What's your favorite orbital-reentry assault vehicle /tg/?
Are they viable? Are they safe? which fiction did them best?
I'm thinking of running a three shot of mid Sci-fi focused on an orbital assault on a heavily defended planet. the players will be the very first wave, expected to die and ordered to soften the defenses for following waves.

I personally love the ODST from halo, the way their Drop Bays are set up, the angular shape and the blast-forward door.

I forget if they had a name but I dug the suicide assault teleporter from Riddick.
What it was, you had a squad make landfall then fight their way as deep into enemy defenses as they could, then last guy standing would set up the teleporter beacon as he's getting filled with lead. Couple second later you have a metric shitload of back up popping up without a sound. Perfect entry for bad guys.

Going to have to go with the classics

THat was pretty cool, I forget if it was an automatic set up or he had to do it as he died. Because what if that squad just got bombed into paste all at once?

I was going to look into Titanfall drop pods because I remember quite liking them but there isn't a single good image of them out there.
And to be quite honest they're drop pods with a spike on the bottom. They don't exactly reimagine the formula. People sit inside, put the harness on, drop and get out. Had some grav-tech to suddenly decelerate safely but eh.

I think he just had to stab it into the ground. The dying part was probably just because they used jobbers for that sort of thing.

>classics
>not original Starship Troopers
Though I admit none of the adaptations even tried to show it properly.
