Why? What purpose does it serve? At what point in an assassination mission could a five foot long rope of hair serve a single functional use?

It's attached to the suit, not the person.

Anyway, seeing as the Callidus are more or less all about the job and not the person, I would imagine they have a shaved head, maybe a few scars on the face from combat/surgery, with a normal, generic looking face. Like a Kreigger.

I imagine the synskin for them, is literally their new skin. Beneath it they're flayed, with the suit bonded to their body by polymorphine.

This serves several purposes. One, it makes the suit far more a part of the assassin, it changes with them, and it feels natural to them.
The second is that it enables direct access to the flesh beneath. When at the temple, the suit is removed in parts, to allow direct access to organs and such for modification. This aids in replicating xenos species that are especially alien, such as genestealer hybrids.
As a third result, the suit helps stop Callidus assassins turning traitor. When the polymorphine wears off, the suit begins to separate from the body. And the assassin is left a skinless freak, soon to die.

There was an old white dwarf comic about a Callidus impersonating a corrupt gov aide to get close to the government before killing him. She looked like a blond at athletic woman before the suit morphed on her.

Jesus guys, the suit is spray on super space tech. Old novel described an inquisitior's callidus' gear, which included several applicatiors of suit and solvent to remove the suit

I am surprised nobody has posted the assassins comic. Doesn't it show like the whole time what the assassin looks like underneath, then the assassin finally puts on their suit thing at the end? Or was their initial look a disguise and totally not what they look like underneath?

Not one mention of mehlindi. You had one job /tg/

Here, have a picture of a callidus assassin who is impersonating an eldar. The Inquisition war trilogy is full of descriptions of callidus assassins outside of their suits, as one of the main characters is one.
>>
>>44243013
I like that version of Eldar armor
>>
>>44243013

Oh that was a callidus? All this time I thought that was a real eldar
>>
>>44243013

Draco's tale shows clearly how Inquisitors' priorities improve through their careers. The first book was your typical hunt for an ancient conspiracy to destroy the human race. By the third book Draco's primary concern was resurrecting his Callidus waifu.
>>
>>44243013
let's ignore the fact that those books were written in the RT era and most of the fluff presented in Inquisition War changed.

for example meh'lindi is manually injecting polimorphine to shapeshift, or that polimorphine is even a thing.
read Nemesis from the HH series. the Callidus presented there is way different. for example, it no longer has a gender, it's just an androgynous creature with facial features more akin to a grey alien than a human being.
>>
>>44243313

That's a 30K callidus. 40K calliduses are different
>>
>>44243205

well, 40k calliduses are shitty. calliduses need no real identity. their whole life is about impersonating others for a mission.

>>44233476
Why does she wear the mask?
>>
>>44243522
Well her face gotta change too.

Uuuu
>>
>>44243318

It depends. Koyne in the Nemesis book used a neutral form (and was brainwashed so didn't remember the original sex), but that was not the default form of all Callidus and the leader of the temple used a female form in meetings with other temple masters and Malcador. M'shen also defaulted into female form in the flashbacks of Soul Hunter.
>>
>>44243835

Most calliduses are female originally because females can use polymorphine more often than men. It's probably something about the XX rather than XY chromosome combination.

If they adopt a neuter or even male form later that's just because they can shift.
>>
>>44243893

Dorn forces the Temple Masters to expose their true selves in that book. Their default forms are also nothing alien, though the identities were super secret.

>There was a moment of hush; then movement. Sire Vindicare was first, pulling the spy mask from his face as if he were glad to be rid of it. Then Sire Eversor, who angrily tossed his fang-and-bone disguise on to the table. Siress Callidus slipped the silk from her dainty face, and Vanus and Venenum followed suit. Sire Culexus was last, opening up his gleaming skull mask like an elaborate metal flower.

>The assassins looked upon their naked identities for the first time and there was a mixture of potent emotions: anger, recognition, amusement.

>“Better,” said Dorn.

>“Now you have stripped us of our greatest weapon, Astartes,” said Siress Callidus, a fall of rust-red hair lying unkempt over a pale face. “Are you satisfied?”
>>
>>44243960
>anger, recognition, amusement.

Why would they recognize each other? Assassins are trained in temples from birth, they have no outside identities other than false ones during missions.

That smells like retcons to me.
>>
>>44244201
Dude. These guys were the ones that started the Officio Assassinorum.
>>
>>44244201

That may be true for the rank and file but not for the leadership of the temples.

>The Sigillite knew that if he put his will to it, he could uncover the true faces of every one of the Directors Primus. But he had never pursued this matter; there had never been the need. The fragile state of grace in which the leaders of the Officio Assassinorum existed had served to keep them all honest; no single Sire or Siress could ever know if their colleagues, their subordinates, even their lovers were not behind the masks they saw about the table. The group had been born in darkness and secrecy, and now it could only live there as long as the rules of its existence were adhered to.

The assassins aren't killbots without personalities, though they are devoted. Asaid Virenus and also that Maerorus temple incident show that they can go traitor even without Chaos involvement though.
>>
>>44233844
Can they... expand them... to accommodate... smuggling andm u-uh... other spy-related things?
>>

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I was surprised as hell that the Eversor actually had a name
>>
>>44246053

I think the expectations of some fans are warped by all the speculation and hyperbole thrown about in the internet. Temple Assassins are more "normal" than some might think, space marines aren't deformed musclemen whose dicks have been devoured by their abs etc etc
>>
>>44246053

>Bob Eversor
>>
>>44246253

I think it's a combination of really pervasive internet fanon and some remnants of older fluff which isn't canon anymore. A lot of people on /tg/ seem to still believe that more or less anything you read in a book published under a previous version of 40K still holds true even when it's probably been changed several times since then.

In the case of assassins, the Codex Assassins was released for either 2nd or 3rd edition (can't remember) and it's really quite outdated by now fluff-wise.
>>
>>44245266

Execution force was a good read. Anyone listen to The Emperor's Judgement by Joe Parrino ?

And I believe it's a spray on suit. It's why muscles show, but nipples do not. Nipples get pushed down.

In that Assassin comic book, the "morphed" person they're impersonating sort of ripple fades away, they then are just "the assassin" and the victim knows that the Emperor's Judgement has come.

Novels refer to SMs as done like angels, thats a direct if lesser known reference to castration and / or the whole penis removed but I think it varies between chapters SW for example seem to have none of that shit.

People headcannon the fluff because its inconsistent, half remembered, and often presented subtly.

Pretty much anything involving orks and eldar fluff you can expect the bulk of /tg/ to be brutally inaccurate.

Even if they are a samefag, they're not me.

I just figured that Callidus needed some more grimdark, and a way to control them. Otherwise you'd see more rebels like Virenus, although she's the worst of them, given the hyperpolymorphine she has.
>>
>>44263252

None depicted so far, but perhaps possible. The way Assassin candidates are selected and the nature of the temples' roles probably makes it the least likely though.

Assassins are recruited as teens, and mostly from the Schola. The recruiters put them through hunger games immediately in the ships on their way to Terra, and only on Terra is their temple decided. Eversors take the youngest candidates because their augmentation requirements. Safe to say that the probability of youngest survivors being girls, and not suitable for either Callidus or Vindicare temples is not high.
>>
>>44263581

I thought I read that the temples recruit extremely promising candidates from other sources as well, like Vindicare snipers from IG regiments? Though now that I think about it that probably wouldn't work with Eversors anyway
>>
>>44264113

According to the dataslate the vast majority come the schola route. I think the exceptions are mostly Culexus, but there may be others. Virenus (the rogue Callidus) was not from Schola but a criminal and an impostor from some hive world with an impressive record for a teen.
>>
>>44264254

I imagine Culexus have to take what they can. No guarantee any of the kids at the Schola have the null gene.

Callidus and Vindicares could be recruited from other sources too I guess.

>>
>>44265053

Might happen during extraordinary circumstances, like if the girl is unnaturally talented and an inquisitor notices.

Generally nobles who want self-improvement are forced to just go to gym which keeps them within normal human limits. All augmentation technology available to them even from the black market is in some way inferior to Space Marine augs and even more so to Assassinorum augs. Cybernetics make you a badMagos at best, and gets Mechanicus pissed off. Chaos can give you strong powers but chances are you'll become hideously ugly and insane and will probably get killed by a real Marine or Assassin.
>>
>>44262535

Normally they are kept dormant in a state of semi-hibernation. They are conscious but insane and are programmed to immediately go after the target they are implanted with during transport.

In one of the HH books, a group of assassins is sent after Horus, I don't remember which one exactly but I think it involved the Mechanicum so probably Mechanicum. There they have an Eversor, shoot him full of tranquilizers, he doesn't have a set target yet and he gets time to regain his senses.

The downside is there's not enough of the stuff to make any real difference.

I recall in Nemesis the was mention of a lot of shaping organs implanted into them to help them. I wanna say there a mention of them being removable too, like surgical zips all over the body so they can change their implants as the mission dictates for the broad strokes of changing their mass while the drugs help with the fine details. Though I might be confusing the zips and scars for that walking organ incubator/cooler/donor from Franken Fran.

Honestly, I'd imagine they just look a lot like Deadpool when they're not in disguise; nasty twisted splotchy and generally unkind on the eyes
