I'm creating a map for a lab. This lab is a sort of SCP/STALKER style place where weird and terrible things were experimented with and explored.

My question: if you were doing research on this sort of shit, what kind of facilities and stuff would you want to have? I want the lab to be set up and equipped as realistically as possible.

Here's what I've got from other people:
clean rooms
Suicide tooth-capsules
sealed-off room that one can interact with remotely through robotic arms
sensors. light all em spectrum sensors sound, motion, particle, etc.
a standardized sets of each stable element, and each of the main molecules necessary for life.
applicators to apply a variety of effects/ substances to said artifact (i.e water, fire, cold [via ice or liquid nitrogen or the like],
organic matter
samples of living creatures, from single celled up to mice and stuff.
multiple humans nearby viewing events and taking notes, for comparative purposes
a hammer, a maul, an axe.
pipe cleaners, in bulk
duct tape, in bulk
a vacuum room
cold room
water submerged room
thermal testing room
dark room
bright room
loud room
quiet room
several data storage rooms at varying distances. redundancy is key. Unless they become self aware and attempt to take over the lab. Damned artificial intelligences.

Security checkpoints and hardpoints.
Secret doors with very angry, patient, armed humans behind them who wait for a signal.
One schmuck who wants to weaponize.
One schmuck for civ use. They bicker.
Labyrinth style layout, getting worse towards more heavily guarded cells.

SCP style? Their labs are designed to contain threats and do research on how to destroy them.

Control room that manages security cameras, door access and weapon systems.

Robotics maintenance and repair to fight against psychological/mind controlling horrors

Biological and chemical weapons lab and application: Acids, toxins, viruses

Automatic Base self destruct system if threat is too severe.

Infirmary for routine physical and psychological checkups and treatment on all base personnel

Recreation center with pool tables, snacks and music.

Internal venting and air supply system with filters.

Decontamination rooms.

Clean power generation systems

Armory

Morgue / dissection room

Rooms with various/all shielding: Radiation, physical, bacterial

AI computer systems with offline fail-safe overides.

Communication systems: Radio, walkie-talkies, pencils, wired intercoms,

Don't forget your basics.

Offices for the scientists. Housing for on site staff. Cafeteria. Showers. BATHROOMS. Janitor's closet. Maintenance room. Altar for blood worship. Large rooms meant for meetings.

Other things you can find in a corporate setting

Keep a reverse probability drive in handy in case of reality-altering subjects. Slap some liquid nitrogen tanks into the walls so you can always subdue something that might be immune to the gas you're pumping through the facility

Take the map for an old office building, keep the bathrooms and break rooms where they are, label every other room at absolute random with no thoughts to logistics or efficiency. Then it'll be authentic.
>>
All staff have all protocols and security they need to deal with memorized. Period.
And anything relevant to a given location is on several easily readable signs nearby.
(with the exception of areas where the existence of those signs is somehow counter productive to the security, *cough*weird magic shit*cough*)

If they're experimenting, then a small portion of what they've mastered should be used in the security.
Only the things that are both safe (or safe under proper circumstances) and that they're (absolutely) sure about.
I'd probably only make this ~2-5 things, and most of them would be dangerous if the PCs used them incorrectly.

Most of the staff would value they're protocols over they're opinions.
If the PCs charge into a room they aren't allowed into, they'd sooner stay well the fuck out of it then try to explain why they went in to their boss. Or they wouldn't trust their chances of surviving there.

Have notes on *everything* that could potentially destroy all (or most of the lab (or enough)) if released.

Somewhere there must be an out of the way janitor's closet graffitied with the mad ramblings of someone who has been long overlooked for a psyche eval.
>>
What about a combat room where they tested the battle efficiencies of their many, many creations?

This is an underated post.

Physically separate the places where things are contained, the places where people work and the places where people rest by a great deal of tunnels, security doors and top-tier lockdown doohickies. If an issue in containment has any reasonable chance of being a threat to the labs you've fucked up, let alone if they dorms and other downtime areas are lost like in every example of this trope ever.

Unit 731. They did the most efficient and successful IRL human experimentation ever.

Aye, worst thing to happen is in the bathrooms.

>>43980057
Did they ever release any kind of plans of their facilities? Maps or anything like that?
>>
>>43980901
Yes, there's extensive material on the lap design and also explanations for why it was made to look like a logging facility and such.

Neat, thanks!

Got a link to any of this?

None of it should be hard to find if you just look into it; Unit 731 is quite well-documented for a group that destroyed most of the paper evidence.
