One of my players want to play a pixie who pilots a human-sized drone as a mecha, basically.

I'm still not sure if this is the worst or the best idea.

But... there's no space in a Steel Lynx or Doberman to fit anything...

If we're lucky, though, Rigger 5 will give us better ground vehicle drones to play with, the current selection is just awful.

There's artwork of them with hair, but I'd bet most lose hair due to the bad/toxic/hazardous conditions they're forced to live in.

Hi again Triss
>>
>>43983434

Yeah, the whole Head Crasher crisis is really fucking stupid. I play Shadowrun to do illegal things to corporations with cool toys and to occasionally get shot in the back for it.

I have no interest in this nano Tetsuo special snowflake AIDs crap. A virus that gives you lolsorandom multiple personalities? It's like I'm reading a 15 year old's fanfic.
>>
>>43983866
Most of the fluff for 5e and late 4e reads like that. I mean fuck, Attitude should have had masses of potential but ended up being that instead. I would have loved a campaign guide that was basically a shadowrun version of The Devil Wears Prada.
>>
>>43983910
It does read like a Shadowrun version of The Devil Wears Prada.
The band, that is.
>>
>>43983940
I think I'll go cry in a cup of tea while I try to work the framework of a run involving NYFW for a few sessions.

>body and facial hair falls out
>fingers elongate, and the fingernails become claws
>teeth become sharper and more prominent

There's your list of changes.

>>43983246
The art usually delves heavily into butchered zombies or robocop-style dipped in toxic waste. You can play a ghoul that is neither of those, and still remain true to the description.
>>
>>43982774
Why not just construct the building out of spiders
>>
Hey guys, I'm the guy who had the technomancer whose brain was in accelerated development by Evo. Turns out there was a miscommunication between me and my GM about the difference between his body and his brain, and so at the end of the prologue session, I'm all confused about why I'm being referred to as a 'child soldier' by the shadow runners who extracted my character (and 2 of his buddies) from the facility, and being refered to as a Kid. When I ask him after the session wraps up (not thinking to ask in character) he says "Isn't your character biologically like 12?"

It had too much potential for hijinks, and hey, the confusion between a character raised in almost total isolation and being confused for such by the guys helping extract him was too much to pass up on, so it'll be fun to see how this plays out.
>>
>>43985647
There's a 6-Karma negative quality for Neotenic characters in Run Faster. If you are going for it anyway, why not claim some extra Karma? As a Technomancer, the reduced condition monitor probably won't hurt you too bad.

Great character, though.

>>43984529

Just got Shadowrun Hong Kong. Gaichu is the first ghoul character that I actually like, primarily because he's a Red Samurai who just happens to be a ghoul, instead of a horror movie reject.
>>

>There's a 6-Karma negative quality for Neotenic characters in Run Faster. If you are going for it anyway, why not claim some extra Karma? As a Technomancer, the reduced condition monitor probably won't hurt you too bad.
Oh that's smart. I'll grab it. Might need tweaking though since the idea behind the character is that he THINKS he's 18, but has a child's body. Boy is he in for a shock soon enough (granted, he doesn't have a great idea of what the social differences are anyway, being raised in a SLIGHTLY nicer version of apperature labs).

The funny thing is how the whole character concept came together. I wanted to try out a technomancer/samurai build, but that means implants, and I'd forgotten (after years of not playing) that technomancers depend on essence like mages do. So we came up with a special technomancer only trait for technomancers born after Crash 2.0, which basically acts like the Type-O trait, but for cyberware and nanoware.

Both me and the GM forgot that only about 10 years had passed since Crash 2.0 in the time line, we'd thought it'd been further back. But both of us liked the backstory we made too much (and knowing him he had already planned a big old story arc specifically for the quirk's hijinks) so we came up with the whole 'age accelerating thing'.

My character ends up being part of the "TreeHouse", a UV server in a Evo arctic base. Subject 15 (of subjects 11 through 21), isolated and trained into being basically a close combat specialist. Everyone in the project was also a technomancer with the 30 point quirk.

Me and my two bros (Subjects 16 and 17, 16 being a pure hacking specialist, and 17 being a ranged combat specialist to my melee combat specialist) force our first submersion early (up until then only 11-13 had been allowed to submerge by our minders), and broke out while another set of subjects were being tested.

>cont.
>>
>>43986758
Grabbed our training combat gear, made a break for it, ripping out as much of the data from the local servers as we could while running (only very recent test data that hadn't been uploaded off site yet) planning on selling it once we were out (we didn't know who we'd sell it TOO, just that we would need money to live outside the complex). On the way out, we ran into some shadow runners who broke into the base specifically to get to our level, their leader made the recall and we followed them out. Their dwarf rigger of a leader figures out that the goal was to kidnap us, not some technological prototype (they'd been told to steal 'the end product'), and decides to renege on the deal based on 'I don't sell kids'. Their team split up because the heat was on them too much, each of them bringing one of us to a different location.

We keep in contact because we've set up a Network called "The Lost Children", which includes our trio, and subject 11 who set up a resonance link into the network but remained behind, meaning that when we submerge again, we can get back in touch with him hopefully, plan on breaking the rest of our buddies out. Of course my character won't realize until then that they've got some weird sort of time acceleration in the UV server we spent most of our time uploaded into, but that's for the future. For now? My character has a duffle bag of security gear, a comm link stashed with as much data as 3 resonance 3-5 technomancers could shove into it within 5 minutes on some serious blackops shit, and a head full of complex forms for fucking up stuff... oh and the fact my GM began cackling madly when I pointed out we weren't supposed to give him malware complex forms (another oversight on both our parts) and said it was fine... I'm sure that won't come to bite me back in the ass at all.
>>
>>43981527
Just made a rigger that is also an Aspected magician into conjuring. Basically plays as a hyper-paranoid conspiracy theorist who uses her drones and spirits as constant eyes for her.
>>
Alright, so I have a fair amount of experience from 4e, and I'm generating my first character for 5e. I'm playing a covert specialist, and I really don't have any interest in picking up a deck. Do I really need to read the new hacking rules? Is there anything that a non-decking rogue character really has to worry about/help with in 5e cybercombat?

Why are street samurai even a thing? I feel that street samurai are really.. generic. I mean, isn't everyone modded up anyway besides casters? Granted, I am new to shadowrun. Why would anyone be a street samurai, sacrifice all this essence and such when they could be an adept and do most of the same shit?

What advantage does a street samurai have over other archetypes? Why be one?
>>
>>43981527
Crippled dude who built himself a hardsuit with a rigger cocoon that turns him into a tanky combat monster.

Probably never gonna play him though since I'm a cripple myself and the whole concept's way too close to being some shitty self-insert wish fulfillment bullshit.

Just kill me. I want to try one of those online sessions but I am afraid it will be shit OR I will sign up for the session and its full of dudes wanting to play as little elf girls or some shit(this is actually a fear of mine).
>>
>>43987706
Lore-wise, people cram a lot of specialized combat ware into their bodies because sufficiently powerful casters are rare as fuck and mundanes gotta have some way to wreck shit too.

OOC? SR5 is extremely biased in favor of magical characters. Adepts and mysads in particular are filthy cheaters who can be obscenely good at just about anything. Also, casters most definitely can get chromed up as well and, in the long run, are likely to be even more powerful with some tech in their bodies than their purist colleagues.

It's one of the shittier parts of SR. Not a total dealbreaker for anyone who wants to play a mundane character, but the caster-mundane gap is definitely something the GM ought to keep in mind when playing with people who put some thought into the mechanical efficacy of their character builds.
>>
So the four 'classic' areas of aspected magic in Shadowrun are Spells, Spirits, Enchanting, and Astral.

The problem being, as far as I can see, is that Spells and Spirits are just vastly better than either of the other two. I've been trying to put together a character with a focus on astral space and there's just not a hell of a lot that a character who's primary focus is going all ghosty can do.
>>
>>43988232
That's 100% correct.

On the bright side, if the guys you're playing with aren't all dedicated powergamers, you might still be able to make the other stuff work. Just talk to the rest of your group.
>>
>>43988232
>Astral
> Aspected magicians do not astrally project.
> Aspected magicians can astrally perceive.

Just to clear up that one.
>>
I'm simply curious though, would it even be possible to play a well-balanced character that doesn't use either magic or cybernetics? Essentially as mundane as you could possibly get.
>>
>>43988023
>tfw want to GM more than what I currently do but not a native english speaker and insecure about my accent

>>

>>
>>43988104
and it's been made worse with how badly gimped Technomancers are, though given technomancers also can be played completely the opposite of how they're stated to be played according to the books. Rather than alternative hackers, you play them as sprite-summoning badasses with emergency 'get out of jail free' type cards in the form of their complex forms.
>>
>>43988803
The big thing augs provide muggles is extra initiative. Most everything else is a matter of a couple extra dice, but the extra initiative from wired reflexes is the difference between 1 or 2 initiative passes and 3 or 4. You can compensate with edge and drugs, but both of those have significant limitations.

Augs are also very important if you want to use melee weapons (or unarmed) outside of the select few that do not benefit from higher strength.
>>
>>43988885
I'm not planning on using melee often, if ever. In terms of iniative and certain tactics, I know there's certain martial arts forms that sync up well with gunplay if he ever gets in a bind. Iniative would be the weakest part of the build though, unless I figure out a way to compensate.
>>
>>43988948
>unless I figure out a way to compensate
Jazz
>>
>>43988963
I guess? I'm not looking to be hooked on drugs though.
>>
>>43988803
Nothing from the top of my head, but I guess something like (sum-to-ten):
3: 36/5 Skills OR 4: 48/10 Skills
3: 20 Attributes
2: 140.000Â¥
2: Dwarf OR 1: Elf
0: Mundane

Get some cool qualities like catlike or double jointed, maybe an exceptional attribute, I don't know. Become an agile, socially secure infiltrator with tons of cool breaking and entering and disguise gear. A dwarf is obviously a lot smaller, so air-duct-crawling might be your thing, while an elf will have more options and an easier time infiltrating through the ballroom, so to say.

>>
>>43989111
Cyberware you can avoid for infiltration purposes, but unobtrusive bio or geneware requires medical or purposeful DNA scans to find, respectively. Unless you drop below 3.1 Essence, the net in-game effect of keeping your body pure is almost non-existent for mundanes. Then, if you do drop below 3.1 Essence? The most notable effect will be on your social limit, which drops 1 rank.

Hoi, chummers, I would like some opinions on a road-trip in the SSC.
Basicly, the runners will be on a mission for Wuxing down in the Salish-Shidhe Council. The big Wu will smuggle them over the Seattle border in a freight train and drop them off in Centralia in the old state of Washington. From there they will use their own cars to travel for another hour and a half.

My question is, what kind of encounters / roleplay oportunities could be made during the roadtrip, considering that they never went to the wilds in such a way? And how will the people of the SSC react to a bunch of anglos?

Any other suggestions are greatly appreaciated

Go check the tables of cyberware, notice how many of them say (R) or (F). A proper street samurai, not just a punk with a cheap cyberarm, is a thing of beauty. They can move at superhuman speeds, take a shotgun blast to the chest, see through 6 inches of concrete and shoot the guy behind with unerring accuracy at full sprint.

>>43988104 is right in that adepts are very good, possibly better than street samurai, but fluff-wise they are super rare and there is a tonne of stuff that street samurai can do that adepts can't. Want robot legs that let you fly, shotguns built into your arms, a secret smuggling compartment filled with dynamite? You go street samurai. Adepts are really good at a narrow range of things, but street samurai (so long as they have the money) can diversify and cover a lot of niche situations, and if they have a streetdoc on hand and the parts they can even switch out and perfect themselves without needing a vision quest.

On a side note, I can play Magic Fightan Guy in a dozen systems, but there's not many where I can fill myself with cool robot parts and go break some heads.

Astral projection can be huge for scouting. Three main ways to scout something: in meatspace/on foot (this includes drones), via Matrix, and via Astral projection. With Astral projection you can also identify magical users early, so if you need to geek the mage/prioritize targets, you can do that. A good hit on Assensing can reveal who's who, with a bit of intuition.

So I'm at a point of confusion.

I got an Obvious Left Cyberarm, cost of 1 Essence.
I'm installing a Cybershotgun into it, 1.25 Essence.

I'm plugging it into my cyberarm though, so doesn't that negate the 1.25 cost?

Chummer agrees with me, but I'm not finding any rule for it in the book.
>>
>>43990993
it adds up, you could chrome yourself in a single arm but if it's a monstrous hulk of metal, cables and destruction it's gonna shred through your essence like butter because it's still connected to you
>>
>>43990993
I'm fairly certain the essence cost for a cybershotgun is for implanting it into an ordinary limb.

If it goes into a cyberlimb, it costs Capacity instead.

>don't know how to play them exactly

>>
>>43991025
Ah, okay, adding the shotgun and stuff as a "plug-in" is incorrect. Got it.
>>
>>43990993
If something has both Essence and Capacity listed, you use essence if you're plugging it into your meat and capacity for sticking it in metal. A shotgun is 10 Capacity, IIRC, which leaves not a lot left in your arm for other upgrades and modifications.

If you are installing it *in* your cyberarm, you don't pay the essence cost, instead you are filling up the capacity of the arm.

Just finished watching the new Ghost in the Shell movie, still thirsty for good cyberpunk. Does anyone here have suggestions?
>>

What format? Have you read Gibson?

Not even drone spiders. Just actual spiders.

I have a stack of Gibson that I need to read through, true, but I was looking for something more visually stimulating.

Sometimes you just want to see some chrome, y'know?

Bubblegum Crisis/Crash and AD Police are also pretty cyberpunk. Got their own RPG from RTG, too.

>>
>>43987706

Most people aren't modded up.
Most gangers got some old ass gear they inherited or stole, most of it is obvious and only marginally better than a regular arm, generally because it can take more punishment.
Some gangers are funded by cartels, mafias or some group with money to act as their muscle in places where they can't or don't want to be on the street.

But Street Sammys are different. They don't just have one arm, or a genemod, or a prosthetic. They're the weird ass body modification murderers who get an artificial nervous system woven around their spines, chop off perfectly good arms to replace them with chrome and inject custom made steroids into their muscles so their frame can keep up with all the shit they do.
They're more common than casters, by an order of magnitude maybe, but not that common.
>>
>>43989335
Only 1% of that 1% is not aspected or stuck around low-tier adept powers, and only 1% of that 1% of 1% of people are PC-tier powerful, though. Which, yes, implies that just about every awakened PC is either running the shadows for personal reasons or because someone awfully powerful forced them underground. Next time you put together a caster, you better be asking yourself just why exactly you aren't in Hollywood making a fuckhuge fortune as literal one-person Industrial Light & Magic show.
>>
Should I make my dumb manablade assassin a mage or an adept?
>>
>>43995826

Where do you get that statistic?
I keep hearing it, but nothing from the books really talks about it
I mean, I've been specifically looking for this kind of stuff.

In Gangs, Merlyn's Pride, the guys statted out as "just learning magic" have MAG 3 and 3 in all magic skills.
A teacher, on the other hand, has MAG 4 and 4 in Sorcery.
There's around 40-50 of these guys.

The nation of Asamando has 30% of it's population Awakened. This doesn't mean that 30% are Ghouls, but that 30% are magically active.
It's far more likely that the numbers are around 8% or so, with about 1% actually being aware and have a Magic Rating of 3 or higher.
>>
>>43995826
You're overblowing your percentages. Yes, 1% of the world population is awakened. (>>43995976 see Street Grimoire, p12 & p22) No, that's not evenly spread across the globe. (Asamando, for instance, stands at 30% magicians, not including other awakened)

Unless you have a page ref for "1% of 1% of 1%" for PC power levels, then it's not a statistic I'm willing to put stock in.

For comparison, pulling figures from the webs, Australia has slightly more than 1% population working in various types of nursing, and about 0.3% solicitors. That's the kind of numbers you're dealing with around 1%, and the majority will be city dwellers.

Orks generally live 35-45 years, but they mature early, and they stay at the top of their form for most of their lives. In their last few years, though, they age very fast; an orc goes from the human equivalents of about 30 to 70 over a couple of years.

You can sell it and buy a better weapon.
>>
>>43998826

I was going to use it really as a weapon but as a tool to do stuff with? Like breaking and entering etc. Does it have any use in that?

Also, are street samurai very vulnerable to deckers? I feel really scared to play anything that uses electronics because it seems like deckers can shit on whatever they want.

Like can a decker hack my cyber arm?
>>
>>43998994
theoretically, anything your chainsaw can do, a wielder could do and more
>>
>>43998994
>Like can a decker hack my cyber arm?
Yes, but with a properly set up PAN and a friendly decker, you don't have much to worry about. Most of the time.
>>
>>43998994
Your ware can be hacked if you leave wireless on, which is why only real idiots use wireless on their limbs (unless they are corpsec with a dedicated decker with high-end gear protecting them). As a sammy, you're going to want a commlink with a good firewall to protect anything that does need wireless, like your smartlink, but keep your limbs off the Matrix.

You can use the chainsaw as a B&E tool, it's just usually faster if you have a shaped charge. You're already making a mess, might as well go full bore, neh? There are corner cases where a chainsaw is better, and if you try I'm sure you can use it for something.
>>
Is there anything supportive a street samurai can do? I don't like the idea of being ONLY a combat monster. I want to do something more.. constructive I guess. I wouldn't mind being a rigger but apparently rigger is garbage because their book isn't out yet.
>>
>>43999088
Rigger isn't garbage, it's just not a replacement for a street samurai.

You can go rigger/sammy if you want; get some rotodrones with AKs, have them fly around and give suppressing fire that pins down groups of enemies while you physically move up and take them out yourself.

Really, Sammy works well with just about any non-magic role, because you're already committed to getting a bunch of ware, so you can get all kinds of stuff to help you with both jobs. I've seen sammy/deckers, sammy/infiltrators, sammy/drivers, sammy/faces, etc.
>>
>>43999088

is there any advantage in being MUNDANE like.. no casting power and no cyberware or whatever? Like what advantages would a regular average joe have over some cybered out monster? or some spell flinging PIECE OF SHIT.
>>
>>43999129

rigger just feels limited in a "class" that is supposed to have a bunch of options. Why would I ever hot sim into my drone or vehicle and risk being raped by biofeedback considering how flimsy drones are.

None. The entire point of cyberware is that meat bodies a shit, but we have the technology.

Unless you count stupid stuff like 'an intact soul'.

>>43999181
The dangers of hotsim are overrated by /srg/, but the advantages are also not great (for using drones, jacking into a car is still the best way to drive). Better to have a bunch of drones working together through an RCC.

And they are kinda limited, but until Rigger 5 that's just how it is. If you have the money, you can get a ton of drones, programs, and parts, and come up with some interesting combos.
>>
>>43999167
A little bit, you could not invest so much in resources a get better attributes or skills. or you could use that 450,000 to buy things like multiple cars/fake SINs/explosives/drugs/things.
Helps if you have a good amount of contacts so you know a guy that can do something even if you aren't a golden god at forgery.
>>
>>43999088
Infiltrator can work, since you've typically got high physical stats already.
>>
Was going to make a ork rigger with a severe addiction to... biofeed back damage? Is this a bad idea? It would be the first shadowrun character I ever made.

Terrible. Guns don't drain you, they can't be counterspelled, they pump out more reliable damage, and everyone doesn't immediately geek the mage who has no recourse.

A few spells like Stunball or Manabolt are fine, good to have something that can fuck with machines and the enviroment like Acid Spray, but spellcasting only is a good way to die fast.

That's about the biggest "don't" when playing a mage.

My character goes nonlethal because of "B-but killing people is bad" and general guilt. He disguises his emotion by claiming it's more "proffessional". He's committed to shadowrunning cause he already has a criminal SIN so there's not much other job opportunity for him. I have a little backstory written out for him already, but its only a couple of paragraphs. I just want to make a character and compare it to others to see where I can improve

If you're interested in 'ware, get Synaptic boosters. It's basically a bunch of extra shit attached to your nerve cords to make you react faster. It's easy on essence, cannot be seen or detected outside of thorough DNA scan and is expensive as fuck (and you don't need much money anyway, unless you plan to own seven sport cars, one for every day of the week).

Though in sixth world everyone uses cybernetics, froom poorest worker in some shithole's F company (usually these dudes get skillchips installed, as it's way cheaper than training them. Some secretly installed personafixes can't hurt too.) to a multi-million earning sportsman or a trid/simsense star. So concept of human purist is fine, but you'll be viewed as little weird at best.

Lore-wise, no. Crunch-wise, not being awakened frees up some chargen resources which you can invest into something else, but especially in the long run, awakened characters are entirely within their capabilities to catch up and then some unless the player's a cool dude/dudette who invests cash and karma into fluffy stuff as well rather than pouring everything into mad gains.

Being magically active but not chromed is a thing for a lot of awakened folks but it's not without controversy. Some do chose to "burn out" (though they may eschew that particular expression) and can become frighteningly effective at whatever it is they set out to do. Mechanically, you'll be less effective than a dedicated summoner but perfectly able to keep up with any other build and then some.

Being neither augmented nor magically active marks you as a scrub and there's no reason why this shouldn't be the case. Depending on your iRL social prowess and willingness to cheese, you might be able to pull off a borderline OK face and/or - if you invest your resources well - fixer, but you'll always be strictly inferior to your non-Luddite peers.
>>
>>44000891

Small addendum: you can stay all natural and keep up with the rest of the crew via the careful application of a mountain of drugs.

Not sure if you feel the bioconservative agenda is worth a downwards spiral through the addiction rules, but, well, you CAN do it.
>>
>>44001966

The Bane build is great for short term as long as you can manage the tendency to fall the fuck over unconscious after a fight. Mages with Heal are your friend.

It's the fastest way to get to 4IP though in 4e. Get yourself 6+ edge and a few doses of K-10. Because fuck that Permanent Rage test, you just need 1 hit on Edge.
>>
>>43992060
Or he might get hit by a car. Cars are seriously spooky.
>>
>>43992060
Switch to 4e AP for stun weapons. Then send ten security guards after him with stick and shock. That half -AP adds up real quick.

>>44002036
Or speedball with Dopadrine, since that prevents berserk from ever happening. It does cost you -1 dice on all physical actions, but given the buffs from K-10 that doesn't really matter.

Basically spea is the king of acrobatic combat.

im not that poster, but what if money wasn't your only motive? say your character is a radical against a certain group and you want a certain amount of destruction to come to them during a run, but your party deems it unneccessary? ofcourse, oocly, thats really dickish
>>
>>44005111
I was working off the 'moving up' aspect when I mentioned profit. You can't really move up just by hating people, though you can if you sign up with a radical group all your own. In which case, it's damn hard to hide those kinds of allegiances and favours supporting you.
>>
>>44004969
>>44005026
It would be to their benefit. The issue is that they would never want to do anything to help other members of the team in ways that don't directly relate to the run, or anyone else for that matter. My character believes that he knows what is best for them (as a team), even if they don't. We don't have a de-facto leader, and stepping up as one is a sure way to paint a target on your back, hence my desire to be a little more subtle in my methods of group-organization.

>>44005111
This is one of the reasons. One of them is outspokenly racist against all metatypes, except theirs.

>>44005180
>The issue is that they would never want to do anything to help other members of the team in ways that don't directly relate to the run, or anyone else for that matter.

Well, that's shitty. In sixth world "who you know" and "what you know" is way more useful than "how many buckets of dice you throw for one attack". These guys are digging their graves like that.

As for organization... a good advice here, a tactical help there, a spell or first aid when they need one and they'll start listening. Herding cats is a tough job, but it's doable. If all else fails, pull contacts and start leading your merry bunch of sociopaths through them.

What is essential starting equipment for a 4e shadowrunner? Above and beyond the usual specialist equipment? Some kind of comm device like a subvocal mic, something to get around locks (mag-lock sequencer, autopicker), appropriate fake SIN at the least (licenses if you plan to walk around civilized places with some hardware), a tag eraser to deal with pesky RFID tags, a radio signal scanner to FIND said tags, and probably a burner commlink or two.

That's because all classes of pistols have good purposes. Tasers are legal to own and carry, plus the added bonus of being able to knock out a target. Lights are cheap and easily disposable without having the power of a light sneeze. Heavies are a suitable combat weapon, or a good secondary for anyone using something heavier.

child action actor, child athlete, child soldier/refugee, actual replacements for failed parts

Wait, it adds to speed too? That doesn't make sense to me. Can it literally force a slow crawling tracked drone to somehow move at a proper pace?
>>
>>44011569
Drones are probably slowed down because their brains are kinda retarded and there's safety precautions.

Rigger wearing a drone doesnt have such limitations and thus can redline the drone.

But yeah, it's stupid, but until gotta go fast supplement arrives it's the only way to actually get vehicles/drones worth a damn.

So, weird question: What addiction rating and addiction threshold would you give Tempo in 5e? The basic duration and stat effects of it from 4e translate over, but those are important for when PCs use and abuse.

And I've been noticing a slow uptick of mentions of both Tempo and the various players in Ghost Cartels in the last two or three books which makes me wonder if 5e might actually move the abandoned Great Beasts plot forward if only in small side stuff.

Pic related is apparently in Havana and supposedly has a means to get Tempo back on the market.

Lemat 2072 & Colt Agent Special. You can use the same ammo for both (heavy pistol ammo), though the Colt only had taser ranges, and the Lemat also uses a shotgun shell, iirc.
>>
Has anyone here made or is making a custom story for the Returns games? As in, returns, dragonfall or hong kong

I'm working on one right now but the whole workshop thing seems pretty dead in all three games

The good thing is most custom stories i've seen so far range from bad to "it's okay" so I don't have to make a UGCOTY to stand out
>>
>>44012891
That's lame. I don't usually make use of community content early on, but they make coming back to a game years later a new experience. Why is this one so dead, compared to those which are pretty alive? Like remember the original Neverwinter Nights? There was no lack of custom content there. And some of it was even good!
>>
>>44014213
You can check the workshop for yourself and see that it's pretty barren, maybe it's the fact that the shadowrun edior is clunky as all hells, i think i can only withstand it because it feels kinda like rpg maker 2003 but less user friendly

Like have you taken a look at the thing? You have to make use of lists to call upon with strings of events rather than just assigning a conversation to an object (the option to do it directly is there but it never works)

Probably the fact that to even open it you have to change directories on a .ini file and change some shit - i only made it that far because i was willing to actually do shit but for the average user it's gonna be like "shit it doesn't work oh well it's not like i wanted to do anything anyways"
>>
>>44014264
>Like have you taken a look at the thing? You have to make use of lists to call upon with strings of events rather than just assigning a conversation to an object (the option to do it directly is there but it never works)

Holy shit, that sound agonizing. I think I know why SR: HK took so long to make despite the same engine.
>>
>>44014276
Yeah, just thinking about the amount of different combinations for dialogue they had to compile on an engine that doesn't allow just message-jumping into a conversation makes me uncomfortable

Plus these are things that happen per SCENE so you have these huge empty maps with like 8 different areas each that you traverse to and you have the list of interactive objects and possible conversations for the whole thing, if you don't make use of IDs you're absolutely fucked, not to mention that the conversations list is global and they're usually hidden all in a single category while you have conversations from ALL THREE GAMES sorted in categories in the same drop down menu

This is more of a dev kit than a user tool, it's horrifying. The only reason I haven't given up yet is because i'm commited to actually telling this story and since there aren't many good and extensive UGCs maybe i can get some attention from HBS themselves but that's wishful thinking ayy

It is a way to say "I make G.O.D look like a bunch of script kiddies. Now here's the deal, I am here to offer every one of you runners a deal that is no strings attached except that I could shut you guys down if you refuse. It's pure profit runs and I will make sure no corp will come after you even though this will be as loud as it gets.."
>>
So, I hate the 5e metaplot. The chapter fluff makes me want to burn my copy of the rulebook. That's fine, I can edit it to taste better than cold horse jizz.

If I'm going to be scaling back the timeline a little bit, how far do you think I should go? What era has Shadowrun been the best?
>>
>>44014857
5e does not exist, 4e is where it ended

but 2e is where it should've stayed, history after that becomes shit

>>44011520
The child soldier/refugee might be the best one to go with, and the least likely to be verifiable by any particular authority that digs too deep. Thanks.

>>44010992
Not worrying about Lonestar in this case, more worried about just getting past customs for public transit and such, and avoiding the possibility of Evo getting back to me. Also the fact that another corp tried to hijack me and my fellow test subjects (which lead to three of us breaking out), and the worry that Evo will either liquidate our remaining 'siblings' rather than let further evidence come to light, or will give other corps reason to go after us all and make rescue that much harder.
>>
>>44015789
>Couldn't be helped. Still had to pay for the starting equipment.
If you're not planning on getting upgrades, there are cheap alternatives in Chrome Flesh - 78k or 10k. Neither are anywhere near as obvious as cyber.

>>
>>44014814
Yeah, even if there was someone capable of that, no one in their right minds would ever work for him.

>no strings attached except that I could shut you guys down if you refuse
>I will make sure no corp will come after you even though this will be as loud as it gets

That is the sound of an idiot and a megalomaniac without the faintest idea of how to motivate people. Let him fucking have JackPoint, it's just a host; they can have a new one running in minutes, and meanwhile a bunch of the best hackers on the planet are going to be digging into exactly who this is.

People have forced their way into JackPoint before, but usually just to throw out a quick post or two before the banhammer comes down. Someone trying to strongarm about a hundred exceptionally skilled and well equipped terrorists is going to have a bad day.

Seattle is classic, New York for fancy runners, Rhine-Ruhr for Euros, Havana for those who want some sun and tempo, most of the Chinese states, Istanbul so long as you're not doing wetwork...

Literally any city you can name.

>tfw considered Bangkok and Amsterdam but couldn't find any info on them
>only info i found on Amsterdam was that it became the shithole of shitholes, the underworld of the underworld

the good thing in this universe is that the world has been mostly unified and borders are smeared and horrible so you can find all kinds of people all around the world and they'll mostly talk in english and exchange nuyen but at the same time that makes it even harder for me to pinpoint where i want to begin
>>
>>44018083
99 Bottles and Sprawl Survival Guide have info on Bangkok.
>>
>>44018104
thank you based anon, i'll check it out right away

bangkok's underworld is probably a shithole but if it's the same shithole as today with slapped technology and shadowrunners then it's my kind of shithole, it sounds like the perfect place for some really cool runs and colorful descriptions
>>
>>44017978
I'm currently sending my players in the anarchist drug-ridden hellhole of Genoa-Milano-Torino.
>>
>>44018115
It's not the worst place out there. There's a semi-constant war between the triads, yaks, some Hindu gang and independents over the drug trade. There's a ton of tourism (which goes from legal to 'two people murdering each other in a cage for a screaming audience of white people and holy shit the sex trade') which leads to a lot of well-equipped cops with fast response times in certain areas, but no real civic pride to serve and protect locals who don't pay their dues.
>>
Probably a silly question, but can AI upgrade (and optimise) more than once?
>>
>>44018146
not an absolute shithole, territorial gangers, drug dealers, illicit activities and well-packed cops to present a threat when shit goes sideways

I was just thinking of the point break heist dlc where a South African guy gets into Crimenet and sends a messsage on he wants to burn his company in the most epic way possible. The first one had you hitting a bunker for specific goods and the other involves hitting a plane for the cash they have stashed

And both jobs are loud as fuck
>>
>>44018617
A) Payday is not SR. I know /srg/ conflates the two a lot, but they are very different in tone

B) Point Break is an intentionally stupid and over the top movie, and I assume the DLC follows the same path.

C) You can hire shadowrunners to do a loud job if you want. Know how? You ask your fixer to get you runners capable of a loud job.

Breaking into JackPoint to try and contact prime runners directly, let alone threatening the host and making retardedly unkeepable promises like 'no corp is going to come after you I swear' is just dumb. You would think it was a set-up, but no one is dumb enough to try and set up a go-gang this way, let alone the world's top criminals. It just leaves someone who makes wild and irrational statements and threats, with no idea of the basics of shadow etiquette (fixers are there for a reason, and I can't imagine anyone who would take a job directly from an unknown Johnson) or how any of these people got to the top of their field.

If Ghosts are a thing in Shadowrun, why does a Magician's astral projection fade out of existence after a few hours if the body dies?

I always imagined the ghost of a dead person simply being their astral form with no body to return to. Is there any info on ghosts vs regular spirits?
>>
>>44019684
Ghosts aren't a thing, at least officially. There's been tons of sightings, but no real evidence that these ghosts are actually the souls of dead metahumans walking the earth and not just free spirits messing with people.
>>

To be fair. Locke was going after his own company after seeing it as a sinking ship after seeing so many big jobs done to him.

Plus he worked as their inside man by doing things like smuggling explosives and marking out equipment without forcing them to go on a scavenger hunt.

So the johnson gives very good intel and legwork and the only thing he did wrong was directly hiring.
