I'm not angry about how Montka ended. What I am angry about is the AdMech setting everything on fire. Guys, we needed those guardsmen to stay alive so we can send them to places where they're needed so they can die there. And how much equipment was lost because of that stunt?

The equipment was given top priority during the evacuation, so probably not that much. Because there's no difference between nigh-infinite reserves of manpower and nigh-infinite reserves of trained manpower , right?

>We could throw their bodies at threats that are on the galactic scale
That's the plan as I understand it. But decimating (or worse) experienced formations in hopes of pulling the tanks out so they can be given to fresh recruits isn't a winning strategy against Orks or Tyranids, where every member of the stupidly numerous species is a capable warrior. Maybe, maybe enough bodies will choke the Eye of Terror, but Ghazghkull and the Hive Mind sure aren't getting beat by attrition. And the Inperium's contigency plans are invariably turning its hope of a qualitative edge to ash. Literally in this case.

Every single piece of fluff around the Third Sphere is about the Damocles Gulf. By all means, I'd love to be proven wrong, but when it comes to the third sphere? Nothing talks about the other directions.

The reason for this is simple, Tau expand in spheres but they have to start somewhere. They don't expand in all directions at the same time, but rather determine a radius, start somewhere and slowly expand around that radius.

Well, the completely unworkable on tabletop backstory is that the Brellian 7th regiment, due to a tremendous administratum cockup, recieved a shipment of Jump Packs intended to be split up and delivered to several dozen marine chapters.

Thus, every member of the regiment, regardless of battlefield role or whether it would even be of any use to them, is issued with a Jump Pack.

The Colonel is currently in negotiations with the Enginseers as to whether or not strapping a bunch of excess jump packs to a Leman Russ qualifies as tech heresy.

Well I understand I am trading the less "meta" army but I would hope to still field atleast 1250+ points.

I am definitely interested in Necrons.

As I said I have:

Metal Big Mek with KFF and PK
Warboss
Ghazgkul with smaller bits missing (badly painted)
Weird Boy with pieces missing (skin painted)
30 Boyz
5 Grotzooka Killa Kanz
6 Deff Dreads (double rokkits)
15 Lootas
10 Gretchin with Runtherd (skin painted green)
3 Deff Koptas, 1 base missing (noses used for test painting)
5 Tankbustas with Nob (skin painted)
12 Burna Boyz (skin painted)
Nobs (skin painted)
3 meks (skin painted)

If you could get back to me with everything you actually have maybe I can pick apart a good part of a list from it and we can discuss privately how to go about it.

My GW is a fairly chill place, they allow forgeworld, allow conversions, outside glue and paint, but they dont allow proxies.
Azazel is dead, he's not in the rules anymore for fantasy, and he used to be daemon prince. If I used this model as a Keeper of secret, will they complain? It's an OOP model and it looks very similar to the GW one as well. ( I removed the wings though)
Would this be classified as a conversion or proxy?

If a Jump Pack can lift one marine, how many would the Leman Russ need? After that, how many more would you have to add to be excessive?

Leman Russ weight, divided by Assault Marine weight plus an excessive amount more.

Because some fag is going to sperg over "m-m-m-uh s-snowflake m-m-marines!" sooner or later I may as well say it. Jump packs are like drop pods; anyone that isn't a Marine (in armor) would be crushed internally by the motive force of a rocket pack strapped to the back. Orks are Orks, and Seraphim have power armor too, but Guard would just die.

But with 7th anyone can ride in a drop pod so fuck GW and fuck that fluff do what you want

Just run them using loyalist rules of your choice. Space Wolves are nice since they get double specials just like Chaos, plus Thunderwolf Cavalry can easily be proxied with Bloodcrushers (optimally with Berzerker riders) or Chaos Knights. Gladius Strikeforce is nice, but you'll end up with a bunch of Razorbacks that you can't use with actual Chaos.

CSM are probably getting new rules next year, although it might just be Tzeentch Daemonkin.
>>
So, a friend of mine is starting Traitor Guard and I'm looking for what to get him for christmas. He already has:

The extra problem is, while he doesn't say anything, he always treats playing against my Necrons as a fucking chore, and he always, ALWAYS comes out of it some degree of salty. I've tried helping him find the good shit in his book, but no, he's decided on his path, and he'd rather be mad than use it.

At least Daemonkin has given him some sort of out - he's regularly shoving a kitted out Lord in with a squad of Khorne Dogs.

So, if I wanted to run Loyalist 1K sons is there a formation for that? Is it even viable? No specific list or point values, assume at any level.

Put my Int Chap on a Bike for my Ravenwing army, still a WIP but first time working with green stuff and the cape turned out alright.

>run an inquisiton squad consisting of my inquisitor, crusaders, a priest with a eviscerator, a psyker, an allied in primaris psyker and loads of bare bones acolytes

>my primaris psyker rolls on santic for hammer hand and sanctuary

>"I charge titan"
>crusaders lead the charge and I emperor protects for a 2+++ with reroll

Ok, /tg/- I need some help with rules. I play Blood Angels, and I'll have an opportunity to run the Angel's Fury Spearhead formation this weekend. Thats the one with the 3 stormravens and three 10 man tactical squads with teleport homers. The troops in the formation are ObSec and Augur triangulation says I don't scatter when arriving from deepstrike if I'm within 12 of two model with the teleport homers. First off, is it the teleport homers, or the formation that gives Augur Triangulation? I've argued with my buddies about this before, but it looks like it comes from the formation and not the equipment, imo- what do you guys think? Second, do my tactical marines need to be deployed on the ground to use augur triangulation? My group said they do, but all of the batreps and online tactica I've seen says that they can still use it while embarked in the stormraven- measuring the 12" from the hull of the vehicle teleport homer marine is inside of. Does this sound right to you? For Sanguinius and the Emperor.
>>
>>43918420
Augur Triangulation is given by the formation, but the rule itself specifies that it's based off of the models equipped with the homers. That would also mean that you'd only get the benefits of Augur Triangulation if the Tacicals are outside of their transports.
>>
>>43918226
What were the lists?
>>
>>43918420
Augur triangulation is very clearly from the formation, not from the homers.

>>43918503
Can you point to the ruling that says that? I don't see anything that says it can't be used when embarked upon a transport.
>>
>>43918503
That's wrong. Your measuring range to the model with the teleport homer. The transport rules tell us how to measure distance to a model embarked on a transport: measure to the hull instead.
>>
>>43918610
Is the transport a model equipped with a teleport homer? No.

>>
Has anybody here played Zone Mortalis?
>>
>>43919294
Depends, but being that you're playing Nids most people wont mind too much. Magnetizing the wings so you can keep it on the ground for low points games is my advice.
>>
>>43919205
DarkMech plays with warp infused tech which was forbidden after the robot army uprising and because chaos. The Admech does advance their tech but since technology is their currency they keep everyone in the dark except for the highest ranking magos who is the one that does the innovating while everyone else copies. Of course that is a bit moot because above all things the Mechanicus wants to rediscover the lost wonders of STC so looking for relics is far more important than creating your own shit, because your DIY new gizmo will never be as good as a complete STC.
>>
>>43919293

Basically,

Since 30k they've gained some technology and lost others.

In about equal measure.
>>
>>43917930
May I make a points recommendation? Price it so that if a stock Chaos Marine squad buys their Exalted Mark, they get 9/10 of what their Cult gets, and cost 1 ppm less - so Exalted of Khorne are Berzerkers Without Chainaxes, Exalted of Slaanesh are Noise Marines Without Sonic Blasters, etc.

Exalted Marks are just character upgrades. Regular mark pricing would vary based on which units buy them.

>>43919550
What the codex needs is splitting up. It's trying to be too many things right now. It's the armies of each of the Four Chaos Gods. It's the Legions left over from the Heresy. It's renegades that just split from the Imperium. It's Abbadon's Great Crusade. There's not enough overlap between all of those to be a single book.
>>
>>43919344
>>43919491

>>
>>43919697
Zone Mortalis, according to the pdf, can be played up to 1500pts. Personally I think its a great rule set to play in a table crammed with terrain, kind of like playing cities of death.

>>
>>43919842
No, learning is fun, especially physiology
>>
>>43919842
We get it. You're still new and enamored with the world and loving the narrative. For the love of god, PLEASE, don't make me spend a third of the game listening to you talk about how that one lone marine just held off a full squad of guardsmen or your hive tyrant just showed up and reduced a vehicle's occupants to ash or whatever. I know about it. I was THERE.

Doing it sometimes is fine. Especially when really interesting shit happens. But I've literally lost games because my opponent was playing Orks and did this and the game went to time. This was years ago, and I'm still salty.
>>
>>43919842
If you don't want faggots going aspie about dice sort things out before the game. Ask how cocked dice should be dealt with, ask how wounds are counted and ask and learn that picking up misses first is more trustworthy than removing hits.
>>
>>43919842
Try to learn the BRB rules and those in your own codex, if you don't know other armies rules people won't mind, but the generals and yours are seen as your responsibility. From the modeling side, thin your paints and treat others models with respect. Generally if you try to be a nice guy you're already ahead of the curve.

>Dear god, I hope that isn't as big of a problem as you made it sound.
It usually isn't, but it's particularly endemic in new players who do know the narrative and don't know the rules, so they're really looking at everything through the narrative lens. New players can take it to a certain extreme, and a certain subset of the playerbase never really grows out of that extreme.

As for warhammer specific - well, it's not a newbie thing. It's more something more experienced players need to worry about, but I'll say it anyway: There's an arms race to 40k. If everyone's playing on the same tier, it's fine, but shit isn't balanced and everyone knows it. If you start bringing your Good Stuff, everyone else is going to have to start bringing their Good Stuff, and it creates a sort of escalation a lot of players don't enjoy - especially those who don't have a lot of S-class units. Understand the tier the locals are playing at, and play to it, or be ready for a lot of bitching when they find entire swathes of their codices unplayable in the new environment.

Honestly, if offered the choice between Patton in space and a Giant Space Dildo(tm) I would pick the Giant Space Dildo(tm) every time.

Think about it. I can even imagine being offered this in a talk...

"So mr. Anon, we are offering two choices."

"Ok."

"On one hand you have Pattin in space. On the other you have a Giant Space Dildo(tm). Which do you want?"

"... honestly I'm not entirely sure."

"And why is that?"

"Well on one hand you have Patton in space which is always handy. I mean, who wouldn't want Patton in space? Probably a cool guy to shoot the shit with, can hold his drink I assume. Pretty cool."

"This is true."

"On the other hand, a Giant Space Dildo."

"Trademark."

"Yes, trademark. I mean, I don't ever think I formed a sentence in my life that contained these three words strung together but... Goddamn, I want it now."

"This is the typical reaction yes. What do you think the Giant Space Dildo(tm) has over Patton in space?"

"Well for one it would be a great diplomatic tool. Think of the possibilities when meeting new alien species! It would be a great icebreaker! Patton is nice but really you wouldn't bring some arsehole along to a first contact. He wouldn't do much for the atmosphere."

"Really?"

"Yeah. The aliens would be standing there all awkward and stuff and we would be like, "hey check it out, we have a geezer in a tank!" And they would be like, "what the fuck is a tank?" But bring a Giant Space Dildo-"

"Trademark."

"- trademark, and suddenly they aliens be all like "yo dude is that you envoy or are you just happy to see us?" Great idea right?"

"I see."

Everything sounds pretty cool minus the charging from deepstrike. Charging from deepstrike is always pretty dumb, I'd much prefer some mechanic to make them harder to kill on the following turn. Maybe since daemons, they get a 5+ invlun on the next turn? Not amazing but still not bad.
>>
>>43920821
Charging from Deep Strike is needed in the modern game because there's too many ways to gun down units, even if snapfiring at that unit or it has a 2+ rerollable or what have you. The arms race has gotten too far along - a unit cannot survive an army's shooting for a turn before it charges.
>>
>>43920821

>>43920877
I agree that melee needs a buff, but a high damage unit that can pick nearly any target on the board and then kill it with virtually no counter-play will just cause more problems than it solves. I'm all behind outflank getting to charge though, or perhaps deepstrike that requires a homing beacon or a unit nearby at the start of the turn. That way the opponent can play around it and doesn't just lose their non-melee warlord turn 2.
>>

but marines in drop pods, eldar with wraithguard, or another strong shooting unit blowing up a few tanks in a single turn is perfectly okay

Melee if used right can protect you from shooting, allowing you to hop in and out of melee without any risk against several armies.

Still need another Battleforce and Dark Vengeance Bike squad to complete my list.

My first Land Speeder isn't even done with paint and I still have three more and a Dark Shroud to go. Not to mention the other half of my command squad and two bike squads.

I already notice my paint job is getting lazy but I was really hoping to have my army pretty much done as my play group will be meeting the weekend after next.

So wait, the entire concept of Space Marines in modern 40k is that they find a huge problem, drop down, and kill shit until it stops being a huge problem, right? Then the bureaucrats and the Guard and the PDF can come in and mop up after they've exterminated Marine-scale threats?

How the fuck does that jive with the Imperial Fists' thing of "Siege"? If you're supposed to strike in, remove the problem, and leave to find the next troubled spot, how is building fortifications and waiting out the enemy at all a thing you do?

>>43921281
Sometimes you need to drop in and protect somewhere important. Like a forge or hive. Or some really fancy shrine.

There's a campaign mission that is 2v1, Guard+Admech vs. Tau. There are 3 or 4 objectives in Tau lines, Imperium must move up and capture them.

This goes along with a piece of fluff in the book where the Admech are advancing into Tau lines along side the Guard, their real objective is to find some kind of Tau terraforming/weather control/shield thing and bring it back to the admech cruiser. So they find it, and leave the battle, and now the Guard have an entire flank exposed because the Admech gives no fucks. Shadowsun is like "you focking wot m8?" and starts sending in the reserves to force the newly exposed flank.

In the mission one of the 3 or 4 objectives is randomly determined to be Admech shiny object. Admech and Guard are allies of convenience, can't score objectives is one is near the other, and there are two different warlords, one Guard and one Admech on their team.

The admech player wants the shiny object, and the Guard player wants the objectives in the other parts of the Tau deployment zone. Basically the Admech player wants to make sure the Guard player doesn't touch his shiny object, and can actually fire on the Guard player's units (on his own team) to force them off it so the Admech pllayer and score it for himself.

Read Mont'ka dude its up on the rules database in the sticky.

>So wait, the entire concept of Space Marines in modern 40k is that they find a huge problem, drop down, and kill shit until it stops being a huge problem, right?

No, they find a big problem and then they proceed to strike key positions and dismantle the enemy piece by piece from deep behind enemy lines and with no link to their own supply lines for each is self-sufficient and has enough redundancy to survive and act on its own.

>How the fuck does that jive with the Imperial Fists' thing of "Siege"?

Drop in with the big guns and entrench yourself, basically create a frontline where the enemy is weak and doesnt want a frontline, then move out and strike again. I dont think Imperial Fists build fortifications anymore, I know Black Templars build fortifications where they finished a crusade but they act with more numbers and their whole doctrine is less special forces and more "Charge and assault the enemy as the ships in orbit provide covering fire and nuke the enemy positions".

who are you fighting where someone is using mass assault from deepstrike? i feel for you, i do but at least with assault there's a chance to fight back and even guardsmen can smack daemon princes to death.

How many Baneblades do I need to hold hostage before you change your ways?

Anon, it's like you want Khorne to have a love hate relationship with you.

Space marines encompass all forms of combat really. Sure most of the time they're dropping in to punch a hole in the enemies lines that opens things up for the guard, but there are also those times where they send in the scouts for recon/sniping and times where you really just need to tell the guard what to do.

Defence jobs are just one of those times where all you have to do is let the enemy come to you. Like for example, tyranids. You drop pod in and wipe up hundreds of them. Then what? You get overrun and are just part of the biomass (there's actually a lamenters story where that happens exactly). It's much more effective to BUILD WALL and mow them down from afar.

So they're the ones you call in to create a new hardpoint and catch the enemy pin a pincer, when shit's REALLY bad and you can't just lean on the fact that they're Astartes and use that to pull you through. Everyone else finds the main target and neutralizes it, while the Fists are more set up to deal with hordes. Is that so?

It sorta makes them sound like the Guardsmen of the Marines.

I'll take the ones that are badly damaged or greatly in need of repairs hostage.

I just played a game where a Holy Requisitioner waited until the enemy had captured a midfield point and dropped a dozen T5 3+ 2W rapewagons on them. I've played matches where my Infiltrators ambushed a full squad of Death Company marines and massacred them with WS7 and rerolls to hit.

Admech are the ultimate troll army. They're so much fun to play.

Crusades can be as small as a single squad or several hundred marines, largest crusade on record was the Armaggeddon one with three crusades deployed (Grimaldus and his 100 bros, another similar crusade and then Helbrecht with 1000 marines fighting in orbit).

Also unsure if I am going to attempt basing

wait, are you painting these unprimed? that might explain while you're having a problem
>>
>>43921198
Mass assault gives the other player a chance to strike first (overwatch) and a chance to strike back the same turn.
>>
>>43921523
Well, you used that picture of Lysander, which brings another point.

The Imperial Fists' specialty isn't siegeworks. It's counterattacking. They build a wall, let the enemy charge them, then charge back with Terminators who whack Titan ankles to death.

The whole "siege" thing just comes naturally from their style of warfare, which is to let the enemy come, attack, and break against them.
>>

No I am using gray primer which I will never use again because its hard for me to tell what I hit.

The int chap isn't primed yet.

good, because i've tried and it's not for the faint at heart. white would work a lot better since it'd make the yellow standout

White primer is godly. Once you go with it, you'll never use that oily black shit ever again.

Oh boy, two of the Land Speeder I bought prebuilt and one is primed white the other black, will see how it goes.
