What do you think about dnd podcasts like nerd poker where they record dnd sessions /tg/ ?

I like the idea in theory, but every one I've listed to as been full of insufferably annoying people.

I've never heard one but my assumptions about the idea are identical to this anons experience.

The type of people who make podcasts and youtube videos are not the type of person I want to hear or see ever.

The 20 minutes of D&D or Shadowrun they play on Harmontown is good for a laugh.

Some of the Rollplay campaigns on youtube aren't completely cancerous. And that one with the pornstar chick is good for a laugh.

The people can be terrible. Especially in games like the West Marches where you get streamers and e-celebrities guest starring each session. A lot of them aren't even bad people, but you take a bunch of folks who make their living off of branding themselves and stick them in a room together, it gets really annoying, real fast.

If there's one thing they're good for though, it's exposing yourself to how other people GM. I've only ever played with one long-running group, so getting to see how other people run games was a big bonus. And there are gems. I feel like I've learned a lot watching Swan Song on Rollplay's channel. Koebel's a stellar GM, and he streams a lot of his prep-work too.

I'll just leave this here

This. It can be the most annoying shit because typically the people doing it are into the game like the GM or whoever put it together, but everyone else who joins in just wants to whore themselves out and get e-famous. Doubly annoying when it's a chick desperate and thinking pandering to neckbeards in tabletops will clearly make them e-famous.

The only one I've consistently enjoyed would be Critical Role. And even that has started feeling forced because while before they played for the fun of it (they played like a year or so before it was filmed), but now it just seems like everything is rushed and everyone feels the need to do zany shit just to get viewers.

If you're gonna do a podcast or a video series of you doing a game, fine. But for the love of god avoid those common pitfalls in your games. Because nobody watches those for good gaming (except the DM's to rollplay and critical role, those DM's are pretty cool to me), they watch it for the OOC drama that comes from people who don't know/give a shit about tabletops fighting. Like the only reason I watched rollplay was to see the shit crash and burn when that one bitch did nothing but pet a ferret and lie/steal and cry "METAGAME!" when people fucked her over back the entire game.

I really like the adventure zone. It's not super serious or anything but it's funny, also the dad who they're forcing to play is a retired radio dj so he's a pleasure to listen too,

Bumping I'm going to need more podcasts if I'm going to survive making a chain hauberk.
