THIS IS NOT A CIV THREAD
Discussion of civ threads only
1st question what's tg's favorite race?
CMs feel free to drop a link to any threads
>>
>>44182990
The machine volcano thread appears to be dead for tonight.
Anyone online interested in starting a new thread tonight?
>>
>>44183228
>>44183228
If there's interest I could possibly run Bullywug Civ tonight
>>
>>44183248
I'd be down for a bullywug civ. If you do end up running one, throw a link in this thread, I'll be on for a few more hours.
>>
>>44183335
Is there any interest in Bullywug Civ?
If there are 2 or 3 people I'll run
>>
Who all was around for my overlord civ?
Any comments for it?
>>
My facorite race I have seen played is lizards, I really want a gnome or ursine thread though
>>
>>44183606
Do you have a link? Id be happy to try and help
>>

We're they Slow's lizards?
Those threads were god tier
>>
>>44184150
Noooope.
I can't into archiving.
>>
>>44184175
Damn
While archiving is actually really easy
Go to subtg
Click on the submit request (down on the left side of the page)
Then copy and paste the thread number
The name of the thread (in this case overlord civ)
A unique tag and a collective game tag
Then submit the request
>>
>>44184206
Alright, I'll do that next time then.

I got time to run threads on weekends, but I may do one on Wednesday since its a day off for me.
>>
>>44184232
If I'm not busy I'll try and make it.
I might run tomorrow for Tribal Bullywug Civ, but that depends, I'll just post in the general. Do the same when you run selphon
>>
>>44184391
I generally do, if a general is up.
>>
>>44183497
do it faggot

>>44191230
Just finishing my lunch
I'd only have a couple hours because I'm heading to the gym at 3

Favorite race would definitely be construct closely followed by machine/insect. Love the versatility.

Any games going on atm?
>>
>>44193138
I'm gonna go make myself some food, but after that I have about 2 hours before I gotta go to work.
If there are 2-3 interested people when I get back, I could try my hand at CMing.

>>44193339
I'm interested
>>
>>44193339
This sounds interesting to me... though I'm new to tg and 4chan in general so It might take a little for me to get my bearings on stuff. Incidentally, looking at the OP... how would a Slime Civ actually work?

May the Blessings of Understanding be upon you, O great Menak Steamwrench, 100th High Tinker of venerated and ancient Theralis, city state of Gnomekind. Young was the world when the first High Architect Knaz Silvercolumn carved Theralis thousands of years ago from Mount Thera, long did it grow and prosper, housing the largest library in the land and becoming a center of technological advancement.

Although, dark times have fallen upon it in an age of strife. First conquered by the Dwarves, and then by the Drow, Theralis is occupied by foreign powers. Its people either fled or enslaved. Truly, we are at a critical point in our history. O great Menak, muster your strength with the refugees you have gathered. Return to us with an army and rekindle our light.

Your people look to you to rally Gnomekind. Will you accept the challenge? Will you build a civilization that will stand the test of time?

Maybe one day I'll run a civ.

Okay guys, I want to take the cib game off tg. I am involved with a digimon forum roleplaying group and want to move it there. I was thinking of using socialites for the types. I.e. Jungle trooper, dragons roar, etc. Any thoughts on specifics of the adaptation?
>>
>>44204721
I'm a little lost. Are you trying to move civ games as they are to a forum, or make a digimon-flavored civ game on said forum?
>>
>>44202218

okaaaaaay....

>On what scale is this civ going to be?
village, town, several towns, continents, etc.

>Are you going to use canon(and which)?
veeeery important question, considering how many different universes there are of Digimon

>What are you focusing on to differentiate each side/digimon?
>What kind of game do you want to play?
roleplaying doesn't sound quite the same as what I expect when I hear "civ", so we should probably clear that up.

and now I'm going to bed.
>>
>>44208181
>>44208262
as an addendum, I honestly don't see how this could work out, but I'd very much like to see it happen if you think it's possible.
>>
Alright I hate to post this for the 3rd time, but a bunch of people wanted to start playing as soon as I went to bed

>>44209084
>>
>>44208294
So I am not going for roleplaying so much as taking the current civ game, and making the races digimon, and making them explore the world, evolve and whatnot. It would be a prehuman society and start at a fictional time when nothing but champions exist aside from the 4 soveriegn. ( I might go season 4 and focus on the spirits... But probably not)
>>
Hey guys, I'm kinda stuck at my worldbuilding for my Blue Dragon civ/quest... I've got a rough map in mind, races, conflicts but I dunno how I shoul advance our tech really..

I would like to impose a limit on how much the tech could improve, at least for a while. Right now it doesn't go more than mid bronze age. Sooo how do?
>>
>>44211213
Well the dragon won't need a lot of tech, our mooks don't need to be super well advanced and besides, bronze conducts electricity rather well
>>
>>44211417
Yeah that's what I tought.. But then I'm planning to go a bit further with this. A LOT further actually.

And you won't just have mooks running around yelling "YAAS MASTAAAH". They'll be your citizens.

My plan is to make something like a reputation scale (you're either good or bad), and a morale of your civ based on that (you are either loved or feared, both have bonuses and minuses to them).

Also, someone said in the previous thread that they would like to equip a bracelet that we recieved as a gift. I wanna do some inventory slots as well. It's too fucking much already but I LOVEEE ITTT
>>
>>44211506
Why not become loved AND feared?
Just assign a morality modifier to each action say 100 is good 0 is evil, every good decsions is +1 every evil descion is -1, and don't tell the players if it's good/evil until after they decide, maybe have different groups view him differently
>>
I'll get myself in order than its overlord time.
>>
>>44211616
Yeah that's kinda what I had in mind. Morally gray and all that shit. As in owning slaves isn't such a big deal. Sacrificing one or two there are many ways to channel magic and this is/might be one of them ain't that bad either. But when you go full Apocalypso on their asses, that's fuckin evil.

I just write everything on the notes app and then copy/paste it into 4chan. I have a problem though. Any map-making website I can access on my phone and use without a sketchy download? I want to make a map but I don't know what to use to make one
>>
>>44218657
>crunch data
you generally want to keep that down.

My setups is essentially 2 columns: Name and Level/Rank

I could subdivide the Name column into Name and Modifiers/Tags.

I could add a rudimentary levelup system that adds in increments of 1/3 or 1/5.

But then I need to stop and consider whether the extra effort makes things easier or harder in the long run. The former? Might be helpful once midgame starts setting in. The latter? A lot of crunch for very little benefit.
>>
>>44215064
I would be... perhaps perversely interested in seeing one of these taken seriously. Playing as a twisted alien species in an entirely alien environment.

Up you go...

Since we have a civ general to organize civ threads, why isn't there a quest/CYOA general? Maybe just one forum games general? Also, how would you guys feel about a forum games board?
>>
>>44225044
Anyone could make a general for those. I actually think I've seen a cyoa general. However I think a forum games board would hurt all of those games. Quest/cyoa and especially Civs aren't always the most popular so making them harder to have ranons wander in w the would hurt the hobby
>>
>>44225044
There is a quest general, and I'd be great with a quest board. Would give more attention to the concept, and provide board tools we can utilize, like poster ID, more images per post, etc.

races 2.jpg
4 MB, 2700x6000
Hi all. I'm the guy who made the OP pic, was wondering what you'd guys like to see, as proof here's a version of it without the colored background. Been busy the past year, but I've been playing some Civs recently, and decided to work on it again. Originally there were plans for me to add some more races, such as an Ogre, a humanoid shark, mermaids, and other races (to expand the aquatics).
What else would you guys like to see?
>>
>>44243670
Would you all like for an allignment stat added to the races? Lawful, Neutral, Chaotic, Good Evil, etc? Don't think it's really needed, but it co
>>
>>44243670
I would prefer a much smaller list. Or at least, cutting it down to general themes so that consensus isn't as hard to reach.

A category could be 9-16 races. Not small, just not a mess to choose from.
>>
>>44243700
I can make a smaller version of it containing the main races if you'd like. Would you mind making me a list of what races you'd prefer on it?
I plan on making a second image to add more races to, so I'll probably redo the first one as well.
>>
>>44243714
No, more like....

>Big Guys
>Flying Guys
>Undead/Not Living
>Amphibian/Seafolk
>Inorganic

sets like that
>>
>>44243876
So you're wanting me to make categorized image sets.
>>
Where dem frogs at?
>>
>>44243891
yes. Cut that 3.77 MB into more manageable chunks. If you're going to add more races, you'd have hit the size limit anyway.
>>
>>44243714
Humans
Dwarves
Elves
Orcs
Insects
Gnomes
Demons
Undead
Machines
Myceanea
Crystalids

Don't need more than that.
>>
>>44244023
Don't forget slimes
>>
>>44244050
I just don't see how they can have a meaningful civilization. There have been several slime threads, sure, but never did I see them taking off the stone age. They seem as much lacking as celestials.
>>
>>44244094
It's hard for a lot of people to imagine what their civilization would be like. Technology wise I can't see them getting far. They're more like evolutionary based creatures I imagine.
>>
>>44243670
First of all, thank you for spending time on this.

First of all, categorizing into sub divisions might not be a bad idea if you want to expand further.

On the other hand, expanding even further would mean you would be inventing classes that are either basic creatures with fluff, or humanoid versions of animals.

For example, myceanea are basically fluffed ents/dyads with fungal characteristics. And samewise bullywugs are specified aquatics. (Not that either is bad, in fact I love 'em).
>>
>>44244169
That's the idea mate.
Perhaps I'll make a main page that allows for them to vote on the types they'll choose from. For example "Evil" "Normal" "Aquatic" "Giant" and so forth. Based on the way it's split up, allowing for players to still be able to choose without having to vote on the specific race at that time. (Would allow GM to give players the ability to choose any race, without viewing all the races) Can fit more locations, and info on that as well.
>>
>>44244127
I remember once designing a "slime" civilization... it started as dissecting doppelganger society from a pseudo-scientific standpoint and it went from there. "How are they able to take different forms?" An amalgam of cells in a sort of hivemind that change to suit the needs. "How do they differentiate eachother?" They release unique and distinctive pheromones and use smell as their primary sense. "What's their culture like?" I decided the would do lots of performance art, in particular an audience favorite would be imitating plays from other cultures. They ended up travelling around as slime/snakes in glass tubes "Because why have a door when your base form is arguably much smaller?"
>>
>>44244094
>>44244127
focusing on the "accelerated evolution" part is what takes away from the technology just as much as it is the result of a lack of technology.
>>
>>44244258
That's the thing isn't it? If humans rapidly re-adapted to the cold, we would have never designed clothes to keep us warm. Being able to adapt at the drop of a hat makes many forms of technology unnecessary.
>>
>>44244236
>>44244258
>>44244302
I think there are many ways to do it. Personally I've played them as animal based creatures that can get "Cores" when they absorb enough essence, magical stuffs, or whatever that increase their intelligence and magical capabilities. (Like slime girls I suppose would be an example) Their strengths are magic and evolution, they're a parasite but can also by a symbiotic race. Imagine if they teamed up with dwarfs, using armored suits to protect their cores?

Anyways I've written down some notes, and I'll probably make a post sometime this weekend or next week as an update.
>>
>>44244328
Interesting, the way I balanced out my "They're cells that will just reform around any damage" was by making fire and chemical weaponry EXCEPTIONALLY bad for them. That and an allergy to iron, as is traditional for fae-like creatures, and they were (unintentional) tricksters. "Wait, what do you mean you thought I was Hank? I smell nothing like Hank!"
>>
>>44244328
>absorb enough essence
but that's where it gets tricky. Is it so plentiful that you may as well be playing Spore? How do you scale it to a civ level? What stops you from funneling it all into a select few?
>>
>>44244258
But they don't even have limbs or able to carry armor. You're trying to come up with things a pudding might need. It's.. they're not civ material.

It works great on insects, but not on slimes.
>>
>Far before a human set foot on the world, sentient beings came forth from large hivemind bacteria colonies
>like large groups of fish, these bacteria moved as one body in order to gain the upper hand over their fellow beings
>over time these beings developped a thick slime-like substance to protect them from the elements
>but like a blade has two sides, their protection had a downside too: it attracted animals who found the nutritious goop a delicacy
>once again the bacteria evolved and it harnassed poisons and paralytic substances to defend them from their hunters
>this allowed them to grow further, and led them to grow on
>the colonies grew large enough to cover entire trees, consuming them over time
>but their size came with a lack of control and their internal structure could, just like a skeleton, not hold these vast bodies together
>they developped cores; centered chunks of neurological properties and appropriate layers of protective slime
>so "Slimes" came to be, a diversely shaped creature of slime, driven by a central brain of cooperating bacteria
>these slimes soon began to compete with eachother over food, over leadership and all the other primal urges that drives each creature
>with competition came more development, and it soon turned out the species that were most adaptable, the smartest ones, proved the worthiest of them all
>during their intellectual evolution, they came to reason
>they questioned their actions, questioned others, and questioned the reason behind it all...

it's certainly not on the level of hands, but depending on their tactile abilities, they may be able to lift and handle tools. Admittedly, I'm stuck on how to get from there to Advanced tool use.

>>
http://endlessspace.wikia.com/wiki/Amoeba

Can just make them, essentially, overgrown cells with psychic capacity. They use their gift to communicate with other beings, and manipulate tools. In time they learn to shape their form as well and create archtypes, like small floating slimes with high psychic potential, or huge slimes with little psychic potential but they're siege beasts, or humanoids. Still home brewed though.

Slimes that encounter another race could use salvaged gauntlets or gloves, filling the item with slime and using it as a sort of exoskeletal implement for more dextrous manipulation.

At least that's what I always thought would work.

Shapeshifting solves all problems. Shapeshifting and photosynthesis.

It could work, definitely.

Then all that's left is wrists and arms. Technically, rotation itself is not that hard, but wrists offer a rather large degree of precision above what slimes and tentacles can do while lifting an object. Arms are the real clincher though. That's pure lifting torque, and if they're strong enough to do it with an arm's worth of slime, then it would be far easier to do it with their entire body and punch holes in trolls.
