Are the W40K rts games a good intro into actual Warhammer? I loved those games as a kid, but never really thought much into Warhammer itself, but now am considering picking it up.

Underage b& much? These games aren't that fucking old.

It released in 2004, that was a while ago. 19 at any rate, but ok.
Oh and >>>/b/

Dark Crusade is a ddecade old, DoW is 11 years old.
>>
>>43978668
anon, dawn of war came out 10 years ago.
He could have been a little 8 year old moeblob when it came out and still be an adult now.

Into the lore, yes. Into the tabletop rules, no.

Well shit. I feel old.

Lore is what I meant, I should've specified. Good to know.

As an aside, what's a good starting point for learning the rules?

Jesus Christ.

How was it that long ago?

The year 2,000 is still the distant future to me.
I understand how you feel.

Somewhat, but not really. You would be better of with some Novels and the Lore sections of the rulebook. Check out the OP of the 40k general, there should be pdf archives with all the books you could dream of
They are a nice addition, but since they concentrate on a specific chapter mostly, you won't learn much about 40k itself besides the abolute basics like "orks and chaos are evil".
They are still good games until today, from a /v/-pov.

>rules
Getting the starter box. It includes a rulebook for starters.
Or getting the real rule book.

The rulebooks.
>>
>>43978784
Ok, thanks.

Gameplay-wise they are radically different. And while in DoW you can produce any units as demanded, in the tabletop you have to spend a lot of money and time to field an army that works under the given meta, which changes frequently and drastically enough that you're buying a new army every 8-12 months or so. Also, it is entirely possible that your army of choice becomes unplayable due to the shift in meta for an indefinite time period that can span several years - unless you invest into another army. If none of those is an issue for you then you should be fine.

/sigh
Sounds like I need a better job.
>>

Not necessarily. From a cost-efficiency perspective, you could get into horseback riding or skuba-diving instead. Or upgrade your gaming rig of choice and invest into that.

Which Dawn of War 1 mod is better for defeating Dawn of the Eldar and fixing Fire on the Move?

I remember this being super realistic when it came out...
>>
>>43979849
It looks like the love child of Angry Joe and Indrick Boreale playing Epic on a shitty mat.

So I suppose it's not that unrealistic.
>>
>>43978655
The RTS games were all disappointments in my view.

They are all generic a fuck RTS with 40k skins, nothing about the combat etc.. works the way it should based off the fluff or actual tabletop.
>>
Don't bother, the tt rules are really bad. You're better off just buying the video games.
