This is Boruto Quest, a quest set in the universe of Naruto. It is during the generation of Naruto's son, shortly after everyone has graduated from their Genin exam. I haven't kept up with the series beyond the end of the original one, so this one is intended to recapture the feel of that time of Naruto. I will not be incorporating the main show or the Boruto movie's plot into the quest, although some recognizable characters will be present. You play as a 12 year old Genin graduate named Takeshi. You have been assigned a Jounin squad leader named Hanto, and your two squadmates are Kichiro, a young delinquent, and Ai, a strange social outcast of a girl. You are of average skill in most aspects, although your sharp intelligence has recently been making itself apparent. Preparations for the final tournament of the Chunin Exams has begun, and Genin all over the Leaf Village training under wise masters. Shikamaru is in charge of your instruction, and you're currently in the middle of grueling training!

Hey, everyone. We're going to speed through these last few choices and get the tournament fights started tonight! I'll probably only run for a few hours, but things are going to move fast.

---

It's the next morning, once you're done with your Sealing Jutsu training with Shikamaru. You mentally look back on how you had been before the month started as you slowly awaken, and a sense of shock overwhelms you. The difference between the things you could do and how you are at this moment is astronomical. It makes you feel as if the Forest had only been troubling to you because you were ill prepared.

Or maybe, the Forest is what has prepared you for what's to come. You have to be broken down first to be rebuilt, right? That happened pretty thoroughly in the forest.

You clench your fist as you sit on the edge of your bed. The coming tournament's weight is bearing down on you, more than ever before. You stand up and shower before getting some breakfast.

>C. Train Stamina
We need to get so tough and untiring that we wear down our opponents, as the Underdog Seal is useful for that. This is why I'm glad we got Soldier Pills.
>>
>>44216672
We should take upon ourselves to find an upgrade for them pills.

>Super Soldier Pills
>>
>>44216672
Rather not get hit than be untiring. Being tough won't stop a gentle first, chidori, chakra enhanced fist, or rasengan from wrecking our ass.
>>
I feel like we should be able to fit stamina/strength/speed training under one regiment.

Because as you get stronger, don't you get faster and gain more endurance?
>>
>>44216717
Well, I meant tough as in not ever getting winded and wearing down our opponent. This fits well with poison as it allows us to refresh ourselves while the enemy languishes. A battle of attrition if you will.
>>
>>44216717
I concur lets not get hit to start with
>B
>>
>>44216752
No. You lift weights for strength, and do cardio for endurance. Practice what you want to be faster at to improve speed and reflexes.

>Food for thought
IF we manage to lock down Boruto for long enough, we should mind fuck him! by this i mean we use the interrogation technique while he is parallelized and extract some lessons of how he learn the Rasingan apply what we extract to our own learning! Hell we could even us it on willing targets to witness past battles!
>>
>>44216853
So wait.

Boruto didn't inherit the Byakugan? Lame.
>>
>>44216414
>B. Train Speed
>>
>>44216853
I was thinking that proposing a challenge to Boruto would work. Like, we know that in a battle we would have to get lucky and be smart to win, where as he can almost instantly shred us. Tell him that if he can withstand a single jutsu from us, that he can prove himself even more of a legend. Hopefully he accepts, then we use Interrogation. If he does hold up, then we should probably hold to the deal, if not, we win.

It seems like a stupid idea, but it might be a good chance.
>>
>>44216893
Makes our job messing with him with Faze Clones easier, our biggest issue will be cornering the little douche with all those clones, and if we get hit we are as good as done for :/
>>
>>44216893
Nope, but his sister did. Funny huh? Maybe he was such a jerk that Hyuga genes noped out?

>>44216923
Genjutsu works REALLY well on him compared to his sister or Sarada.
>>
>>44216909
could do that, go for the Knowledge and hell even if we loose we may get something outta him (could poker face it and tease him about knowing a little secret of his). If all goes well we could blackmail him into surrendering!
>>
>>44216818
Don't worry bro, I never do.
>>
Once you meet with Shikamaru, you tell him that you'd like to do some speed training.

He nods. "That's good. I was thinking about suggesting the same thing. You see, this entire month I've been taking your choices into consideration and trying to think of the best advice that I could give you for the tournament. I may not be willing to teach you my clan's Ninjutsu, and I may not be the best teacher for everything else, but making you a well rounded, well prepared shinobi has been my goal this entire time. I think with that alone, you'll do just fine against anything."

You smile, a mile wide. "Thank you sensei. I didn't know you thought so highly of me."

He grins slyly. "I guess I can be a little critical, but it's because it gets results. Or, we'll see if it does, at least."

You spend the next two days doing mostly reaction-based exercises, and lengthy sprints to strengthen your legs. You're easily fast enough to keep up with the majority of Genin that you had met in the Forest when they clearly outdid you before.

After the training, Shikamaru gives you his final words of advice.

"Takeshi. This has been quite a unique experience, training someone one on one that wasn't my son. I've never really had a personal student or squad of Genin before, and I think it's safe to say that after this I might look into it again. Years ago, when I was your age, my sensei saw that I had a certain spark of potential in me, and he showed me that there are things more important than being comfortable, and gazing at the clouds."

You weren't really sure what he meant, but you nodded all the same listening intently. "I see that same spark in you, Takeshi. It makes me curious for the future. Good luck."
>>
by the way guy, what do we look like/what are we wearing? I did some shitty art for Laze's Quest and may try here too.
>>
You bow, and head to the weapon's shop to resupply yourself. You stock up on your standard equipment, including senbon, generic poison, (10 uses), caltrops, kunai, shuriken, wire (5 uses), flash bombs, and Shino's bug venom. (3 uses)

You haven't done any missions in quite a while, but you haven't spent too much money either since then. Training has kept you busy. You'll be able to afford any of the following items.

You don't really have time or money for something like that as a hobby. If you were serious about getting involved with forging and the like, you could ask Tenten about a part-time job. It's the only way, really. Store has it's own smithing facilities and Tenten will teach you.

>B. Two Fuuma Shuriken

Far more utility.
>>
>>44217265
I'm down. Plus if we ever use up our weapons or they get taken we could just use anything around us and transform it into an object of death!

Plus it's a nice skill to have for someone as average as Takeshi.

>>

>>
>>44217413
You're not really going to be able to do anything crazy with smithing.

Anything you would be talented enough to make, Tenten could forge it ten times better, faster, and cheaper. Not to mention with the developments in science and technology over the last decades, there's not too much in the way of exploration. Most of the rapid advances in warfare are purely scientific, such as the Kote, Chakra Armor, Anzai's Rifle, ect.
>>
>>44217460
What about a chakra-based railgun that uses lightning chakra? Or a long-range water cutter that can use water chakra to cut through a foot of steel from thirty feet with ease?
>>
>>44217460
Well getting Tenten new weapons and armor schematics could be side goal. We see new equipment from other villages all the time. Analyze, sample and research it for her and pass it on.
>>
>>44217492
Not entirely unreasonable, but Takeshi doesn't know dick about inventing stuff.

>>44217521
that's possible, especially since if you pass you'll be pushed along to Intelligence, which deals often with foreign technological advances
>>
>>44217492

You end up purchasing the two Fuuma Shuriken, the type that are collapsible for easy transport. Folding them up and then stringing them onto your back with a leather strap that came with the purchase, they rest at an angle that makes it easy for you to tear them free and unleash.

Tenten wishes you luck on your way out. You had intended to stop by the flower shop as well, but when you arrive you see that there's a closed sign hanging on the front door. Apparently they're busy preparing flower arrangements for the tournament tomorrow. You gulp, feeling a bit of dryness in your throat. Tomorrow is the tournament. Is there anything you want to do on the final night of your month of training?

It's the day. Your match was first, much to your surprise. You were hoping that it'd at least be later in the tournament a bit, so you could settle into the vibe and get a feel for the crowd. Scout out the situation. But you're being thrown directly into the pit, it seems. You had looked at the massive arena, easily several hundred meters wide and perfectly circular. The concrete and steel enforced walls rise more than fifty meters as well, having been raised in recent years as the Chunin Exams have become increasingly explosive.

As you sit on the stairs that lead down to the arena, you feel cold sweat on your fingertips. The door below opens and a shinobi wearing a headset pokes his head in. "You're up."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-Z5AwHE_JM

You clench your fists, and stand up sharply. "Right."

As you're marching down the stairs, you take a surprisingly serious face compared to your general demeanor. These fights are no joke. You can't allow failure after how far you've come, and any threat seems infantile in comparison to the thought of that failure.

You swing open the doors, and you're briefly blinded by light as you walk forward. The crowd is cheering at a mild volume, and you can plainly see Usagi entering from the other side of the arena. Chills are consuming your body as you feel the weight of the crowd bearing down on you, but when you compare it to the heat of the sun, or the sharp edges of stone, it all washes away.

You take a deep breath, looking down towards the ground. You look up slowly on the exhale, completely calming your mind and eliminating all distractions. Your mental training, your physical training, your experience, it's all been building up to this moment.
>>
>>44218527

You lock gazes with your enemy, standing staunch and tail. He's several inches taller than you with medium length black hair, and tanned skin. His eyes are narrow and incredibly sharp, though hidden behind a pair of clear goggles. There's a hawk's feather tucked into the side of his Stone headband.

When you see him looking back at you, he meets your fiery determination with what seems to be confusion, or curiosity. Like he just can't quite peg you. Neither of you say a word of trash talk, however.

The proctor, Udon, stands between you. "Begin!" and leaps away.

Usagi remains completely motionless, opting to analyze just as he had done with Inojin. It seems the ball is in your court.

The crowd yells above you for action, vibrating the air.

>A. Throw a flash bomb at him, and then charge with Taijutsu

He'd disrupt the illusion as soon as he moved. False Place is purely visual

Analyze his movements. We'll throw the senbons under the shadow of the Fuuma Shuriken with our Shadow Shuriken Jutsu. The Haze Clone shall be used to confuse him if he moves, combined with the False Noise jutsu so he'll never be able to pinpoint exactly where we are.

Sounds good for you guys?

I concur, lets set him up. I think he is playing coy so we don't expect him to do something brutal
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRW-docvWxA

You flick open your weapon's pouch and draw out the specially prepared senbon with bells that you have. These contain a clear, difficult to see length of wire. With a quick wrist motion, the senbon are sent flying. Only one of them has the string attached, while the other two with bells are the real distractions. Usagi simply leans out of the way of the two that were on target, and lets the third slip by completely unnoticed. They stick in the dirt behind him, falling in an arc, just as you'd thrown them.

Usagi holds up his boy, and you clench the fist holding the wire. Your movement is going to be somewhat restricted if you want to hold onto this thing to activate the jutsu, so you'll have to wait for an opening as you dodge his attacks.

Activating the jutsu now would reveal your trick. If you can activate it and not only maintain it, it should extremely disorient him.

You'll have to grit your teeth through it. Hopefully you fair better than Inojin.

>A. Dodge the arrows with your speed, and then throw the senbon without bells before using the Paralyzing Bells jutsu.
>B. Throw a flash bomb, then throw the senbon without bells before using the Paralyzing Bells jutsu.
>C. Throw a smoke bomb. He won't be able to see you, and you'll be able to activate your jutsu. You won't be able to see him, however, so you'll miss the paralysis stage of the jutsu as the smoke dissipates, moving directly to the clone illusion phase.

Not really. They don't have any natural defenses, and once you deprive them of weapons, armor and drop them off in the wilderness to hunt they're very dumb.

There's actually a quest on another site where they gave Hinata a bow. And also naruto learned sealing like a proper Uzumaki.

The results were demon-fox-empowered explosive arrows from several kilometers away.

As he pulls the bowstring back, you tense your body and sling down a flash bomb between the two of you. You cover your eyes briefly as the bright flash shrouds the arena. You can here the crowd gasp in confusion and annoyance as much of them are momentarily blinded. Pulling your arm away from your eyes and reaching down to grab some senbon, you move with fluid grace as you sling the senbon without bells in his direction.

As you've got your hand in your weapon's pouch and your eyes lock on his position, you find that he was holding a finger to the side of his goggles. Seeing you reach for your pouch, he immediately drew his bow back up and fired off an arrow.

The thing is lightning fast, but your reflexes have been pushed to the limit. By rolling to the left you dodge the arrow, and it vibrates loudly as it pierces the dirt. As you're standing back up, an arrow flies just behind your left calf and shreds your pants. You think it may have scratched you, but you decide not to worry about it, opting to take off sprinting.

The wire for your jutsu is clenched tightly in hand, and it seems that flash bombs won't work on Usagi. You have your senbon without bells in the other hand.

What do you want to do?

>A. Throw the senbon in your hand to distract him as you grab your fuuma shuriken. Unfold it, and spin it as hard as you can. Maybe it can function as a makeshift shield?
>B. Throw down a smoke bomb, and activate your Genjutsu. Use the time he's paralyzed for Haze Clone Jutsu.
>C. Throw your senbon, and place the wire in your mouth. Activate Haze Clone Jutsu, and then use Paralyzing Bells to hit him with a surprise attack.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYpySN0SwAY

You pull the wire up and clench it between your teeth, rapidly forming through handsigns to reveal one of your newest jutsu. Your chakra flares sharply just before it activates, and the fine control that you have over this chakra empowers the jutsu further. All around you dozens of clones of yourself start to appear, each and every one looking happy and carefree.

They cast a number of shadows. Though they're not illusions, they're not wholly physical either. You'll have to pay chakra to sustain this jutsu for any length of time, but it's utility will benefit you greatly.

Usagi has his bow raised, and he appears to be rapidly flicking his eyes from clone to clone as they appear. Maybe he's trying to discern if they're real or not.

All of your clones begin to run towards him, and you join them while forming handseals. You take the wire from your mouth and stop running, pulling it taut and activating your second jutsu.

Arrows that explode in violent bursts of shrapnel penetrate your wall of clones, exploding rapidly in the mass. It stops shortly after though, as Usagi likely realizes that your clones cannot be destroyed.

This should give you just enough time for the jutsu to activate, before he realizes that they're not any threat, either.

You gently tug on the string, and through the roaring crowd and vibrating stadium, the note of a bell rings clearer than ever. Your clones part so that you can see Usagi. The chakra reinforced sound pierces the Stone Genin's ears, and he drops to a knee and clutches his head.

You hear him cry out. "Hng!? W-what's happening!? I can't move!"

so we can go almost behind him, like pic, he is an archer so good chance his bow is in his right hand therefore supporting himself on it and his left, with this we enter his blind spot and get a nice clean shot to slice his back/spine
