This game can be pretty lethal, so if you can, do try to avoid dying. Feel free to reply or email with any questions.

IRC is internet relay chat, it's an oldschool text based chat protocol. It's super low bandwidth, super low resources and doesn't sell information about everything you click on to microsoft.

You can jump in by going to the web client at rizon's website or using your own irc client.

Drop on by!

You must span the mighty Spitmede across the Blackaxe Bridge, wade the Deathslick Moor and enter the forgotten Oozeden Keep. If you survive these trials, in the depths of the Keep, below the Altar of Tsathoggua, you will enter the ancient Wormslide, remnants of the work of the Gods of Crawling Things. If you successfully navigate the worm-gnawed labyrinth, you will find the Great Iron Port and beyond, the Crypt of the Lost Emperor.

Within the Crypt, my sight is dim. There will be deathly challenges around every corner and horrors beyond imagining. Evil things lying in wait for untold ages to feed on warm flesh. Deathly cold and searing heat and finally, in the deepest, best guarded chamber... The Jade Crane of Hulish-zha, wrought from a shed fang of Rsha, That Which Feeds on Stars.

Set forth to reclaim this Legendary Artifact and return it to the Surface World. If you survive and return bearing the Jade Crane, untold power will be yours, enough to dethrone the Gods themselves.

What is Numenera? Is a role playing game about over the top heroes living in the ninth world, after 8 apocalypses, the ninth world is young and naive, people live on ruins of ancient civilizations treating all of the "left behind" technology as magic/supernatural powers.
The PCs are genetically enanched, cyborgs or gifted humans (and others) exploring and specializing in many different areas (from controlling magnetism and gravity to being super strong berzerker or lycantropes)

I'm going to be running a campaign of it eventually, but I want player experience first. Nothing stopping you from stepping up and GMing though. That's how I got my first taste of roleplaying, I wanted to play Warhammer Fantasy but nobody was GMing, so I recruited a group, took a week to learn the rulebook, and proceeded to run a game for 11 fa/tg/uys for 6 months. Was super rewarded, highly recommended.

I was thinking of a hexcrawl with a Megadungeon in the center of the map. Game starts at lvl1 (most NPC townies are lvl 0) with a single character. Additional characters are hired in towns and characters usually retire at 9th or 10th lvl and only go on the occasional high level challenge.

I'm using this set ouf houserules because it's short yet fun. I was thinking of expanding it a little, giving classes a single gimmick upon reaching level 4 (hero)

setting: nothing special. I basically ripped off a dwarf fortress world i generated and made most animal men into a loose confederacy.
type of game: again, hex-/dungeoncrawl, you will be exploring a dangerous underworld or the mostly uncharted frontier mountainranges of the human and dwarven kingdom. I try to run things oldschool. That's not to say I try to kill the players. The odds are not in their favour but with thinking, planning and caution they can turn the tables.
odds and ends: XP = gold spent (public buildings, player homes, arts), monster xp is puny and will be about 10% of the total

Nobody is going to want to play with you if you're text only. I did that ONCE, and it slowed the game down by too much to be remotely viable. Get a mic/fix your self-esteem issues.
>>
>>43978706
see >>43928605

Judging from reading several of these threads text is WAY more preferred.
>>
>>43978706
I'd play with that guy. I think maybe you just need to git gud at your WPM
>>
>>43978833
My WPM is fine. The more text-players you have in a game, the higher chance of someone who's WPM isn't fine.
>>
>>43978846
It's really not as common as you seem to think. I've text-campaigned with plenty of randoms. In fact, I find voice slows stuff down because everyone's trying to talk over eachother like retards, or the voice program is glitching, or their mic is fucked, or someone forgot/misheard a detail and since it wasn't typed up they can't just go and look for it in the logs so they have to ask for the DM to repeat himself. There's also the immersion factor, of course. Your average random player is not going to be a natural actor nor an improvisational master, which leads to a lot of second hand embarrassment and shallow roleplay.
>>
>>43978901
Text only is garbage, it's just way too slow and nothing ever gets done. Voice only is tolerable, but only due to being how these games were originally played before the internet.

Master race is text for IC and voice for OOC banter and to speed up the mechanical side of things.

>opinions
>>
>>43978706
>Get a mic/fix your self-esteem issues.
It's not ME talking that I am uncomfortable with.

More the rest of you autists talking in your shitty accents/nasally nerd voices.
>>
>>43978959
Interesting. The only issue I ran into with text-only games was that often people would take so long typing that we thought they had gone AFK, or were otherwise unaware. If we had voice going and they could tell us that they were typing and to just wait a sec then that problem goes away.

I think my future online games will do it like you suggest.
>>
>>43979136
>If we had voice going and they could tell us that they were typing and to just wait a sec then that problem goes away.
This is a thing that happens very often with my group and it definitely increases the quality of the game.

>"Hey, you typing something or...?"
>"Yeah one sec"

Problem solved instantly. Also helps to quickly explain or clarify minor things that shouldn't be slowing down the game, but take an unnecessary amount of effort to type.

There's also the fact that as long as people have decent attention spans and don't get distracted, you can have the game going while also dropping mad bantz on each other and having a giggle at random shit. You get better results if you play with a regular group instead of randoms though.
>>
Text only a best.

>>43979175

I'm in two games that use that method and I've finished four games that used that format in 12-15 sessions on average.

It really does speed up the game quite a bit, while maintaining quality of roleplay and group cohesion.

In short, you're the retarded one here, senpai. Quit playing with ADD riddled kids.

Hey, I've been wanting a GM willing to run a game for the ASoIaF RPG. Specifically the Night's Watch expansion. Doubt it'd be too hard to find a group after that.

I feel like playing (read: DMing) a meaty "dungeon" crawl in d&d 3.5 or PF since it's almost same shit. None of the "roleplay oriented" crap.
Thing is: I want it tonight.

Playing via roll20, I'm ok with text or voice (do note I'm a filthy polack, though somewhat proficient with English).

Reply to this post if you are interested, we may do it if there are at least 3 players. Probably state starting level you'd prefer. I think lower (3-6ish) with possibility of leveling up mid-session would be best.
I'll be idling on #fgsfds @ irc.rizon.net this evening so hop in there if you want to talk beforehand.
>>
>>43984079
Tonight in which timezone?
>>
>>43984137
GMT +1 and tonight as in "right now", bring me players and we can begin.
>>
>>43979021
I'm not necessarily agreeing with this guy, but one of the reason I don't like voice is because way too many people have hte mic way too close to their mouth, chew everything in sight with a loud and incredibly wet smacking noise, or just have an annoying voice.
>>
>>43979664
You realize that if you leave a message half typed and go AFK, it'll still show you're typing, right?
>>
>>43979664
>You realize any decent program can tell you when somebody is typing, right?
Not true. I have yet to find a program (and trust me I've looked) that consistently warns of a user typing. Often it presents someone as typing when they're not or vice versa, and because of the uncertainty it's like it's not a feature at all. Even Steam, with all of Valve's money and care, suffers badly from this.

Can we maybe start adding a line to the OP that clarifies that the whole fucking voice vs text only discussion has been done to death and nothing new, notable or otherwisely valuable can conceivably result from getting into that whole thing over and over again?

P-please?
>>
>>43988439
no.
>>
>>43988439
It keeps the thread bumped :^)

Suggested format for the next OP:

>GM/Player
>System Preferred
>Times Available (with timezone!)
>Method of Play (Skype, IRC, roll20, etc)
>Contact Info
>Additional Notes

Do not post as a group looking for a GM, just quit making excuses and GM yourself.

The question of text v. voice play has been settled, no need to bring it up.
>>
>>43989783
Really we shouldn't allow players to post at all.

Ideally, I'd like to hook up with a group face-to-face in the San Francisco Bay Area.

>GM/Player

Player and/or GM, as needed.

>System Preferred

I'm pretty open.

>Times Available (with timezone!)

Weekday evenings, weekend afternoons. (Pacific timezone; UTC/GMT -8 hours)

>Method of Play (Skype, IRC, roll20, etc)

Ideally face-to-face. Like, in the same room?
Barring that, Skype or some other videoconferencing format. Not just text, please.

I'm working on a homebrew RPG I'd like to publish. If anyone's interested in being part of a playtest group, that'd be spiffy. If not, that's cool too.

We're an established group looking for a couple more for a shortish 5e campaign. We're all pretty easy to get along with and like jokes. New players more than welcome.

Microphone required.

*We don't plan on sticking with 5e forever, the long-term plan is to gel with a couple of people over some low-stakes 5e and then switch to something like Burning Wheel, the One Ring, or Ars Magica once we've got a solid base of players. If you just want to play 5e for a while with us, that's fine too, by the way.
