Well in my last game i had to drink a magic potion given to me by a fey to let my party go.

Well, I take the Elder Scrolls approach: I consider most beastfolk (but especially Catfolk, thanks to their many and varied representations) to have a high degree of interspecies morphology. So if your idea of beastfolk is just the ears and tail, fine. But they're still part of the same race as the guys who are just upright animals, and everyone will acknowledge that.
It's also easier when you don't have seperate mechanics for what are just representations of the same idea.

Catboys are way more fetishistic than anthro characters, and much more of a red flag. There are only two reasons why someone would want to play one: They are weeaboo's, or they think they are sexy, and often both.
Anthro characters, meanwhile, have been present in folklore since the literal Stone Age. Catboys (and girls) are exclusively animé bullshit.
