What are /tg/'s thoughts on this game? It's essentially Magic but more weeby. Do you think the game has potential or will it die out quickly?
It's always looked interesting, but fuck if it seems difficult to get into.

Using Magic terminology:
Pros:
> No more mana flood/screw.
> Creatures can attack tapped creatures.
> Relatively cheaper than Magic.
> Blue is trash in this game.

Cons:

I dunno how I feel about this game. Has great potential and some really solid mechanics, but I can't shake the feeling it's just gonna be (or already is) a degenerate Yugioh weeb fest.
Also power creep is looking very apparent with this new set. Doesn't look like it's gonna stop, either.

I'm actually really digging the game though. It's replaced Standard format MTG for myself and a few others at my shop. I really hope the new starter decks coming out soon helps expand the playerbase.

The twins are really the only thing from the new set that's bad in terms of power creep, and it's still far from tier 0. Sylvia is balanced by Susan's existence, and the other 3 new rulers are gimmick or "build around me" cards that will introduce new decks without pushing the power level.

It doesn't add complexity; it passes (part of) the decision making from the defender to the attacker.
I like the distribution from attacking individually better, but it's largely a matter of preference.
I assume they listed it as a con because it has slower gameplay than attacking all at once.

To be honest, I'm not really a huge fan of the mat (I don't dislike it, I just prefer landscape style mats over character mats), but do you think I could use it at MTG tournaments to tilt pervy kids or SJWs?

I think it does add a lot of complexity to the game, in the sense that each individual attack is a piece of a larger, partially seen picture. I could attack with a dude, after combat cast some spell, then cast a dude with haste and attack with it. I think the decision trees are a lot more complex for both the attacking and blocking players, especially since tapping to block opens up a resonator to being attacked directly. In MTG, if you're attacked by 2 Siege Rhinos, you know that those are the only things attacking you this turn. You don't need to account for a Mantis Rider swinging for another 3 damage.

At first I thought I liked it just because it was new, something different to play until I felt like playing magic again.
But months later I'm still in love with this game.
People bitch about meta, but it's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be, especially at locals.
Now that TTW is out, its gonna get even better.

Anyone who plays for any strats for an Overlord Valentia deck? Trying to use the beasts and artifacts as well as the Shadows too. I hear green and red are hard to counter as it is and that Overlord Valentia is slow.
I ordered three boxes of TTW that just shipped out, so I'm hoping to complete a playset of everything in the new set (not including stamped/fullart/godcards).
Just put together a Bloody Snow White deck that's fun to play. Also have a Four Sacred Beasts deck, and plan to make something based around Dark Alice ruler.
For those of you buying 1 off packs, the stories about buying packs from department stores and getting rarer cards are true. Local meijer had 4 packs of SKL, and each one returned a full art/stamped card. Melgis, Horn of Sacred Beasts, Persephone, and something else.

Amazon is a good place to order small amounts of sealed product from. For a new player, you have a few different options:
1. Buy the Faria vs Melgis Duel Decks (About $30, gives you two decks, each deck has some staples in it)
2. Buy the Vingolf: Engage Knights set. There is enough cards to make a few decks to get used to playing. There are some definite staples, like 2 of each dual land, and some good cards to have in your decks. Costs about $35 online.
3. With the release of the newest set, TTW, they are making single decks which you can buy. These decks are a bit expensive, going to be roughly $45 online. However, from how the deck lists look, you should be able to do fairly well competitively with them at a local gamestore, as long as everyone there isnt running decks from Top 8's and shit.

A lot of people recommend buying 2 of the Vingolf Sets. This gives you a playset of every dual land, and some other pretty valuable cards.
For a while, the best deck could be built by combing cards from 4 of the Melgis vs Faria dual decks (about a $120 investment). All of the staples from that set are being reprinted between SKL and TTW though.
If anyone lives in Michigan, we plan to hold an introduction to FoW at our LGS so that we can teach some more people to play and build the community. Still have to work everything out with the LGS though.

Coretcg has a set for $65 that has all 5 upcoming starter decks. I figure if you got that, you'd have 5 playable decks to try out. From there, if you decide you want to continue, then you can buy the Vingolf sets to have some extra decks, but more importantly, the playset of all dual lands. You can then take what you find in the starter decks, and build onto them with cards from vingolf, and from buying packs of the newest set.

Magic was known to have some wordy cards too. Keep in mind this game is still infantile, and they have been dealing with poor translators for a while. I believe everything from TTW and forward is done by a new translation team, so we should see better translations and formatting soon.

Two vingolfs is a little dated, since you can usually find vingolfs duals for ~$1 each, and the staples they include are like $5 for thunder and $2 for stoning. You're generally better off just buying the singles at this point.

It's going to be at least bg, and there aren't many reasons not to play red. The mirror match encourages you to play 20 stones, and that gets pretty awkward with Gretel. I'd run blessing of yggdrasl and a couple of utility stones like grublesta and ruler's memoria.
It still depends on how you build, though. I'm running a green-centric Vlad but I'm considering going more darkness for fun stuff like mount immortal.
