Can we have a "worst /tg/ experience" thread? Not necessarily caused by That Guy, just situations where you had an awful time altogether

>be me
>not absolutely unattractive but hella ugly
>friend tells me about a game she's planning, she's gonna be the GM
>i ask her if i can join in and be a fluffy dog knight for shits and giggles
>she says yes
>oh well i was actually joking but what can you do, i plan my fluffy dog knight
>i get to her house and she's with a girl friend
>turns out the entire party was girls and i'm the only guy she invited because i was the only one who asked to join
>a little unusual but hey, it's just another game
>my character is introduced to the party
>ugly sounds of adorableness in-character
>session goes on
>the remarks on FDK are getting out of hand and stepping into OOC territory
>hair/beard starts getting ruffled by hands of people i have no idea who they are
>get increasingly uncomfortable as the session goes on
>clearly furfag girl starts asking me more and more magical realm questions
>i ask if we can have a small pause so i can go out and have a smoke
>i never return
>i never see them again
>the session is never mentioned again by my friend

i've never been that uncomfortable in my entire life, who the fuck goes out of their way to physically engage someone you barely know and who shows clear discomfort when doing so?
i didn't know That Guys came in female

pic related, it's me

Well I've only actually done one session but it got pretty uncomfortable pretty quick

>Play a character that's dumb and impulsive (because I know I can't actually roleplay much else as I am not really bright or creative)
>Usually end up with stupid plans in my head and ask the DM if I can pull them off
>DM Says fine, but 99% of the time no one else wants to do anything by themselves
>Know I'm hogging the spot light but don't quite know how to stop other than just not do anything when situations happen

Also in general it's pretty uncomfortable to be at a table where the group knows each other well and they are still arguing and you can't really do anything but sit there.

I guess I'm just not cut out for roleplaying, haven't played a game since that group disolved, guess I'm not cut out for it.

OP clearly barely knows what females are or that his friend was trying to introduce him to a bunch of her friends. Possibly for hookups, or she wanted someone reliable there. He hasn't said anything else about the game.

My first D&D encounter was pretty bad. I didn't know what to do, didn't know most of the folks there, and had invited two of my friends who actually bothered to set up decent characters. It ended with us getting nowhere because someone decided their character got drunk and started going con checks for literal pissing contests.

About the time the party cleric started pooping down a chimney in this debauchery, my two friends just walked out. I then had to wait two hours listening to potheads talk about Klaus Nomi and hentai they beat off to.

I really like when people play with my hair so that actually sounds nice.

My worst experience was the 3 sessions my friend offered to DM. It was terrible. Nothing made sense in-game, he had a shitty attitude about it, and it culminated in him killing us all and saying "I'm bored. Go back to DMing (me)." I've already posted about it at length on /tg/ before so I wont now. The only good thing about it was someone asking me after I typed the whole thing up "Did your friend get vaccinated before DMing? Because that's the only way someone could be that autistic". Love that line.

Jesus fucking christ, this 100 times.

I've been doing campaigns with a group of friends online, starting out pretty basic homebrews and slowly revving up.

I'm just about to start a campaign, and I've done so much prep for it. Set up like 3 months play on Roll20, scowered PDF threads for everything I could possibly need, the lot.

The previous times I've tried to play with them It's been

>X, can you perform a POW check?
>"Uhhh, anon, can you do it? I'm in game right now"

There are definitely some people in the group that are dedicated, but if it happens like that again I'm taking the ones who actually want to play and finding people online to make up the rest.

I wonder how many others are in my situation?

>A Group. All amazing, creative and good friends. United by shared love of crazy and we speak every night.

>B Group. Two terrible, hateful, bitter shut ins who have ruined their life by marrying a parasite/being literally cucked and have only two modes. Constant, venomous sarcasm and whinging passive aggressive pity-me. One guy who is only there out of rapidly fading loyalty to the first two, since we were friends in high school. The GM's GF who literally does not want to be there, gives one word responses and loathes us all for invading her lair for a night. Finally the DM, who did psychology once and thinks he can magically reunite us all through stupid shit we enjoyed ten years ago.

A Group is amazing. Not a single problem there.

B Group... those guys are quick to whine and complain about anything bad, swift to inject their personal real problems as an "I win" card to any sort of conflict and if they're not getting constant flattery and victories they're on their phone texting their hag wives and sighing and complaining.

The only reason me and the GM don't toss this aside is because we're both quietly worried these two will literally kill themselves. My cup of sympathy ran dry for these cunts long ago, yet once a month, we all meet up for not a game, but for some inverted therapy session where we ego wank two broken manchildren.

Several years ago, the only LGS in the city closed. For a year or two, this meant driving to other cities for prerelease and launch party events, which was kind of fun.
Eventually, a new place opened up, Gamerz Lair. It was small and out of the way, but it was local, so people showed up. The first few times I went, something seemed off, but I couldn't quite figure it out. Then came the first prerelease, where it finally hit me.
Small space, tiny might actually be a better word.
Completely full with the kind of people you'd expect to be at an MtG event.
Practically no air circulation.
I think there might have been air conditioning? If there was, it was very slight. About fifteen minutes into deckbuilding the place smelled like rotting cats, last week's garbage, and cat lady scent.
I made top 8.

A few years ago a friend of mine knew someone who wanted to run a game of D&D.
He had a world map he'd made with 'clever' names that were puns or references (which we did not get, much to his disappointment) that I tried to follow, but he never seemed to stick to it consistently, e.g. in travel times, compass directions and so on. That was a common theme. He got mad a lot when we used something he said only for it to not be true any more.
Oh, and all the gods were the core deities with minor name changes for some reason ('More-Odin' as Moradin, ect).
He hated RP. This is not an exaggeration, it was something he told us- he liked combat, nothing else and that's all we got. If we planned something for more than thirty seconds he got visibly bored and irritable.
Anyway, he ran an adventure module and skipped all the details leaving only two dimensional enemies to fight, who would fight silently to the death or die to avoid interrogation if captured. I ducked behind a wall and tried to talk to someone shooting at me only to get called a coward and have my turn skipped.

We didn't get any description for our journey between encounters so I assume we walked through miles of perfectly featureless caves. It was always "You see some orcs", "it's a room. There's a bed".
There were also some pretty obvious rails. We nearly went to 'the wrong cave' and this NPC ranger turned up every day to poke us in the 'right' direction.
Even after nearly two months, he still only had a rough idea of the rules for fighting (and nothing of the rest...). He called a session off because a player couldn't make it. I'm paraphrasing here but he added 'if it was just talking to people that would be fine, [you] could just fill him in at the next session'.
I'm not a fan of 'critical fumbles' so his inconsistent inclusion of them, including a second attack roll to 'confirm the fumble' (in theory the number would denounce the severity, but it changed all the time) did not help matters.
>>
>>44249115

It can still be mildly fun if the mechanics/setting are interesting: my Dark Heresy game worked because everybody was a fan of WH40k and the Inquisition gives (at low levels) a compelling reason to party together: your psyker died, so you get a slap on the wrist and a new one. GMing it can be fairly simple since the typical investigation arc is mostly pre-planned, with a few conditionals and maybe some options for the GM is they kill the wrong NPC. But to ignore it altogether - and even the setting, as he describes - would just make it soulless number crunching.

Girls ask to touch my beard and moustache at bars all the time, and seem taken aback when I say no. I try to be polite, but the thought of a drunk stranger touching my face makes me pretty uncomfortable.

My worst session was my first session. Similarly, all women, besides me, only they were all adults and I was a 6th grader.
>lied to me about how stats work and told me my character was too dumb to speak at 7 INT
>made my character a literal slave to the other characters
>DM makes me fuck up all night
>I end up killing everyone by flooding a room and everyone blames me because my character is too dumb

What the flying fuck? That sounds like some harmful abuse of authority. What was your relation to them?

what the fuck? who the fuck does that kind of shit?

Yep, that makes me pretty uncomfortable.

>Game eventually breaks up because the token girl and the guy playing what's basically The Punisher as a warlock can't agree on what "Chaotic Good" is. GM agrees with the girl that "good doesn't kill" because he wants to put his dick in her.
>Another guy basically appointed himself co-GM and make up/changed rules whenever he saw fit.
>Last guy read the adventure book the GM was using and made it really obvious.
>GM basically stopped making things happen and froze up every time we went slightly off the book's rails.
>Session 7 and we were still level 2

Holy shit it was like all the negative PnP sterotypes in one room.

I went to the FLGS. No one there is worth hanging out with. I decided to just continue playing once a week with friends instead of looking for a midweek game.

The DM was worse. Pretty much the entire campaign my character was slapped down from attempting to perform basic action so that That Guy, a wizard, could do the thing instead.

It was the real reason I quit in the end. Not only was I regularly treated as less than an equal member of the group, the DM felt like letting me do literally anything interesting would somehow offend the edgy necromancer. He always insisted that "No, you're character type is more about this kind of thing than that kind of thing," defining to ME what MY character was supposed to be.

When I confronted him about it, he gave me shit like it was my fault for wanting to be that kind of character. He also criticized me for making an "extra caster," but I didn't know That Guy was a wizard until we showed up Day 1 with our characters already made. In the end, he closed the argument with an "I'm sorry you feel that way," and I said "Fuck this I'm done."

Was basically the closing statement on the friendship actually, which has caused me quite a bit of depression, because I'd known the guy since Kindergarten, and it feels more and more like he's gotten the rest of the circle of friends to shut me out as a result of my talking back to him.

Well, while it is your fault for wanting to play that character, and that is why I always ask what's going down with other characters, I gotta say, broham, it's totally not cool that they're judging you based on your character. I've magical realmed a few sluts, but damn if I ain't nothin but a prude (point being we are not our characters)
>>
>>44258585
Amendment: It is not your fault for playing an "extra caster" or effects of said character were what they were.
>>
>>44258417
I've seen something similar. Some people really invest themselves in stupid 'I'm the alpha male' power-play behaviour. It annoys me when someone elects themselves as the 'boss' of your friend circle or game group. Theirs is the only valid opinion, you either get behind them or they will try to ruin you.
>>
>>44258417
I actually did the reverse once. Pathfinder, point buy, requested the ability to bring intelligence down to 3 on my sorcerer with nothing in exchange.

Managed, while in character (and bow did I played him dumb), to outwit another player on a few basis and took great pride in calling him "not so quick".

I love sorcerers sometimes.

> Be me running a campaign
> three regulars and one guy who can only show up once in a while because of work
> the three regulars are pretty chill: a cleric, a barbarian and a ranger/archer type
> the fourth guy is a wizard and tends to sort of 'take charge' of the group when he's there
> I meet a guy playing Warhammer who says he's interested in playing in the campaign
> he's never really RP'd before but he's always wanted to try but his regular Warhammer group are all normies
> I ask the group, the three regulars are down, but the guy who only shows up from time to time isn't so sure
> next week my three regulars sit down with the new guy who is playing a fighter and is very chill
> he just sort of tags along and beats guys up with the barbarian when shit goes down
> it's actually one of the best sessions we've had
> the next three weeks wizard guy is absent and honestly the new group of four is way better gelled than that old group had been
> new guy is coming into his own and has become sort of 'second in command' to the barbarian who has come forward as leader
>>
>>44263090

> then wizard guy comes back
> right off the bat he starts trying to make snide comments and generally be a dick to new guy (who isn't really new any more)
> it's super fucking uncomfortable and the three regulars are all kind of shooting me looks like 'do something!'
> about 45 minutes in we're taking a break and wizard goes out for a smoke
> new guy goes 'oh I'll come too'
> weird, he's never smoked at our group before
> not even two minutes later they both come back in
> wizard guy's eyes are all red and his hair is messed up
> I ask him if he's OK and he says he's fine and we get back to the session
> no more friction, wizard guy just sort of goes along with everything barbarian guys says
> after the session wizard guy is out the door like a fucking lightning bolt
> I ask new guy what's up
> he says 'oh I had a talk with him'
>Turns out when wizard guy went to light his smoke new guy just grabbed him by the throat and slapped the fuck out of him.
> Wizard guy never comes back, fighter guy is now a regular in our group.
>>
>>44261612
Oh, yeah, I played a barbarian as super dumb despite him having an 8 Int because we used standard array.
It was kind of a running gag I made sure the others were okay with and didn't get out of hand.
The wizard, being a bit of a dick and a bit tired of Mr. Notsobright yammering about inane things, gave him a set of fake keys to get him to go away.
So I had the barb try them on every lock he could find before returning and telling said wizard he was stupid for carrying a set of keys that didn't open anything.
The wizard player's face was priceless.

You sound alright anon. You clearly want to engage with the game, which makes you a good player.
I'd enjoy having you in one of my games. Don't think there's any problem with you.
>>
>>44263149

Meh. Wizard guy told me all about it in hopes of getting me to ban the guy from the group and when I refused he even went to the owner of the FLGS and tried to get him to ban our group.

FLGS guy was just like 'never fucking again' and I said, 'I promise it won't happen again' and he was cool with it.

Wizard guy was really irregular in his appearances and the other four were all FLGS regulars even if new guy was new to our group.

Money talks.

Been trying to find a stable group ever since.

Dude, why wouldn't there be THAT GIRL GMs?
Not to go into antiwomen bullshit, but there are assholes of all kinds out there!

For example, one time I went to a game organised by the teachers in my school when I was 17. Who would have guessed those guys even gamed? The average age all around was 50, but seeing as they all worked with tons of people all day and were nice, I assumed they'd be cool and not the "antisocial awkward loner" image I had of gamers.
Turns out that rolling dice turns their GM into a kid-hating asshole
>I get bullied by my own teachers that I considered as nice fun guys, if kinda old
>Get forced to lick their spilled drink off my Tshirt
>lose a father figure that day
>end up running out of the room when they start going too far after the beer arrives

But at least I discovered that /tg/ games had sweet books! So I did buy one in the end, and eventually got my friends to play.
