Im playing the new dwarf fortress and generated this world, for those who aren't quite familiar with the game, the whole west continent is goblin pits and fortresses, even the dwarven fortress has been overrun and captured.
Who wants to help me reclaim the mountains for dwarves? put in your suggestions for what kind of hero and what we're doing, starting off what name and weapon of choice.

There's nothing for you in Bitegravel, a couple of miners and farmers holed up in the snowy hills, complacent in this position across the sea.
you immediately pack up and head somewhere you can recruit more allies, after the first few hillocks it's clear the adventuring spirit has died out in these parts, you'll stick it out on your own and cross the glaciers into no-mans land
You stay at Giftcaves, the last dwarven settlement you will see for a long time, you sleep up and prepare, as you consult your map you see there is a small group of elven villages before the goblins, elves have never been kind to your people but it might be the only place to get more fighters.

after the snooze in the drinking mound you wake up and spot a particular dwarf, he is sleeping with a large hammer and a suit of armor. You confront him for his profession and he admits he is a freelance soldier. taking this opportunity you recruit him for your journey and like that your numbers go from 1 to 2.

The tundra out here is not charted or well traveled, only elves and goblins to the west after all. so when you see the river on your map you prepare to go around because there's no bridge to cross, as the river gets thinner and splits off into more branches the ice covers the whole body of water, your chance to cross.
as you step over the snow covered ice carefully Ushat gets your attention and points ahead, not far from the other side of the river is a Gigantic black bear foresting for berries.
should we confront it, it might provide much needed meat, but we are safer off hunting something less dangerous

you provoke the bear and throw Ushat into the fray, the bear puts up little resistance as he smashes her head multiple times with his hammer, the whole thing is mangled once he's finished with it, broken bones and fur mixed with fat, we cant make a meal out of this.

once across the river safely we head back north for a bit, the sun threatens to drop under the horizon any minute and we dont want to be caught out in the wilderness at night, there are worse things than goblins at night.

we reach Notchautumns in the evening, a dense forest with lightly walked paths tangled between them, not a house or elf to be found, but this is the place. Damn elves and their secrecy, you have to call out to anyone in the forest the only response you hear is the pitter patter of raindrops on leaves and the grumbling of Ushat.

elves usually sleep in tree's right? i guess that's what we'll have to do with a lack of any digging tools, you grasp a trunk and heave yourself up. and sleep on a branch until the sun rounds up the other side.

After breakfast and refilling your waterskin you glance around at the silent forest, if any elves are here they at least gave you the courtesy of not assassinating you in your sleep. should we move on maybe to another forest retreat or keep looking for someone here.

after a while wandering the forest, climbing a few trees and checking for elves you give up, and start climbing down, the rain and dew on the branches however make your footing slip and you fall hitting a few branches on the way down, bruising what feels like every muscle in your body you let out a moan and pull yourself up, your stomach growling...

you sit under the tree for an hour, Ushat chewing on some leaves and complaining how bitter they are, after a quick stroll through the area and finding nothing you conclude that the elves are avoiding you, typacle. but a forest retreat up north has a market, they will be a little more welcoming up there, only an hours travel.

You resolve to go, feeling hungry after a day without food a market would do you good, but as you get there and see the market full of barrels and chests, not a soul to be found, not in the trees or by the stalls. you rummage around the containers but find that they've been ransacked. The elves have abandoned this place, have the goblins come so far north? if so your mission is more urgent than ever they're right at your doorstep.
This is a surprise to you because the only way between the elves and the goblins in a cursed plain of diseases and evil, you'll be on the lookout, anything could be in these trees.

You're still far away from any goblins, you'll spend a few days treking down there. a few wolves attack you and you make quick work of them, butchering their corpses and feasting like kings of tripe and kidneys
We should kill a king and see what happens.
