you dont even need to land on the shit-spots, all that is needed is for someone to buy out part of the beter spots. There is no way to counter that, you cant buy em from him and you cant force him to sell. Chances are said person will accumulate some property in the time it took to get there. Game is more or less over because someone rolled X on their dice on the first round, all that is left is to find out who will be 2nd and 3rd

Monopoly is extremely luck based, but there is a decent amount of player interaction, specifically the trading properties aspect. Its my favorite part of the game.
Most luck based games that are popular (sorry being the cheif example) have players interact with each other through luck.

When we had the board game as kids, my siblings and I would always have the game degenerate into beating the cheating shit who was the banker as a 'bank robbery.' Then we'd be kicked outside.
Didn't matter who was the banker out of us, they were always a cheating shit. It was practically in the rules, someone had to cheat so we could get a fight going.

People hate on Monopoly mostly because it takes a long time to finish a game, and losses are typically drawn out (there's several rounds between "I have no chance of winning" and "I lose"). If it was a half hour game without player elimination, average families would probably love it.
There are worse games in that they have super tiny design spaces such that they're not interesting (like Battleship) or that their mechanisms are flawed/anti-fun (Munchkin gets brought up a lot for being flawed)
Of course, if they only knew what other board games were out there, they'd drop Monopoly

Acquire was made a few decades later while Monopoly was already a worldwide sensation, it's bland looking, 3M wasn't positioned for mass market sales, it's a more expensive game, and it's not made for kids
