol Ring banned, don't address the rules committee, don't start a petition, don't bother. Try to have the RC changed. Try to get WotC to take over EDH. The RC can NOT be reasoned with, ever, many have tried, all have failed. They've done some positive changes over the years but it's only been when a thing has been personally bothering them in their own metas, not because people asked.
>>
>>44292521
thing is, there's no official ban list for commander, only a recommended ban list that everyone unquestioningly follows. the RC uses this excuse to refuse to ban anything they don't want to no matter how much fuss people make because they can say "just house rule it" and dismiss everyone.

As most people should know by now, that just doesn't work if you have multiple playgroups. No other format tries to get away with this "just houserule it" mentality but EDH thinks it's special and doesn't have to play by the rules. The format is popular so that proves it works, right? :^)

Gonna make an Alesha deck.

What are some necessary cards? I have tons of R/W cards but very few Black ones. Already going to order a Reconnaissance and a Gustcloak Savior, but I'm not really sure what I should put in for targets.
>>
>>44292929
Master of cruelties is a good target for sure, so is Karmic guide, duplicant for combat tricks, Gary is also pretty decent. Then you have Siege gang commander and Raving dead as both decent possibilities.
>>
>>44292929
I'd want to get the new Drana but I'm a sucker for aggro.
>>
Wait is Erayo, Soratami Ascendant bannned in decks or just as commander?
>>
>>44293374
They removed the banned as commander list so it's banned altogether.

I want to make a Chaos/Grouphug deck with Mayael. What are some good cards to throw in there? I have Zhur-Tar Ancient in there, and I really like him, so I kind of want more big creatures that do things for my opponents and myself. Any suggestions?

Man. Had quite a night tonight.

>several people at LGS have extremely oppressive decks
>one dude has Rubinia control and a 1500$ Kozilek artifacts deck
>another runs sphinx tits combo, and yet another runs Chainer combo
>build mono blue artifacts with Jin-Gitaxias at the helm
>try deck out with close friends first
>they're running Lazav (my deck), Daretti, and Sliver Overlord
>get setup with mana doublers, get Jin out turn 5 so I can refill my hand
>they can't remove him, they lose their hands
>quickly turns into archenemy and they do everything they can to hurt me
>use constant card draw and counters to keep up with their artifact destruction
>lazav guy uses a token copy of Lorthos to try and tap down my board so he can kill me
>redirect everything to Spellskite
>he throws his deck (my deck) on the floor and scoops
>everyone else scoops
>promise not to use deck again
>they still don't want to play Magic anymore

Dangit. I just want to play with artifacts and produce infinite mana. I think I have a cancerous commander, though. What's a less oppressive mono blue commander that draws me cards? Arcanis?

Haha oh wow fucking casuals.

Also guys I'm building Edric as Fairy with some elves commander.
Should I bother running any elf lords? I got Scion of Oona for fairies cause it's cheap and shroud but I dunno about elves.

Also what are some good wincons?
So far I've got beastmasters and Cyclonic
>>
>>44293615
I'm not sure. What I have now is infinite combat with Aggravated Assault + Nature's Will, but I'm sure I'd need more than that.

>>44293631
I love it. I love everything about this card.
>>
>>44293687
>Should I bother running any elf lords?
Elvish Archdruid is bretty gud with elves, and Imperious Perfect has synergy w/ your commander. Could be worse desu
>>
>>44293651
Rayne, Academy Chancellor
Thassa (gives card parity)
>>
>>44293388
what extra bureaucracy? IT'S TEXT ON A FUCKING WEBPAGE, HOLY SHIT
>>
>>44293670
Any other good cards you know? That one is really good. Also, should I be building board wipes and whatnot just in case things get too intense?
>>
>>44293631
I actually made a casual deck with Boldwyr Heavyweights and a bunch of Gain Control effects, ended up working fairly well since people learnt pretty quick to not drop flop out their biggest dick so the Heavyweights usually ended up being one of the best things on the board.
>>
>>44293950
Rayne looks like like she wants to be in an enchantress deck, but she does draw me cards. I used to run Thassa when the deck was tribal sea monsters. I love her, but I think I'd prefer Arcanis over her.

Thanks for the suggestions though, anon.

>>44292788
muh phyrexia
muh shadows
muh corrupted sol ring
yeah its shit m8. It completely misses the point of the original art. Dumb concept for an alter.
>>
>>44294217
no prob, Arcanis is a great commander and I ran him for a long time but people will assume you're just running Azami 2.0 and go for your throat.
>>
>>44294315
Does arcanis + mind over matter = infinite draw? That would be a cool kill condition with psychosis crawler, or labratory maniac.
>>
>mfw one of the fuckers who started Tiny Leaders and almost killed EDH in my town now wants to play Peasant
Now THAT'S podracing, already tinkered a Spellheart Chimera list and I'm thinking about Nightscape Battlemage or Kathari Remnant too.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/peasants-chimera/

>>44294371
Yup, you can draw your whole deck with MOM and Arcanis
>>
>>44293651
Muzzio is fun. All he does is explode artifacts on the field and gives you a good boardsate. If you want to make him oppressive it's possible, but I just ran him as just a big machine producer
>>
>>44293562
add in Dictate of Karametra, keeper of progentius for some other mana doublers. add in other free stuff like hypergenesis, wild evocation, gate to the aether, and maybe omen machine if you dont run many draw spells
>>

Why is this card banned but similar power level cards are not?
>>

it's obviously a sol ring made on and it just so happens the black sun was rising at the time so it turned all black and shadowy and shit you dingus

nope. none at all. Graveyard hate is also useless. Though you have to kill their creatures first.
>>
>>44295034
>disenchanting Recurring Nightmare
Do you even know how that card works, anon?
>>
>>44295034

>Cast Erase
>In response they sac a creature, return Nightmare to their hand, and recast Nightmare on their next main phase

What now?
>>
>>44295034
>4/15/2013 If you cast this as normal during your main phase, it will enter the battlefield and you'll receive priority. If no abilities trigger because of this, you can activate its ability immediately, before any other player has a chance to remove it from the battlefield.

it's the same reason you can't bolt mind sculptor before it's controller uses his +2. instant speed graveyard hate and counterspells are the only way to deal with recurring nightmare loops
>>
>>44295215
That doesn't work anon. The correct way to use Recurring Nightmare is to hold priority once it hits and immediately use its ability.

can't even k-grip it if they're smart and activate it's ability as soon as it hits the battlefield
>>
>>44295277
If they are playing correctly you never have a chance to cast that.
>>

There are people in this very thread who think you can disenchant a sorcery with Buyback 0.
>>
>>44293651
But you could only change one of Lorthos's targets with spellskite.

Third from the bottom ruling.

It's fine in some decks and some metas. I don't run it though, I used to but it never hit the right things, replaced it with Red Elemental Blast in my Sunforger package.
