Summon demons with jaunty, christmas-y carols and lots of dancing. Have one dude focus on melee, get Nurgling Infestation, and have them just hug people to death.

Also, make sure you get every disease ever since you're immune.

One of you could try and take up making Daemon Engines and/or Daemon Weapons

You can discuss what your guys believe in. It's a Chaos religion, one can be mike a marine frol The Purge, wanting to wipe out all life then raise it back to Nurgle, another one can want to infect everyone to make them an offering to Nurgle, or one can be the cheery Nurgly type, the one that calls his patron Papa Nurgle.

Figure out how you're going to be getting around. Helicarrier, Battleship, Void Frigate, or are you managing to hop aboard a Chaos Cruiser for great victory? It depends on the scope of the Campaign, mainly if you're going to be largely focusing on a single planet/system or jauntily flying around the Segmentum Obscura and conquering unwatched Hives or Feudal Worlds?

Also, I've played in and am currently running a game and one big thing that has come up is that if you are interested in performing Rituals than either be VERY picky about the ones you do or have a "Minion of Chaos" do it.

Rituals give Corruption for performing them without necessarily giving any Infamy, so they accelerate either your Ascension to Daemonhood/Endgame or turn you into a Chaos Spawn a lot faster. Minions of Chaos are easily replaced the next moment you have narrative down time, as the book basically says they can literally fall out of the Warp. So they take the Corruption and rather promptly die, and you get a Daemon(Sword[Engine]).

Also, fun plan if you're not restricted to a single world, and one that I've participated in, that would be right up your alley as a Warband of Nurgle. Acquire a sample of the Obliterator Virus and begin Chemtrailing a hive world with it. As the massive war starts to occur remember to keep refreshing the virus when you come by to "help" with some additional supplies.

My initial plan was to free the PCs as the DMPC from a heretic-prison ship, and pull a rick-n-morty and go "alright fuck we gotta do this thing c'mon shitheads" such a thing involves sabotaging an entire hive city to use it as a sort of ritual base where fresh "supplies" are hunted up, and then the campaign proceeds from there.

What can I do to improve it?

I've got an NPC at the moment who is a Warband Leader that the PC's have signed on with temporarily and for LOTS of profit and glory. A Night Lord, traitor Blood Angel (Actually Alpha Legionnaire), Khorne Berzerker, and a Fleshshaper are far more valuable than the Cultists and only few hundred sorcerers the NPC has on hand.

Are you planning on having the DMPC remain around for longer than is necessary to take the Prison ship? Will said DMPC be offering the very valuable Nurgle Marines a chance to work for them or how, why, and where will they be getting dropped off on the Hive World?

Are you planning on having them remain on the Hive World and fuck it up from there, have it as a base of operations to return to between Compacts, or is it intended as a way to weld the Warband together and end with them getting off planet after turning the Hive into a writhing and pulsing pile of moaning and rotting flesh?

For the DMPC, you could also pull an Elder Scrolls/Atlas(Bioshock) and have him take out the power to the Cellblock leading to a massive prison escape and rush to the escape pods/landing bays to get off the ship with the DMPC giving them directions to "Test their worth," and once they're off they see the ship either erupt in a hail of weapons fire or the ship take off with a final hail from the DMPC saying that the DMPC "Looks forward to the challenge of facing them from the otherside."

Because Chaos is all about Glory, and you need worthy foes or at least worthy challenges obtain Glory.

Nothing aside from prep the Arbites and PDF stat blocks for the Hive, remember Hive Gangs exist and are even occasionally loyal to the Imperium, Corrupt Nobles are funny to watch fall to Chaos and then realize they're not at the top of the totem pole, and the like.

Also, to add a bit of pressure, have them a couple session into the adventure discover a missive or hear about from the Grapevine that there is supposedly a group of "Specialist Investigators" (Ordo Hereticus Acolytes) looking into the trouble of that ship that was lost in orbit. Tada, the biggest and possibly recurring challenge to the Warband.
