When the undead cease being twisted mockeries of who they were in life, their souls wrenched from their rest to serve a dark master.

So I've had a huge hankering for playing a necromancer in a videogame recently.

Any good games that let you do it? I was thinking HoM&M, but I was curious if there was anything else along the line.

Remarkably little, and nothing to my full satisfaction. Conquest of Elysium, Dominions, Guild Wars 1and Nekro off the top of my head. There's some ok necromancy mods for Skyrim as well.

The Masterwork mod gives you skeleton minions when playing as a warlock settlement

Was that ever updated to the most recent version? Not that the previous one worked all that well or was complete.

When you will finally realize saying random things doesn't make you sound deep or profound?
>>
>>44034824
It's probably going to take some time for it to update to 42.xx.
I never particularily liked it
>>
>>44034886
It was a pretty bleh necromancer simulator imo, maybe if half of the rituals worked, every goddamn thing wasn't so expensive and dreadnaught skellymans were worth the investment. Great for building shit though what with the infinite free colored blocks.

>>
>>44032685
okay, so if they're just animated bones, like a golem, is that less bad?
>>
>>44034991
Diablo is a more sophisticated version of cookie clicker though.
Not a bad game though not exactly a roleplaying game, where 'being a necromancer' has any meaningful impact on the story or gameplay.

Not the guy asking for suggestions btw, just saying.

For some reason the only game I can think of is Summoner, but that is not about Necromancy iirc.

RPG
>Tales of Maj'Eyal
pretty decent roguelike it is free if you download it from their website. You gotta unlock the necro class but it is pretty worth it since they can be both blasters and minionmancers. They can also become liches and there are playable undead races

Turn based strategy game
>Dominions 4
to quote the /vg/ thread.
"The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.

It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.

Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game."
The big necromancy nations are Ermor in the middle ages (skeletal undead romans) and Lemuria in the late ages (immortal ghosts). There are others but those are the really undead ones.

Well, the roleplay part of Diablo pretty much restricted to chosing different skill trees.

Granted, games where that is a bigger deal are kind of rare to find, assuming Necromancy wasn't your 'default loadout' anyway.
Only good example i can think of really would be Morrowind, where Necromancy makes you a criminal etc.

I think I remember this game being posted here a while ago. is that the game where someone created and then lost control of a undead shoggoth creature that systematically wiped out entire nations?
>>
>>44035100
Summoner is probably my favorite rpg on the PS2 but theres really not much in the way of necromancy. More demonic/creature summons than straight up undead.

When my paladin died at the hands of a Lich the Lich was in the middle of a ritual to raise him into a deathknight when the surviving party members interrupted it. The zombified body was raised but still managed to possess their memories while losing their paladin powers. Kept playing as an undead fighter
