Why aren´t we seeing more battle damage on power armor?
Somehow on all pictures you only see fresh out of the forgeworld armors. I mean some of the armors are really old. Do they all get perfectly fixed or the broken parts replaced? I don´t think that power armors are allways that easy available.
>>
In the forgeworld they also make spare parts so it's easily replaceable.Only a group of space marines who have been out for some long time has their armor damaged and weathered

This, plus marines tend to place great stock in maintaining their armor and weapons. If you're not fighting or training you're maintaining your stuff.
>>
Unless you're a really poor chapter like the Marines Malevolent, battle damage is going to be something you either can repair when you're not fighting, or the armor parts can be easily replaced.

Also, in an outside the universe sense, armor without battle damage looks nicer and gives us a better sense of colors.

A big part of being a Space Marine (for most chapters) is maintaining your arms and armor with a religious devotion. Not only is it a reflection of your status and skill as a Space Marine to have your armor as well-maintained as possible, it's also a necessity because of Machine Spirits - a poorly maintained/abused armor will fail or even outright rebel because it gets moody and demands a certain level of respect. Not taking good care of it is a surefire way to piss it off.

They're 100% Professional Soldiers, therefore maintenance of their work equipment is going to be a very high priority.

The only chapter that doesnt take care of how their armor looks are the Excoriators who make sure the armor functions properly but all damage they have taken is shown and never repaired.
>>
>>44212067
Im sure the MM take great care of their armor, its just that their armor is a mish mash of spare parts and spit.
>>
>>44212211
I thought they were always scrabbling for parts, so they probably couldn't repair serious battle damage.
>>
>>44211668

>I mean some of the armors are really old.

Those armors are really old precisely because muhreens take immaculate care of them.

I'm sure it gets pretty gritty over the course of an engagement, but then it's back to the space monastary for a detail inspection, repair, strip, clean, polish, and paint.

They are the Emperor's Freshest.

the marines take care of that shit like there holy relics add the mechanus ritual worship of technology and that armors going to be in tip top shape unless their being hit by heavy ordinance the whole time
>>
>>44212117
So the dark gods punish those that do not maintain their armour? No wonder death guard are such walking sacks of shit. If they only fixed their armour, they'd be fine.
>>
Don't forget that they have tech marines that can do the repairs that a regular marine probably couldn't. You'd think 30 years of training on Mars would account for something.
>>
>>44213879
"The Gods" doesn't necessarily mean the Chaos Gods exclusively. Some Marines venerate the Emperor, and throughout the HH books Marines will reference vague "battle gods" before dismissing them as primitive thoughts.
>>
>>44214077
>"The Gods" doesn't necessarily mean the Chaos Gods exclusively.

It does when fags try to claim the new HH fluff about the Emperor getting his powers from the dark gods is totes legit even in RT days.

>So the dark gods
No, it's because the Imperium is backwards and extremely religious.

They THINK it's because of gods and spirits, but mostly it's just ritual that's evolved from "clean your gun you fucking dipshit" through the filter of the space-feudal-future.

>imperials
>believing in any other god besides the Emperor

That's a paddlin'.
>>
>>44214209
the omnissiah exists, dude
>>
>>44214286
The Omnissiah *is* the Emperor.

>>44214166
Given the impact of faith on how the warp works, there's a non-zero chance irreverence might fuck your shit up if you're unlucky.
>>
>>44211924
Just like in any real deployed unit.
>>
>>44214286
Official doctrine has thek both as the same individual, literally the whole plot of Titanicus was people finding out otherwise and a near schism between mars and Terra

The half skull half cog symbol of the imperium is supposed to represent this union as emperor and omnissiah being one and the same

Yeah we with a cosmic view of the setting know all that void dragon shit but it's not exactly common knowledge
>>
>>44214209
Its always been canon that Marines have their own cults and only venerate the Emperor as a father figure, which puts most chapters at odds with the church when only some of them pray to the god-emperor.
>>
>>44214360
>The Omnissiah *is* the Emperor.
Officially? Maybe. They are, however, worshiped (alongside countless imperial saints, heroes as well as the various machine spirits of every piece of equipment ever) separately.

But you are missing the point of the passage.
>The greatest assumption has involved the creation of a broad history and a universe populated by a variety of dangers. The people of the far future are mentally very different from those of today - they have a way of looking at things in which twentieth century ideas of efficiency and morality are irrelevant.
>Those who come into contact with technology use it with reservations and a reverence that are almost religious.

"Such is the will of the Gods" does not literally mean there are gods of good equipment maintenance habits punishing the bad children with lumps of coal in their boltguns. It means the Space Marines view maintaining their equipment with religious devotion, and failing to do so with diligence can invoke the wrath of the spirit of his weapon. It's not the collected grime and oil fucking up the works of his gun, it's the gods of battle giving him the stink-eye. That sort of thing.
>>
>>44214489
Not worshiping the Emperor as a god is not the same as believing in other gods. Unless you're a heretic or SW in need of some paddlin'.
>>
>>44214489
Some marines do worship the Emperor directly, though. Like the Fire Angels and the White Consuls.
>>
>>44214740
>when only some of them pray to the god-emperor.

Thats what I said anon.
>>
>>44214530
>Officially? Maybe. They are, however, worshiped (alongside countless imperial saints, heroes as well as the various machine spirits of every piece of equipment ever) separately.

None of the saints are viewed as gods and the Machine God is viewed as an aspect of the Emperor by the vast majority of the Imperium which includes the marines.

Only some cults of the Admech differ.
>>
>>44214813
>None of the saints are viewed as gods
And in the eyes of the Space Marines (which I should remind you are the ones being described in the passage), neither is the Emperor.

It's flowery speech, meant to emphasize their strange mentality.
>>
>>44214489
>Its always been canon that Marines have their own cults
Some marines see the emperor as a god, others do not
>>

how do you do both?
>>
>>44218573
Don't fix superficial damage. Make sure the suits functions are not compromised, but leave scratches, bullet holes, etc. as they are.

Imagine you crash your car slightly and take it to the shop. They fix and replace all the broken parts, replace windows, etc. But don't do anything to the panels or the paintjob. So the car looks shit on the outside, but on the inside it's perfectly functional.
>>
>>44218573
They're attrition fighters, and they see scars as sort of a mark of honor. In the novel one of their punishments for an insubordinate scout squad is that they have to leave their arms bare to show all their brothers how clean and unscarred their flesh is.

So when their armor takes damage, they repair the underlayers and all the mechanical bits, but don't fix the paint. Then they make a little inscription next to the ding of the date and which battle it happened in. Thus the little scribbles on his armor.
>>
if space marines don't revere the Emperor as a god, I wonder what their views are on the Omnissiah.
I mean, if the Machine God is an aspect of the Emperor, who they don't view as a god, then what do they think of the Machine God?
or do they consider them separate entities?
