If we're talking about turning princes into princesses it can be an effective way of screwing with the order of succession. I Inserting a random guy into a royal line is far more weird. Maybe the whole "royal family" is made whole cloth by various enchanted armor and crowns and swords and shit over time.

It worked, but somewhat too well. Four generations later, and not one girl has been born from his bloodline since. Only males.

This ensures that there are plenty of sons to continue the line of succession, but makes for something of a problem when it comes to political marriages as there are no daughters to marry off to other kingdoms to seal the deal on treaties and trade agreements.

Also, as the sons interbreed with local nobility the ratio of males to females of royal blood is becoming heavily slanted towards the former, which requires families to go further and further afield for princesses and other female nobles to marry.

The cursed armor was specially made to rebalance the scales in times of need. Each noble house has its own criteria for whom is to be selected for the change, but the eldest born son is always exempt.

Another situation I've kinda seen in a book:
The ruler is also a religous figure and the literal embodiement of divinity.
So when an heir takes the throne, he is transformed into this specific figure that looks like the goddess, a prophet, etc. And this figure just so happens to be a beautiful woman in your case.
Though this makes it quite easy to place an impostor on the throne. So this system makes more sense on a lower level, like priest of that religion or monks. Actual monks that is, not the player class.
