Hey /tg/
I have got some new miniatures after a long time of not playing any table top games, I just bought some warmachine and wondered what paints I should buy (basic stuff).
Looking into it as a hobby to calm me through upcoming exams.
My paints from 40k days have dried up and dont know the new stupid names :/
any suggestions for affordable paint?

Privateer Press's line of paint is fine.

The quality is equally good, but they come in dropper bottles.

Vallejo and P3 are good, GW is good too but their bottles contain less paint. Scale75 have the best metallics but you'll probably have to order them online.

Their paint line is made in house and isn't tied to a game.

It's all about army painter breh

Citadel washes are pretty nice, I have no experience with Vallejo washes, but I do have some bottles of ink that are nice for mixing and making your own.

I use mostly Vallejo paints, which have treated me well, the only complaint I have with Vallejo is that sometimes after shaking the bottle, when I take the cap off paint starts to gush out. Its annoying if I only need a little paint.

I've have good experiences with Reaper paints to. Reaper dropper bottles don't have the same problem as Vallejo. Also I find Reaper paints to be slightly more thin than Vallejo.

I have no citadel paints, so I cant say how either Vallejo or Reaper stack up based on experience.

I'm sure both Reaper and Citadel have starter paint sets, maybe check out one of those?

Why are dropper bottles good? Hear it a lot but have never used one so don't know.

They make mixing easier and stop your paints from drying out.

I like them because its easier to more precisely control the amount added to a mixture and they don't dry out as much.

We should have a poll to vote on what most people think is the best. Especially, at least for me, in price/performance.

So we have:

GW
Vallejo
P3
Army Painter
Reaper

Any others?

It should be noted of course that all of these are okay, besides some specific colors. However, some manufacturers are just better at certain colors.

I think a big limitation is going to be that most people don't really branch out when it comes to paint. I've got more P3 and Vallejo than I'm likely to ever need, so why buy any GW or Reaper?

Care to give examples?

what about rating starter kits?

Army Painter seems to give it all at really decent prices.
